Ext USB HDD STORE 1,5T: Red light fires = disk operates very slow

Hi,
This is brand new USB STORE 1,5T 3,5" disk.
Normally disk starts which red light, initialize and switch to blue light. At the beginning disk operates gently - blinking blue when something happens.
......... but after some minutes of usage red light can switch on for a moment (for eg. when new folder is created or some files are being copied - then disk operates very slow - this is visible when copying).
after few seconds disk switches to blue light back - and everything is OK till the next switch to the red.
1. Is that behavior normal ?
2. What is the meaning of red light when disk operates ?
Thank you in advance.

Well, why you dont download the user manual of this HDD and check what the red light could mean.
I checked some manuals of other HDDs and it seems that light up when the drive is powered on. LED flashes when data reading and writing on HDD.

  • External USB HDD Stor.E Basics Sleep Mode

    Hello to Everyone
Recently i bought Stor.E Basics 500GB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive to store my work archive (mainly .docx and .xls formats).
During my work after maybe 5 or 10 minutes my HDD goes in sleep mode and it takes a time to wake up my Drive and resave file. Is there any solution of my problem? I need to disable Sleep Mode.
A few things that i tried:
    1) I tried to use "Always On" profile in Power option from control panel
    2) turned Off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" from Device Manager => all Usb Root Storage Devices.
    3) And also Disk management => Properties => Hardware => HDD => Policies => Optimize for performance.
    OS - Windows XP SP3.
    P.S. Sorry for my English.

  • IMac i7: Slow boot when Ext USB HDD connected.

    Hello,
I have a weird issue with my iMac.
When i have an External USB HDD connected and powered on while booting it takes a very long time for the Apple logo to show up.
I'm guessing this has to do with the fact that my iMac is searching the External USB HDD for an bootable operating system.
Is there a way to preventing my iMac from doing this?
I don't have any OS on my External USB HDD.
    Thanks!

go into system prefs -> startup disk and select the disk with os x on it. that should solve the problem

  • Boot off ext USB HDD?

My HDD failed on me just the other day, I have a new one coming in the post and I wanted to use my old 256GB one as a backup, right now is a storage silo. So I though if this ever happened again I could use my owl one as a spare so the computer can still be used.
I would like to install OS X on the new HDD I am getting then use Copy Cloner (or something) to copy that to my old HDD, of which has an external case. So then I need to know if I can boot off that external drive via USB or if I have to put it in my MacBook?

Hold the Option key immediately after pressing the power key, or while pressing the power key until ALL drives show up. It may take a few extra seconds for some external USB drives to present themselves. Then use the arrow keys or tab key to select the drive you want and press Enter.
After you have booted you can go to System Preferences/Startup Disk and select the external drive as the normal boot drive. It will then boot from that drive normally without any key holding, as long as that drive is plugged into the computer. If that drive is not plugged into the computer, don't worry, it will select the next choice of bootable drive that is present, based on a prescribed order.

  • Host activity lighs ALL light up. RAID VERY slow.

    Hi...
I have three XRAIDs. One is connected to an Xserve serving as fileserver. I'm having issues with it. Suddenly for no apparent reason it will light up all the Host Activity Lights - it appears like it's working REALLY hard! - But nothing really happens. When this happens it becomes almost impossible to navigate the harddrive - both locally on the server and remotely on the network...
The data going to/from the Xraid comes to almost a complete halt!
What's going on? - So far the only solution I've found is restarting the server!
    Any ideas?
PS: There's still 420GB available on the Xraid

What firmware version are you using, and do you have both ethernet controllers plugged in?
Hint: The answers should be "1.5" and "yes." If not, do this and retry

  • Headphone jack red light

I couldn't plug in my headphone to my Mcbook Pro at all.  I can only plug in half way of my headphone.  At the same time,  my headphone jack start to have red light on.  Internal audio doesn't work,  volume icon turn grey and don't let me do anything.  Can anyone help?

f you can only plug your headphone jack in halfway, there is a problem with the jack. You should take it to an Apple store.  The red light is telling you it is in digital audio mode, there is a micro switch that switches between analog and digital output. But seeing that you can not insert your headphone in, you Should take it the Apple store or an AASP.

