Extend finder bar over two monitors

is there any way to extend the finder bar (the bar at the top with FILE EDIT, time, etc, not sure what to call it) across two monitors? so that the apple and FILE EDIT, etc. controls are on the left monitor and it extends to the right monitor where the time, airport, display, sound, etc. controls are.
I'm pretty sure you can't do this in MAC OS X, so i guess i'm asking if there is any software that can do this.
Thanks!

I have not heard of anything like that. There are some contextual menu (right-click menu) and desktop customization tools out there, I think.
You can move the menu bar (and Dock) from one monitor to the other and change the relative position of the multiple monitors, just drag them around in the System Preferences Layout or Position view. The white menu bar can be dragged from one monitor to the other.
I always have my Dock on the bottom, and it stays on the monitor with the Menu Bar, not sure what happens when you put it on the right or left sides and you have two monitors.

  • Play dvd or quicktime over two monitors

im not sure this goes here, but.... i'm wondering if there is a way (through other software or not) to watch a dvd or a quicktime video over two monitors, basically, to stretch it across both monitors for viewing.
I have two 20" lcds at 1650x1080 each.
    Thanks!

I am not sure about software options...it might work with a hardware device like this, depending on your graphics card capability:

Now, if you strech the video across both monitors, how can you multi-task and get any work done???

  • Powerpoint full screen/span over two monitors

    Hi,
I have looked around, but I have not been able to find the answer to this question.
I have two monitors where I want powerpoint to display the presentation in full.
As it is now you can only have it display on one monitor (no I don't want or am talking about the presentator view).
But I want it to span over both of them not having to start two powerpoints in windowed and stretching them on each monitor.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Donn Gwuan

    Hi,
Do you want to show one presentation crossover two monitor at the same time?
If it is, please try the following steps:
Go to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Display>Screen Resolution>Multiple display> Extend these displays
Go to the presentation on the Slide Show tab>Select it to show on the Secondary Monitor >Check on Use Presenter View as shown below.
For more detail information, please refer to the following link:

  • HT5019 How do I get extended display mode on two monitors off a MB?

I've tried to find answers on other threads but no luck. Is it possible to connect two monitors to a 2008 unibody MB (mavericks) to use extended display? I've never had a problem with using one monitor (mini dvi to vga) as an extended display and now I'd like to add a second monitor via a vga splitter. I thought upgrading to mavericks would solve this but no luck. It's only letting me mirror displays. The "arrangement" option in display prefs not available.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I never for one second thought this would be so complicated.

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • Time line over two monitors

I'm working with two monitors, is there a way to expand the timeline over both monitors?
I couldn't find a way to do it.
    thanks
    arikw

    hiya shooternz !
Like shooter says...drag it out.. which means you gotta "undock" the window first..( little arrow at top right of timeline window )
I'd maybe save your workspace the way you have it now ( if you've done anything to make it nicer than stock )...so you can go back to it if you dont like what happens when you drag it out...
undocking things can sometimes lead to wishing you could go "back" to what you had before at some point...

  • How do you get the Find bar to not automatically close when a page is reloaded or when moving to another tab?

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. Is there any way to get it to work like previous versions? I spend way too much time re-enabling the Find bar over and over.

    You don't.
Clicking on the player window will hide the controllers but clicking the arrow keys will make it appear again.
    Use QuickTime Player 7.6.6 instead.

  • Nvidia, two monitors, both load, opens all programs on first screen

    Hey all,
I have an nvidia GE force 9400GT and using two monitors.
In awesome wm, i get two different screens, almost like two computers shareing a keyboard.
However, in gnome, i get almost the same, but not quite. My wallpaper stretches across both screens, and if i open a program in either screen, it will only load in the first screen,
I don't want one large desktop spread over two monitors, would much rather have two seperate screens.
    Am using the nvidia-173xx package
    appreciate any advice. thanks

I have two monitors as well. What I am doing is running a separate X server on every screen. This behavior can easily be configured in the nvidia-settings application, on the "X Server Display Configuration" tab. Just press "Configure" and you are prompted for three options. Choose "Separate X screen". Then click OK, "Save to X Configuration File" and restart your X.
What you should note when you restart your X is that your window manger doesn't probably load on the secondary screen without further configuration. I have the following two lines on my .xinitrc file which loads Openbox to both of my screens (which you can use as reference):
    DISPLAY=:0.0 exec openbox-session &
    DISPLAY=:0.1 exec openbox

  • Expanding desktop pictures across two monitors

So I finally have two monitors and I have always wanted to get pictures that could span over two monitors. I have some now and they aren't going over both monitors. They just fill the one monitor and clip off the excess...kind of like a Pan and Scan. What am I doing wrong???

