Exs Problems

Hi
I have a problem since upgrading my computer and moving to logic 9 where my exs instrument cant find the samples when they are clearly on my external drive ( I can hear them when i search and preview). I tried redmatica exs manger which worked to an extent but when i load the sampler instruments they all cut off after about 1 second. When I re-copied the sampler instruments into the logic folder it stopped doing this for some samples but then lost others. I seem to be going round in circles trying to get back to where i was.
Any help would be great

Hey Colin
I mananged to figure out a solution that works (tedious as it is). I copied all my samples to an internal drive so they are all in 1 place. I ran exs manager (which does link to the samples). The problem i was having is that when i load the instruments the samples stop playing after about a second almost as if it was a demo version of exs manager and therefore wouldn't let me play the full sample. I don't think it was that but anyway, the solution to was to remove the sampler instruments and re-copy them to my logic folder after i had run exs manager. It worked well and i'm now back up and running and on to my next problem.....

  • Reinstall logic-serious exs problems

    Hi everybody,
after having upgraded from Logic´s Big Box to Pro 7.1 I finally ran into serious problems with exs: samples can´t be located, the projectmanager fails to restore the paths, sampler instruments changed, etc., and finally I decided to reinstall logic again. But: do I have to start with 5.5 (Big Box), then 6 (Logic express), then 7? Changing dongles and everything?
Is there an easier solution? (For example having Apple sending me a single 7.1. DVD?). It´s just the problem with exs and the samples, but reinstalling just the content DVD doe not help.

No. Sample Instruments and files for Logic 7 are in the Library/Application Support folder (either the user or the system level). If you need your samples (and IR's) from Logic 6 then don't get rid of them. Mind you, I don't know if Logic 7 sees Logic 6's instruments where they are. I know they see 6's IR's.

  • Exs problems. Audio files sound strange when spread across keyboard

I just bought a sample pack from the fantom g series and started to import the sounds. When I played them they sounded good in two octaves, but when i ventured farther than that on either side the sound became .. . . well , different. I guess the pitch was changing, but when i went low it sounded like there was a deep filter on it and coming from the depts of ****. On the high side, It sounded very xiolophony ( this is the acoustic grand piano 1 btw ) This would happen if fruity loops too. I set the range to max but it sounds way different if you were playing the fantom, or any instrument for that matter. Is this just " the way it goes " as far as sampling on the exs? or am i missing something.
    Thank you,

I think you should ask this question to the manufacturer of that sample pack.
It is certainly NOT a limitation of the EXS24. For instance, any seriously sampled piano will cover the full eight octaves, each key sampled on multiple velocity levels, and EXS24 will not limit that in any way, in fact, its range is C-2 up to G8, 10 and-a-fifth octaves. So it is the manufacturer (Roland?) that built the instrument that has limited the range of 'm, for whatever reason.

  • Logic crashes when opening song with EXS instrument

I'm having problem opening a L7 song that contains and EXS instrument. Can't get song open before logic crashes.
The song loads except for the exs file (stock sample in default library). "Loading audio files" for the EXS gets to the last wav file of the patch then stops, the command-period to cancel doesn't work. Logic freezes and L7 "not responding" and have to force quit. Ironically, this EXS patch works in a new song when loaded.
I think i have tried everything with project manager scans and prefs: rescanned project manager, removed the scans, changed all the project manager pref settings ("search using pm database only", unselected "pm on program launch", etc)
Its not just this song but backups / previous versions. Trashed logic preferences, etc but no change. This song also uses ewqlso (loads fine) but i have reduced the buffer on that and there should not be any memory problems.
    Thanks for your help.
    Michael

Finally I got the free time to explin wht happened. Well, here is what happened to this particular corrupted song. I have heard rumours abound about OSX updates and EWQLxx but i have absolutely no proof of this just like I originally thought this was an EXS problem.
Anyways, I found a solution - With core audio disabled I emptied logic trash via key command, but did NOT reorganize song memory. That was the kicker for some strange reason.
So I think I figured out what some already know here but trying the three combinations (trash only, reorg only, or both together) may help solve similar issues.
Good luck, this one really blows under a tight deadline.

