EXS24

Hi.
I seem to have stumbled upon a bit of a problem and I cant seem to find a solution. While trying to set up a new instrument in the EXS24 I noticed that for some bizzaire reason, everytime I hit a key on my outboard synth to trigger a sample within the ESX24, the sample would play an octave higher. The midi in/out on the transport bar is congruent to the key I'm playing on the synth, but within the instrument editor page, the key being triggered is one octave higher. For example I hit C1 the note that is triggered and plays is C2 and so on.
When i click on the keys in the instrument editor the same thing happens only both C1 AND C2 play.
This must be a thing within the actual song setting of something as I've opened old songs and empty arrange page's and the problem isn't there.
Does anyone have a answer to my problem?
If so, please help.
Thanks

Hi. Ignore my question as I have already answered it. For some reason a transpose was set an octave up in the part display area. Typically a schoolboy error which i admit. the odd thing was, was that it seemed to effect all my EXS24's and not the track selected. Anyway, sorry to all the people who read this and realise that it is a waste of your time.
Peace out..

  • Logical end-of-file reached during read operation - Errorcode -39 - EXS24

After i switch the harddisc-speed from medium to slow in the exs24 virtual memory setting, everything works fine. If i now try to relaunch the Song i get this error-message and one exs24-instrument sounds strange. This is a sound from one garageband expansion pack. If i now reset this setting to medium again, everything is allright.

It's a problem when (opening a song) Logic try to
open an exs24 with some corrupted sound.
    YES! This is absolutely correct.
    Problem solved!
After posting my problem on two boards:
First, I went through the songs audio files one by one, in Logic's audio window using the "Change/Convert" command with "Change file reference in audio window" selected. This didn't help in this case though.
After looking through the EXS24 tracks I discovered that the culprit must have been sample(s) for an "exotic" EXS24 percussion track. After bouncing the track, I re-added it from Audio window, and now the error is gone.
    Phew! Thanks everybody.

  • EXS24 load times

    Hi chaps,
I recently have a probably with exs24 inside logic pro. When trying to load or change a selected patch it take FOREVER to load the bar just stays half way or so then eventually it loads fine.
I have all my exs samples on extrenal firewire drive and have created alias inside my sampler insturments folder.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening?
    Thanks

This happened to me as well, and I think the reason is :
1: When you reinstall Logic, it has to search for all the sounds on your hard drive all over again, at least in my case or
2: Moving the sounds all over the place causes your computer to need to look for each one.
Its not exactly a solution, but more a reason to why its happening. Hope that sheds some light.

  • Very slow load times on EXS24 instruments?

Hi everyone - I have a troublesome problem..
At the moment this only seems to happen garage band instruments loaded in exs24
When I try to load instruments from garageband i get to enjoy the spinning wheel and about 3 minutes of load time [and this wouldnt be the first stime i would have loaded the instrument]
When it does finally cease spinning it asks me to choose between the garage band samples, or dupe sampler files in self contained projects.
I always pick the garageband directory..
Is there a way to decrease the loading time?

This tends to happen when you have more than one copy of the EXS sample on your drive network. As soon as EXS sees two of a sample, especially if there is no existing direct link in the EXS instrument, it will tend to scan your whole system for any and all potential duplicates. This can take a while.
My only suggestion is delete the duplicate samples and make sure your instruments all contain path links to the appropriate samples. Bear in mind that if you store samples in the project folder, at least those should be found quickly, but it will not solve the problem of loading new patches into the project.
To be able to find and get rid of duplicate samples and re-establish the links in a batch fashion, I highly reccommend EXS manager by Redmatica.

  • Logic 9 Pro won't load apple loops library or EXS24 Instruments!

    First off, specs:
    I'm running 9.1.8 on OSX 10.8.2
I recently purchased a brand new 13" MacBook Pro (early this december) and used migration assistant to transfer my accounts, apps, and such from my old hard drive to my new one. Everything seems to be in its place and running fine, except for Logic 9 Pro.
Whenever I load up a session featuring the EXS24 sampler, the loading bar will hang up upon loading the instrument, eventually turn into the spinning wheel of death, and become unresponsive. This also happens when I create a new session, open up a new instance of EXS24, and attempt to load a patch. All of the other stock Apple instruments load up just fine.
I also noticed that Logic can't locate my Apple Loops Library, as every option in the loop browser is grayed out. I went into my library folder and found the EXS patches as well as the Apple loops, so I know they're there!
Unfortunately, I don't have a Logic 9 CD (It came preinstalled on my previous computer), so to my knowledge reinstallation isn't an option, unless there's a way to reinstall Logic 9 without a CD and without losing my license. I've already tried the following to resolve this issue:
    - Reindexing spotlight
    - Reindexing loop browser
    - Disabling spotlight on the volume where the Logic files reside
    - Deleting the Logic 9 preference file
If anyone has any insight or a way to reinstall Logic 9 Pro without a CD and without losing my license, it'd be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
You probably need to re-index the Loop Library.
In Logic 9 control click on the Loop Library and choose "Reindex"
In Logic X use the Loops Menu at the top and again, choose "ReIndex".
If that does not do it, you may need to manually remove the Index files

  • Loops in EXS24 !!!

