Express Media Player source - where to download?

hello, I can't find any links for downloading the source for the Express Media Player that came with my laptop. Does anybody know of such links? I hope we don't have GPL violators here...

Hi, first of all: why did you delete my account? That's not going to earn any repeat customers. Please explain yourself or I will have to think the worst of your actions and pass on the experience.
>Sorry but as far as I know the Express Media Player is a Toshiba own application designed and development only for the Toshiba users who buy the >Toshiba notebook. I dont think that Toshiba will publish any source codes from EMP.
Toshiba are legally obliged too. And I very much doubt that Toshiba Legal aren't aware of this. Let me re-iterate, EMP is simply an embedded version of Linux, it's not a secret. It even says so in the Toshiba publicity blurbs and PDF that I just found (In the EULA directory on the windows partition) Linux is released under the GPL (please _read the link I posted above!) and therefore any of its components that were modified and that were also GPL must have their modifications available in source code form to any customers who received EMP. Note that I said only components that were GPL, if Toshiba created extra non-GPL components, they are well within their right not to disclose the source code.
Please, if you don't have the required knowledge, just say so. Don't supply me with obvious lies, you're doing Toshiba a great disservice.
Please also see http://gpl-violations.org/ for more of an idea of what I'm talking about.
I have to say the response so far has been very disappointing. If I'm asking the wrong people, please just say so, and kindly advise me who I should be asking instead.

  • Need Express Media Player source code

Where I can get It? (even Google couldn't find it).
It seems like GPL licence violation...

You cannot get the source code because its not a open-source program. Its a core component from toshibas hardware and I dare to doubt that they wont give us the code which they are coding and earning money with it.
So you can do one thing: you can try to make reverse engineering and to recode the express media player in a open source version to implement that on toshiba notebooks.

  • Libretto U100: Screen to small playing movie with Express Media Player

    Hello.
I have a Toshiba Libretto U100 with DVD Dock, and when I use Express Media Player to play DVDs, the image on the screen is too small. I have look for the way to make it play in full screen mode, but I haven't been successful.
    Now the questions.
It's there a way to change to full screen mode? If so, please detail.
If it isn't possible with the included version, it's there a new version or upgrade available with this feature? where can I get (if it is free) or buy (if it is not) it?
Thanks in advance and best regards. Your help would be very appreciated.

Oh yes, you can if you get close enaugh !! . I only use it for travels.
Thank you very much for that fast and usefull answer. I have checked the "full screen" check box, have turn off the computer to start in "Express media player mode", and it works full screen.
And about screen borders, they are bigger in surface than that of the picture. Absurd, isn't it?
Nice to have received the answer from other spanish. I'm spanish too.
    Muchas gracias, Juan28.

  • Express Media Player (EMP) recovery disc - Satelite P105-S6024

I have some problem with my express media player software on my new machine Satelite P105-6024.
As I have bought it everything work properly. But then, I have made partitions on my HDD and have instaled whole the software from recovery discs. And everything looks like earlier and work properly but Express Media Center. It seems it is not installed. I have found the special Express Media Player Recovery Disc but I am not sure how to use it. (I am complite novice). As I have known EMP is a linux-like software and it is not visible in Windows. And as I know there was a special small partition dedicated for this application. This partition has been deleted. And I am not sure it is possible to install EMP once again on my laptop. How should I use the EMP recovery disc? If I simply run it in windows enviroment I can just see some files - but running them nothing is happen. I would appreciate short manual.
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi,
I have found this on the web:
Step-by-Step Installation Guide for Express Media Player and Windows XP Recovery on two partitions in Expert mode:
    1) ALL DATA ON HDD WILL BE IRREVERSABLY DESTROYED (this is serious!)
    2) Install Express Media Player:
Boot from the Express Media Player Recovery CD
-->use [Delete All Partitions] (may be on left side of menu for older Player versions).
THIS WILL ERASE THE COMPLETE HDD!!!!!!!!
    3) Boot with the Windows XP Recovery CD, go to expert mode, and exit the "TOSHIBA Recovery Tool" (OEM Ghost version) using menuitem "Quit"
    4) you may use fdisk.exe or gdisk.exe - I will show the gdisk syntax here
(its easier to describe and there are a lot of descriptions for FDISK on the net)
    5) Now we create two partitions (size 50%:50%-playersize).
    --> At DOS prompt type:
    gdisk 1 /cre /pri /sz:50% -> creates a primary 1st partition
    gdisk 1 /cre /ext -> creates a extended 2nd partition
    gdisk 1 /cre /log -> creates a 2nd partition logical
    gdisk 1 /act /p:1 -> set partionion 1 to active
    6) now reboot with the Windows XP Recovery CD , go to expert mode
    7) Use menu: Local\Partition\From Image, choose GHO image in menu
    8) There should only be ONE source partition available:
1 Primary 07 NTFS DiskLoad ...-> Choose this one!
    9) Select destination HDD (there should be also only one)
    1 <size> Basic ... -> Choose this one!
    10) Now you have to choose the destination partition - there should be three to choose!
    11) Choose:
1 Primary 0c Fat32 No name ...--> !!!!!!!! BE SURE TO CHOOSE THIS ONE !!!!!!!!
    12) Confirm that you want to write on that partition
    13) "TOSHIBA Recovery Tool" is unpacking and installion the Operating System
    14) afterwards the Windows XP and the Media Express Player are install
Hope this will help you. Good luck!

