EXS24 White noise on Piano Samples

I am experiencing a light air-brake-release type sound when triggering or releasing samples on Sampletekk Black Grand Piano Close banks. I think some call it white noise or digital noise. It happens more at times than others, usually with bigger chords. Latency and maximum note settings don't seem to affect it. Suggestions?

There is one or more corruptes samples in your Sampletekk Black Grand Piano Close...

  • EXS24 "white noise" instead of patch

I have many custom exs files that play white noise instead of sound. This is clearly a logic exs24 issue because the same patches work fine in Kontakt 4. Has anyone else experienced this with custom exs files?

This is an old problem that relates to certain types of .wav (and possibly .aif files) that are old or sometimes ripped from CD or something. I can't tell you exactly what or why it happens but I know the workaround...
Basically I'm afraid you have to re-save every sample that is coming out as white noise as a new .aif and re-import it into EXS and it will work again.
You don't need to bounce them out, just go to 'save as' in the region overview and make sure you choose .aif and the relevent sample/bit rate. Don't leave as original...
Then you need to re-build your EXS instrument or overwrite the existing one with the new samples. It's not complicated and it will work but it can be long if you have loads of samples.
I used to get this problem with certain old .wavs imported from old CD-Rom sample discs and I think some files from my old PC. It has been discussed here before but doesn't come up much because it only seems to relate to very old files (something to do with old formats?). Anyway... enjoy

  • Thermal Noise Source - white noise sample file

    Hello!
I just used a sample multisim file and there is a problem I cannot solve and I neither found  a solution here.
I use Multisim 12 for school and I am experimenting with the multisim sample file WhiteNoise.ms12
    from the directory
    National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 12.0\samples\Educational Sample Circuits\Miscellaneous
(you can open it by menu File/Open Samples)
Now here is what i did, I opened the file and replaced XSA2 (a spectrum analyser) for an oszilloscope
to watch the voltage at the resistor R2. Now I start the simulation and double click on the oszilloscope
and I can see the signal and the white noise. well, so far so good. now I stop the simulation and
double click on the Thermal Noise Source to edit some properties or in fact you do not have to change
anything, just close the window with OK (not cancle!) and now simulate again: the noise is gone!
Can anyone help me with this problem? I can't get back the white noise.
(I worked with a copy of the sample file, so I did not destroy anything.)
Thank you very much for your help!
    Mathias

    Hi Mathias,
I see the problem and this is strange. After you open the white noise properties dialog then close it, when looking at the model in the background the noise settings are empty, that’s why you see a square signal source. In the attached circuit, I replaced the noise source with one from the current database and it does have the same problem.

  • Found the source of EXS sampler white noise

Some time back I posted a problem with my EXS giving me white noise when I tried to load certain sample sets. It was caused by tis file format AIFC which for some reason it did not like. so I had to create a work flow to reconvert them into aif. Although the process was long and laborious due to the huge amounts of samples involved I finally managed after 4 days consistent work. Aiff also caused problems which I found interesting so now I have converted every thing via Logic's own arrange page to aif which it seems happy with.
At this point I would like to thank siderealxxx who was the good Samaritan who who came off the Logic Highway of life long enough to give a helping hand while everyone happily read my plea for help and walked on by with out as much as a how's ya father.

    how's ya father.
does that make you feel any better?
we, here are doing a service.
we do not get paid for this service.
it would be acute of you to say thank you.
i feel your pain, but what you've experienced is nothing that other's haven't experience as well.
    logic's got fault's, yes.
but nowhere near the amount that the average poster has in their understanding of music and audio engineering.

  • Spectrasonics - White Noise, No Audio, and Audio/Midi Sync Sample issues

Just installed all of the spectrasonics software. Omnisphere, Trilogy, RMX, Atmosphere. Im getting very mixed results.
The patch plays, sometimes there's clicks. Then it goes to white noise. Then there's no output.
    Thoughts? Thanks

I hear your point re Spectrasonics. Generally when you call a software specific provider, they tell you that they do not provide support for 3rd party software - e.g. Logic etc. Im not sure the troubleshooting is on the Spectrasonics side. Actually, all of them have worked succesfully at various points. Further, the white noise now comes and goes with EXS 24, Battery and others. So, it does not appear to be a problem that is specific only to Spectrasonics.
I use an Apogee Duet. I have tried different buffer settings (256 and 512) and that seems to help with certain apps. E.g. Kontakt appears to work better with less latency at 256. Spectrasonics, when it works appears to work better on 512.
    Thanks

  • White noise or echo?

