Expression Encoder failed to encode HD video to HD

Hi, its one of my first time using this program so I might of used it wrong, forgive me for this. Hope you guys would read this and help me.
SO the issue I am experiencing is that, the video I uploaded to Encoder is
HD and once I've done editing the video using Encoder (Adding Overlay), I pressed the 'Encode' button. It finished encoding and I checked the output folder for the edited video, but to my dismay,
the edited video has poor quality but still retains the edited aspects.
What am I doing wrong?

Anyone?

  • Encoding home videos for IPhone, AppleTV and IPod Touch

    Hi Folks,
I'm on latest version of Compressor and FCP.
Objective: to encode home video transfers to a format that is suitable for AppleTV, IPhone and Ipod Touch - in an efficient manner (this is key)
99% of the videos would be VHS and camcorder tapes in SD format.
I mentioned efficient manner b/c I tried running and Iphone encode through the presets in Compressor for a 2 hour VHS transfer - nothing fancy, just 12 chapters. I'm on my 2009 quad mac pro with 8 GBs RAM.
The estimator through the 'share' feature said it was going to take over 3 hours before I quit. The other reason I quit is b/c it won't be compatible with AppleTV.
I created DVDs for my client so I tried handbrake using the video_Ts folder and it created an IPhone/IPod Touch file no problem - only 40 minutes. Not bad. I tried the Universal preset and QT gives me an error that the finalized file isn't compatible.
I guess my question is: does it matter quality wise, if I run through Handbrake vs compressor? For this particular client, there are 12 hours worth of videos to compress.
I know about setting up a cluster on my mac pro, but everytime I try more than 1 file in a batch, the subsequent files fail. I can't even set a cluster up with my 2006 mac pro either - yes, I've had discussions with FCP support staff and have tickets. It's a bug
So, any thoughts? 3 hours (at a minimum) seems awfully long to compress.
Of course, I would be charging my client for these videos, but at that length of time, I'm not sure what a feasible cost would be for both sides.
    Cheers,
    keebler

If you are send out self contained movies to be processed in Compressor with Standard Presets (no adjustment to frame controls) you should be getting decent speed. If you want I can try encoding a two hour DV clip. How far did the encoding get before you stopped it? The estimates are not necessarily accurate at the beginning.
Also if you can get the Clusters working (disregarding the size of the batches for a moment) should help with speed. I run into limits of around 20 per batch so make multiple batches. Not the most optimal way, but could be worth it to get them all going. Set them up for overnight and it should be done in the AM.
Creating off the Video_TS folder is compressing compressed material, so it could (should) reduce quality when compared to encoding original source material, though based on the quality of the source it may be more academic...
I would try to get the Compressor end working myself. (Ignore using share, just open Compressor and put movies into it.)

  • Z10 vs H264 Live Smooth Streaming under IIS 7 and Expression Encoder 4

    Hello all,
First, sorry about my english, I habitually speak french.
I just got my Z10 today and I'm trying to figure out how to stream live to that kind of device via Live Smooth Streaming, running on a win2k8 server feeded by MS Expression Encoder 4 (w/ H264 codec). I'm very far to be a developper or programmer, but I'm actually able to push streams for different devices, such as Windows Mobile and iOS devices since 3 years. I configured a new stream with different recommended specs supported by the Z10, but it always returns me than "this type of media is not supported and cannot be played". By example, in Expression I use a profile named "H264 Low Bandwidth" with these preconfigured standards settings:
    H.264 Baseline Level 1,3
    Video: CBR-1pass, 30fps, 347kbps, 364x272
    Audio: AAC-LC, stereo 128k, 44khz, 16bps)
I tried so much settings in video and/or audio without succes than I started to think that I'm too stupid to understand what's going on! I'm absolutely following the medias specs on https://developer.blackberry.com/devzone/develop/supported_media/bb10_media_support.html
In an IOS situation, I push the code like: http://10.10.10.200/campus.isml/manifest(format=m3u8-aapl).m3u8 where (format=m3u8-aapl).m3u8 is especially the part that an idevice recognizes. I removed this part, remove only the (.) content, removed the manifest word, removed all and so on. Never been able to got a single image or a sound.
Is there an option like (format=somethingelse) that I need to type somewhere? Please don't answer me to google it, I already asked 100 times to google and read tons of pages and I know it's very annoying for expert if the question was answered somewhere else (which I didn't found...) but I needs a hint.
    Thank you!

