Exs problems. Audio files sound strange when spread across keyboard

I just bought a sample pack from the fantom g series and started to import the sounds. When I played them they sounded good in two octaves, but when i ventured farther than that on either side the sound became .. . . well , different. I guess the pitch was changing, but when i went low it sounded like there was a deep filter on it and coming from the depts of ****. On the high side, It sounded very xiolophony ( this is the acoustic grand piano 1 btw ) This would happen if fruity loops too. I set the range to max but it sounds way different if you were playing the fantom, or any instrument for that matter. Is this just " the way it goes " as far as sampling on the exs? or am i missing something.
Thank you,

I think you should ask this question to the manufacturer of that sample pack.
It is certainly NOT a limitation of the EXS24. For instance, any seriously sampled piano will cover the full eight octaves, each key sampled on multiple velocity levels, and EXS24 will not limit that in any way, in fact, its range is C-2 up to G8, 10 and-a-fifth octaves. So it is the manufacturer (Roland?) that built the instrument that has limited the range of 'm, for whatever reason.

  • After opened test wav file on my audition CS6, audio file looks strange.

    Hello,
Now I'm using Audition CS6 while other my colleges are using CS3.
Even I checked the audio test file is well opened and played on CS3 with 26s total length, but on my CS6 this test file is reduced to 13s(half) and sound is heared faster twice.
As for normal wav. file works well, but it's happened my test wav. file. I think there is automatically converted when opening the file. Converting has some problems on my CS6.
    Thanks,
    Alvin

This sounds like an incorrect setting somewhere in the system for the Sample Rate. Could be to do with some settings for your local computer's audio hardware. Alternatively problems opening files a correct sample rate can sometimes be down to problems with the information stored in the .wav file header telling the software what the sample rate should be. What format, bit depth and sample rate id the Test file stored as?

  • EXS instrument audio file content

So, I have recently gone about updating my sample library and now have a lot (hundred or so) of new good sampler instruments. However, it is a bit overwhelming and now I have so many good sounds, but it seems difficult to locate the samples in all the instruments. I know that the best way to do this is to organize them very detailed in folder hierarchies in the exs menu.
The only thing is that when I go through the hard drive and attempt to sort through them the names of the instrument are not always named the same (or even similar) to what audio files that make up that instrument. Is there some way to easily figure out what samples are in a particular exs instrument? Or is the only way to go about it by actually opening each instrument and auditioning the samples in the exs?

    > see if the patch works under 7.1.1
It won't work — unless you install the jam pack #1 (or #2): as I said above, the sample file is missing from the 7.1 distribution DVD, and that mistake was corrected in the 7.2 release.
Besides, this sample is of no particular interest, and could easily be reproduced with Logic's most rudimentary audio instrument plug-in (you name it). It's certainly not what Yellow Tools have done the best...
Moreover, it's not even properly looped, so there's an audible click each second or so.
Bottom-line: don't bother — forget that patch and go back to making music.

  • Audio files sound wobbly in my 7.1.6

    Anyone else experience this --
My audio files (aac,mp3) are sounding a bit "off" when played in Quicktime Pro 7.1.6 They sound ever-so-slightly wobbly, with some faint clicking here and there. The same songs when played in my Itunes (up to date) on same computer sound absoultely fine.
    Any reports of this? Remedies?

okay. i don't usually associate Norton with this sort
of thing (i associate it many other iTunes
issues, but not with this one.)
let us know if disabling Norton helps ... if not,
we'll try working through some other possibilities.
    Hi,
Disabling the Norton did not help, however I found another solution. I ended up deleting the new iTunes and installing the older, but latest of version 6 which I remember having worked well and viola... success! It works great! Thanks again for you help and time b noir. Nice to have the player working again.

  • Audio file not playing when previewed or pulised on only one slide

I have one slide that the audio will not play unless the you click on the play button in preview or when published.  All other slide audios are working fine and will play automtically when the next button is clicked on the previous slide.  I have tried changing the name of the audio file, deleting the sled and the fiel and staring over etc.  the audio file were created in another program and then brought into Captivate but thia has not been a problem with any other production up to this point.  Any suggestions?

