Express card issue

Hi Folks,
I upgraded to Leopard, then to Snow Leopard recently and just noticed that somewhere along the way my Express Card is no longer working. I can't even see it as a hardware device. I run XP via bootcamp mostly on the MBP, and the card works fine there so I know it is not a hardware issue.
If this a windows issue, I would remove the hardware drivers etc via the Device Manager. I have no clue how to completely remove and reinstall hardware on the Mac OSX though. Any suggestions?? Is there a similar feature within OSX?
I also tried optioncommand+PR on startup, it rebooted after a moment then booted normally and still did not work.

Is this a particular card not working or no cards work?
If it is specific card then it most likely is not Snow Leopard compatible or it needs updated drivers.

  • W700DS with Express card issues

    Hi All
    I have a W700Ds, With a 34mm Express card slot.
I am trying to get it to work with two cards....
Firstly a First com  4 port USB 2 card.
The Device manager says that the card is working ok and the driver is correctly installed however anything plugged into any of the 4 ports does not show up.???
2nd an AVER MEDIA Tv card.
The blue power light is on
The driver was successfully installed .
However when I start the TV program I get the error message that says the Device is not found ?
Anyone got any helpful ideas ?
    Thanks in Advance.

I guess your USB card has a power jack for USB bus power? Depending on the USB device you use you have to provide external power through either a USB port or an external power supply.

  • Firewire express card issue on X230

    Hi all,
I need a firewire port to support a wavefront analyser for my company. I was using before a couple of cards with my X200T and everything was fine.
I just got a X230 with all driver and bios up to date and one of my express card isn't working.
It does still work on the X200T, i've got the new hardware connection under windows 7, but the IEEE1394 card doesn"t show up in the hardware manager, neither the analyser if a connect it to the card.
The other card, that is also based upon a TI chipset, does works.
That is weird. I got some hope upgrading the BIOS to the 1.13 release, but that didn't change anything. Maybe some option somewhere ?

  • Mic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7.1 PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame?

NMic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7. PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame? My mic has worked perfectly up untill the new driver update. It is now version .04.000 released 30 June 09'. That was yesterday as of this post. It was a complete reinstall of the driver and software and a new updater. When I finished all of the updates my mic no longer worked. Keep in mind that I have 2 mics and neither of them work. With the old driver and software I was able to access the Creative Audio Control Panel and I would find a tab called "Jacks". In that tab I could select "line in" or "microphone". I would select microphone and all would work well. Now I have a completely dumbed down Creative Audio Control Panel interface with no option that is similar. I have clean wiped and reinstalled the driver and sofware updates 3 times now with the same effect. Can anyone help please? I really don't want to wait -3 weeks for Creative support to get back to me. The only thing worse than Creative support is UBISoft support!
    Thanks in advance.

  • HP Express Card Mini Remote Mappings, Issues, Woahs, Questions.

Ok, I am trying to actually get this Mini-Remote to be useful for my DV5-1235DX.
First, is there an easy way to remap the buttons on the remote control?  I will never use HP Smart DVD.  I do not use HP Smart Menu.  I will not use Media Center.  I prefer my own software over those packages.
1). Any way to map those buttons to something else and stop the calls they make starting the existing software?
2). Is there a full list of which media functions the remaining buttons are mapped to?  I have found some so far provided below.
Remote Button Virtual Key Media Key
    Stop VK_MEDIA_STOP MEDIA_STOP
    Rewind MEDIA_FASTFORWARD
    Play/Pause VK_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE
    Fast Forward MEDIA_REWIND
    Previous VK_MEDIA_PREVIOUS_TRACK MEDIA_PREVIOUSTRACK
    Next VK_MEDIA_NEXT_TRACK MEDIA_NEXTTRACK
    Up MEDIA_CHANNEL_UP
    Down MEDIA_CHANNEL_DOWN
    Direction Up VK_UP
    Direction Down VK_DOWN
    Direction Left VK_LEFT
    Direction Right VK_RIGHT
    OK VK_RETURN
    Back VK_BROWSER_BACK BROWSER_BACKWARD
    Settings "i" Volume Down VK_VOLUME_DOWN VOLUME_DOWN
    Mute VK_VOLUME_MUTE VOLUME_MUTE
    Volume Up VK_VOLUME_UP VOLUME_UP
As can be seen I am still missing some key buttons and their matched Media Key Function Name.
I would appreciate any and all help on finding the missing button functions and remapping the current app start calls.
Thank you very much in advance for your time,
    Kelly
P.S. - EDIT: A programmer friend pointed out the IR Software/Driver may be sending virtual keys and not just media key signals.  With that I was able to map a few more to their virtual key and can use those buttons now as well.
With this new information I can now map all buttons except the little "i" and the 5 buttons across the top (Power, DVD, SmartMenu, Display Switch, MediaCenter).
P.P.S. - Is there even an application that does anything when pressing the "i" button on the remote?  I've tried almost every application that was installed on the laptop and not one has responded when pressing that button.  The HP User Guides section 'HP Mobile Remote Control (Select Models Only) > Button quick reference' lists this button as Settings and says:
"Press to display system information. The button may also be used to display settings menus for some multimedia software."  It does not display system information and I have yet to find any software it displays anything in.

