Extend background

Hello!
I am fairly new to Photoshop and really struggle with my first job! I have an image with a blue sky and clouds and need to add another 5cm to the sky to increase the image size. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do that. I tried to make a selection and copy the selection into a new layer but because it's not a solid coloured background it just looks wrong.
Any ideas? Really appreciate any tips.
Many thanks
Tania

After you resize the canvas, another way (besides copying) to do this is:
1. Using the magic wand set to a fairly high tolerance, select the blue in the sky.
2. Feather the selection (10-20 pixels should do it)
3. Save the selection
4. Using the eyedropper, set the color chips so one is the blue near the horizon and the other is the blue near the top of the picture.
5. Create a new layer above your main picture and fill is with a gradient going from the horizon up to the top.
6. Add a mask to the color layer (or you can use the grouping trick to effectively create a mask).
7. Load the sky selection you made earlier and invert it.
8. Fill the selection in the mask with black.
You should then have a new 'sky' visible with a smooth transition. You may also need to add a little noise to the gradient layer to make it match the original. If you have clouds at the top border, cloning as Juergen suggests should do the trick.

  • Extend background tool in PS CS4

    Before CS4 come out, some promotional video was running on adobe.com , what we can expected from it. there was video about "extend background tool" , with good my attention, because that is very often what I am doing. It was showing how ease you can extend background, with this tool, in case, you object is out of center or too close to edge. Since then I forgot about it, till now somebody asked me, if I am using it , cos I talked about it before.,
    Adobe support , when I asked , give me answer, that first I have a registered my product, a then they ca answer. They close  case, before I could give them my register info. Anybody remember that video?  Anybody know where is a tool?

    That is how I doing it.  But that was
    a tool ,in  that  demonstration , that showed a landscape and extended background with one click. this is not a tool, this is a technike,...
    thanks anyway, Rudy

  • Can't extend background past 300 frames.

    I want my project to be 400 frames. I can extend all of my layers to 400 frames except the background which is stuck at 300 frames. The background layer isn't locked, so why can't I extend it? Am I missing something?
    iMac Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GB RAM

    If you move the playhead to the end of your project, select each object in your background and press O, each one should extend to the playhead. The only object this won't work for is quicktime movies - you need to change the end condition of the underlying media to loop, hold, or ping-pong for those.

  • Extend background video Loop?

    I am a windows convert to Mac. All my NLE experience is in Vegas.
    I'm doing a talking heads video, with a green screen key. I've got the key working in FCP and I have a library of HD looped backgrounds I want to use with it. Each background is about 10-30 second loop. In Vegas I could add it to the time line and simply drag it for the duration I wanted. Vegas would automatically loop it over and over to the end of the duration.
    Is there a way to do this with FCP? If not and I have to cut n paste it over and over, is there a way to replace all the background videos at once with a new clip, or do I have to delete, and cut n paste all over again?

    Not automatically, but if the bg clips were made to loop it's pretty simple to APPLE C the clip, place the playhead were you want the first copy then just APPLE V over and over to get what you need.

  • Can't Install CS3 Extended from the Installation CD

    System: PC and Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Problem:
    Due to a conflict with Album DS I had to uninstall and reinstall CS Extended. However, when trying to re-install CS3 Extended:
    Background/Attempts to fix:
    - I can not launch the installation process from the program CD.
    - Nor can I explore the CD. It appears as if there are NO files on it but it uses 721MB.
    - Installation has no problem initiating on an XP laptop.
    - I just installed Turbo tax on the Vista PC in the same drive so its not the drive.
    - Right clicking on the Rom Drive in Windows Explorer gets me as far as the installation start screen. BUT when I click on this install button I get Specified file not found
    HELP!

    I spent over an hour with Adobe Support to no avail. Tried:
    - different,external Rom Drive
    - tried a SECOND install DVD I received from Adobe last(and first)
    time I tried to install CS3
    - a "modified start up" installation (disabled a bunch of things),
    - installing under a new account
    None of this worked.
    What DID work was to copy the content of the install DVD onto my laptop then to a flash drive then onto my Vista system drive and install from there. I didn't even have to re-enter my serial number for some reason.
    I never resolved the issue but I am now using CS3 again. Ouch.

