Express vi Title position

Hello,
in the Express VI I can specify the custom VI title that will be finally placed in block diagram. Can I also change the positon of the label?
The problem is, that if I want to have 2 lines label, it is always placed over the VI icon:

With 2012 and later you can change the default label justification for vi's on a BD. VI's labels fall under "Other" There is even a checkbox to automatically show subvi labels. set the option to right-top or bottom anything and the growth won't cause grief. (Well, bottom-xxx may interfer with polymorphic selectors) Also uncheck "Labels locked by default" to make it easier to move labels on new vi's. There is a Right-click setting to lock/unlock labels on individual objects

CC particle world expression: link to title position

Hi there,
All I'm simply wondering is how to link the cc particle world producer position points to the position of a title I want the particles to follow. I tried pick whipping the producer position x to the title position and the following expression (on the position x of producer in cc particle world) was created:
thisComp.layer("TEXT").transform.position[0]
This makes the particles disappear.
Any ideas as to why this is happening. In the Andrew Krammer tutorial I am following it works for him, although he is using particular.

I use PW often to track other layers. I do not use an expression, though, I just parent the emitter to the motion path or mask shape/position. I am most often outlining text objects or doing the ol' laser carving in combination with Shatter. in that case, I parent the Shatter force sphere to a null that is tracing the outline path and parent the PW emitter to the same null. Easy and direct and very cliché.

Title positions in 16:9 format

iMovie 6.0.2 doesn't seem to understand vertical title positioning in 16:9 wide format. For example, adding an MTV style music video text block will place half the last line of text across the bottom of the "letter box." I've tried padding the bottom with extra carriage returns, but to no avail. iMovie seems clever enough to prevent that from working but not clever enough to figure out why I had to resort to this tactic in the first place. Anyone know of a workaround, or will I have to buy a 3rd party plugin?

Because the Aspect Ratio (PAR in this case) is off, between the image and the Project, Scale to Fit is actually working correctly. The height is matching in both. Probably the easiest way to handle this would be to Rt-click on the image in the Project Panel and chose Interpret Footage. Set the PAR to 1.2 (NTSC Widescreen) from 0.9 (NTSC 4:3). You can also take your image into Photoshop (PS) and change the PAR, or Crop as necessary to fit.
Before I Import any still images into Pr, I always size them in PS to match my Projects' setting.

Is it possible to Lock Title Position

I have used Appleworks for many many years. A few years ago I downloaded a trial of iWork after they started offering a spreadsheet program. I was happy with the Numbers software with one huge exception. It did not offer a way to Lock Title Position as Appleworks spreadsheet does. Quite frankly, I don't see how anyone can use the Numbers spreadsheet if the document you're working on encompasses more than one page without having the title locked. Each column was named and I would have to scroll up constantly to see which column I was working on. I wound up calling Apple Support and they confirmed that there was no way to do this. My question is, has this been corrected in the current version of Numbers?

For me it's not a problem. I used my memory and, to help it, I applied different background colours to columns so I was able to know in which column I was. And, most of the time, it's quitr easy to recognize it by the kind of content which is in the surrounding cells.

Please help! no matter where I seem to set the curser to Quantise to Snap or Beat or Bar however much I try to
set the Curser Line to say I dont know a BAR or a BEAT LINE it goes either side!! then theres Overlap and No Overlap, this helps in some cases,
but when i look below to a simple Midi loop I've done using Razor the end points have changed due to overlap being changed to an aboe track! it drives me nuts, LOGIC PROGRAMMERS! Why should I have to ZOOM IN AND IN AND IN (even with magic trackpad its horrible) just to get the curser to SNAP TO THE LINE! like Bar 57: 1 :1 :1 Logic Express could be much better labled as far as QUANTIZE and SNAP ON n OFF goes! then in INSPECTOR for each Audio or Midi track I have been finding it impossible to set the quantise here and I have 2 books!
I got my AIF file inspector properties and it only shows a Loop tickbox. I should not have to setup multiple marker points and use as a template, its just more time wasting, Acid Pro is sooo fast you should see how simple it is to get an idea down! all I to chop beats n bars of samples and guess what I want the beats and brs to LINE UP with the GRID PATTERN when I drag or point to it, ffs! its not to much to ask is it?, how about some simple global quantize parameters like snap to 1/16th includes wavs , midi parts when range selected after live takes, and how do I get the View to goto the point I have ZOOMED TO like the Curser, and how do I stop these stupid forums not let me correct or add text without distroying the text infront!!!!@AAHAHHFiKGSFHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry but I paid thousands for better sound quality it shouldnt be so **** hard to get a curser to snap to a line thats AIFs and Midi , I shouldnt have to spend hours looking at books and tutorials on youtube this the very basics I'm talking about.

did you trash the preferences file?
Your User / Library / Preferences / com.apple.logic.express.plist
It could be that you have the preference that Logic loads last loaded project? Maybe the project is corrupt? Try moving the project folder to a different location.