  • 10.7.5 Have to Force Eject Ext USB Drive After Sleep

Macbook Pro, Late 2011 (USB 2)
I'm finding that I always have to force eject two different 1TB ext USB HDD's after the computer sleeps. Sometimes I think it's even only after the drive spins down for a while.
Most often it's after I let Time Machine backup my laptop overnight.
I thought it was just this drive, until I got a new drive and it has the same problem, though it's not used for backups.
I've been unsuccessful trying to determine what may be using the drive as the eject error states is happening, but maybe that would help me understand if this is a legitimate problem or a bug. Force ejecting has had no noticeable effects, though it makes me extremely nervous on a backup volume. The other disk is a huge sample library that's not written to unless I add samples, so I don't force ejecting that one as much.
In searches for this problem I have only turned up drives that eject spontaneously.
    Thanks for any help.

OK, so a new search in here, not via google, found this:
    sudo lsof /Volumes/{volume name}
    result:
COMMAND PID   USER   FD   TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
    mds      67   root   21r   DIR   14,6      544    2 /Volumes/Backup_1TB
    Finder  152 andrew   55r   DIR   14,6      204   88 /Volumes/Backup_1TB/Backups.backupdb
So it looks like spotlight or finder. I'm not browsing the backup volume, but it looks like it thinks I am. I know there are lots of spotlight issues, too, but I;m not sure if that's the case here.
    I did try:
    mdutil -V /Volumes/Backup_1TB/ -s
    /Volumes/Backup_1TB:
        No index.
    /Volumes/Backup_1TB/Backups.backupdb:
        No index.
So it would appear that spotlight isn't doing anything...

  • Ipod shuffle 4th generation device not shown on itunes, not charging. Seeing red light when connecting to USB charger for a few seconds, then nothing. How to fix this?

My ipod shuffle 4th generation was working fine for a few months. My son then bit the USB charger. I bought a new USB charger, but the shuffle is not charging and not showing up under the devices in itunes. It also doesn't appear in my windows under my computer. Just to note. I also have a new ipod touch. I am able to charge that fine on the same computer using the USB charger. The device (Ipod touch) does show up in windows and in itunes. The shuffle doesn't show in either place.
I have tried to use the apple support page. I went through each step. I made all of my USB drives not shut down, I had my computer on all night to try and charge the shuffle. All I see is a red light that appears on the shuffle for a few seconds when I first connect the USB charger to the computer. Then, nothing. Since this was working a bit ago, I don't think that I have a defective shuffle. The USB charger is brand new, I just picked it up yesterday from the apple store. I have the short one, and the longer cable as well.
Any help that you might be able to give to me would be much appreciated. My daughter is missing listening to her music. Thanks!

Instead of "charger," you should call it the "USB cable" to avoid confusion.  When started reading your post, I was thinking, how can your son break a USB power adapter (the "charger" that plugs into a wall socket) by biting it...
Since you got the product with the two USB cables at the Apple Store, you have the right replacement (some third-party replacements are for the 2nd gen shuffle and do not work with the 4th gen shuffle).  Make sure you are completely inserting the plug into the headphones jack.  The fit may be tighter than expected, since the connectors are new.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3572
If you tried both of those cables, it would be unlikely that you got two faulty cables in one package.  If a new USB device has been added to the computer between the time it worked with the old cable and now, there could be a problem on the USB bus (such as not enough power or a device conflict).
As a test, you should shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub), except for standard keyboard and mouse (if used).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on the computer.