  • "Warning! Not Enough Memory!" A bug in Logic 7.1?

    Hello,
I seem to have discovered a bug in my Logic 7.1, and would like to see if this is a system specific bug, or a bug in everyones Logic. It seems to occur in the Matrix editor which results in the error ""Warning! Not enough memory! This operation cannot be undone" and follows with the mysterious deletion of random parts, and totally corrupts the file, preventing me from doing any further MIDI edits or even undo the mysterious deleated parts!
Here is how I discovered it. I selected two separate audio instrument tracks (violin and viola) and opened them in the matrix editor. To see both parts at once, I double clicked on the background, resulting in viewing all possible MIDI parts. I then selected from the "show selected regions only" from the view menu to isolate the violin and viola parts. I then copied some notes from the violin part and then double clicked on the viola part and attempted to paste the violin information I copied to the viola part. However, the information would not paste for some reason, so I decided to simply draw in the new notes, and BAM, the error message "Warning! Not enough memory" occurs.
I have been able to replicate this error on my own system on a few occasions, but it doesn't always seem to happen which is strange. I may be able to get around it by making sure I double click and isolate the part I want to copy first, before isolating where I want to copy it to, however I need to test this idea out more often to make sure. In the mean time I have tried "reorganizing memory" in logic, repairing permissions and running all maintenance scripts, Re-installed the OS 10.3.9 update (just incase something didn't install correctly), ran apple "hardware test" in which everything passed, and trashed and rebuild my preferences, and I'm still able to create this error.
I do feel something is wrong here, I was wondering if anyone may be willing to try to duplicate this on their system, just so I can be sure there is a Logic bug, or maybe there is something wrong with my personal setup. (MANY weird things have been happening lately, such as corrupted key commands in my preference files).
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for your comments Rohan. The reason this post was relatively clear headed is because I already went through my "freak out" process earlier that week! But thanks for your comments. I did try to make this post as clear as possible, in the hopes that others could potentially get the same "buggy" results. I guess the problem seems to stem from something bigger then how I arrived at it, but from what I've found researching it, the matrix editor does seem to play a consistent part.
Maybe we should send a quick note to apple, asking them to keep an eye out for this bug?
In answer to your specific questions, the size of my file before the error was 468KB, and the file after I saved the error is 544KB. Not a big enough difference to raise flags, as the error file does contain a few more seconds of music, some different parts, etc. The song itself is only 32 bars long @ 103bpm, and the total bars is set to 266. At the current tempo, the song would end at around 7min, much shorter then an hour. For the record, I have done many longer, more memory and CPU intensive pieces and experienced no such problems (except for the need to freeze a few tracks). For example, I recently scored a film that was heavy in Atmosphere, VSL, and Stormdrum, and ran an uncompressed film file and no problem. Now that I think of it, perhaps it could be an EXS problem even? For those who have experienced this error, were you editing a EXS part?
As for the Key commands problem, I will have to do more research and testing once I upgrade my system. I dont mind loosing my current key commands and preferences and starting again. In fact, I think I can do a better job customizing Logic now that I have a better idea of what it can do. However, if this seems to be a consistent problem, then I may not do too much customizing yet
Thanks again for the post Rohan. I hope everything runs soother in Tiger after a clean install. Any quick tips for optimal Tiger setups?

  • EXS Sampler Problems any one Help Help Help

I Have recently been having loads of problems with my sampler instruments. When I click on some of them they take a while to load I have used the Project Manager in Logic Pro 7.1.1 to scan and that used to work but now no matter what I do in it whether doing an expanded scan or a selected scan or designated selected paths to scan it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have trashed the PM Prefs even the Logic Prefs even trashed logic and put on a fresh install.
I recently in a desperate bid downloaded the demo of EXs Manager from Redmatica to re link my samples with the EXS interments after doing a little song and dance it came back with a great marketing ploy of having scanned so many instrument's it realised that I had more samples than the demo could handle to re-link the whole lot would need the full version which I will need to get at some point just to see whether it can do what it proclaims on the box.
I am getting an error message when trying to load a few samples which reads 'Logical end-of -file reached during read operation Result code=-39'
Can anyone tell me what this means

I haven't had that problem, but my gut is telling me you have a bad drive or corrupt data on that drive. I'd run disk repair, and then if that passes run Disk Warrior or something like it to verify your data.
EXS Manager works great, but it doesn't make samples load faster in my experience. EXS manager is more file management than anything...helps weed out unused samples and tidy up the organization.