Hello folks. Im having a bit of trouble here with the EXS24. So for all u ppl who have loaded loops into the EXS24 notice as the keys go lower it slows but when the keys go higher the sample loop speeds up. This is great and all but does anyone kno how to keep it at the same tempo even when i presss the keys going up or down. I just want the same tempo for all keys. and the pitch is fine since it goes up or down. Any body have a solution? much appreciated.

    Hi,
that's how samples work. Usually, the pitch is increased by increasing playback speed, which makes the sample sound higher.
You could, however, treat the individual samples in the sample editor, using the time&pitch machine, and then saving several instances of samples for each pitch. But keep in mind this doesn't do magic. You can't take a sample that sounds in c1 and transpose it's pitch up to c3 and still expect it to sound as good as the original. The bigger the difference between original pitch and target pitch, the more artifacts will be introduced by the time&pitch machine engine.

  • Tempo-synced loops in EXS24

    Hi,
how can I make an EXS24 instrument with custom loops that sync to the given BPM?
Now, I first play (MIDI) notes/parts, quantize them, convert them to audio files, then create a new sampler instrument from the created regions. This method is almost what I need, but now I want my samples to match the given BPM.
Maybe it's important to say that eventually this sample instrument needs to be beat-synced in MainStage.
Thanks in advance for you help,
    Jasper.
PS: I'm running the latest Logic Studio (with Logic Pro 9.1 & MainStage 2.1)

    Since I'm a newbie:
    - what's the quickest way to do this (I have several - 40 or so - samples on one track in Logic Pro)? Or do I have to load them one by one in Apple's Loop Utility?
    - is there a way to use these Apple loops in MainStage (because that's eventually the purpose) and will they still sync to the given tempo?
    Thanks again,
    Jasper.

  • Drum Loops Missing But Plays Fine? EXS24 Instrument "2-step remix.exs"

Half of my drum loops play just great in the loop browser but when I drag them to the playhead I get the error message "EXS24 Instrument "2-step remix.exs" not found." and the same loop that just sounded great in the loop browser instantly morphs into some nasty series of sine wave beeps and clicks. What could possibly cause this?
    Much thanks for any ideas.

That does make a lot of sense, I'll check the computers tomorrow when I get back to the studio and see. I usually sling the control over to "never" for putting the computer to sleep but I don't remember doing anything to the HD sleep.
Many thanks for that suggestion, fingers crossed.

  • Problem with Samples in EXS24

    Hello Community,
i use the EXS24 as Drum-Sampler in Logic. I load some Drum Hits (.wav) into the exs24 and record my drums tracks.
But sometimes I have the following problem:
I load a .wav file into the exs24 but it sounds not like the original .wav sound in the finder preview or in quicktime - its totally blurred and u here a loud noise - so i cant use it for my music... i cant understand where the problem is, because i load it into the sample like always! Is a wavefile with 2,9 MB to big for this sampler??
Can somebody help me to get this to work?
    Thanks

found a solution that worked for me with same problem, turned out the samples I was using were 32 bit.
    Go to media>bin>add audio file
then add all the files to your bin. drag the files from bin into exs24.
hope this works for you as well!

  • How many instances of EXS24 can you fit into one session?

    Hey all,
Well, it seems like I finally have a project where I'm starting to max out my new Intel iMac. Everything was working fine until I added my 22nd VI, and then I started getting all sorts of CPU overload errors. All of my instances are EXS24, and all the samples are divided up between VSL's Opus 1 & 2 and some M-Audio strings and brass samples I got awhile back. I'm using VSL's Performance Tool on a few of the VSL tracks, but not all of them, and I don't know how that effects CPU performance.
I was really hoping to squeeze 30 VI tracks into the sequence, because I still need to add a trumpet section, with all their articulations. Therefore, I'm going to try tweaking some settings to get a few more tracks in.
So, my question is, given my set-up, what's a reasonable number of EXS24 instances? Should I plan on limiting my arrangements to around 20 instances of EXS24, or have most of you tweaked your systems to the point where you can usually get more than that?
    Thanks!
    Kevin
P.S., can RAM usage effect the CPU in anyway so as to produce a CPU overload? When looking at my System Performance monitor, I can't see a CPU spike right before I get the errors, but I have noticed that the Activity Monitor program tells me that I only have 13.4 MB left out of my 1GB of RAM.
P.P.S. -- Also, I should mention that none of my tracks have effects plug-ins yet, except for the Gain plug-in on the M-Audio tracks, since their samples are so much softer than VSL's.