I'm running logic pro 8.0.2 on Leopard 10.5.8. I've recorded an evening of live music, then cut the recording into songs using one audio file folder ad multiple song files. When working on an individual song, I can't access the sampler.  I get the message "nothing to display" or "no region or audio file selected"  After much research on the web, I believe this is a permanent bug.  Does anyone have a good work-around for this type of work.  We record live 16T band rehearsals constantly and would love to be able to break individual songs out of the large file and be able to use the sampler.  Thanks in advance for your ideas!  Cheers.

Another thing - if I copy one of the tracks to another track, then the sample editor works on the copied track.  I don't want to have to copy 16 tracks to new tracks to be able to use the sample editor on a project.  Thanks again.

  • EXS 24 audio files missing from G4 to mac Pro. Export solves, but why?

Hi. I recently upgraded from G4 DP to Mac Pro (huge jump). While some of my sample libraries work straight away...others do not, claiming "file not found" when I know they're there.
A cure that works is to go back to the G4, load the files into EXS24 there, export them to my external drive and then run the mac pro off this. The "export" seems to be the critical step and seems to re-create the apparently missing audio files.
It's very slow as can only do one at a time. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?
    All thoughts welcome
    Jonathan

I have this too and I haven't been able to find any info on the net about this.
I have no audio transitions or effects at all.  Would love to find out how to fix this.

  • Audio file sounds like Donald Duck on helium

I made a jingle in GarageBand. Then I dictated an audio file on my iPod with iTalk which hot-synced into iTunes. I then dragged the dictated audio file from iTunes to GB to try to mix the jingle and the audio together, but after my audio file is imported, it runs way too fast. I looked here for an answer: http://thehangtime.com/gb/gbfaq2.html#toofast - but it didn't work.
What do I do? GB 2.0.1 iTunes 4.9 iPod 4th gen.
    TIA
    JV

    Try this:
    1. Download Sound Studio at this link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/soundstudio.html
    2. Once you've installed it, open the program, and under the FILE menu select IMPORT WITH QUICKTIME to load your vocal audio file.
    3. Once it has loaded properly, pull down the FILE menu and select SAVE AS
    4. Rename the file, and under the FORMAT pull-down menu, select WINDOWS WAVE
    5. Take the file from your desktop and drag it into Garageband. This should eliminate the "sped-up" effect and it should play at normal speed and pitch.
Let me know if that works.

  • Activate audio file to play when patch selected.

How do I get an audio file that is loaded into a channel strip and the playback window,,,
    to ACTUALLY PLAY, when selected?
    Please help, Thank you

Do you mean play when you select the patch? If so, select the Action menu (top right of waveform display), then select "Start on Patch Change."

  • How to add audio file to iTunes when iMatch is on.

I subscribe to iMatch but have found that certain audio files (talks) are ineligible for cloud storage.  I want to add these files to my device but on earlier versions of iTunes I wasn't able to add the files unless iMatch was turned off.  Now I don't seem to be able to add them at all.  Any ideas?
    Kirstenfromseattle

To be mirrored in the cloud audio files must meet certain requirements. They must be at least 96Kbps and less than 200 MBs in size. Most "audio files" of the kind you describe are less than 96 Kbps so are ineligible to me uploaded to the iTunes Match cloud. You'll need to make the Media Kind something other than Music (which they shouldn't be anyway, since they are not music files) like Podcast. Then you will be able to sync the tracks to your iOS device via USB/Thunderbolt.
You can use an OS X app such as Subler to set the Media Kind before you add the file to the iTunes library.