  • Problem with the release trigger in EXS 24

    Hello!
I´m working on a sample instrument in EXS 24 and can´t really get the release trigger to work properly. I´ve tried to adress a sample to sound when i release the key, by placing the sample in a group for itself and choosing the "key release" option for that group in the trigger menu in the group editing window. The problem is that the sample is not played.
    Any ideas?

    Hi there,
I remember running into this problem myself a while back and I can't remember what the solution was. I found this answer on another forum which i thought might help. I think this was the solution, although I haven't tried it (before posting this).
Another use would be to sample a brass instrument and loop a section, then triggerthe very end of the note.
To do this, in the EXS editor select group then make sure View>Group Voices is enabled. Her you can set the trigger for a sample to be Key release rather than the normal Key Down. You can now use vel range to assign that group of samples to play at whatever the release velocity is, ie how quickly you let go of the key. (I think - someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that, it's a long time since I did this in EXS)
    I hope that helps.
    Best
    Felix

  • EXS white nois Problem

does any one know why all of a sudden the exs sampler is making white noise as opposed to playing back my samples. when I go to the edit page of the sampler I click on the editor and up comes the wave form of my sample file when I play it from within the sampler I don't get a problem but as soon as I use my keyboard to trigger it I get white noise. My sampler never used to do this can anyone in sample Land help

Can't answer your question tim, sorry, but have an additional question sort of on the same track. I have an Akai S5000 which I have been using for years as part of my live setup. In the band I play in we don't use sample CD's and all the stuff playing from the Akai are from original samples, the programs all put together in the Akai.
As such it is easy to get the raw wav's onto the computer but all the magic is done in the Akai program (layering, velocity switching etc, etc) and although EXS will see all this from an Akai CD, is there a way I can make EXS recognise the Akai programs from the Akai HD or the Mac HD (cuz it's easy to put it all accross, just can't make EXS see it unless it thinks it's coming off of an Akai CD). I have hundreds of these so the thought of having to convert them manually once the wavs are in the mac and in EXS is frightning.....
Or am I just being an idiot and missed something really obvious......

  • EXS 24 problem

I just decided to upgrade to the latest OS/ProApp Support, as I got several friends that did that and had no problems, other than a few AU's not validating. Wish I was that lucky!
So I downloaded the Combo Updater and did it. ARGH!
Now my EXS 24 takes forever to load instruments. Sometimes I will give me an error that a specifik sample is missing. When I look in my sample folder it's there, and always worked before. I can even play back the sample in QT.
GarageBand instruments won't load anymore - it will just chew on it forever, meaning hours.
I have a couple of large strings libs - and I let the EXS work on a string sample for about 2,5 hours - then it was up and running ( this used to take seconds ) and now it will load that particular sound as it should, but everything else takes hours.
I tried to do an extended scan in the Project Manager, it located over 300.000 'new files', but - that didn't help any.
I Zapped the P-ram, repaired permissions and trashed the Prefs - still same BS.
I am at my wits end!
    Any ideas greatly appreciated!
This is the last time I'll EVER upgrade the OS when I have a smooth system going - I haven't noticed any improvements over 10.8 that was running so great, so this is definately a huge waste of energy.
    -Kim

