Express will NOT connect to CHANNEL #1 on BASE - HELP?

12-1-05
Please help or advise, at the end of my rope here.
New Apple Express, set to "join existing network", using for Airtunes into stereo in next room. Battleing the drop-out problem well reported in other thread.
Living in an apartment in a busy city, I see at least SIX other networks in iStumbler, half on Channel #6, the other half on Channel #11. Even though my Buffalo G54 WAP (wireless access point connect to DSL modem) is right behind my G4 Titanium, the other networks have almost the same signal strength I'm seeing. I can stream the audio on CH #11, but with the drop-out audio problem much of the time, so my GOAL, was to switch the Buffalo to Channel # 1.
PROBLEM: I have done the procedure very many times in two days, including even doing the "hard" reset of the Express unit. Have used both Airport Admin Utitlity, as well as Airport Setup Assistant, etc. I can switch the Buffalo WAP to CH #1 no problem, and get online same as always. But have NOT once been able to get the "green light" on the Express, and nothing on the computer can see the Express at all, rebooted etc. Just will NOT connect as long as the WAP is on CH # 1.
Back to Channel #11 on WAP, the Airport Express connects and works like before. ANY CLUES WHY I CAN'T CONNECT TO the Apple Express uing CHANNEL # 1 ???
I've tried everything I know at this point, channel one looks like a strong signal here, but so far have been unable to try it for Express Airtunes streaming. THANKS!

I'm not sure about cable connection but I've recently connected to Bigpond using one of their Siemens ADSL modems connected through my Airport Express.
Bigpond help desk were very helpful and suggested that I needed to reset the DSL modem to Bridge Mode, instructions were obtained from the Siemens website. After you have printed off the instructions. First reset your router without your Airport connected and ensure your router is working correctly in Bridge Mode.
Enter the URL address http://10.0.0.138 at the top of your browser for Bigpond and login with Username "admin" and Password "admin" then follow the steps you have printed off.

  • New Airport Express will not connect to internet

I am attempting to upgrade from an old Airport Base Station (the gum drop/flying saucer/mushroom model) to the new and improved mini tower model. I plugged the ethernet cable from the comcast cable modem in and nothing worked - no wireless, no internet, no nothing but flashing amber light. I was able to configure a new wireless network, and it shows up on MBPro running Maverick and iPad using Airport Utility as a functioning wireless network (with the green light on the AE), but it will not connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

The only step that appears to be missing is to reset your cable or DSL modem. Unplug it and let it rest a moment or two, then power it back up again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2460
You've done everything right, but still can't connect to the Internet. Why?
It is likely that the modem locked onto your iMac, and it will ignore anything else you plug into it until the modem has been reset. If you were to plug the iMac back into the modem, it would still connect to the Internet.
Fortunately, resetting a broadband modem is usually very easy -- just unplug its power supply, wait a moment, and plug it back in. After its indicator lights have gone through their startup routine, you should do the same to the AirPort base station.
Odds are that you can connect to the Internet now.

  • My airport express is not connecting with my airport extreme base station. They are probably six years old. My IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0

My Airport extreme and my airport express are not connecting together. I get an error message saying that my airport express software is not compatible with my Airport extreme and I have use them together for the past five or six years. It says I may need to change my IP address on my computer or something like that but I don't know what to do. the IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0. Should everything be on the same IP address? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Please refer to the information already posted above:
If you see A1084 or A1088 there, your older Express is not supported by the newer version of AirPort Utility that you have.
If you have another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC, then you could use that computer to administer the older Express and it will work on the network along with the AirPort Extreme.
If the Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard or PC does not "see" the A1084 Express, you will need to "hard reset" the Express by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and waiting a full minute for the Express to restart. Then, reconfigure the Express again.

  • Express will not connect to network after Extreme firmware upgrade to 7.2.1

I got the auto update notice for a fimware upgrade to my Extreme to 7.2.1. Once I upgraded I am no longer able to connect my Express. I have done all the resets and have gone through all configuration each time, but after it resets itself after configuring it, it no longer shows up in the AirPort Utility until I reset it again. The only thing unique about my Extreme config is that I have the Radio Mode set to 802.11b/g compatible. This was necessary to connect TiVo wireless USB adapters to the network.

I can tell you that you are not alone - I have tried to crack this one for some days - Im just following the instructions from the Airport assistant and it dosn't work

  • G5 suddenly will not connect to interent via Airport base station.

All of a sudden today, my G5 stopped connecting to the internet via my Airport base station. Usually when this happens, I just go downstairs and unplug the base station, wait 30 seconds, and then restart it. This almost always worked until today. I tried reseting my DSL hub (2wire using SBC) and after a few tries this worked only briefly before my G5 once again stopped recognizing my internet connection. My eMac downstairs, which is not attached wirelessly, connects just fine. When I open the network preferences on my G5, I have a yellow light by the Airport extreme option. I trashed airport prefs and I also trashed Yamipod, which I had just installed and was using right around the time when the G5 stopped connected. I restarted, and verified and repaired disk perms to no avail. Any help?