    Hi, everything in the "Quick Reference" section should be commented out with ;
You should change those settings further down in the php.ini file.
    Example:
    error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
    display_errors = Off

  • Expressions Encoder footage causing lag in PPro

I've been putting together a recorded version of a webinar for about a year now, mixing my own HDSLR footage and digital audio via H4N with the screencapture of the webinar. It's been fine in editing except the quality of the screencapture was pretty bad, so we first tried Camtasia, and then moved to Expressions Encoder. Since that move, all screencapture footage I get from the broadcaster who records with Expressions Encoder causes Premiere Pro major lag. In the PPro timeline I'll lay the HDSLR footage on one video track, and the Expressions Encoder footage in another track, and when both are toggled Visible, major lag occurs. As soon as I toggle off the Expresssions footage track, no more lag.
The HDSLR footar is always recorded at 30p, and they are now recording the Expressions Screencapture at 30p, and then export to 30fps, 20fps, 10fps, 8fps, etc., and between 720 and 1080, and various encodes between mp4 and wmv, but they always lag out PPro.
What I've been doing is dropping the Expressions Encoder footage into its own timeline, spending 2 hours to export it into an mov file, and then dropping that mov into my timeline, and that seems to work fine.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on with Expressions Encoder footage in PPro? Would love to not have to take the extra multi-hour step of re-encoding the EE footage.

  • CS 6 install effecting Expressions Encoder

    Hi,
Sorry this might be a little off topic for this forum, but I'm on a Windows 7 SP1 PC and have just installed CS6.  I use Microsoft Expressions Encoder to make all my .wmv files and it's always worked fine, but after the CS 6 install when I try to load a Quicktime(uncompressed, h.264, dnxhd, etc.) into Expression Encoder the file has a green tint to it like it's missing the red/blue channels of the file(see attached image.  Also if I try to use Adobe Media encoder with a quicktime to create a .wmv I don't have any encode settings available to.  Is there some issue with the Windows Me)dia codec and Adobe CS 6 right now?  I can't find any threads on it, but is a huge issue for me as many clients require me to make .wmv.  Any clues to what conflict might be going on here?  I'm running Windows Media Player 12 and Expressions 4.0.4 free version.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Thanks for the response Dima.  So after digging a little deeper I've found there is a settings tab in Expressions Encoder (Tools>options>Compatibility) that shows all the codec plugin on your system.  You can enable/disenable as you please.  I have a list of "quicktime.qts" files.  When I disable all the "YUV settings" and leave the RGB options enabled EE sees the files just fine and encodes properly, but this has lead me to a new problem.
My source files are DNxHD 220 .MOV set to RGB space exported from a timeline in Avid DS which is working in YUV space.  Quicktime plays these files back fine, I open them in PP 6 and they playback and look fine, but when I got to export a .wmv the exported file appears with the green tint I've explained.  So it seems to be a RGB>YUV conversion issued, but I'm not sure which software is causing it.  I can send you a sample .wmv export from PP 6 and a sample of my source material as well if that would help.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Error message while trying to encode a video with afterFX composition involved

OK, so heres the thing.  I wanna encode this video I made, in CS3, but every time I try, it says,
"the source and output color space are not compatible or a conversion does not exist"
This only happened after I tried adding an After Effects composition to the mix.
The After Effects comp is nothing more than a high res JPG spinning, which I made in illustrator and exported as a JPG (obviously).
I searched around the internet for this error and the help menu but cannot find anything that even comes close.  The videos in the Premiere project are YUV 422 10-bit CCIR 601 non-compressed.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    it doesnt solve the issue
Maybe not.  But it will get the job done, which is the higher goal here, no?