  • Strange Problem with Toshiba Express Media Player on Satellite M115-S3094

I'm experiencing a strange problem in my Toshiba M115-S3094, which was pre-installed with Windows XP Media Center edition and which also had the Toshiba Express Media Player.
I had previously done a clean Vista installation on it, and then I decided to revert back to XP with my recovery DVD. I did the same procedures of first installing Express Media Player from Backup (which I made when i purchased the laptop) and then installing XP from Windows XP recovery DVD from Toshiba.
    The steps included:
1- Deleted partitions from Express media player recovery disk
    2- Installed express media player
3- Recovered Xp from Recovery DVD, by selecting "Recover without changing Partitions" (there is no expert mode)
Everything went very well (i.e. the installation)......But now after shutting down my laptop as I press the Express Media Center button, the "Express Media Player" logo appears on the screen after loading for 5 seconds laptop shutdowns,
I tried to open it again and again but the logo appears for 5 seconds and then my laptop shutdown....
Laptop works fine when I logon to windows by pressing power button.
Can anyone help on this strange issue..?

    Hi Jaba
    Thnx for reply.
Now i would answer the questions asked by you and try to clear you confusion,
Yes, Express Media Player was previously installed on my machine, and I have used it, it was perfectly working.
About installation of Media Player, The whole story is that, firstly i wasnt known about how to make a Toshiba express media player recovery cd through windows, so downloaded an ISO of the media player from a forum and install media player by first deleting partitions.
After that I can again installed xp through recovery dvd and choose the option "out of box" state and then selected "install without changing partitions"
After a successfull recovery, I shutdown my pc and pressed the media player button, the media player logo appeared for 5 seconds and then my laptop shutsdown, this is happening all the time when i start my laptop by the Express media player button.
After this I read somewhere how to create a backup recovery cd for Express media player, So i run the recovery disk creater and made a backup of Toshiba Express media player.
After doing the above procedure I again formated my hard drive through recovery dvd and selecting the option "Delete partitions and overwrite sectors". When this was finished, i booted my laptop with the newly made recovery cd for express player, after selecting English as my language, This it what said:
"Installation Error" An error occured due to wrong system ID or unsufficient space on hard drive, press escape to quit.
THE ABOVE IS THE WHOLE PROCESS IN COMPLETE DETAIL.
    AND JAMA,
About the link you provided, it says that on the Recovery dvd select the option for "Expert Mode", but in my recovery dvd (for Toshiba M115- S3094) there is no such option as expert mode, there are only two options
1- Restore laptop to "out of box" state
    2- Format Hard Drive

  • Recovery Disk Creator (Express Media Player)

