Extend C Drive from Another Disk

Hello,
I want to extend C drive using un allocated pace from another disk. I have gone through the thread "Extending of C:\ Drive by using un allocated disk space from another volume in Windows Server 2008". But I'm wondering if same can be done on Windows
Server 2012 R2 ?
Is there any free third party tool available to perform this task ?

Hi,
If the unallocated space is adjacent to the drive that you want to merge. You can add more space to the drive by extending them into adjacent unallocated space on the same disk. It is still apply to windows server 2012 R2.
For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:
How to Merge unallocated space on disk in two drives in Windows Server 2008 R2?

I'm trying to clone a internal hard drive from another mac using a usb connection to an external drive so that I don't lose the file before reinstalling the software but I keep on getting a message:
    "Restore Failure
Source volume is read-write and cannot be unmounted, so it can't be block copied."
Any advice on how to make a copy of this internal drive?
    Thanks!
....also the internal hard drive i am trying to copying run on a mac os x 10.5 and i'm reinstalling the software because the computer is not starting and only shows a grey folder with a question marks inside.

  • How to extend C:\ Drive from D:\ using Command line.

    Hi Friend,
Need your help for extend 30 GB from D:\ to C:\ Drive using Diskpart cmd.
    My HDD size : 500,
C:\ Drive : 70 GB (Want round this drive as 100 GB)
D:\ Drive : 394 GB (Want to increase form here)
After rounding C:\ as 100 GB want to create D:\ drive from unallocated volume and need to do this migration in Diskpart or in BAT Command line.
    -Thanks

It is not possible to take space from one volume and add it to another volume on the same drive by using diskpart.cmd or any other Microsoft built in tool.
There are some third party tools that can achieve the task you describe.
Anyways, the first step is to take backup of your disk, especially volume D:
After backing up your data, you could perform following steps.
    Using diskpart, remove partition D:
Using diskpart, extend volume C: (extend size=30000)
Using diskpart create partition in the remaining space (create partition primary)
Assign drive letter D: to the partition created in previous step
    Format volume d:
Restore data from backup to volume D:

  • Replacing HD in dv6110ca with a drive from another HP laptop

    Hello there...
I have a DV2500 that has died. The hard drive is a Fujutsu 250gb. I also have a dv6110ca that the HD maybe on its last legs. Would the 250gb drive from the dv2500 fit the dv6110ca??

    Hi,
Yes, physically fit. All standard 2.5" HDD's have same size. The new generation HDD's are thinner but still fit. Your machines use the previous generation.

  • Recovery onto hard drive from another system - Pavilion 790n

This old computer was scrapped and hard drive is being used in another system.
I've decided to let the kids use it and have it up and running again, but used a hard disk from an old emachine computer - I thought I'd wiped it clean, but didn't remove the recovery partition
The system installed Windows & drivers from this recovery partition and works decently, but all of the drivers etc. are the ones from the old emachine and none of the HP system specific drivers are installed. (I do not have the HP recovery disks)
I'm not sure how much is missing as it has only been up and running for a few hours, but I know I don't have any of the dvd drivers.
Q1: Should I wipe the hard disk clean again and start fresh or can I add the drivers I need?
Q2: How do I get every driver I need for this system? The page for this system shows none of the hardware drivers I need.  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=75924...

Hello there SeeBryte!: why not look at your device manager then write down what you see there(it's a listing of all of your components in your PC then go either to www.google.com or www.bing.com there at either one there is a rectangle where you enter the name of each component after that you go to the website of whatever manufactureed the component
& look for your drivers there.
then I'd do the same to all your programs
ultimately I'd buy a retail box of windows 7 or Vista & install it via the clean install (formats it to start over again)
    good luck
    hope this helps

  • Corrupt hard-drive, swapped for an older drive from another similar MacBook Pro

My original hard drive is corrupt, I swapped to an older drive which has snow lepoard on it, when installing Yosemite it freezes now i cant boot into the old OS and installer freezes extracting.
Disk utility says the disk is fine, with no issues.
The original disk failed and would not boot, disk utility says it was corrupt. I have another MacBook pro so i swapped the HD's, it is 320GB compared to the 500GB (failed drive).
It was working fine on Snow Leopard but when I ran the upgrade in the App Store, it freezes everytime at the same point in the install ( extracting the same .pkg file).
    Any ideas?