Well, I called HP Support today.
They verified the only reaction they could get from that "Settings" button on a similar model (they did not have the exact DV5-1235dx on hand) was to interrupt the screen saver.  This is the exact and only behavoir I have found with that key.
They were also unable to provide any technical information (such as remote code, key being emulated, virtual key command, or media key mapping).
So basically on a similar model device they experienced the exact same thing, the key appears to have no function in any of the software provided by HP.
It is very disappionting that their technical support was so lacking that they could not describe the functionality of the key even after being sent up a level and passed over to a third tech.
Until I figure out the mapping of this key, it appears to be a nice way to remotely interrupt the screensaver.  Then again any of the other keys will do that as well.
I did find some use for knowing both the VK and MK mappings.  Media Player Classic HomeCinema allows the use of either VK or MK mapping.  It also allows the use of both.  By using both some keys can be made to perform double duty.
Example:  MPC-HC has the Play function mapped to MK of MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE.  By mapping the VK of VK_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE to one of the Jump Backward commands [eg Jump Backward (medium)] then hitting the Play/Pause key while something is playing will pause playback, and do a short rewind.  It will also do another short rewind and start playing again on the next press.
Example 2: MPC-HC has the Mute function mapped to MK VOLUME_MUTE.  By mapping the VK of VK_VOLUME_MUTE to Toggle Subtitles then pressing Mute will mute the sound and turn subtitles on.  Press again to turn subtitles off and turn the sound back on.
This remote is similar to other HP laptops and so if you happen to know a piece of software which responds to the 'Settings i' button on any model of the HP laptop with any express card style remote running Windows Vista 64-bit please give a shout.
    Thanks again,
    Kelly

  • USB/eSata express card not working on stock kernel

    Hello everyone,
I have a weird problem and I don't seem to find any solution by myself. Let me give you some background info on what I plan to do.
I purchased an express card to eSata/USB 3.0 adapter and want to make it work on my laptops. Precisely, it is this card: http://www.amazon.de/Notebook-Express-C … B007F8TXZ8
    1: Lenovo X200s (1,6GHz) running Ubuntu 14.04 amd64
    2: Lenovo X200s (1,6GHz) running Debian 7 amd64
    3: Lenovo X200T (1,6GHz) running ArchLinux amd64
The card does work fine only on the Ubuntu machine. I would like to make it run on the two other ones as well. I thought I might get help here getting it to work on machine 3 and then transfer the results to machine 2. What really matters to me is eSata, btw, I do not even have a USB 3.0 device to test with.
First of all, here's what happens when I plug the card into machine 1:

Apart from the supposedly found block device (can't judge) I am not sure if there is anything that is really eSata specific and not USB 3.0 related.
So far what I think I can tell from the output is that the modules
    pciehp pci pcieport
seem to be dealing with the express card as such whereas
    xhci_hcd
takes care of USB 3.0. I cannot see any clear reference to the eSata connector, which might not be surprising if the bus is just passed through (again: not sure).

Sticking to my suspicion that this might just be a USB related issue and eSata might still work due to some sort of passthrough, I attached the very eSata drive that I could mount on Ubuntu. It did not work.
I then researched and found this blog post: http://okomestudio.net/biboroku/?p=1360
So I downloaded the pkgbuild for the arch linux core kernel and checked the config. It matched the recommendations.
Another hint I found was to unload acpiphp and force-reload it. However, this tip does not seem to apply to the arch kernel:
    [user@3-arch:~$ sudo rmmod acpiphp
rmmod: ERROR: Module acpiphp is builtin.
Anyone any idea on how to make the card work?
    Thank you!