  • How to make the background move over when a movie clip hits the edge

    ok so the idea here is to make a page with written content on it. the conent will not be able to be seen unless the user hits the arrow keys on there key board. So i need to make a group of objects i can make into a movie clip and than inside that movie clip make an animation that plays the squirrel running. i will pause here to ask two things i dont know how to do i want the squirrel to have an animation when standing still where it flicks its tail (like a real squirrel would). and also how would i flip the squirrel so when the left key is pressed it points left and when the right arrow is pressed it faces left? and my main question when it reaches the edge of the stage the extended background that runs off stage moves over to reavel more content. as well as not have the squirrel run off stage? in short i am using the squirrel to view the full pages content.

    You're asking for quite a bit and aren't likely to get anyone to hand you a detailed solution.  Here's some things to think about.
    As far as flicking the tail goes, that's something you'll have to work out as an animation.  You could do it as a timeline animation and/or as a coded animation where you adjust the rotation and other properties of the tail.
    Getting the object to face left and right ican be a simple matter of changing its xscale property from 1 to -1 depending on which way it normally faces (1).
    If you don't have a problem making the squirrel move to the edge, then you should have no problem making the background move either.  You just need to continually check the squirrel x property to know when it hits the edge.  Personally, I would only move the background and leave the squirrel in the center.

  • Theme 25 wide page content - body doesn't extent?

    Hello.
    I use apex 4.2 theme 25.
    When I have wide Interactive report (or I see it on devices like iPad) I have horizontal scroll.
    Background of header and body doesn't extend with the interactive report. You can see the picture: [http://files.mail.ru/7C8I88?t=1]
    How can I extend background-color or images (blue header and white body) on the right side on page?

    any ideas?

  • Colour of the bleed

    I use Acrobat 11 Pro (Nl). The document background colour is yellow.
    I can create a white bleed.
    How can I get the bleed  in the same colour as the document?
    - thank you

    There are no tools to extend background if it wasn't made big enough for bleed. This should be done in the original document, by designing oversize.

  • Lightbox stays dark

    I'm having problems with Muse lightbox functionality in Safari on an iMac. Seems to work OK on my MacBook (Safari too), and OK in Firefox. When a thumbnail is clicked, the screen goes dark as if it's about to show a full image - but just hangs there, and no forward, backward or close functions are visible. Any ideas? Also, the whole site looks awful on an iPhone or iPad (site is anchored to the left, no extending backgrounds to the right. I know there are issues with Muse on mobile devices (well, I do now!) - does anyone have a fix for either of these issues? • Virtual PDF-printer in Photoshop

    Hello,
    I'm not able to 'print' PFD's in Photoshop CS4 on my mac. I think there's no virtual PDF-printer installed. I can't find a way to add it.
    * Can I add a virtual printer on my mac, that's compatable with photoshop?
    * Is there some software to print it with?
    * Is there an other way to make PFD (not just by save as PDF) in Photoshop?
    Thanks a lot!

  • CS5 Automating join of splitted scan images

    I've seldom used Photoshop and need some guidelines for the special task to repeat 350 times
    I need to join 2 part scans without overlapping content into one bigger one. Images are of approximately 500x1000 pixels and longer edge is the one to join with other.
    Is threre any CS5 special automated tools for such a task or plug-ins maybe?
    Below is how do I imagine the workflow, does CS5 support it or is there any tools to speed process up?
    1. opening image 2 and cropping it's left edge to straight joining line
    2. copy all to clipboard
    3. open 1st image and expanding it's size to the right approximately 600 pixels
    4. paste from clipboard 2nd image and drag with mouse to it's location on the right, finishing precise alignment with arrow keys.
    5. with manual clone tool hiding stitch line as much as possible
    6. cropping the final image if necessary and save
    Thanks for you ideas!