  • USB - Hard disk PX1394E-3G50 - red light

    Hi to all,
Since few days, my usb HDD (PX1394E-3G50) stop working during the day and the light goes from blue to red. Then the HDD is stopping and Windows XP family is hanging.
I noticed that this happens when I write on the disk (multiple thread ?).
this is annoying. I am afraid about my data. I bought this HDD to back up a USB disk that failed. I don't want to loose 5 years of photos (that cannot fit on less that 10 DVD !).
Does anyone already experienced this ?
    Thanks a lot
    Dirk

    Hi
I would probably agree that the drive is experiencing bad sectors - depending on their location, it could be causing the system to crash when a specific function is requested - you said transferring pictures was ok so it is probably something else.
I have Active File Recovery for Windows - that helped me restore the contents of a friend's Hard Drive that had lost a critical index location at the beginning of the drive - it was aware of the My Documents folder but could not read it & kept coming back saying that I did not have appropriate user permission to access it - despite the fact i was trying to access the drive using a USB casing which was hooked into my main computer. (This was an internal IDE drive hooked into a USB/IEEE 1394 external casing unit).
Would suggest you try & see what it actually errors on - then it might be possible to see why it is going wrong. I jave a 250GB USB External Drive which randomly crashed once - I could not recover any data & had to reformat it. Fortunately for me there was little of any great importance on it.

  • Boot Camp Windows 7 do not recognise wifi, ethernet, USB ports and has a scary red light in audio jack output!

    Hi!
I have just tried to install Windows 7 x86 version on my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and a couple of strange things start appearing:
        1. On the Boot Camp Assistant first screen, I tried to download the drivers and after about 15min the system responding that the server did not responded.
        2. I went further and installed the Win7 without making the ISO as requested by the assistant and with no driver burned on a CD
        3. After installed the Win7 I noticed that it did not recognise the WIFI in my home nor any other in the area;
        4. There is a freaking RED LIGHT coming from my Audio jack output that I have never seen in my life... and that scares me!
        5. The USB ports does not works on Win7 side !
        6. The ethernet does not work, Win7 just don´t recognise it...
        7. There is no Boot Camp on Win7 side to be deployed...
Basically I will use Windows to run Quicken for Windows, but I can´t acces my backups on Dropbox because I do not have intercet access, and obviously I am not going to be able to back up new files.
Is there someone able to help me?
    I have:Boot Camp 5.0.0 / Win7 Ultimate x86 / MacBook 2,5Ghz Intel Core i5 MID-2012 / Memories 4GB amd 500GB/ OS X 10.8.1 / Boot Camp partition with 50Gb for Windows.
    I appreciate all help!

Did you make sure to install the Bootcamp utilities after installing Windows? They can be found in the boot disk/usb flash that Bootcamp creates (check for a folder called "Windows Support").These should enable sound/video/trackpad/etc.to work with full functionaliity under Windows (you may need to reboot after doing so). After installing them, you may also want to run Windows Update to make sure you get the latest drivers.
As far as the red light, many models of Macbook Pros are equipped with a digital Audio out. You can either use the standard analog 3.5mm Stereo jack (standard headphone connector), a 3.5mm miniSPDIF digital coax or miniTOSLINK digital optical cable (hence the red light). Windows may not know how to handle to audio out port until the proper drivers are installed and it may be enabling the digital signal by default. Installing the drivers mentioned above should set this back to normal operation.
    hope this helps.
    Toodles!

  • I have a regular usb mouse and it isn't working. It sometimes clicks, but it can't make the cursor move. The red light will not turn on.

I have been using a mouse with my MacBook Pro for a very very long time now:
    Optical USB Mouse:
      Product ID:    0xc016
      Vendor ID:    0x046d  (Logitech Inc.)
      Version:     3.40
      Speed:    Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
      Manufacturer:    Logitech
      Location ID:    0x06200000 / 3
      Current Available (mA):    500
      Current Required (mA):    100
I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a MacBookPro that is fairly old.
The mouse is detected on the USB port, either one, but the red light won't light anymore so I can't use it to move the cursor. I've tried rebooting, I've tried the cammand-option.P.R thing. Still no red light.
    Help?

    Mouse Gas?
I took both of them to work and both worked fine in a different Mac laptop. I brought home two other mice and they both work here in my home computer. That works, but I wish I knew why the first two don't work at home because the logitec mouse I bought for home has very light action and the center wheel needs only a very light touch. I really really liked it and can't find one like it to replace it with.