Page 431: "Find Unresolved files for Selected Instruments"
(BTW The Project Manager section in the manual is confusing and really badly written, imo.)
In fact in 7.2 the name has changed again to: "Find unresolved file references for selected items".
Forgive me if I can't remember offhand to accurately transcribe the name of this function from memory, so I resort to reffering it as the "resolve missing instruments" function. This might be a bit misleading, but I figure most people will find it in the menus anyway.
In any case, select an EXS file, and it will display the sample references contained within. MIssing samples (ie samples not in the specified location) will be shown in red.
Once you perform the "Find unresolved..." blah blah function, Logic searches for the samples until it finds their location (which if you've done an expanded scan, it probably already knows where they are) and rewrites the new location back to the EXS instrument - so it will load quickly next time.
You can do this for multiple instruments, or whole directories etc of instruments at once, but it can be a slow process. Redmatica's EXS Manager is faster.
In any case, you've got all the info you need in this thread - if you still don't understand this function, then I'm not sure I can explain it any better/differently.

  • EXS / Logic missing files problem

One of my projects has missing exs files. I mean, when I open the project, it can't find some sample files. I opened EXS24 for some tracks and I see "MISSING: picolo" or "MISSING: Harp" - these kind of messages. I also remember having an orchestral project option when creating a new project and a bunch of orchestral instrument tracks would get created. I don't see this anymore.
I installed Logic 3 times already. What is the problem?

Try deleting the iWeb preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist - and do a restart of your Mac.

  • Strange problems with EXS!!??

    Hello!
    I´m confused!
I loaded effect-sounds (aiff) from the CD to the Sample Folder.
Then I opened Logic and EXS.
I made a new Sample Instrument with those new sounds.
Everything went well and sounded good.
    I saved everything.
Then I closed Logic and opened it again.
I started to play with the new EXS instrument I had just made,
    and everything was VERY DISTORTED!
I tried lot of things and found out,
that if used any old sounds within the instrument,
    they would NOT DISTORT.
Did I do something wrong? What?
    Regards,

    Powerbook 1.67 G   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Logic 7.1.1

Actually, this is unusable, I can't do any work until I've sorted this. Anyone have any ideas? I depend on the EXS for triggering SFX samples, every so often, for no apparent reason a sample will corrupt. I can correct the problem by following the proceedure I mentioned in my previous post, but I have to remember to note not only the sample name, but any custom settings such as level, pitch, start point, etc. that I have altered first.
My system is only a couple of months old, I've only loaded Logic Pro and my Powercore plugins onto it, plus Audiofinder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • EXS 24 Sampler problems.

I have just loaded Logic X onto a 27 inch i7 imac and have 32 gig of ram.
I have always used homemade EXS 24 sample banks successfully on previous set ups Logic 8&9 - and have created new samples to use on the new supposedly more powerful Logic X using convert to sampler function.
Playing one track of these samples come out fine, however when I have two or more sampler tracks playing togther, I seem to get a sort of crunch noise every now and again - as if the CPU or Ram is overloading.
Does anyone have a solution for this please.
    Thank you !

    hi, again,
sound like you are trying to do everything at once!!!
even the beefiest macs will fold if you push this approach!!
render some of you're VI's to audio, or freeze them.
i have a very old machine but as long as i'm careful and PLAN everything, i have no trouble getting ~ 64- 96 stereo clips @ ~3min ea. running with fx at mixdown.
also, audio clips allow you too inspect the timing, groove of the song and tighten/loosen it to taste in an accurate repeatable fashion.

  • EXS instrument problems

    Hello there,
Ive been trying to load new instruments into the EXSP24 sampler on logic express, but the sampler isnt recognising them. I took the instrument files from a friends computer where they were working fine and burned them to cd, then dropped them into the sampler instruments folder in application support. Could it be that the files have come up as AIFF files and not .exs files?
    Any help would be great,
    Theo

    EXSP24 patches are composed by:
    1. Instruments
Those files contain the way the samples are mapped on the keyboard and all the sampler settings. They have as extension .exs and are located in two locations:
Logic preset are in /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
    User's ones are in ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
    2. Samples
Those are the audio files used inside the instruments.
Thay are located in: /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples
    User's ones are in: ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Samples
but this last can vary. If you import an AKAI disk this folder would be named AKAI Samples.
In any case, after adding new instruments open the instruments pull down menu in EXSP24 and choose "Refresh Menu".
    cheers