    Hello,
This is my first visit to these forums.  I bought my Toshiba Satellite A105-S4284 laptop back in November 2006 from CompUSA.  Recently, I had to take my laptop to a local repair shop because I updated McAfee and the desktop froze-  this is just some previous info, this problem is fixed.  They just backed up my data, then reinstalled the operating system.
I'm trying to create a recovery disk using the pre-install software that came with the laptop.  It is called "Recovery Disk Creator (Express Media Player)".  I used this in the past many times before I had the problem explained above, but this is the first time I am using it since I pick my laptop up from the repair shop.  I get the following error message when I double click on the shortcut icon on the desktop: "Recovery Disc Creator-  No compatible Recordable or Rewritable devices could be found on your system."  Also, when I use Nero 9 Nero Express I just get failed attempts and the DVD/CD ejects.  Both of these worked fine before.
    My specs:
    Toshiba Satellite A105-S4284
Intel Centrino Duo T 2050 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2   (both worked before with SP2)
    Thank you

If you have used this in the past to create the disks just use one of the previous disks to restore the system.  The disk you made previously would be exactly the same as you would create now.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Satellite A105-S2101 - Can't watch DVDs with Express Media Player

I got this Satellite A105-S2101 notebook computer, and the LCD blew out on me within 2 years.
Luckily, I can still make use of the VGA, and S-Video outputs, but it may as well be a desktop PC now. Anyway, I just wanted to add that because of this problem, I no longer am able to watch DVDs with Express Media Player because it wont accept VGA or S-Video as defaults just my busted-up, good-for-nothing, always blurry anyway LCD.
It's only when I am in Windows mode that I can toggle to an external monitor.
The reason I write is, if there ever was a need to add anything for an update to EMP--now's the time and that would be something to add to it. What the heck?

    Hi
I think the Express Media Player does not run in Windows mode
I mean it's not neccessary to run the Windows OSin order to run Express Media Player and therefore the video output does not work in connection with EMP.
I think you will have to use an Windows based software player VLC player is very nice. I use it too its small, free tool and you can play almost all files audio and video.

  • Satellite A80: Express Media Player to play MP3?

The Express Media Player of my Satellite A80 can only play standard Audio CD formats. Is there a new version of the EMP available that allows to also
play MP3 format either from CD or DVD?
The EMP is really an excellent tool and MP3 is nowadays a very popular Audio format which should be incorporated in the EMP formats.

    Hi
As far as I know at the moment there is no version that can play mp3 format but I hope that in the near future Toshiba will designe version that can be use with this most popular format for music files.

  • Toshiba Express Media Player recovery

I replaced my 100GB HDD (Toshiba manufactured, which included Toshiba Express Media Player by factory default) with 320 GB HDD (Toshiba). I want to install Toshiba EMP.
When I boot from EMP recovery disc received this message:
Recovery is not supported on this system. Press any keys to exit. (my OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate)
Also I receive this message on old HDD. Also OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate & Windows XP Professional x86.
When I install different operating systems (Red Hat, Debian) on my old HDD Toshiba EMP working & not removed although I deleted partitions & etc.
I updated my BIOS version from 3.00 to 5.60 for install Windows 7 few years ago.
    Maybe BIOS hinder?

Ok. Long time ago I had Satellite M70 with the same option to install Toshiba Express Media Player.
It was delivered with two recovery discs.
By the way on Toshiba support page in knowledge base I found only one document related to this player - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ5C018T000FR01.htm
But I think it will not help you much.
As I already wrote this package was designed for WXP at this time and I never tested it with Win7.
It is nice that you want to use and mix old and new stuff but if this will not work there is nothing to do about that.
As far as I know the whole thing has nothing to do with BIOS and you should be happy that Win7 works perfectly on this old piece of hardware.
Anyway, lets see if anyone else has better experiences with all this.

  • Satellite Pro M70-273: Functionality of the Express Media Player feature

I bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70-273 "Limited Edition" (?) two weeks ago. The model number is PSM76E-00J00QDU, model name SPM76, production date 2006-02-21. According to the specifications I found in the online user's manual or in a folder with publication references
"TEG October 2005, Art. N0. DSSSPM70 10/05NLBE", there is an "Express Media Feature" "on some selected models" ...
It is not clear if yes or no, the model I bought has it. I have a "CD/DVD Button" that I use to launch my built-in dvd player (e.g. WinDVD), but this does not work as specified as "a standalone disc drive" that plays a dvd (film) without needing to startup Windows.
To watch the dvd film, after using the CD/DVD button, I have to boot into Windows, login into Windows XP and when the desktop is started, the WinDVD screen will show the film.
This is not what I'm expecting from a standalone dvd player. My old notebook has a "dj function" with which one can play a cd without booting into Windows, (or powering up the notebook), just by pressing a special key on the front . How about the promised feature of the Toshiba Satellite Pro?
Is there an "Express Media Player" functionality at all? How can I check if the feature is provided? I used the setup provided, the first time I used my notebook. I don't wish to use the recovery cd rom provided unless it might be absolutely indispensable to install this missing feature.