    Thanks for your time! I see there is nothing new in this area and I must do the job with same hand tools as 20 years ago.
    But
    What advanced blend tools do exist in CS5? Is there a gradient equaliser tool, see below?
    I have reached to the next step after copying manually second half to final extended background image.
    1. If there is a solid colour background image and 1 layer, which method to use to blend/merge layer to background controlling edge blend width, say 15 pixels.
    2. If background image is part of layer 1 image, means layer 1 is second part of 1st image without overlapping part. How too blend?
    a) choosing blend option, which corrects layer 1 edge somehow to fit background neighbour area
    b) gradient equaliser. to flatten image and creating mask of the joined edges, say width of  20 pixels and using special gradient join tool to mask minor exposure and edge join quality differences?
    Thanks

  • Need Suggestion For Background Replacement (Extending Tiles With Perspective)

    Hi,
    I am primarily a web developer... not a photo retoucher. I'm not looking for a LOT of handholding (though I'd take it ) but just some suggestions. I have a fairly typical case where a client will give me a background that needs replacement. Usually I can work some 'magic' with content-aware-fill and masking but I get a surprising number of shots like this case, where there is a background with a repeating 'something' that needs to be repeated/stretched and maintain perspective. Below was my first shot at a 'dummy' effort which shows what I'm trying to learn how to do. I just copied/pasted a selection and used content-aware-scale in a half-baked 'Frankenstein' way. I'm hoping there is a much better way that I'm too ignorant to have figured out! In addition to extending the tiles, I need to match the light/shadowing. Any tips or suggested books/tuts would be MUCH appreciated.
    Oh yeah... I'm using C5.5 Windows (not made it to the cloud yet.)
    TIA,
    ---JC
    Be

    Thanks, I'll look at vanishing point. I'm kinda looking for a 'general' solution... this is just an example I concocted.. but the same issue comes up again and again. I just used the title because it shows the situation so clearly. I can't just 'extend' things because there's a pattern which needs to be repeated -and- displayed with proper lighting and perspective.
    I also definitely would appreciate tips on colour matching.

  • Background image in extended awt.Button doesn't show.

    Hi all
    I have an applet that has only an awt.Button visible on the page. Because of layout requirements I need to style that button with a background image. I have extended the java.awt.Button like this:
         class ImageButton extends Button {
              public void paint(Graphics g) {
                   super.paint(g);
                   g.drawImage(getImage(getDocumentBase(), "../img/loadSertificate.jpg"),
                             0, 0, null);
         }and use the extended:
         public void init() {
              mSignButton = new ImageButton();
              mSignButton.setLocation(0, 0);
              Dimension appletSize = this.getSize();
              mSignButton.setSize(appletSize);
              mSignButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        signSelectedFile();
              this.setLayout(null);
              this.add(mSignButton);
         }Now everiting is ok but when the applet is loaded the background image doesn't show and only a plain gray button is visible. The interesting part is that the image does show after I click somewhere in the browser's window and later on it's always visible as expected.
    Below is part from the log from the java console:

    xmm sry but this was a forgotten repaint() :
              public void paint(Graphics g) {
                   // call super's paint method
                   super.paint(g);
                   g.drawImage(getImage(getDocumentBase(), APPLET_BUTTON_IMAGE_URL),
                             0, 0, null);
                   repaint();
              }Now it seems to work fine.

  • How do I extend my background all the way to the browser's edge?

    I'm making my first website with iWeb, and I'm learning as I go. I tried to use some wallpaper as my background instead of black or white, but when I published the site to a folder, it has black bars to the left and right side of my site rather than extending all the way to the borders of the browser. I had begun designing my site with a black template, so that explains why they're black, but why are they there? How do I extend an image to fill the entire browser space. Also, can I change the dimensions of my site, so it's not just a slender rectangle in the center of the browser? Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    I'm not sure if I am able to help, but will try.
    First, I'm not sure you can fill to the browser's edge. (could be wrong though). If you want to adjust the web page so it is not just a narrow strip down the middle, open your inspector and go to the Page section (second from left). There you will see the name of your page and Page Size. Where it says Content Width and Height you can put your dimensions in there, which should solve that problem. I usually use dimensions of 1024 px wide and 3500 Height.
    I have found if I want to use an image as a background that I am better off placing it on the page and sizing it to fit the way it looks best. If you visit my site and go to Mark's page that is what I did for the background on that page. When I've tried to do it from the Page section of the inspector I never seem to get satisfactory results.
    I hope this helps and you enjoy your site.