  • General problem with EXS Drums

    Hey Guys,
For the most part I have been satisfied with the midi library that comes with Logic. However, the drums are just really weak sounding - all of them. The 'acoustic drums' are obviously live samples, but they're so flat and dull. They lack presence. The only way I've been able to make any of the drums sound the way I want is to run them through a drumkit compressor and even through the Bass Amp simulator. When I do this the level shoots up into the red 6+. Although it sounds good at this level - I know I can't have it clipping like that. So when I back it down so its not clipping, it always returns to that flat, lifeless sound that I can't do anything with. How can I get the drum sounds I'm looking for? How do I get that beefy knocking bass drum and that clattering snare that I only seem to find in the red zone? Can anyone help.

Maybe what you want is a little distortion? I mean if you like it when it's clipping. Try some different guitar amps instead of the bass amp or the distortion effects. People that use Reason run just about everything through the Scream distortion, sometimes even entire mixes, just to 'liven' things up a bit.

  • The Problems With Logic (as I see them) - PART TWO!

    Hello again,
It seems to be a tradition now that as I compose on a track, I keep a text editor open so that I can jot down all the annoyances and problems that I encounter during my creative process... Anyone who missed the previous edition of this topic, please visit PART ONE, here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3605456#3605456
That said, here I give you "The Problems With Logic Part II":
    1. Logic should clear the playback buffer everytime you play. Quite often you start playing and there is trailing reverb/note events from various audio instruments and plug-ins.
    2. The sample edtor "save selection as" has no memory of where you previously were in the file browser.
    3. If you double click on a wave form, the sample editor opens up with the wave form you double clicked on... Great.. But now, if you go and double click on another wave form somewhere, it just takes you back to the sample editor with the same previous wave form selected (not great). This is incredibly annoying if you are attempting to save out certain edits-- Quite often you will end up saving 5 or 6 of the same exact waveform, thinking you were saving each individual one. GRR!
    4. Key commands.. if you try to assign a key command to something that is already used by another feature, you are presented with a window warning you that it already exists.. If you click cancel, then you can no longer enter any keys in the key field.. You are forced to close the key commands preferences window and start over.
    5. Key command window: You should be able to search by command.. For example, if I want to find out what "o" is assigned to, I should be able to search by O-- Further, you should be able to sort the key commands by clicking the column titles "key", "command" -- or "midi"... After all, we can sort by name, date, size, etc in the finder by clicking on these column titles.
    6. Tempo Tap feature-- I am quite confused by this. There should be a simple way to tap and define a tempo. When ever i try to do this, the tempo is only temporarily changed until I stop playing, and most of the time I get error alerts about trying to sync audio and midi (mind you, when there are absolutely no parts in the entire arrange window). The manual states that with "tempo recording" checked on the tempo interpreter window, that the taps will record tempo changes, but this does not work. I tried doing this, tapping the key command I defined to tempo tap (ctrl-shift-t), and I was tapping at various speeds-- many taps fast.. and Logic recorded tempos of 99-101bpm.. I was tapping atleast around 175-180bpm. I then tried tapping slowing, and Logic recorded tempos of 99-101 again... so this feature obviously is full of bugs.
    7. When loading songs, as soon as various plugins such as Kontakt, exs24 begin loading samples, it brings logic to the front. If you're working in the background in other applications while waiting for your songs to load, you are rudely interrupted from what you're doing (such as, selecting from a menu, typing a document, etc) only to be forced to watch a status bar fill up.. and then all key presses at that point become error beeps.
    8. Logic's sample memory easily becomes messed up and crazy. Quite often when using AU instruments such as BFD, Culture, and even Synthogy's Ivory. I will switch to that particular track to play on my keyboard, and each sample will be full of horrible pops and clicks-- the kind that destroy speakers. Other times, in a sample of a string for instance, all of a sudden after one second will be a pop and then the sample will be playing at a completely different pitch... I have to remove the AU instrument and reload it at this point.. This happens quite often. Logic should offer a 'buffer reset' so that you can just flash plugins but they reload whatever preset they were set to.
    9. Volume faders resolution are lame! There is no reason why you shouldnt be able to access +1.0, +1.1, +1.2, +1.3, +1.4, +1.5, +1.6, +1.7, +1.8, +1.9... Further the display is only so wide and you can't even read the decimal values for numbers -10 and lower. They just appear as 10.
    10. When a movie is open, and you are viewing the video output via FIREWIRE, there is a mini-floating window which contains the smpte, position, and movie start information-- However you cannot modify any of these values. You have to switch video output back to "WINDOW" to change the start position of the movie. This is obviously a bug.
