EXS samples in a partition disk

about puting the EXS samples in a partition disk instead of the system disk?, does it work better?, doesnt matter?

If you mean partitioning your main internal drive, and using that partition for your samples .... then, no, I wouldn't bother.
However, adding separate hard drive (SATA/FireWire 7200, etc) wouldn't hurt, and your samples may load faster, depending on your current configuration.

  • Logic hangs when loading EXS samples on a session that worked yesterday?

I'm using Logic 8.0.2, I try to open session I was working on yesterday and it now won't open? it seems to not be able to find the EXS samples, as it hangs on the grey bars that show Logic trying to find the relevent samples. it takes forever to look and then eventually slips into 'logic not responding' when I look at the pre-force quit window.
This bug is making my life **** at the moment as I have very tight deadlines on picture work, it seems Logic 9 doesn't fix this as others have reported it so I don't want to use that until it's working without any bugs [ LOL! ]. I have 9 installed on a seperate drive when it's worthy of being used.
Been having this problem for at least 8 months now, I've tried 100's of times running disk utility, and preferential treatment I did try about 3 months ago running a spotlight utility but it didn't make any difference.
I have millions of samples spread on multiple drives, this has worked for me for years and years and only now has started to be a problem so 'moving your exs samples to a default area' is no use to me there must be another solution.
    my system:
    Logic Pro 8.0.2
    OSX 10.5.8 [ 2x3.2 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon ]
    8GB memory
    Powercore 3.2.0.38 [ for a powercore firewire ]
    EuControl 2.0.3.63120 [ for a MC Mix ]
    Motu PCI audio driver 1.31 [ for 24i/o, 2408, HD192 ]
    hope someone can help.
I know there're other threads about this [ and it doesn't seem to be being fixed ], apple needs to realise the urgency of this problem.

I have 5 drives totalling about 2 TB of stuff which are my working non-application drives, when rebuilding spotlight index in Onyx the rebuilding takes about 5 seconds so I'm not sure that's actually doing anything at all?
this doesn't happen on every session I can normally re-open something but if it refuses to open I have to run disk utility and preferential treatment, restart and try again. this doesn't always work straight away, it can take like 3 x repeats of this / restarts until the session opens again which obviously is hugely disruptive with deadlines.
I heard that opening a session from 'within' Logic works better and I've been doing this but although it seems a little more reliable I'm still at the same point now where on average 1 in 4 sessions won't open and I have to go through the boring routine of disk utility, etc.

  • "Unable to determine destination partition, disk or drive" when Media deployment is used

We are heavy users of MDT 2013's "media" deployments -- in fact, once we finish testing a new image build on our lab server, media is created and is the sole method we use to deploy new systems due to many limitations.
We ran into the following issue lately when using USB sticks or hard drives for our deployment media. Deployment of an OS image fails at the "Inject Drivers" stage. The hard disk inside the computer is formatted properly, but the TS fails with
the error "Unable to determine destination partition, disk or drive".
I dug into the logs, and it appears that "Inject drivers" does a check for where the \Drivers folder should be placed. The problem is that most USB hard disks and many higher-end USB sticks show up as "hard drives" rather than "removable
media" when plugged into the machine. Adding another physical disk that appears as a fixed disk with an NTFS partition apparently confuses MDT and you get this error message. I think any "ReadyBoost enabled" USB stick has to show up on the system
as a fixed disk rather than removable, so if you use these you might have this problem.
The only workaround is to explicitly specify the disk number and partition number to use when you invoke "Install Operating System." The drivers step must take this information when determining where to put the driver store.
Is there any other explanation for why this would be happening? We're stuck with media deployment for the foreseeable future, and until Microsoft fixes the problem with handling of split WIM files, we have to use NTFS formatted disks/sticks...this might
be making it harder for the MDT logic to determine where to put the OS.

MDT should be smart enough to know that it should Skip USB drives.
However if you have a USB 3 Hard DIsk (not a USB Flash Disk), that might be the problem
    1. Try using only Flash Drives.
    2. Try plugging the USB Hard Drive into a USB 2.0 port
    3. Additionally try not to use USB Hard Drives that are *Larger* that the internal hard drive.
If you still have problems, can you copy your Bdd.log file to a public site like OneDrive and share the link?

  • Unable to format partition, disk may be damaged

I was experiencing a problem with my Windows XP installation on Bootcamp. The Windows side kept restarting, and I could not find the reason, so I formatted with the Windows XP disc and tried to re-install it, but it didn't work. I forget the exact error as to why. So I went back to the Mac side and re-formatted the partition sing Bootcamp, and now when I try to re-install the Windows XP on the Bootcamp partition, I get the error:
Unable to format partition, disk may be damaged
What can I do? I don't understand, because this disk has worked before and I am on the mac side right now, so the actual disk does not appear to be damaged. What can I do?