If you had to perform this kind of restart of your
AEBS frequently, then this may be caused by one of
    these two frequent reasons:
    - you run a buggy firmware version on your AEBS
    (5.6 and 5.7 have this kind of behaviour);
    - you have a new neighbour using a wireless network
on a channel much too near from your own.
If you'd like to check if you may be in one of these
easy to solve cases, just indicate which firmware version
is on your AEBS (AirPort Admin Utility shows it), and
tell us if you have neighbours using wireless network
    (iStumbler shows this).

  • DHCP disappeared and Mac will not connect to internet!

When my Macbook's config is switched to DHCP the Airport Express will not connect to the internet but when it is PPPOE it has not problem at connecting. I never had this problem before but now I am worried and want my DHCP back because it is interfering with other configurations.

Go to the System Preferences and Network and when the Box opens make sure that you are set to Automatic and below that the name of your Network is in there and finally in the box on the left that Wireless or Airport is selected and Drag it to the top of the list and the Green Dot is on the Wireless Network that is selected.
Then repeat it on both computers.

  • Macbook will not connect to any form of internet PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

Can someone help me. I have no idea what to do. I recently bought an Apple Mac Book 1.83Ghz. It was slightly used. It will not connect to the internet, at all. It will connect to my wireless network, and have full signal strength. But when I open safari, or any program requiring internet, it says there is no connection. I have hooked the computer stright up to my cable modem, and it still said no connection. Look I really, really need help. I don't know what to do, and I need to use this laptop asap! Please, if you see this try to help me. It will not connect at all. Please, please help.

Yes, I did. I have a linksys wireless G rougher, and an optimum online cable modem. The cable modem is hooked upto the roughter. I plugger a cord into the roughter, to the computer and that didnt work. I plugged the laptop stright into the cable modem. The modem says there is activity, but it still wont connect. What is important is the wireless. It says that it is connected to my network, but will not go on the internet. I tired setting it up with the progam installed, but when it asks for my network and password, it says that it is inaccurate. I really really need this to work as soon as I can. If you could help me in any way, please do so.
    Thank you so much.

  • My windows PC will not connect with Apple express

My windows XP PC will not connect to Apple Express.

Which exact model of AirPort Express do you have? Which wireless security type is it configured for? Does your Windows XP PC support this type? Can the PC connect if you disable wireless security on the AirPort?

Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Downloaded iOS 6.0.1.  Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router.  Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo).  Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected.  I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6.  Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.

  • Old Airport card (b protocol) will not connect to Airport Express

    Hi,
I have an one year old Intel IMac running OS/X 10.5.7 and recently bought the Airport express. Setup went smooth and fast and within 10 minutes it was working. I did all the software and firmware updates.
Then I connected my wife's Windows laptop, network was detected and the password was accepted immediately so I got that connected as well.
Last, but apparently not least, I tried to connect my G3 iBook running OSX 10.2.8 with an Airport card (not the extreme but the predecessor) so I could use that one in the garden but it will not connect.
When I open the airport icon on the top of the screen then I see the network. If I select it and try to connect I have to enter a password. After a few seconds I get a message that "There was an error joining the selected Airport network".
When I use the Airport Setup assistant to establish the connection if tells me that "the password you entered was incorrect".
I was told that the Airport Express station is able to use a 801.11b protocol since that is what the old card uses.
I checked the password, I used textedit to type it first and the 'cut and paste' but nothing seems to work.
Long story but I hope I gave enough information for someone to resolve this problem for me. I cannot reply immediately to all replies but I will read them all.
    Thank you,
    Henk

Hello CarreraHenk. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Which wireless encryption standard are you using on your new 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station's (AXn) wireless network ... WEP, WPA or WPA2?
For WPA, the minimum requirements are the AirPort Card & OS X 10.3.n. The AirPort Card will not support WPA2.

  • I installed an Extreme in place of an old Express, the various phones and Ipads seem to work on the WiFi but the Mac itself will not connect.  It says something about the IP address.

I installed an Extreme in place of an old Express, the various phones and Ipads seem to work on the WiFi but the Mac itself will not connect.  It says something about the IP address being used by another device.  Second wifi network was also created.  The Mac worked for a few minutes and then gaev up citing eth IP problem......any clues people??

If you have not already done so, now would be a good time to perform a complete network power cycle.......to give everything a fresh start.
Power off every device on the network.....computers, printers, hard drives, etc......in any order that you want
    Wait a full minute
Start the modem, and let it run by itself for 2-3 minutes
Start the next device connected to the modem and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up
    Check the network

  • Airport Express/Mac work fine, Vista PC sees network, but will not connect

I have been working on this for two days. What can I do? I have the latest firmware on the airport express and my utilities are up to date on both PC and Vista (airport s/w ver 5.3.2). It all worked before. Also, my brother wireless printer sees network, but will not connect.

I have a similar issue. I have an AP Express set up for WPA2 Personal, G only. My Mac mini connects fine. My Dell mini9 with XP connects fine. My Dell desktop with Vista64 connects fine, but is local only, no internet.
I have completely reset the AP to factory settings and reconfigured it using the Vista machine, but still no luck. What is going on? Anyone?