  • Best setting for encoding flv video?

What is the best, most universally accepted setting for encoding flv videos to be viewed over cable modem access?
    Best,

    Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers
    www.ghfc.com

    I completely understand.
For print work, I did a lot of that with either Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy in Photoshop. Then, they added Layer Comps, and that cut down on the work, but allowed me to have several "treatments."
Have not used that in PrPro though. I see the usefulness of the feature though.
Yeah, clients are fond of saying, "really appreciate you following all of my ideas, but I think I like what you had last week better... Can we go with it, but with these few extra changes?" Happens all too frequently. Lot easier now, than back in the old days, when one painted the cyc, set up the shot, and lit it, only to have the AD change the color of the cyc. When done, they'd often say, "liked that original color better. Let's tear it all down and re-paint to that." Now, I just change the color of the background digitally - a lot less painting!!!"
    Thanks for that tip,

  • Encoder Audio/Video Not Matching Up

I am trying to encode a 1 hour MPEG2 video file to FLV. I
have used different computers (upgrade to faster processor, 1GB
ram, but this was on a completely separate machine from previous
attempts) and different MPEG2 codecs. Every time I encode a video
the audio and video tracks do not line up. They are about 3-5
seconds away from each other. I have verified that the original
    file is correct. Please advise.

Their problem is they have video at 48 kHz and audio at 44.1 kHz<<</div>
Ummm No. Video isn't measured in audio sampling rates. You probably captured video with the preset for DV NTSC 48khz (the 48khz is the audio portion). But your audio was either recorded incorrectly or from another source (CD audio perhaps?).
Use QT Pro to export the 44.1khz audio to 48 khz and import into your project - OR - use SoundTrack Pro to resample at 48khz.

  • Adobe Media Encoder (Pr CS4) encodes my videos without the effects of the plugins Genarts Sapp

    Hello,
My Adobe Media Encoder (Premiere CS4) encodes my videos without the effects of the plugins Genarts Sapphire. I did not have this problem with CS2 and also he encodes all other plugins.
Do you know why? I really need to solve this serious issue.
    Any help will be apprecieted,

OK, good. Go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0 and look for two files called "Plugin Loading.log" and "Headless Plugin Loading.log" (without the quotes). These are just text documents, so open them up in Notepad or similar and compare the two; what you're looking for are references to your Sapphire plugins. What you'll probably find is that in "Plugin Loading.log", the plugins are loaded successfully--it will say something like "The plugin was successfully loaded from the registry."--whereas in "Headless Plugin Loading.log" the same plugin will be marked "The plugin is marked as Ignore, so it will not be loaded."
If you see that, let me know and I'll try to walk you through the steps of correcting it. If you like, I'd be happy to look at the log files; attach them to a reply here (they're small documents).

  • Bug when encoding f4v videos longer than ~ 1 hour ?

    Folks,
We're getting a strange problem with Adobe Media Encoder.
We encode a long (slightly more than 1 hour) f4v video
and Adobe Media Encoder reports that the file encoded
successfully with no errors. But when we scrub through
the video (i.e., move the play head from start to finish),
the video hangs early in the video.
The source video in original H.264 Quicktime format
works perfectly and is known to be OK. We have plenty
of disk space and memory, so that is not an issue.
We do not have this problem when encoding shorter f4v videos
(even slightly less than 1 hour). Does Adobe Media Encoder
have a bug when encoding f4v videos longer than about 1 hour?
    Is there a workaround?
    Thanks in advance,
    Raja.

You can remove them from the iMovie timeline and replace(?) I believe iMovie plays the full quality video (there is an option on how iMovie previews the clips) but doesn't FCE play a lower resolution version? If you are not using the Highest Quality version in iMovie, what happens when the project is exported to Quicktime or iDVD? Does the video still studder?

  • Encoding live video for the Wii?