  • Qosmio X300-14P : Graphic card issues and vertical stripes on display

    Hi,
2 days ago, after a long notebook session of many many hours, suddenly after playing for 2 hours the game
Patrician 4 addon, it crashed in a strange and never seen before way:
The display would show strange and weird colours in all forms rushing over ther display. You could not recognize anything anymore, and after a few seconds of this the screen and the x300-14P completely froze/crashed (hung - no reaction on anything except power plug pull and/or 5 seconds push of ther power button).
I was afraid since this to me looked like a serious issue of either graphic card (nvidia chip) or display.
I hoped it was because of heat (though i have a powerful cooling pad below the notebook and heat shouldnt be a problem).
Next day (yesterday) I launched the game immediately after startup, and after a few seconds the same crash appeared again with the same strange video glitches (never saw something strange like that before).
I immediately did the 5 second power button press reset,. and then, when the first boot screen appears (the bios display hint and the loading/booting screen), there were like 2-7 vertical white stripes (on the black background) on the right side of the screen.
They wouldn't move nor go away.
I immediately turned the notebook off and it is off since then.
To me this looks really serious, as if either nvidia chip (Geforce 9800-GTX) is broken or the display.
Does anyone know something about this ?
Has anyone heard of such a problem ?
    Who knows more ?
I know, i can now connect an external monitor.
If there is no problem, this should mean that it is a x300 display problem
If the problem also appears on the external monitor, it is the nvidia gpu chip. That would be at least my guess.
Has anyone any idea about this, what it might be and what i could do ?
(i am afraid sending the x300 in to toshiba for fixing is not worth it, as it is pretty old
(it was purchased new in june 2009). fixing it is probably too expensive.
Any ideas about hthis problem ?
    I never had it before.
    Who can help ?
    Thanks
    P.S:
I was thinlking about buying the new qosmio X870, but i just saw it has no express card slot, which i need for various expansion modules (like tv and video equipment, more e-sata cards etc.pp.).
Without an express card slot i wouldn't buy any notebook, i need this slot urgently (it is like a pci-express card connection slot in a desktop pc).
To me the express card slot is vital.
Too bad many notebooks dont have it anymore.
So io might need my x300 for some time,
but what shoudl i do abpout this new strange video chip/display problem ?

    Hi,
    yes.
even windows has now deactivated the whole graphic card, saying it was deactivated because
it reported an error - CODE 43 .
the stripes are still there at boot screen and bios screen, they go away though as soon as windows loads,
but this has deacvtivated the nvidia chip (the nvidia device driver software wouldnt start at all, it says : no nvidia gpu connected (since it was deactivated by windows 7)).
looks like i have to send the x300 to toshiba for repair (maybe even mainboard replacement).
who knows how i can find the local toshiba repair company ?
    whom can i call in
    FRANKFURT AM MAIN
    GERMANY
to get my toshiba notebook repaired ?
if someone has the adress and even better telephone nummber, i would be happy.
a second question, by the way :
did someone of you ever replace the mainboard in a toshiba X300 / X305 ?
    how expensive was that ?
    thanks

  • NitroAV FireWire 800/1394b Express Card (34)

After some foot dragging by FireWire direct, today I finally received the NitroAV FireWire 800/1394b Express Card ordered almost a month ago.
    First Impressions: Unimpressive at best.
According to the FireWire direct rep, it is supposed to work using the Mac OS built in drivers and require no additional driver....
Upon first insertion, my MacBook Pro promptly went into a kernel panic.
    NOT a good introductory performance!
Upon restart, I did get the thing to work, "sort of".
First, it requires AC power even with a 2.5" external drive meant for bus power. Bummer, but so be it. However, less acceptable: it is VERY fussy about sequence, reminding me of evil SCSI voodoo rituals from the past century. Seems it only likes to work once- if I remove the card, it requires a reboot to recognize anything attached to it subsequently.
Functionality is intermittent. Sometimes I can mount and unmount a drive several times in a row, sometimes just once before it fails to recognize the drive and requires another reboot. One drive it took a long time to recognize but eventually it did- only to freeze up rock solid soon thereafter requiring an uncomfortable long push on the power button to shut down- nothing else worked. That drive was a known to be working Lacie, the first a known to be working WiebeTech and both are totally reliable on my G5 and previously completely reliable on the MacBook Pro using the integrated FireWire 400 port.
Unscientific results so far show a modest speed increase transferring a few large files, nothing like double the FireWire 800 speed hoped for. In any case if it ain't reliable it ain't gettin' used. Hoping for a driver solution in 10.4.7? (Wishful thinking)
No one likes a fussy device, much less one doomed to corrupting directories with that kind of behavior. I'm disappointed with Apple for omitting the FireWire 800 port on the 15 inch model and leaving us with this cheesy "solution".
I am not a big fan of dongles, or things like Express cards which are just asking for trouble by introducing intermediary third party connectivity issues exactly like these...
Oh yeh, and the little metal door on the Express Card slot tends to hang open and not snap closed- just to add insult to the whole process.