I am at a venue and am about to film a conference.
When i send a line back to my camera i get a ton of white noise not to mention the miles of cable trailing behind me, or...
If I use a lapel mic it picks up the sound coming out of the front of house speakers producing an echo.
So I am faced, White noise or echo?
What is the easiest to get rid of in FCP?
I have seen how you can take a sample of an audio track in Audacity to remove the noise, is this my best option after choosing the white noise?
I would prefer the lapel mic as it is a lot clearer and lack of cable behind me, but can I remove the echo in post?

    Hi
    Have You tried a program - SoundSoap™ ?
Can be of great help in some situations.
I got the signal from Audio-help-device - sort of cord encirkling the auditorium
One stereo mic down at podium and 20 m cable picked up the Audio-help-signal
*YES - I should have used a balanced line - did not.*
BUT by taking Left Channel and invert this and add to Right Channel - I got a whisper
that was usably when added to a SoundSoaped version of my Audio.
Great - NO IT WAS NOT but it was understandably = Better than nothing.
Writing out the discussion and adding this as Text lower third made it usably.
    Lot's of work though.

The seed is a number sent to the Pseudorandom noise algorithm to start its sequence. If left blank a "random" number is generated and sent to start the prn generator. On subsequent calls to the Uniform White Noise Generator it continues the previous sequence (it is pseudorandom after all). I'm not seeing a sample rate on my version (7.1) only sample number. The default for sample number is 128, which is a power of two, something that FFT's etc. are happier with than non powers of two. As far as the effect on the noise waveform, it just defines the length up to max memory or 2^31-1. What do you mean output power? For white noise you would have to define a bandwidth in which you were measuring the noise and then average over a long time. Try putting together a simple experiment and seeing what effects changing the values has. You don't have the base package, if you have the Uniform White Noise vi, so you probably have the Power spectrum vi, etc. Wire the UWN into a power spectrum, then drop a waveform graph on the front panel and look at the resulting spectra.

  • Premiere 7.2.1 white noise with Audition import

I'd edited an audio clip in Audition and was reconnecting the clip in Premiere. I played the clip in my timeline and it blaseted my ears at full volume with white noise. I tested the symptoms a couple more times before the clip refreshed and the sound went back to normal. Took about 30 seconds from when I reconnected to when the issue resolved itself.
I think I'm going to go make some coffee while my ears recover. And in the meantime, I'm going to be more careful when playing new things in my timeline. But at this rate, I'm going to need hearing aids before I turn 40.

I've been experiencing the same issue mattslote has described.  Like OP, the clip eventually "refreshes" and plays normal instead of as white noise.  For me, the "refreshing" took several minutes to occur.
My process was clicking on a clip in the timeline, choosing "Edit clip in Adobe Audition," saving the edited file in Audition as *file name* Audio Extracted.wav, and playing back the clip now with replaced audio in the timeline.  I experienced the same issue last night, of the replaced audio playing back as white noise.  However, last night the clip did not ever "refresh" after a period of twenty minutes or so (during which I did clear the cache), so I deleted the new audio from the timeline. I did not delete the edited audio .wav flie, which played normal in an audio player program.

  • Making a clean notch in white noise signal?

    Hi-
I'm trying to find a good way to create a 1.5kHz notch in a white noise signal, but I'm having some difficulty.  I've attached the code below (in LV 8.5; it's a small piece of a much larger program), but basically I am using a random number generator to create the noise (at 44.1k samples/sec).  I then FFT to get to the frequency domain at which point I zero the frequencies that I want to notch out (as set by the "Lower" and "Higher Band Frequency" control). I then inverse transform the function back to the time domain and output it as an analog signal to the speaker.  The problem is that I'm not getting anything like a notch in the noise frequencies--at best, all frequencies are present or none are.
Any suggestionson how to get this piece of code to work? (Or a better way to do this...)
    Thanks

  • How Do I generate a Filtered gaussian white noise

Can someone please help me on how I can generate filtered gaussian white noise in LabVIEW.

Actually in the moment you specify a sample rate for your Gaussian white noise data you apply a filter equal to F_sample/2. But anyway If you want to have 10 seconds with white noise sampled with Y Hz in sample frequency. Then you create an white noise array, with 10xY samples or elements. Then you apply your filter
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Histogram of Gaussian White Noise with NI5112

I am digitizing some random gaussian white noise with a NI-PXI 5112. The problem is that even with very high number of samples (1 Mega sample) the distribution presents a lot of periodic pikes when making a voltage histogram (either with built in function or by postprocessing data with Mathematica).
I am using two synchronized digitizers and they both have the same behaviour (pikes symmetric around 0 and with periodicity), but give different response from one another.
I already tried to filter the data, change the vertical range of both aquisition and generation devices, but the pikes always appear at the same relative values, and with the same relative number of counts.
How can I overcome this problem ?