  • Problems capturing the sound layer when importing m2ts files

Hi all, I'm new to the whole video editing side of things and so would appreciate some help.
I've just acquired a Canon HF200 HD camcorder, and a Sony Vaio notebook which came with Premiere Elements 7.0 pre-installed.
For the last month I've been shooting footage, and just getting down to trying to edit everything and put a DVD together.
The problem I have at the moment (and I've just started using the program, so everything is new to me) is that while I seem to be able to import the m2ts file format in which my camera records, only the video is imported into Premiere - not the audio (it reads the file ok, and no errors appear, but when I go to review the footage there is video but no sound).
I can play all my videos in Windows Media Player just fine, with both video and audio.  So it seems my machine is able to read the files correctly in this program.  However, the audio seems to drop out when I import the file into Premiere.  The program was pre-installed in my machine, and when I go in to have a look at the audio settings, there doesn't seem to be an ability to change the settings to something different.
So far I've spent a long time googling and trying to find a solution, but with no joy just yet.
Appreciate any assistance the anyone can offer.  Is there just a simple setting that I need to change?  Or do I need to somehow convert the files into another format before Elements 7.0 can read them?
    Thanks.
    Jeff

the machine I have seems to comply with the specs required by PE7 (and given that it came with PE7 pre-installed that should be the case).
There are two things to consider:
1.) editing most footage, especially SD material
2.) editing AVCHD, currently the most demanding of all common video formats to edit. This is what you have.
Now, when you launch PrE, you get a splash screen. There you can Open New (create a new Project), Open an existing Project that has been opened recently, or Open a Project by navigating to it. One can also Exit.
In your case, you will go to New and when that dialog box opens, choose the Preset for AVCHD w/ DD 5.1 SS Audio.
Also note, that when in the Edit Mode, there are two View Modes (accessed via two icons to the left of the lower Panel), Timeline View Mode and Sceneline View Mode. For DD 5.1 SS Audio Clips, you will find Timeline View Mode to be the best. Now, you can switch back and forth, but Timeline View Mode will give you infinite control. It is the view that most editing programs use, and that most editors use.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I strongly recommend Steve Grisetti's book, The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7.

  • Problem deleting files that vanish when I click on them

    Hi there,
I've got a dozen or so files scattered around my hard drive that behave in a peculiar way. When I click on them they vanish, but when the system is rebooted they are back in place. They appear to be empty or rogue files. Trying to use Get Info on them also makes them vanish. When I choose them using Cocktail's "delete locked or inaccessible item" it won't select the file, and just hangs. When I try and right click and chose "move to trash" I get the error message: "The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (error code -36).
Anyone know how I can get rid of these pesky files?
    Thanks
    J

Hi Jonathan, sounds like some corruption...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Reporting quiz score when spread across separate lessons? cp8

    Hi,
I have 7 lessons in my course. The LMS does NOT support a mastery roll-up score like the originally indicated they did. They cannot be combined in to one lesson. They are large.
So each has a portion of the quiz (no, they cannot be all placed in one lesson, they have to be separate). What I'd like to do is gather the scores of all 7 parts and tally them in to one final score to report to the LMS. As I see it, Captivate does not support this. I spotted CPGuru's Save & Load data widget. This looks like it will really help out. I think using this I can save each partial score and then in the final lesson tally them all up. The problem now becomes how do I report that score to the LMS as THE final quiz score result? I don't see a way to modify the quiz variables.
    Ideas? Another widget out there?
    Thanks!

    CP8, Windows 8.1, publishing SWF.

That is really a strange LMS you are using: no gradebook or something similar at all? What you are asking for is typical a functionality of (most) LMS's.
Quizzing system variables are read-only, you cannot change them at all. Although you could transfer the results of the different quizzes to the 'master' project, how will you transfer them to the quizzing system variables. Only those define what will be put in the SCORM reporting. For a different goal, reporting custom questions, I have been looking for ways to get results into the quizzing system variables, but for a use case like yours I only see Javascripting as a solution or the use of the Mastery widget by Infosemantics (SWF-output only). Summarizing the resulting scores into a user variable is pretty simple, but not transferring it to the quizzing system variable. Only scores attached to question slides, or to interactive objects are included in those system variables. Have a look at my workaround for a much simpler use case for one custom question, maybe you'll understand the problem better:

I have no blog post about the solution with JS, sorry.

  • Skipped audio files when burning disc in iDVD.

I burned a DVD using iDVD version 7.0. The audio files sound perfect on the computer but on the disc there are skipped areas noted in three different audio files. I did try different discs and burned discs on both my laptop and my desktop. I have used this program before but never encountered this problem.  Any tips? Thanks

    Hi
    My notes on this.
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it