    John
With the laptop you should have received a restore/recovery disc. This contains utilities to either replace individual drivers and tools, plus a complete 'image' of the base build that your laptop has when it is built at the factory
Although I have never used this, it is supposed to completely wipe all data and setings from ythe laptop by first formatting the hard drive then reinstalling the operating system and applications back to factory settings. From comments elsewhere on this forum one of the few options you can have when you do this is to choose to partition the hard drive into 2 sections, one for the Express Media player, the other for the operating system etc. (as the Express Media operates without booting into the operating system).
The process is designed to be user friendly as it guides you through it, but as I said it does wipe EVERYTHING you have on the laptop currently, which is why I never bothered after I realised it wasn't installed. By the sounds of it though it won't be too much hassle for you to do that as you have data/settings you can easily transfer afterwards (Win XP has a tool to help with this)
The Gigastore hub I have found very good, and likewise the Gigastore hard drive, although others have posted here about their laptops not 'seeing' the hard drive in certain conditions
If you want anything further I check here fairly regularly, or you can mail me - [email protected]

  • Sat M70: How to recover function of Express-Media-Player?

I have M70 but I formatted it once I bought it. Now, could you tell me how to recover function of Express-Media-Player? there is not setup.exe file in the Express-Media-Player recovery CD/
    Thanks

    Hello Weimin
In order to use the Express Media functions the Express Mediaplayer Recovery CD must be run before performing the Product Recovery from the Recovery DVD-ROM.
You cannot run Express Media player after performing a recovery.
On the HDD should at least 150 - 200MB free space be available.
This free space should be on the end of the HDD and it must be unallocated.
To start the installation you have to boot from the Express Mediaplayer Recovery CD

  • Can't download plug in for windows media player. Have used download site and it says it worked, but plug in is not showing up on my list of plug ins.

I tried to hear a conference call on a website. Got a message, needed windows media plug in. Checked my plug ins, no windows media. Read tutorial on firefox support. Clicked on download. Got a window that asked for repair or change. Tried repair, then change. Need better directions on how to finish download. Got message download successful, but after closing firefox and reopening, still no plug in for windows media in list of plug ins. Went to site and could not hear conference.
Read support forum. Message about using about:config. Tried this, typed in about: config in start menu, but didn't see anything that looked like I could change to true like message said.
solved by opening internet explorer and going to website and listening to conference call on windows media player. There was a message saying click here if you want to enable media player. Did so, heard conference.
Tried using chrome. Got to hear conference yesterday. Today, there was same message about needing plug in when I tried to follow instructions to get plug in, it was as confusing and useless as firefox. The bottom line is I tried to do everything set forth in firefox's forum suggestions and can't get the windown media plug in to show up in my list of plug ins and can't hear conference calls on firefox.
Chrome did say they were working on getting plug in available at chrome store.
I agree with comments that I was able to go to web sites and hear calls before firefox made an update that removed my windows media plug in. The simple download fix, presumeably from windows, does not work, apparently because firefox can't find the fix. That is not the user's fault, and it looks like windows tried to provide a fix, and firefox won't recognize it.
Bottom line, it is easier to use another browser, than try and get the windows media player plug in installed on firefox. What good is a browser, if you can't hear a call on the website that the browser takes you to? Please make it easy to install the windows media plug in on firefox. Thank you..

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
    (1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
    (2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
    Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.
''Edit: I suggest just doing #1.''

  • Safari opens with a pop-up 'update media player' and starts to download it.