GREP expression - find Title Case

Hello all,
ID CS4, Vista ultimate.
I'm trying to make GREP expression to find all words that starts with the
capital letter (like Italy, America, Europe, John, etc) and to mark them
with the character style. This is the expression that I figure out:
\<[A-Z]|[ÈÆ©®Ð]
The problem is that this finds the words but select only first, capital
letter and apply character style on this first letter but I want to apply
character style on whole word (not just on "J" in "John" but to entire
"John" word).
Is there anyone who knows how to make GREP expression to find entire words
that begin with the capital letter?

A slightly more efficient way could be

character -- and that includes upper- as well as lowercase, digits, the hyphen, and perhaps some more characters. I don't know about the (C) and (R)'s (what are they doing there?).
As a refinement on Peter's expression, though, there is no need to separate [A-Z] and [ÈÆ©®Ð] and then join them again using the OR | and parentheses. You can put everything inside the square brackets, as
>[A-ZÈÆ©®Ð]
means just that: A to Z
i and
the accented characters and (C), (R). Since you probably don't want to accidentally skip other accented characters (as the You Never Know Principle applies here), I'd suggest

Trying to make a looped animation outside of comp space: expression or keyframe?

Not quite sure on how to title it but thats the jist if it:)

Basically, I want to take a tiny small shape object within a comp size of 2048 x 1024, and have it animated so that this small shape object starts at the very top edge of the comp (where comp meets the grey dark-matter space), and move it straight down to the bottom edge of the comp, and then have to repeat again starting at the top again, so that this small shape object is constantly starting at the top, and moving down to the bottom.
From there I can adjust speed and even angle of travel so that I can rotate the trajectory and have it move at an angle for example.
Is there a expression that can repeat this tragectory over and over again without me always keyframing it??

You can set 2 position keyframes then add this expression to the Position property.
loopOut("cycle")
that will get you to the looping movement stage of your project. Now Pre-compose the layer and add time remapping to adjust the speed.
I'll have to think of a way to automate the rest. It will involve some advanced expressioneering.

Auto Calculate not working in Locked Title.

I am in the process of upgrading from AW 5.0.4 to AW 6.2.9
Just as a matter of interest and also it may help some who suffer the "Autocalc on strike" bug.
I ran into the "Autocalc on strike" bug in two large spreadsheets when they were saved as AW 6. I use these spreadsheets continually from year to year to keep annual track of my business so they are important to me.
All of the many calculations and references updated automatically as data was entered, except those that were placed in the "Locked Title". These needed the manual "Calculate Now" command to force them to respond.
I tried the "save in AW 5 and save back into AW 6" trick but this did not work.
The solution that fixed both spreadsheets was to:
Quit AW 6
Open copies of the original AW 5 spreadsheets in AW 5.
Go to "Options" menu and uncheck "Lock Title position"
Save
Quit AW 5
Open and save the spreadsheets in AW 6 again.
The title can be locked again if desired.
Wonderful.... now I have my precious spreadsheets and database working perfectly in AW 6 and access to my many files produced over the last eight years, here's to another ten years of using Appleworks.

Am I connected to my Airport Express or Airport Extreme?

I just set up my Airport Express to extend my AEBS and am not sure which device I am connecting to on my iPad. Is there a way to find this out?
I am only getting one bar on the iPad, even though I am sitting ten feet from the Express. The light is a solid green on the Express.
I set it up as a WDS network because the Express can't handle 802.11n.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just set up my Airport Express to extend my AEBS and am not sure which device I am connecting to on my iPad. Is there a way to find this out?
Open AirPort Utility and click on your AEBS. In the window to the right, you'll see the AirPort ID of the AEBS. Do the same for the AirPort Express.
Now, position your laptop near the AirPort Express and hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID. That should match the AirPort ID of the AirPort Express.
If you do the same thing near the AEBS, then you should see the AirPort ID of the AEBS.

Why do my video timings, specially in the parts where there are titles get changed when changing the format in a file converter?

Hi, i am currently working on a project in NSTC format but seem to have a technical problem. I have exported it (in wmv.) but i want to convert it to MP4 (iPod) and DVD format. Now, I have tried to convert the video with many pieces of software and they all seem to change my timings (e.g a title is shown before it should). This doesnt happen in the .wmv file but it seems to happen on both DVD and NSTC. Am I doing something wrong in premiere or is it another problem?

I am not sure that I am following. You have a Sequence in PrP, and have your Titles positioned and their Duration set, as you need. (I'm assuming Lower Thirds, or similar). Your preview verifies that everything is proper and satisfactory. Then, when you Export to certain formats, the Titles have "moved," so that they no longer accompany the proper visual from, say Video Track 1. Is that correct? If so, I am sorry to say that I have no idea how that could happen. I just want to get clarification on the exact problem, and will consider what could be afoot. Also, others will likely benefit from a bit more info.