Do a full format as it will check for errors and mark bad clusters if it finds any (full format = quick + chkdsk /x ), but only create one OS partition e.g like 30GB or something , this will be plenty enough for the os ,instead of the whole drive . Will save you time .
Wait with partitioning the rest of the drive as an extra partition until the OS is installed using diskmanagement .
Also make sure sata-dma is enabled in bios .

  • Can't install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR.

I can’t install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR, and attempting to format the bootcamp disk does nothing. I have read up on this issue, and the only solution seems to be to make a backup of my computer and reformat all disks via 8.1 setup terminal. I REALLY do not want to do that, is there any way to fix this? I’m on OS X Yosemite, if that pertains to the thread.

Interesting. It wouldn’t install because I had FileVault enabled. Huh. Disabling it saved the day.

  • Partitioning Disk and Backing up!

Hello I have had my PB for over a couple of months and I couldn't be happier, except for not being able to run some applications that are windows only.
I have a PC at home (That i will change as soon as I have money to) and I have a partitioned disk on it, I have always believed is safer to have it that way. When I tried to partition my PB' HD it says it couldn't because it contains the boot disk or something.
I would also appreciate some helpful tips about backing up my entire HD so I can "be up and running" in case my HD fries, like I read on another thread!
    Carlos

Non-destructive partitioning is relatively new to the Mac world. Until 10.4.6 a program to do it was available only through third party developers. I'm guessing (and it is only a guess) that you haven't upgraded to 10.4.6 yet. Until you've done that you won't be able to partition using Disk Utility unless you boot from another drive (the System DVD for example).
Is partitioning a good idea? I have a very small bootable partition on my PowerBook that contains nothing but the OS, Apple's Disk Utility, and DiskWarrior. I also travel with an emergency DVD that contains my most important applications and data. And, when I travel, I'll put the programs and data I'll need for that trip on my iPod. This way I can boot into the emergency partition and run disk utilities. If worse comes to worse I can restore a working system from the DVD and iPod. And I've never had to use it.
Backing up: My PowerBook is connected to the network at work every day. At lunch each day DejaVu backs up my documents folder to the network. I also own an external drive. Each week I back up my personal account to it and once a month I back up the PowerBook to it. I also burn a DVD at the same time and take it to work. (A backup to an external drive is no good if thieves take the PowerBook and external drive, nor is it any good if the house burns down.)

  • I need help on my MacBook Pro. Recently I've deleted another partition of my disk from the disk utility and I found out that my disk capacity wasn't get into the normal one which is 750GB. Meanwhile I installed window 7 into the partition disk.

I need help on restoring my disk capacity back to normal. I installed window 7 into the partition disk through bootcamp and I deleted it from disk utility. After I erase the partition disk,I get my capacity to 499GB but not 750GB. Do I need to reinstall my MacBook or something to do with the restoring?

You shouldn't do it. You have to erase the Windows volume with Boot Camp Assistant, so it will restore the space onto the OS X volume and that volume will have 750 GB.
As you did it with Disk Utility, you have to resize your OS X partition manually:
    1. Open Disk Utility, select your hard disk at the top of the sidebar, and go to Partition tab.
    2. You will see a bar with Macintosh HD. You have to click it at the bottom right corner and drag it to the end of the bar, so Macintosh HD will use all the space of the hard drive, and press Apply.
    3. Close Disk Utility and your OS X partition will have 750 GB

  • Need help with Boot camp assistant!!! (partitioning disk)

when i click partition disk in boot camp asistan after 5 minuts this message appears:
*+Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned.+*
+Use Disk Utility to repair this disk.+
anyone know how to fix this??
    i really want bootcamp!

Yes. Your directory is damaged and needs to be repaired. Boot up to your original gray iMac install Disk but instead of going through the install process, after you select the language go up to the top under the Utilities Menu and open Disk Utility. Select your hard drive on the left hand side and under the First Aid tab click Repair Disk.

  • EXS' Sampler Instrument Count Limitation

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone happen to know of a workaround/ solution to EXS' sampler instrument count limitation? I find myself constantly shuffling instruments and libraries in and out of the Sampler Instruments folder, a process which, given my 1TB library, is tedious and extremely time consuming.
Any "magic fixes" or insights would be highly appreciated..
    Thanks!

    Some clarifications:
I have been running EXS Manager, Pro Ed from the get-go.
Once again, my complaint is NOT regarding slow load times (which, believe me, is grounds for a whole separate post); rather the inability to access instruments altogether. In other words: past a certain, specific instrument down the list, others would simply no longer load. They are visible in the EXS menu, but are flat out "ignored" by the sampler.
Additionally, I have tried re arranging them using sub-folders, but to no avail: The Sampler Instruments folder seems to only be able to handle so many instruments.
    Anyone else..?