Well, after two days of use I have a bit of data regarding the NitroAV (and Apple's implementation of ExpressCard/34).
First some general observations: like bigwheel, there are a few too many rough edges to be fully pleased. After inserting the card, a menu bar icon appears next to the Airport icon. On mouse over, the drop down shows "Unknown Vendor" and "Firewire Controller" are greyed out, while the 3rd "Power off Card" is selectable but does NOT power down the card. Looks like I have to shut down the MBP, then eject the Nitro card.
I also can confirm intermittent unmounting and remounting. My latest experiment is to leave the drive mounted and then have it wake up after sleep. So far it's worked once, but will post if it continues to find my FW 800 drive over time.
One major design flaw of the ExpressCard implementation - to engage the card you push in until it clicks, while to disengage the card you merely push in a second time. But how are you supposed to ATTACH FW800 cables?? I find I have to try to hold the ExpressCard firmly so it doesn't go in while fumbling with the FW800 connector. WAY too fussy...
OK, here's some actual test data, involving transfers of 1,000 MB of files (147 Canon RAW files, approx 7 MB each).
I used three hard drives for various transfers -
    1. Internal stock 100 GB - 5400 rpm (TOSHIBA MK1032GSX)
    2. FW 800 / 400 500 GB - 7200 rpm (Seagate 3500841A in OWC Mercury Elite case)
    3. FW 800 / 400 250 GB - La Cie 7200 rpm drive
All test are transfer of 1 GB of files from HD to HD-
    Test 1: Internal to FW 400 - 68 seconds
    Test 2: Internal to FW 800 - 65 seconds
    Test 3: MBP built in FW 400 daisy-chained - 54 seconds
Test 4: Nitro FW 800 daisy chained - 43 seconds
    Test 5: Nitro FW 800 port A to Nitro FW 800 port B - 43 seconds
Test 6: MBP built in FW 400 to Nitro FW 800 - 35 seconds
So it looks like there is some speed increase, but I was surprised that mixing the FW 400 and FW 800 ports gave the fastest transfer speeds! The Nitro card is dependent on Apple's implementation of buses, and this seems to be the winning combo. Not that intuitive that shifting one of the FW 800 devices down to FW 400 will speed things up, but that's what my simple test seemed to imply.
I didn't test read times only, but it would seem that these should speed up (and hopefully speed up my primary application of Aperture).
    MBP 2.0, 2GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

  • Satellite P300-220 (PSPCCE) and express card with firewire

I have problems with a shared IRQ between firewire (IEEE1394) connector and ati radeon 4600 mobility.(the IRQ used by both device is the 16)
This sharing make my firestudio presonus (sound card external via firewire) problems while reading music on my DAO.
I would like to buy an express card to solve this problem but i must be sure than it will not be the same IRQ (16) than the other firewire connection.
If you are using such a card please verify wich IRQ is used when it's connected on the laptop.
You can see it with the device manager.
    Thanks a lot.
    toskidus

    Hi
The Windows OS controls and assigns automaticity all recourses to all controllers!
In my case the SD host controller and the graphic card shares the same IRQ 16 and there is NO conflict.
So I doubt that your issue is related to the same IRQ which is uses by graphic card and firewire.
Sorry but this is everything what I can suggest regarding your issue

  • Express card adapter for NI Express Card 8360

    Hi All,
I am trying to find a USB or Firewire or eSATA or PCMICIA to express card adapter for my laptop (DELL Latitude E6400) to connect an NI Express card 8360.
I have searched for adapters but they are all based on USB2.0 technology but the link below seems to suggest that USB based adapters wont work.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B5E9398279914984862574F700049847
I was wondering if any of you had the same issue and got it to work one way or the other?
The idea is to use the express card to communicate to a NI PXI-1033 PXI rack.
    thanks and regards,

    Hi ace,
There isn't really anything I can add to this issue except to echo what it said in that link. NI don't manufacture such adapters so I can't recommend any, hopefully someone else has had some experience with this and can offer some advice on the issue.