Unstable Airport Express connection

I have a problem of unstable connection to the Internet via Airport Express and Time Capsule. I have read a number of messages in the Discussions and learnt the signal-to-noise measurement. But, I still cannot resolve my own problem: the wireless connection of my iMac in my study room is unstable. Please help.
I have a 2TB Time Capsule in my bedroom. It connects to the Internet. I have two Airport Express (AX1 and AX2). I placed AX1 in my study room for my iMac. The bedroom and the study room are on the same floor. There is a concrete wall between them. I placed AX2 in the living room downstairs of the study room for my MacBook Pro.
I used Airport Utility 5.5 and found the signal-to-noise values as below:
Time Capsule has 2 clients.
AX1: Signal -78dBm. Noise -87dBm. Rate 2. Type 802.11b/g/n.
AX2: Signal -84. Noise -93. Rate 2. Type 802.11b/g/n.
AX1 has 2 clients:
Time Capsule: Signal -24. Noise -95. Rate 104. Type Wireless.
iMac: Signal -63. Noise -93. Rate 117. Type 802.11b/g/n.
AX2 has 3 clients:
Time Capsule: Signal -24. Noise -95. Rate 52. Type Wireless.
iPhone: Signal -24. Noise -95. Rate 1. Type 802.11b/g.
MacBook Pro: Signal -52. Noise -88. Rate 145. Type 802.11b/g/n.
Does it mean that AX1 and AX2 receive good signals from Time Capsule (-24-(-95)=71) but Time Capsule receives very poor or no signal from either AX1 or AX2 (-78-(-87)=9 or -84-(-93)=9)?
Airport Utility shows a chart of signal. The signals of iMac and MacBook Pro drop and rise frequently. It drops for 1 or 2 minutes and then rise for 10 or 15 seconds and then drops and rise again. What is the likely cause that drops the signal intermittently?
Finally, my intention is to use AX2 to connect to AX1 instead of Time Capsule. I want AX2 to further extend the network that AX1 has extended. But, it seems that AX2 connects to Time Capsule. I have set Time Capsule as "Create a wireless network" and both AX1 and AX2 as "Extend a wireless network". Is it a correct setting?

The signal and noise values are useful, but what you need to look at is the signal to noise ratio:

Here is a chart of signal to noise values provided by Tesserax:
40dB = Excellent
25dB to 40 dB = Very good
15dB to 25 dB = Low
10dB to 15 dB = Very low
5dB to 10 dB = No usable signal
Your measurements indicate that both of your AirPort Express devices are positioned either too far away from the Time Capsule, or there are too many obstructions between the devices that are absorbing the signal strength. Can you try different positions for the AirPort Express to see if you can establish a better signal?
+Finally, my intention is to use AX2 to connect to AX1 instead of Time Capsule. I want AX2 to further extend the network that AX1 has extended.+
As you note, the AX devices both connect to the Time Capsule. Unfortunately, it is not possible to configure AX2 to connect to AX1 using the "extend" setup.
Think of the "extend" setup like a hub and spoke(s) of a wheel. The Time Capsule is the "hub" and the AX devices are at the ends of the spokes. The AX devices communicate only to the Time Capsule, not each other. Is it possible for you to reposition the Time Capsule in a more central location?

Can i do Expression to keyframes and smooth via script?

hi guys, who know AE scripts can translate expression to linear keyframes via script(now i use app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Convert Expression to Keyframes")) ; command) but , for Comman work i must select every time property of layer(opacity, position, scale, etc) where i have expression.... but i need translate very many layers, i always click on property with expression and then do Convert Expression to Keyframes its to long.., can i do something like this

AE has "Smoother" panel, but as far as I know you can`t access it via scripting using app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Smoother")) or something.

Empty item in the first position of a select box

Hello.
I'm trying to reproduce a very common behaviour of
combo-boxes with Spry, without much success.
My code populates a combo-box trough a Spry XML dataset.
All the items are correctly displayed; the first element in
the XML is showed as the default value of the combo box. I would
like though to visualize a blank item as a default value. Of course
I could simply add an empty element in my XML but I find it a
rather ugly solution. Could you suggest me how to solve the problem

Thanks. We do have Adobe CC and therefore I have access to PrPro but I spent some time getting to know Element's interface already and was hoping I would not have to use PrPro, which is slightly more complicated.
It is only small to medium edit jobs that I need editing software for anyway.
That is a shame really!
As far as I am aware, there is a newer version (PE12) that is now availble. Does anyone know if they have improved the functionality in terms of precise title positioning in that latest version?