  • Re-Linking EXS Sampler Instruments & Samples

1 - Curious what you think of this concept:
I have an external drive that I'd like to be able to move to several computers and use as my samples drive. To keep things consistent, I thought it best to keep BOTH EXS Sampler Instruments & Samples on this drive. Then I can just create aliases of the EXS Sampler Instruments and drop them in the main logic support folder. That way I can easily just move the drive to either computer for the greatest flexibility.
Is this ok to do? Is there a better way?
2 - I'd like to re-link many EXS Sampler Instruments to their samples. I used to use the ExsManager Pro.app but that stopped working a while back. Is there another way to have logic do all the re-linking instead?

  • Exs sampler need looped sample to play forever

I have made an exs instrument of 2 separate  1 measure arpeggiated keyboard lines that I have set to loop in EXS sampler on MS2.
I have the EXS set to Mono, and to Unison so that one looped sample will cancel out the other one,  I have now assigned 2 drum triggers on my midi drum kit
to each be the note that each of the 2 samples are assigned to. I have the release, sustain, decay cranked all the way on the EXS sampler, however, my samples still slowly die out.  Is there a way for me to make them play forever until I play the other sample or hit panic button?
as long as I hold the note it will play forever, however I want to be able to hit a trigger that's assigned to that note, and have it simply loop forever

    ù
Is loop in EXS24 editor flagged?  I think here around is your solution
    • Loop On checkbox: Activate to enable looping and to allow access to the other Loop parameters.
    • Loop Start, Loop End fields: Define discrete loop start and end points, allowing you to loop a portion of the audio file.
    • Control-clickeitherfieldtoopenashortcutmenuthatallowsaccesstotheLogicPro Sample Editor (or an external editor). This enables you to set the loop start and end points graphically: Loop Start is represented by the LS marker and Loop End by the LE marker. See Editing Samples in the EXS24 mkII Sample Editor.

  • Where is the best place for EXS samples?

I finally upgraded from my G4 which had space issues. Now I'm wondering: Should EXS samples be on the boot drive or the media drive? How about Reason refill, RMX samples etc.?
    Thanks in advance!

We know that the iPad only connects using wireless but don't know whether you plan to connect the iMac and/or the MacBook Pro using wireless as well.
If yes, the ideal spot for the Time Capsule would be a central location so that wireless devices would all be about the same distance from the Time Capsule.
Think of a wheel with a hub and spokes.  The Time Capsule would be the "hub". Each wireless device would be located at end of a separate "spoke".
If that won't work, Apple does offer devcices like the AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme that can "extend" the wireless signal for greater coverage.

  • Migrating EXS Samples. Logic 6.4 - 8

    Hello.
I'm transferring my work from and old g4 powerbook to a new intel Macbook Pro.
I have a lot of unfinished projects on the Powerbook. What is the procedure for transferring my EXS library across?
If I copy the Sampler Instruments folder over, and the samples themselves, will Logic 8 find them? In fact I have no idea where Logic 8 stores samples for the EXS?
Just wondering if there is anything I need to know/watch out for...
    thanks

Turns out I spoke too soon.
The EXS sampler cannot load the samples I have moved over. It says they are 'not found'. For example I have a drum breaks exs instrument that contains maybe 80 drum loops. When the sampler opens it says it can't find the files, but the name of them seems to have been changed. Random letters and numbers have been added. For example there is a drum break entitled
    AfricanMusic_Machine_-Tropical.wav
But Logic says it can't find AfricanMusicMachineAEE36.wav
When I check the sample's name outside of logic it looks ok again.
Some of the samples load. But very few. If I go to the instrument editor the samples' names are present but they have an explanation mark next to them.
If I click on the exclamation mark and choose 'Open Audio File', I choose the correct file from my sample library but Logic says 'File name too long'.
Any help here would be much appreciated. Is there something I'm missing?
My move from a pb 1.5 to a MBP 2.4 has been totally plagued with problems (not just in Logic) and I'm beginning to wish I'd stayed with a G4 setup. The Trilogy and Atmosphere wrappers are pathetic (I am using them extensively in many an unfinished project)and I can't get Stylus to transfer over in my tracks either. The tracks are bare skeleton versions of what they were, nothing seems to be loading right.
    It's all very frustrating.

  • Problem with partition disk in 2010 MacBook Air

    Hello!
I have a 2010 MacBook Air 11-inch and I can't do a partition disk with bootcamp. I have Windows 7 ISO and I have a bootable usb with this. Then, when I try to do partition with bootcamp , it said that I need a remote optical drive. I don't understand, because with my 2009 iMac I can do the partition with bootable usb since bootcamp. This problem is caused by bootcamp program is not well updated or simply, I can't do the partition without remote optical drive?
    Thanks for help!

Exactly the same happened to me. Yesterday morning I opened the lid of my MBP8,1 (late 2011) on a meeting with a client and It just did not wake up :-/ After forced reboot it would never boot stuck on the same place.
Now what is happening any HDD will be recognized and booted aswell 10/10 attempts but SSD will not boot eventhough I reinstalled it all. The SSD WILL boot in other MBP and is visible on other systems.
The SSD WILL BOOT via USB.
I do not believe the disk is the problem.
My MB was replaced just few months ago. My SATA cable was replaced some time before the MB.