You apparently have a MBP that came with an OSX newer than Snow Leopard.  If that is the case, the Snow Leopard HDD will not boot in the newer MBP.  If you erase that HDD and install the OSX that came with your MBP (or a newer one), then it will be compatible.
    Ciao.

  • DVD burn fails on verify consistantly, unless you boot from another disk...

    Guys,
I have a dual G4. Always seemed to be able to burn a DVD. Now, Popcorn, disk utility and toast all fail verify for DVD burns.
If I boot from my backup disk and burn using popcorn, toast or disk utility it burns and verifies fine. Both are Tiger 10.4.8, one has many things installed, the back up drive has few things.
It seems to exonerate the hardware and my verbatim media.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
It sounds as if it may be lack of free disk space, or lack of contiguous free disk space. How much do you have left on your main drive? Perhaps deleting some unwanted files would help.
If your drive is highly fragmented the DVD image may be scattered all over the disk, causing a buffer underrun, especially if you're running the burning software off the same drive. You can buy software to defragment it, although OS X defragments small files on the fly so it's not normally needed. Perhaps burning at a slower speed would give the drive time to keep the buffer full. Freeing up some disk space should also help though, so there's more contiguous free space available

  • CS4 Working from another disk?

In the past I have asked about working from our Server which we no longer have but we do have an external data drive to always have with us be it home or on the road with laptop. Is it a big deal to work from a networked (gigbit ethernet)data drive?
    Thanks!

Are you talking about installing ID on the external drive, or just keeping your data files there? The former will not work (and may be a license violation if you move it around), but the latter will, though You may have trouble with ID reporting links missing or modified.
With that in mind, you should also remember that working with files stored locally on your hard drive is faster and more reliable, and Adobe recommends copying to your local machine for editing, then copying back to the external drive for storage. Many of us, however, continue to work directly on external devices without major problems, though I have seen the occasional file corruption at school (where working locally is a disaster waiting to happen if the computer crashes for any reason, like a power blip that happens all to frequently here -- the school machines use DeepFreeze and revert to the base image everytime they boot, wiping out anything you might have stored on the hard drive temporarily).

  • Air port express extending network, repeating from another express but losing signal in bedroom

I have an air port extreme and 4 air port express in my network. 2 of the airport express are repeating off an express and not the extreme. I have solid green lights all around, but I lose connectivity in master bedroom, even with an express in the room... 3 story building, extreme on first floor, bedroom on third....can anyone help?

WDS has so many downsides that I would avoid it if at all possible. For example, WDS only runs at "g" wireless speeds, so you lose the faster "n" speed capability of your entire network.....and bandwidth of the entire network would drop about 75%.
It's very difficult for most users to configure WDS as well.
I would really try very hard to experiment with different locations for your Express devices before I even considered WDS as a alternative.
I need to be offline for about a hour...so will not be able to respond for a bit to further questions

  • Repairing internal hard drive from disk utility

    Hey folks,
I need to do a repair of my internal hard drive on my PB. I understand that in order to do this, you need to boot from another disk. I cloned my hard drive using CCC to an external firewire hard drive so I can boot from the external.
So I shut down and rebooted while holding the option key but the external hard drive did not appear as a choice for which to boot. So I booted with the internal and went to the Start Up Disk icon in System Preferences. There, the external appeared so I told it to restart using it.
After restart I went to the Disk Utility to repair the internal but when I did, the "repair" button would not illuminate. I'm pretty sure I'm running off the external because when I use spotlight, it searches the external and not the internal.
    Any ideas?
(I'm trying to boot off an external because I cannot find my OS X disc referenced here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6642196#6642196)

If the "repair" button does is not selectable, maybe you indeed restarted using the same INTERNAL drive by mistake? Also, it could be that your INTERNAL hard drive is beyond repair, as which happened to my PowerMac's a few weeks ago and I--which I just mentioned on another forum--had to buy Data Rescue II to salvage my data because the only solution was to reformat the drive. It was beyond repair.
I don't know if this helps, but which did you select? The disk itself? (first in the hierarchy) or the volume (second in the hierarchy... list). Sometimes that matters. But I couldn't tell you since I can't see your screen and don't know your exact issue unless I saw it or was able to test it out.
The other thing could be, are you selecting the EXTERNAL by mistake on the list of drives on the left? You can't repair the disk/volume that you are booted up from, why you would need your software discs / restore discs to do that. But since you are doing it the "workaround" way, which should work, that is my guess.