  • EMac can't find new AP Express card

I bought a new Airport Express card for my downstairs eMac X.4.6. I am writing this on my wireless laptop so I know the Airport wireless is working. I have installed the card twice in the eMac to be sure connections were secure.
When I run the Setup Asst, it says "no airport card installed." I ran the installer that came with the card, have shutdown and restarted. I am at a loss as to what to do next. The computer was previously on a cable modem and worked fine. Any suggestions?
    KC

So, are you still saying your eMacG4 (May 2003 or newer) does not see
the Extreme card? Did you remove and then carefully and somewhat force-
fully reinstall the card; being sure it snaps down into the slot all the way?
Could be, that since the OS X was upgraded and originally the machine
    did not have the Airport Card installed, it may be stubborn in seeing it;
if there is no physical problem in the connections to the card, or the card.
Since the software is installed in the computer even when the card is
not present (in OSX) the hardware change should not be a problem.
If you have a way of testing the eMac's Airport Extreme card in another
computer, and/or swapping the card with another of the same spec to see
if the issue resides in the Card or in the Computer (software or hardware)
that may narrow down the problem a little more.
I'm not sure if such things as resetting the PRAM or other keyboard
startup voodoo will do, to suffice in resolving this issue. If the System
can't see the Card in the Profiler, it either isn't connected or it may be
a damaged card. Cross-testing in another machine can check this; and
if the card is proven to likely be defective after checking/testing, you
may be able to get another card from the retailer you bought it from.
    Good luck in this matter!

Hello everyone.  I am having issues with the built-in card reader in my HP dv6t-7000.  I know that this kind of question has been asked before, but I am unable to find a solution.  I am new to Arch, but have used almost ALL other distros.  Arch is the first Linux on my laptop.   Now down to the details.

The card reader class is Unassigned.  Why?  I followed this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=206464 and installed the realtek driver with no sucess. dmesg shows no changes. The card reader is basically ignored.
according to lsmod the module is active.

  • FW Express card

for some reason i can't post in the Mac book pro forum, but wondered if anyone was using or had a recommendation for a Firewire 800 Express card.
I have a WD 800 HD and Saffire pro 26 (fw400). I want to put my drive on a separate bus and get max speed. Anyone know if you actually get the full 800 speed using express card (another user posted a speed test with 56mbs instead of 80mbs when using express card)
    cheers
    JD

FWIW, For maximum HD speed, your best bet is to get an Express Card eSATA controller... and use an eSATA HD.
I'm doing this - note that under Leopard, there are some compatibility issues in the driver for the Sil3132 (the chip inside virtually all the current expresscard eSATA cards), that cause a variety of issues if you have an external HD that has multiple interfaces (ie, USB+eSATA, FW+eSATA etc).
On my WD MyBook drive, the disk hangs after half an hour or so, so I've moved this back to the FW port until these issues get resolved in the next driver version. My other audio drive is Ok on eSATA I think...
It is pleasantly faster than FW....

  • Using a solid state express card as the boot volume...?

    So here's an idea...
If I buy the new Transcend 32GB SSD Express card and fit it to my MacBook Pro (2.16 Intel Core Duo), can I install the OS to it and make it the startup drive?
I'm wondering if this means I can have a fast, stable startup drive which only has to deal with running Leopard, and then I can keep my home folder, applications, content etc. on my internal hard drive.
Can anyone see any downsides to this, or re-assure me that this is a great idea..?
Will it make my machine start up faster?
Are there any issues with keeping an express card drive in the machine the whole time?
    Thanks!
    t.

First find out if it is even bootable. Some express cards require drivers. These drivers are not loaded until after startup so any drives connected to them are not bootable. This may also be the case for the Transcend card. Their performance specifications suggest they are not any faster than your hard drive and in some cases even slower. They are also very expensive.

  • ESATA PCI Express card not being recognized

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz and I'm having trouble getting an eSATA PCI Express card to be recognized in either MAS OS X (10.5.6) or Win XP SP3.
When I plug a FireWire PCI Express card into the slot with a drive attached it gets recognized right away but the eSATA doesn't.
I can go into the system profiler when the card is plugged in and MAC OS X sees the card but the drive doesn't get mounted, or there is no prompt for me to initialize the drive (if it's a new, non-formatted drive). I've tried installing the driver that comes with the eSATA card with no change.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try?

    Hi,
Typically, this type of issue is caused by an incompatible enclosure or a card problem.
Please provide a link to the card and the enclosure for additional help. If you need an ExprressCard/enclosure combination that works I would suggest FirmTek.