    Mid 2010 iMac 8Gb memory. OSX 10.9.5.
Each time I open Safari a pop-up appears telling me to update the media player and asks me to click OK. the progress bar shows it is trying to download it from kgezz.easyddl.hairdreer.xyz. I quit Safari asap. General info from searches (in Firefox!) shows media player updates are used to put Trojans or other malicious control software in place.
What is the best course to take? I feel I should remove Safari and all files associated with it so it can be reinstalled but CleanMyMac2 doesn't list Safari in the programmes that can be removed completely and I'm aware just dragging the app to Trash doesn't remove all associated files, which may be causing this problem.

    1.Quit Safari.
Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
    2. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
        Click “Remove All Website Data”.
    3. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test.

  • Downloading stuffit expander for windows media player 9 download

I want to download windows media player 9 to my mac mini b/c a lot of the emial files i get are .wmv not .wav files and of course Quicktime Player does not support .wmv files. So of course i need window media player but in order to download windows media player, i have to download stuffit expander to expand the files. But i am having issues with stuffit downloading to my computer. It is saying "mouting failed". Can someone please help me out??? It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm very new, but installed Stuffit just a few days ago without issue. Since no one else has jumped in, all I can offer are my guesses, but I guess that's more than you've got so far:
If you do a "Get Info" in the desktop, are the "Ownership and Permissions" (click the "details" arrow below it) such that you have read and write permissions to the desktop? Also, by now, if you haven't tried re-downloading it, I'd do that. My StuffitEXP10.dmg file is: 8,665,578 bytes in size for reference. Hope you get it squared away.

  • Blu-ray DVD no longer recognized by HP MediaSmart or Windows Media Player

I have the HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer. This computer includes a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. I bought this computer in 2010, and all these years I have successfully played CDs and DVDs on the computer. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
A few days ago, I rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD from my public library. The "Divergent" regular DVD was included in the package.
I put the Blu-ray into the CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. The HP MediaSmart software recognized the Blu-ray, but the software got into an endless "update" loop and did not play the Blu-ray. Microsoft's Windows Media Player also recognized the Blu-ray, but did not play the Blu-ray.
One solution I heard about was to plug an HDMI patch cord into the back of my computer box, with the other end of the HDMI patch cord not plugged into anything. Supposedly, the HP MediaSmart software would play a Blu-ray if the software sensed an HDMI cord. Unfortunately, that did not work.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    Supposedly, this Codec Pack would allow the Windows Media Player to play the Blu-ray. The Codec Pack included the Classic Media Player.
I tried to play the Blu-ray on the current Windows Media Player and the Classic version, with the new codecs installed. But nothing worked. I then used System Restore to get rid of the  Media Player Codec Pack. I found out that, in addition to the codecs, I was supposed to use the Slysoft AnyDVD HD software. However, I did not make any more attempts to use the codecs, and I did not download the Slysoft software.
Now, here's where things get weird. Now, the HP MediaSmart software and the current Windows Media Player do not even *recognize* the Blu-ray DVD. They play the regular "Divergent" DVD very well. But they do not even *see* the Blu-ray DVD.
I uninstalled the BDDVDRW CH20L driver, version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255). I restarted the computer, and a new driver was installed. The new driver's version is 6.1.7601.17514. But the Blu-ray DVD is *still* not being recognized.
Now, I'm hearing that a Blu-ray lens cleaner may be required.
So, what's going on here? Did the codecs in the Codec Pack damage the Blu-ray lens? Please advise.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, BH. Thanks for your response.
sp60287.exe seems to be for Windows 8. I have Windows 7.
But even if I got a PowerDVD version for Windows 7, I still have the issue of the Blu-ray disc not even being detected. The Blu-ray disc is in the drive, but the software (HP MediaSmart, Windows Media Player) says that there is no disc in the drive. This "no detection" issue began after I installed the codecs in the Codec Pack and tried to make Windows Media Player work with the codecs. Is there an issue with the Blu-ray lens? Or is there an issue with the Blu-ray disc itself?
I notice that the regular "Divergent" DVD has no fingerprints on it, even after I touch it. But the Blu-ray DVD has lots of fingerprints. Does the Blu-ray have some kind of weird surface? Is there some problem with the Blu-ray's surface that is causing the Blu-ray to not even be detected?
    Thanks.
