    about 2 months ago I purchased new PC with windows 8 (earlier it was 7).
    All other older an newer External Storage devices working fine
    I also have 593400-A 500GB 08/11 that work fine.
    so also DTP110 1TB 07/13 and DTP110 1TB 07/14, plus 3 more from other make also working fine.
    Thanks for your help and advice

    Every HDD is a “wear part”.
    What does this mean? Well, sooner or later every HDD will die… and in most cases such issues appear suddenly and are surprising.
    Such HDD is an simple plug’n play device…this means that you have to connect it to USB port and it should work…
    If its not the case, the device could malfunctions and usually this isn’t fixable.

  • Upgrade HDD On An EliteBook8540w - What HDD Will Fit?

    Hello fellow HP Laptop users I own an EliteBook 8540w and am wondering what HDD I can use to upgrade this box. Detailed specs of the box are as follows. CPU Type: Mobile QuadCore Intel Core i7-740QM, 2100 MHz (16 x 131)
    Motherboard Name: Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 8540w
    Motherboard Chipset: Intel Ibex Peak-M QM57, Intel Clarksfield
    System Memory: 8119 MB  (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM) DIMM1: Samsung M471B5273CH0-CH9 4 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM  (9-9-9-24 @ 666 MHz)  (8-8-8-22 @ 609 MHz)  (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz)  (6-6-6-17 @ 457 MHz)  (5-5-5-14 @ 380 MHz) DIMM2: Samsung M471B5273CH0-CH9 4 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM  (9-9-9-24 @ 666 MHz)  (8-8-8-22 @ 609 MHz)  (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz)  (6-6-6-17 @ 457 MHz)  (5-5-5-14 @ 380 MHz) Video Adapter: NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M  (1 GB) HDD:The HDD I have now is this one.I assume the height of the HDD is the key factor here, so not so many restrictions on the HDD, is this correct? I could get a SSD as well as long as the height is fine, right? Thank you for your help. Best RegardsW9Y

    Dear Huffer Thank you for your informative reply here as well! I recently had a laptop over for setting up a new OS and there was an SSHD in it that made the boot up process blazing fast, though the transfer rate was mediocre. So I have sort of come in touch with a sort of SSD already and liked what I experienced there. Would you by any chance be able to recommend a few good SSDs off the top of your head? Let's say in the 100GB, 250GB and 500GB size league? What makes are good and what makes should one try to avoid? The box is primarily used for simple graphics editing (Illustrator, Sketch, etc), running various OSs with VirtualBox as well as office work (MS Office 2013) and mostly coding (WAMP, webdev work, etc). I have come to quite like running VMs and doing work there while keeping the host free from Windows rot. Works great so far. No gaming or intensive video editing is planned, at least the gaming part I have no interest whatsoever, might take a dab in video editing though. Why do I mention this? Well I assume depending on what the SSD is used for there are possibly better or worse choices. Since I also do frequent images of the host OS (Macrium Reflect Free does a truly excellent job there for years now!) it would be great to have a fast transfer rate on the SSD itself, I mean from the common C: partition to the D: partition. I am accepting your reply as the solution to my question and would be super happy to hear about your SSD experience, you being a true fan of this technology it seems. Again, thank you for your help. Kind RegardsW9Y edit:For example looking at this review of this heavily marketed SSD it seems great for gaming but "In our real-world workloads, however, it generally performed well below par.." so nothing I would even consider taking into consideration I like fast or at least solid internal transfer rates as well as decent performance when using VMs or imaging the host OS. So yeah there you go, what is great for one type of user should not even be looked at another type of user. Fun fact about that review is the productivity scenario they pick for "most users", that being , here it comes, "32-bit Vista", "IE8", and "Office 2007". Let me ask you, who uses Vista in 2015? Who actually does still use Vista at all these days? Anyways without wanting to sound arrogant or anything, it did make me laugh when checking that SSD review..

  • Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 causes network broken

    I use my extenal hdd(usb 3.0) to macbook(MacBook5,2,OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)).
    During copying files, the network is broken.
    I use other hdd(usb 2.0), but  there is no same situation.
    Does anyone have same situation?
    How can I submit this problem to Apple by email?
    Thansk.

    That's too bad. >_<
    I have look up online support page. It recommends to go to Apple store, but I don't think it's work.
    I just stop copy action and monitor network by ping.
    When I copy file, ping is timeout. When I stop it, ping is normal.
    Strangely, it's noraml sometimes after reboot.
    I think it may be caused by some driver issue.
    Thanks.

  • Rename Toshiba Canvio 2TB

    I am using a Toshiba Canvio 2TB external HDD on my router (Fritz!Box 7490) as a NAS disk.
    Unfortunately the disk always shows up as "TOSHIBA-ExternalUSB3-0-01" in navigation trees.
    Up to now I did not find a way to rename the device to e.g. "Media".
    Could anybody please tell me how to accomplish this.
    Simple rename in Windows Explorer does not work. Must have something to do with a HDD name provided / delivered by Toshiba.
    Thanks for your support.

    Hi
    The option rename which is available and provided by Windows explorer does not rename the external HDD but the storage name will be changed only within the Windows explorer.
    To be honest Im not quite sure if you could change the HDD name which appears in the fritz box menu.
    However, maybe you could try to use the clean or clean all command on a selected disk to delete all of it's MBR or GPT partitions, volumes, and any hidden sector information on MBR disk.
    Details here:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html
    But use it at your own risk!

  • How to find what provider is used to for cipher in a SSL socket's handshake

    Hi,
    I have few security providers loaded with Mozilla-JSS provider above the SunJSSE provider.
    SSLContext is provided by SunJSSE. If I get an instance of Cipher seperately, it says it is provided by Mozilla-JSS.
    How do I know what provider is used inside the socket's handshake method to get the cipher in the following code. Will it be SunJSSE or Mozilla-JSS
    SSLContext sc = SSLContext.getInstance("TLSv1");
    sc.init(null, new TrustManager[] { new SSLTrustManager()}, secRand);
    SSLSocketFactory socketFactory = sc.getSocketFactory();
    javax.net.ssl.SSLSocket socket = (javax.net.ssl.SSLSocket)socketFactory.createSocket();
    InetSocketAddress address = new InetSocketAddress(ip, port);
    socket.connect(address, 5 * 1000);
    socket.setSoTimeout(30 * 1000);
    socket.setEnabledCipherSuites(SSL_CIPHER_SUITES);
    socket.setEnabledProtocols(new String[] {"TLSv1"});
    javax.crypto.Cipher cipher = javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance("DESede/CBC/NoPadding");
    System.out.println("provider for cipher == " + cipher.getProvider().getName() ); -> Mozilla-JSS
    System.out.println("provider for SSL Context is == " + sc.getProvider().getName()); ---> SunJSSE
    Thanks,
    Sreedhar

    I could not get anything extra from the debug option.
    We have a requirement to use FIPS compliant provider. Mozilla-JSS provider is FIPS compliant and SunJSSE is not.
    SSLContext code is not part of the Mozilla-JSS provider API. So, I wanted to use SunJSSE for SSLContext and I would be fine if I am sure that Cipher used inside the SSLSocket handshake comes from Mozilla-JSS.

  • What HDDs are supported for Satellite 5100-201

    Hi!
    My disk made some strange noises, maybe it have one foot in the grave...
    Have latest bios 1.9. and original disk at 30GB.
    Have an Hitachi 40GB I tried with, but notebook did not find it.
    So I would like to know what disks and sizes that are supported for that model.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
    Very strange did you use a compatible 40GB HDD?
    In my knowledge the notebook should be able to recognize the 40GB HDD.
    As far as I know the 30 GB HDD which was installed is a Toshiba MK3017GAP and the computer supports a 20, 30, 40 or 60 GB HDDs.
    I think these HDD should be compatible:
    Toshiba HDD2171B 40GB HDD
    HITACHI G8BC00009110 40GB HDD
    Toshiba HDD2183B 60GB
    PS: The strange noise coming from the HDD could be the beginning of the end
    So make a data backup.