Could you post a screenshot of your histogram? How many bins do you have in your histogram?
Remember that the 5112 is an 8-bit boards so you only have (in the order of) 256 possible values so unless you 'hit' the exact values your bins will have un-equal weights. This could result in the periodic behavior you are observing.

  • Adding white noise to signal

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to allow a user to add white noise to a signal, the idea is that the user would enter the noise ratio in db which I would then apply to a signal measurement before displaying it. I looked at the add gaussian white noise vis in LV but I am not sure how to go from the noise ratio that the user enters to the seed and standard deviation inputs for the function.
I tried to look online but all I found was ways to add noise based on amplitude, is there a way to convert from the db ratio to amplitude given that I do not know the amplitude information of my original signal before hand since it is being sampled in real-time.  Any information about this would be greatly appriciated i realize that I might be mis-understanding the way signal/noise processing really works.
    Thank you,

dB is a dimensionless relative measure, you need a reference intensity in order to calculate it
    Often times in electronics you see things referenced to 1 mW,  called dBm = 10 log10(P / 1mW), so P = 10^(dBm/20)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBm
For sound dB SPL = 20 log10(I / I0), I (intensity) is usually expressed  Pascalls  I0 is nearly always referencec to human hearing threshold, which is 2 * 10^-5 Pa.   Multiply by your mic gain to convert to from pressure to volts.

  • Internal Microphone White Noise

I have a Satellite E45-B4200 laptop and it has served me well for the last 4 months with no issue. Unfortunately it has one FATAL design flaw. If I plug in my Sony headphones into the headphone jack it RUINS the internal Micophone. This happened before and it made the mic record everything and enything and echo it back at me. I resolved it... dont remember how and here we are again. This time when I record my voice on such programs as skype it has an intense white noise ethat completely covers up my voice and requires a strong yelling just to get the message through. Please help. I will provide as much detail as needed to resolve this.

It makes two of us. This issue is driving me crazy! I tried:updating the driversrestoring default mic settingenable/disable echo, noise cancellationtry different mic quality setting (sampling rates) Nothing seems to work. The internal microphone makes this anoying white noise all the time. I can't use Skype nor Cortana without pluging in a headset, which definetively kills the purpose. If I can't find a solution to this, my next replacement won't be a Toshiba laptop, that's for sure.

  • Throwing stuff in trash makes loud awful white noise sound???

Just in the last few days when I throw something in the trash, instead of the normal sound it is set up to make, it will have a very loud fuzzy white noise type sound. The only way to get it to stop is to restart or shut down. You can't turn it down with the volume either, no response to that. What is going on? Is there something I can do to correct the problem? It doesn't do it all the time either???thanks

it's very interesting that you're experiencing this while playback.
I've (and many others....) got the same problem during recording, which by the way is a very painful experience or everybody that's wearing headphones..... normally people get the error message "disk is too slow" when that problem occurs!
Since there is no official and unofficial cause for this problem and also no solution currently it's hard to say what's behind it.
the only one thing i tried yesterday was playing around with the buffer size. in my case i experienced that crash yesterday a couple of times (in like 1-4 minute distances) when my buffer size was set to 128 samples. when i used a buffer size of 64 sample i dindn't get this error anymore. (don't ask me why, i can't explain it. another interesting thing is that the cpu usage doesn't show more when using only 64 samples)
try changing the buffer size, maybe it helps.....

  • Severe random white noise problem...who to contact?

i primarily use logic with the vienna symphonic library software and generally things have been great...however.
occasionally when selecting notes in the piano roll severe blasts of maximum volume usually painful white noise will shoot out of the speakers.
this is quite unsettling for many reasons.
i've noticed some threads around the web about this (for example http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2144002&tstart=30 ) and i would like to do whatever i can to help apple fix this.
for me it's pretty specific as it has only happens when editing in the piano roll in a track that has a vsl instrument loaded into it and i click and drag to select multiple midi notes. perhaps it's a vsl issue but the thread i mentioned above suggests there's an apple issue. i'll post this on the vsl forum too.
what's more disturbing is it's happening more frequently but i haven't changed anything in my setup that seems remotely related to this except upgrade to 10.6.3 today which didn't help.
i'm using logic 8.02, snow leopard 10.6.3 on a macpro 2.66 quadcore with 8bg of ram.
so if anyone has any insight on how to fix this it would be wonderful or if someone knows of an address i can send my circumstance to that may help apple fix it that would be great too.