I notice that FME and FMLE only allow VP6 and H264 as the
    video encoding options.
I understand that the Nintendo Wii, with its Opera browser,
can play back Flash Video that is in the Sorenson Spark codec. Is
it therefore possible to encode LIVE video using Sorenson Spark
that could be played back in the Flash player on the Wii?
Or, is it the case that the version of Flash that the Wii
supports will only playback pre-recorded Sorenson Spark video and
    not live streams?
    Thanks,
    D.

When live streaming was first introduced with FCS you would
utilize a web based encoder that utilized the spark codec and had
the same look and feel as the current desktop based software. This
was available from CDN's but could be built within flash as well. I
found a simple one which will achieve connect and publish to a
    server for you.

This one is simple but others do exist which allow setting
    framerates, video source, etc.

  • Chose "encode selected video files" to create apple pro res, but only gave me audio. now files are gone.

Hello, I chose the "encode selected video files" from the finder to convert some H.264 files to Apple ProRes. It outputed only audio (but still as a .mov file). And I also selected to delete the source files after finished, so now the originals are gone and i'm left with only audio. is there any way to get back my original files?

Sounds like you selected Audio Only
If you regularly back up your system, you could locate the copy of the original file and restore it .

  • Replacing an audio track without re-encoding the video

I'm new to Audition CC so apologies for the basic question. I originally asked this in the Premiere Pro forum but I think it's more an Audition question..  I have AVCHD home video (MTS video with AC3 stereo audio) and have found I can clean up the audio, for example in speeches, very well in Audition. Is there a way to just replace the MTS's orginal audio track without re-encoding the video (which it seems I have to, if I do this via Premiere Pro)? In some cases the videos are poorly lit and any re-encoding makes them look noticeably worse than the original. In any event the video does not need re-encoding, I just need to replace the audio. Maybe I need to export the cleaned-up audio from Audition and use some other program to replace the audio in the original MTS file? Is that called re-muxing?  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks Bob and Ryclark.
Bob, our aim is to copy these videos onto USB sticks, for our family to watch on our various home TVs, from a media player such as WD Home TV, a media PC or a laptop via HDMI cable. I expect the original MTS files, with cleaned up audio, will be fine. Media Info shows these to be video: AVC format, variable bit rate, 16.0 max bit rate, 1920x1080 pixels, 25.000 fps, 8 bit, interlaced; audio: AC3 format, 256 Kbps bit rate, 2 channels, 48.0 KHz sampling rate, 16 bits bit depth. I'm keen to avoid re-encoding the video, and it seems I can. My initial test worked and tonight (I'm in Australia) I'll test further... I can edit the AC3 audio in Audition, export it as a new AC3 with the same format as original, then use some other non-Adobe program to replace the original audio track with the new one, without touching the video.
Ryclark, I believe you are right. My novice-level understanding is that the process of separating the components of a video file such as my MTS file (video, audio and possibly others) into separate files is 'de-muxing' and putting them back together is re-muxing. Audition can save or export the original or edited audio track of my MTS file to a separate file so I assume that's like a specific audio de-mux. However I don't think Adobe products can re-mux without re-encoding the video (slow, larger resulting file size, worse video quality!), so I need some other program to replace my MTS file's audio with the new/edited audio.
So far I've found the free-ware Avidemux can do it but past experience is that free-ware can be a bit flaky or over time not as bullet-proof as a good/proven commercial product, so I'll look a bit further - or does someone in this forum know of such a product? HD Video Converter seems to be an option but it looks a bit amateurish.
By the way, if anyone is after a cut/join program to remove unwanted parts of a video without re-encoding the whole thing (ie. fast, same file size and unchanged video quality) I found Avidemux (free) only works on whole frames (GOP?) and the joins can have a little 'flick', whereas for $40-$50 a program like Fame Ring Smart Cutter for MTS videos (the Sony vidcam home video files I'm interested in) is frame accurate (it only re-encodes around the cut points) and works very well (smooth cut/join points). Smart Cutter doesn't do AVI videos (for my PC screen-recording videos) but I found SolveigMM Video Splitter Home Edition works well with those (not so well with my MTS files).