I was reading your thread and wanted to know what you
thought about the different VSL inst that are out
there to buy. I see that you have a little of
everything. Is there a pack that works best?
So far I'm really enjoying the Opus 1 & 2 collection! Even though the Opus libraries are supposed to be an "entry level" library of sorts, it's amazing how realistic-sounding you can get your arrangements. I'm definitely going to save up and get the full-blown library in time, but for now I'm really happy with Opus 1 & 2.
The thing I like about them is the amount of variety you get for the price. For example, for a little over $1000 you could buy just one section of the big library, like Brass I, but for the same amount of money, you can buy both Opus 1 & 2, and have a decent collection of brass instruments with the main articulations you need, like sustain, staccato, sfz, flutter, etc., plus you get the same thing with violin sections, viola sections, etc., as well as a lot of solo instruments.
It's a really nice collection. Of course, paying $1000 for just a brass library is going to give you a ton of brass sounds that you don't get with the Opus collection, but for an affordable library with a lot of really usable sounds that you need for stuff like television scoring, and whatnot, it's great.

  • Missing chimes in EXS24 how to recover?

I am trying to at least listen to the sound of the chimes, which is under "Percussion and Specials" in the inst. list under the EXS24 sampler. when i touch my keyboard, with Rec. enabled on its track...no sound nothing! I've tried different registers and octaves with no success. Next, I tried the next instrument sound which is "clouds" on the same channel and everything, and it worked. Any ideas, plus... where can i find this particular aiff file to reinstall it if necessary?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I had trouble with this too, but I found the Chimes sound only from C1 to G1,
some are sustained sounds and some are short, but you should have them in this limited range of the keyboard. If you need to you can edit the patch to expand the range.

  • Decent Saxophone Samples - Where can I find some for the EXS24?

I'm writing for a line up that includes Baritone and Tenor Saxes. The Logic samples grate on my nerves...THEY SOUND LIKE RASPING KAZOOS!!

  • EXS24 Root Key Issue

When creating a new sample instrument, the generic assigned root key of C4 does NOT play back the sample (audio file) at the right pitch. In fact it is an octave off. A sound with root key of C4 will sound an octave too high (and twice as fast) when the C4 key is pressed - this is using the instrument editors own virtual keyboard which has a nice C4 printed on the key. Playing the C3 key will give the desired result playing it at pitch.
What is going on? Has anyone else noticed this?
I used two different computers so it seems to be systematic.
    Paul

This is because the default root key in the sample editor of the EXS24 is C3 (i think). This means that regardless of what the sample is(all be it a C4 pitch) C3 will need to be pressed to play that sample at its actual speed/original pitch. this means that if you want the C4 sample to play normally when C4 is pressed, you will need to change the root key in the instrument editor page.

  • Can't open files in exs24

    Referring to problem in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6520703
After update 8.01 opening files does work here also, but I still can't open .exs files in exs24!
If I want to load files they are grey and can't be selected.
Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

    jannemarete,
In addition to what Scott and PrintFusion said, the offending file(s) could have been created in either CS6 or CC.
In the latter case you will need to download the CC trial (you can use that for CS6 files as well, but there is no need to squander that option before you have some CC files do deal with).
The CC download can be made from this link:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html?promoid=JZEFS
An easier option may be to ask for a CS5 version when you receive files from others with CS6 or CC. Also, if you do that, any version induced change in the files will be on them.

  • Why can't I load some samples into Logic's EXS24??

    Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with loading some of my samples into the EXS24. I am using OSX 10.3.9 and Logic 7.1.0. When I try to load a sample, I can see that it recognizes it, yet when I click on it the sample doesn't load. It doesn't even try to load, It just shows blank dots in the loading window. Can anyone help me with this? I have to have this to work for my job. Thanks so much for the input!
    -Matt

When you say you are loading a sample, I presume you are not trying to load a sample using the EXS24?
If you are, you should read the EXS24 manual, because that is not how it works - the EXS24 directly loads "sampler instrument" files only, and it's those that contain references to all the sample files.
So you open the EXS editor, create a new instrument, load your samples into that, save it, and then select your instrument in the EXS24. Long-winded, but that's how it works.
Or did you mean something else?

  • 9.1 update - and EXS24 can't find my samples anymore

Everything was great under 9.0.2. I have a "Samples" folder on a drive, with an alias to it in Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments. Worked great.
    Installed 9.1.
Now, when trying to load an EXS sample from that library, I get:
    "EXS24 Instrument "[whatever]":
    Audio file "[whatever]" not found.
    Continue/Search Again
Stranger still, when I look in Application Support/Logic, I find Logic has for some inexplicable reason copied the very files it can't find from my samples drive to the Application Support/Logic folder so now that folder is filling up with all kinds of audio file garbage from the samples it supposedly couldn't find.
    W-T-F??
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
    Thanks in advance!

That problem happened to me in logic 8 as well and has occurred at least once in logic 9. My uneducated guess it that for some reason the path is lost in the EXS24 when pointing to samples. try opening and closing the project a few times. More than likely you will have to locate the samples again in order for them to play. From now on I always save my samples as assets to my song's project file. That way you always have your samples if you move to another computer or the EXS has trouble locating them.