Just a suggestion, why not just erase and reformat the damaged drive, and then once that's over, do a "Restore" from Disk Utility, choosing your external as the SOURCE and the internal that's been reformatted, as the DESTINATION.

    Pondini wrote:
Why is it in a disk image?   (I use CarbonCopyCloner, not SuperDuper).
I call it that because I thought that was what SD termed it.  When I open any of the backup files, they mount like a disk image so, to me, that's what it is.  Sorry if my terminology confused things.
    Pondini wrote:
Can you boot your Mac from the drive?  If so, it's just a normal clone, not a disk image.
I believe so.  (However, it's a ML system and all the other computers in the house, except the dead one, still run Snow Leopard.)  In any case, the file is a sparse bundle.
    Pondini wrote:
If so, your solution is easy -- use Setup Assistant when the new Mac first starts up.  Select From Another Disk when asked if you want to Transfer your data.  See Using Setup Assistant on Mountain Lion or Lion for the gory details. It can transfer everything but OSX -- apps, user accounts and data, settings, etc.  It's similar to Migration Assistant, but avoids some possible problems.
That sounds ideal.  However, my Master Plan ran into a snag late yesterday.  I tried to create a backup (using SD) to get the latest stuff into an image, but SD gave an error message when it encountered one of the files (the Parallels app, which happens to be the very app that we're most keen to migrate over intact.  The error message (using AAA and BBB in place of the full paths) read:
Error copying /Volumes/AAA to /Volumes/BBB of type 8 due to error 7: Argument list too long
The file in question is one of the files internal to the Parallels app itself
    (Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher)
so I don't know if I have options to work around this and have SD go to completion.  SD aborted when it hit that error.
I have a couple of days to play around with this, to try to get a more recent backup.  Otherwise, I'll have to ponder the alternatives.
Thanks for the good discussion and tips!

  • VHD Partitions and extending C Drive

    I have a server 2008 Standard (Not R2) SP2 VM on Hyper-V.
This VM has a 300 GB VHD which, at the time of setting up the VM, is devided into a 30 GB C drive (OS partition) and 270 GB D drive (Data partition).
I want to extend C drive by another 30 GB so what I did is to shut down the VM, extend the VHD by 30 GB and restarted the VM.
I can see these 30 GBs in the "Disk Management" as "unallocated space" but it doesn't let me extend my C drive to this unallocated space no matter what I do.
For the start, "Extend Volume" is grayed out and diskpart.exe didn't help either.
The VHD in the "Disk Management" appears as a Basic disk.
    Please help.

Obviously, the 30GB of unallocated space is not exactly behind this C drive. But, if you insist, you also can take chances with some professional partition resizing tools like GParted, IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free and Active Partition
    Manager and more.
Of course, you’d better back up everything important well before you begin to resizing your partition in case of unwanted data loss.
Here is a useful article that can help you a lot about partition resizing stuff:

  • Cannot boot from installed disk on Intel Xserve

    I have an Intel Xserve.
I have had it for some months,it has been working fine, it is a standby backup machine to others and is used as a testbed.
I have just installed from the supplied DVD 10.4.8.
The installation goes smoothly, however after the first reboot. The system is trying to install from dvd again.
I have tried installing a known working Intel boot disk, and this just gives a folder with the flashing question mark.
I have tried formatting the disk and partitioning making sure to use GUID partition and it doesn't boot.
I can however boot from a external FW drive with 10.4.10 installed.
I can then go into Startup disk and set the boot disk as on of the installed drives, but this has No effect.
I am currently trying to Clone from the FW drive to an installed drive.
    Has anyone seen this behaviour?
Can someone tell me what I can try to resolve this.
All I have read regarding Flashing Question Marks is to ensure disks are using GUID partion and when booting from another disk to set the boot disk in the System Prefences.

    Welcome to the forum!
You're missing the first disk which is "Rescue and Recovery", followed by CDs 1-7.
Make sure to re-align the partitions before or after OS installation in order to get the proper utilization of that SSD.
    Good luck.