  • What HDD Config?

    Hey All,
    I'm looking to get a new Mac Pro mainly for video with the majority of videos being under 30 minutes, but an occasional product may be an hour plus. The majority of this will be shot in HD.
    What HDD configuration and specs would you suggest?
    I used to build my own PC's so am not scared by the inside of a computer therefore if there are after-market HDD's that you'd suggest over the stock Apple options say so. My division will buy whatever I ask for so cost is not a big factor.
    My initial thoughts were 2 of the 300GB 15k drives in a RAID config with a FW ext. 1TB drive to allow me to work on projects at home and at work.
    Am I being unrealistic on size? Do I really need the speed of the 15k drives?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    You don't need to spend $800 on SAS controller and probably that much per drive? I would pick the fastest SATA drives, 10K Raptors, 1TB Samsung, 4 x 750GB WD RE2s.
    External RAID. If you still want SAS or something, ATTO or other controllers for your editing array.
    http://www.amug.com has reviews of most all controllers and drives for Mac Pro. Also http://www.barefeats.com has benchmark tests.
    While spending $800 on the SAS controller may not be necessary since my division is offering to pony up for it should I take it or go with another option? Same with the drive issue. If the offering is out there for the Apple installed product should I take it or do my own work with a better/more affordable product?
    Thanks for the input

  • I've got a late 2009 mac mini with a 320gb hard drive and I want to upgrade it to a 1tb drive or bigger. What HDDs are compatible with my mini?

    I've got a late 2009 mac mini with a 320gb hard drive and I want to upgrade it to a 1tb drive or bigger. What HDDs are compatible with my mini?
    Because of the price I'm not interested in solid state drives, unless of course you want to send me $1,000.
    I've already got external drives but I take my mini back and forth to work and don't want to carry those drives with me.
    I'm not interested in buying a laptop. My mini works great so why waste $1,000 or more when I can buy a 1 to 3 TB hdd for under $300 and have exactly what I want. My late 2009 Mac Mini with a large hdd.
    I went to Crucial's website and they can't tell me what drives fit my Mac Mini. That's where I got my ram (8GB). I'm ONLY interested in name brand quality HDDs.

    The limiting factor in your 2009 mini is the max 9.5mm drive thickness.
    One of the largest capacity 2.5" drives that meets this criteria is the HGST (formerly Hitachi) at 1.5GB
    Any reputable SATA HDD you can find that is not thicker then this 9.5mm will work.

    HDD: Verbatim 3.5'' External HDD  eSATA & USB 2.0 #48802
    I can not find it in Disc Utilities - so I can not repair it.
    I also haven't found any Driver for the HDD to do an update.

    OK, try restarting in Safe Mode and if that doesn't work try resetting the SMC and PRAM.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
    Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I need to replace my Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF Media, can I use any 2,5" internal SATA HDD for this?

    Hi guys,
    I'm in a situation where my Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF Media has completely given up on me. I cannot understand why Toshiba is being used anyhow, together with SeaGate these were assured failures back when I did IT. My question however is: can I simply replace it with any 2,5" internal SATA HDD that I'd wish to use? I tend to favour any WD HDD. I'm running my MacBook Pro off an external HDD nowadays, but it's not a useful option as I'd like to use it at school and all that.
    I'd really appreciate your answers and/or recommendations
    GJ

    I really like the HGST Travelstar 7K1000 and it would be a good fit for a 2012 model: 7200rpm, 1TB capacity and SATA III speeds. I have a number of them that I use to clone my internal SSD and have put one inside my MacBook Pro just to see how it performs - top notch!
    That's my recommendation - HGST is made by Hitachi and I've always had good luck with Hitachi drives.

    I understand that you are looking for a compatible external HDD. I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at HP Enterprise Business Community.
    I hope this helps.