    11. Changing the movie's start time is very user unfriendly. There should be a simple way to specify to start at a moment of time relative to SMPTE-- So you can just say "+9:15" for example, and it would take you in 9 minutes and 15 seconds, rather than how it is now where you have to think backwards from SMPTE code and subtract.
    12. You cannot view video as a window AND output to firewire. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do this. For example, if I wanted to output my video to a monitor in a vocal booth-- I can do this.. but I can't see what the vocalist is seeing on my own screen! This is just nonsense. You should be able to output to the screen (desktop mode or floating window) as well as an external firewire device.
    13. Saving a song with a movie open should mean that when you load that song, the movie should be up and exactly as it was prior to saving. As it is now you have to select "open movie again".
    14. There is still definitely a bug in track automation-- this was really bad back in version 4, but there is still something not quite right here where starting playback will not always guarantee that the automation data is being read.. And in my experiences it results in volumes being incorrect until you stop and play again, and in some cases it will not work at all unless you plot some automation points. This is an intermittent issue-- but quite often activated by placing an audio region from the audio window on a track (SEE VIDEO).
    WATCH VIDEO OF THIS BUG:
    http://collinatorstudios.com/www/logicbugs/logicautomationbug.mov
    15. In the arrange window, sometimes when zoomed in tightly, all parts on a track are selected, and you think that only the part that you are looking at is selected.. you move this part, and now all of your parts are off. Logic should have some kind of visual aid to let you know when ever you are moving multiple selections... Something like, the parts you are moving will highlight a dfferent color or something... This is a similar problem I have with the loop area of the screen.. You can accidentally turn it on when in the matrix window, and have no idea unless you look down at the transport, but with me for example, my transport is at the very bottom of the screen and I am not looking there most of the time.
    16. Automation data, when two points are semi-close to each other, suddenly the value of the data is no longer shown.. I can understand that when you are zoomed out, and there is simply no space for this to visually appear, that's appropriate. But as it is now, it doesn't display this information when there is plenty of space for it to be visible.
    17. Logic should let you set audio track inputs to the various outputs (1-2, 3-4, etc) and buses.
    18. clicking on a track selects ALL parts. This is so so so annoying. How many times have I been editing voice over, and selecting a track, thinking I am shrinking the length of a part, and to find that ALL parts have been shrunk.. SO ANNOYING!!!! This needs to not happen, and there should be a simple way to right-click a track and it will have an option "select all regions"... also, when you click on a track and all parts are selected, if you horizontally zoom, logic zooms into the beginning of the track, rather than the song locator. I don't know what the LOGIC behind this is, but it's not very helpful, it actually is very frustrating.. Zooming should always move towards the song locator position.
    19. EXS 24 should have a "reverse/backwards" button so that samples played are backwards.
    20. Logic should offer a way to globally increase or decrease a specific automation type (especially volume) globally for all tracks... So if you have detailed crescendos that start at -3.8 and end at +1.6, you can add 3db to this and it will now be at 0.8 and end at 4.6.
    21. If you have multiple tracks of the same track (such as three Audio track #1's)-- say you are recording guitar parts, and just copying the track and muting the previous track as a method of maintaining multiple takes for later auditioning. If you draw automation volume data on this track (it appears on all 3 tracks), and then if you delete the audio from one of the muted tracks and tell logic to KEEP it, suddenly all automation data is gone. GRR!!!
    22. Several times I have opened Kontakt, and attempted to load an instrument while outputting a movie via firewire video to my monitor. As soon as I try to load the instrument, the firewire video output on my monitor goes crazy, and then comes back on.. Logic then crashes. This has happened 3 times randomly...
    23. UNDO does not work on every function. for example, if you change an output to bus 1 instead of 1-2, you cannot undo this. Undo should undo whatever the last command was, no matter what it was. This is what the word LOGICal is supposed to represent.
    24. Floating windows (as in plugin windows) should close with apple-w!!!
    25. *BUG* If you are in a part that is say 10 measures long, zoom in horizontally 100% in the matrix window-- You then isolate one specific quarter note pitch in the middle of this measure, and have cycle turned on, looping over this one quarter note, if you are not looking at this note event/loop region when you hit play, the display will jump to the beginning of the part and never show you this note event as it loops. However if you have the note event on screen when you hit play, then it will behave properly. This makes it extremely difficult and frustrating to perform detailed hyper-draw work. (SEE VIDEO)

    26. *BUG* Host Automation is not accurate. I assigned Kontakt's tune knob to C#000, and If I place a dip, the knob begins to move way before the automation data is even present.... So basically what I was trying to do, can't even be accomplished because Logic screws everything up by pitching the instrument too early... Such a shame.. By the way, I previously mentioned the importance of being able to display part data in the arrange window as matrix data (horizontal lines) rather than score data. Someone argued what good this would do-- Well this is a perfect example, if I am attempting to affect a particular section of a note with automation, I can't possible visually see where this is because the length is not described by the current score representation. Having a horizontal representation would solve this problem... (SEE VIDEO)

    27. There should be a way to convert stereo samples to mono in the sample editor.
    28. When you view "as text" in the environmentt, you cannot drag an object to the arrange window-- Such as to create a bus track.. Now mind you I don't know why you can't just select "BUS" when editing a track in the arrange window in the first place, however there is no reason why 'view as text' should behave differently than when it's viewed as icons.
    29. When you drag a bus from the environment to the arrange window, it replaces whatever track was there. It should ADD a track instead of replace-- atleast there should be a preference for how this behaves.
    30. Occasionally when dragging a bus from the environment, there is some visual garbage in the track automation (see screenshot).
    31. There should be a way to LOAD and SAVE selections in the arrange window. Quite often when editing audio from a countless number of parts/regions, it becomes painful when you have to select and move 100s of audio files. There should be a way that you can just select a ton of regions and save that selection, and reload it at anytime. There are a few 'select' tools/options under the edit window, however they are song specific-- not track specific. So they are completely usesless for what I need.
    32. Logic should offer a feature to collect sysex data from midi devices so that patch names show up and can be selected via program change.
    33. When no track or part is selected, and you vertically zoom in, Logic should zoom into the center most track.. It behaves very oddly and zooms in more towards the top. This becomes extremely annoying when dealing with a sequence involving 100 tracks, and a part is selected but you scroll far below where the part is.. When you begin to zoom in, it takes you towards the selected part, yet it's not displayed on the screen and you have no reference for what you are even looking at. The rule should be this: If the part is on the screen, zooming vertically will bring you to it. If it's off the screen, you will zoom into the center track of whatever is currently on the screen.
    34. I mentioned this in a thread earlier... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=752485&tstart=0
There is a bug when using the transform tool involving the 'position' variable. In my example, I was attempting to reverse the time placement of three chords, that occured in a part somewhere in the middle of my song. By selecting the measure start and end of this part, Logic was unable to select or operate with the transform tool (and I tried a variety of transform options). If I moved this part to the beginning of the song, then the transform tool would suddenly work. After some research, I found online someone had said "Position Time position of the event, referenced to the start of the MIDI Region (not of the song)."--- But if I still doubt this is true, because I then placed the part on a new track with no other data, and placed it in the middle of the sequence and in the transform tool under position I selected '1 1 1 1' to '5 5 5 5' as well i tried setting the position to 'all', and none of this worked. This obviously is a bug... If it's not then it's a very serious design flaw. The position should relate to measure numbers of a song, and nothing else.

    That is all for now...
For those who firmly agree with me and all of the points that I have brought up now and in the past, I encourage you to contact Peggie Louie, (the Logic HR department contact) at (408) 996-1010 and suggest that she hire me as a consultant to help eliminate Logic's many annoyances. I have tried to pursue this heavily in the past, but sadly I was completely ignored by her on all levels. Maybe you all can help make a difference?

    11. Changing the movie's start time is very user
unfriendly. There should be a simple way to specify
to start at a moment of time relative to SMPTE-- So
you can just say "+9:15" for example, and it would
take you in 9 minutes and 15 seconds, rather than how
it is now where you have to think backwards from
    SMPTE code and subtract.
For this one I'd suggest getting SMPTE calculator. Entering timecode numbers and having to add and subtract is not so difficult, and AFAIC part of a composer's gig. But what I would add, instead, is that it would be fantastic if Logic provided a timecode calculator (edit: even if it was in the form of a custom Logic widget).
    13. Saving a song with a movie open should mean that
when you load that song, the movie should be up and
exactly as it was prior to saving. As it is now you
have to select "open movie again".
This doesn't always happen. I've struggled with this for a long time, and I don't know why sometimes the movie will load and not other times. I would also add here that Logic should show the file pathname to the movie. Somewhere...
    18. clicking on a track selects ALL parts. This is
    so so so annoying.
You can prevent this from happening if you have cycle turned on and set to a set of locators that "contain" the parts you might want to select en masse. I always work with cycle=on so this is not a problem.
    21. If you have multiple tracks of the same track
(such as three Audio track #1's)-- say you are
recording guitar parts, and just copying the track
and muting the previous track as a method of
maintaining multiple takes for later auditioning. If
you draw automation volume data on this track (it
appears on all 3 tracks), and then if you delete the
audio from one of the muted tracks and tell logic to
KEEP it, suddenly all automation data is gone.
    GRR!!!
Never had that happen. In my experience, telling Logic to keep the data always works.
    23. UNDO does not work on every function. for
example, if you change an output to bus 1 instead of
1-2, you cannot undo this. Undo should undo whatever
the last command was, no matter what it was. This is
what the word LOGICal is supposed to represent.
Undo in Logic is highly problematic for other reasons. Here, I think there should be a specific Environment Undo, just like there's a separate undo for audio edits.
    29. When you drag a bus from the environment to the
arrange window, it replaces whatever track was there.
It should ADD a track instead of replace-- atleast
there should be a preference for how this behaves.
Right. This is a matter of personal preference. But still there are other ways to get an object assigned to a track. The "thru tool", for instance. No dragging required.
    32. Logic should offer a feature to collect sysex
data from midi devices so that patch names show up
and can be selected via program change.
My guess: considering how much sheer time it takes to write this kind of software, let alone debug it with every conceivable device, it's not likely this is going to happen.
    That is all for now...

    Wait in line buddy!
    (LOL)
I must say, I'm very impressed with your list and attention to detail. And I feel your pain, trust me. But many of the things you've listed are feature requests and not bugs. And some of the behaviors you've described I have yet to run across. So this is typical with Logic, that it can be operated in so many diverse ways that no two people run it in the same way, nor would two people conceive the program's capabilities in the same way. But I digress...
I also think there's a certain amount of Logic convention that I don't think you've adopted yet, hence your wish for behaviors that don't yet exist.
I don't disagree with most of your feature requests, and I'm (quite unfortunately) able to say that I'm familiar with most of these bugs and about 9 dozen more. But again, it's important to distinguish between bug, feature request, time to RTFM, and errant behavior that's experienced by a very limited number of users.
There's no doubt that this program has its problems. In particular, your #1 re the playback buffer. And I'm glad you've brought many of the bugs into the light for people to read. Good work.