You can also use a paint brush and paint the image across both screens.

You cannot have a extended desktop using a splitter.  All that does is mirror the pair attached to the splitter.
You can do this however using a Matrox DualHead2Go.
Other solution would be to attach one monitor to your video out as you do the splitter and attach the other via USB (assuming the adapter supports the monitor's resolution).

  • Hook two monitors to MacBook Pro

I'm new to this posting questions so please bare with me if you have seen my post before.
I've have posted this question twice but can't find either post to see if someone has responded.
    I recently bought a MBP with 1 Firewire800 port; 1 Thunderbolt port; 2 USB3 ports.
I want to hook two monitors to the MBP and I have been looking at the Belkin hub that has 1Firewire800 port; 2 Thunderbolt ports; 3 USB3 ports.
I want to know of I can connect my MBP via the Firewire800 port to the Belkin hub Firewire800 port? That would leave  on the Belkin hub 2 Thunderbolt ports to hook up the two external monitors.
I also have a printer; scanner; DYMO label maker; 2 External Hard drives; keyboard - so I will need the USB3 ports.

  • Find Bar disappears ?

I open 2 tabs with two difffernt web pages loaded in each. I search for a specific word in a web page by Ctrl+F in one tab. However, when I switch to the other tab to search the other loaded web page for the same word, the Find Bar dissappears. Is there a way to keep the Find Bar permenently displayed like other tool bars as I shift between tabs? Does the Safri keep the words entered in Find Bar saved across tabs rather then me entering the word to be found each time in the find bar?

Not sure why that was unchecked but good to know!
Apple's new default (since at least a couple of OS releases back) is to have it off so OS X matches the behavior of an iPhone or iPad.
I almost never need a scroll bar, and when I do, I just move over to the edge of the window when scrolling and a larger scroll bar appears.
Yes, for the most part, users don't really need the scroll bar. That's what the scroll wheel on almost all mice is for. Saves the trip over to bar to physically grab and move it. But, I do like it on all the time regardless. That way (especially with a long article) I can just take a quick glance over to the bar to see about where I am on the page (a third of the way down? halfway?). Otherwise, I have to move the page just to make it appear to give me the same information.

  • T400s Two Monitors Lock Up Computer and Screen Flickers

I am running XP Pro on a T400s using a docking station with two monitors - I find that when both monitors are on extended display the screen often flickers to black and evenually the computer freezes completely - any solution?

I tried the --pos 0x0 and there was no change. I also tried switching the lines of .xinitrc to call xrandr first and no change. I think it has something to do with the way xfce is handling the desktops given the wallpaper switch. I should also mention that this problem does not occur in either awesome or dwm.

  • Burning A File over Two CDs

I have a file I would like to burn to a data cd. It is 737 MB in a zipped format. I only have 700 MB capacity compact discs in my possession. Obviously the file will require more than one CD. I can't seem to find a way to span the file over two cds. I just keep getting the error message that I the file is too large to fit on the disc. It presents me with no further options. In the finder window for the cd-r where I have placed the file it reads 1.5 MB overflow in the status bar. Can someone tell me how to span the file over two cds?

As far as I know there's no way to span disks with Disk Utility or any other software that comes with your Mac. You have to buy Toast or some other 3rd party software.

You wrote "I only have 700 MB capacity compact discs in my possession." From that it's not clear to me whether or not you have a burner that will do DVDs. If you have it seems to me that it would be far simpler, not to mention a lot cheaper, to just get some blank DVDs to do the job.

Have you tried HELP in FINDER?  If you open HELP and enter 'displays' in the field in the upper right hand corner you will get a list of topics on setting up monitors.  Specifically read 'Setting up multiple displays to show the same image' and 'Setting up multiple displays as an extended desktop'.
    Ciao.

  • Application Still Stuck on my Finder Bar

I got dupped when I phoned Apple for a service call and was sent to some other country for "Tech help" in what I was told was the correct department.  They sold me what I thought was an Apple Service contract . . nope! I'm not sure what I paid for. But, they also told me I needed to get rid of Trend Micro and purchase their Virus Barrier anti virus program for Mac as it was the "best".  They then used LogMeIn to uninstall Trend Micro.  However, each time I start up my computer, MacBook Air XOS Lion 10.7.5, the little Trend Micro icon appears on the top of my screen in the Finder bar.  It has a yellow triangle with an exclaimation point in it.  My computer then freezes as it seems to be trying to scan for viruses at start up along with the new virus program.  The colored wheel shows up when I put my mouse over it.  Eventually, I'm able to click on the menu option to quit it, but it happens each time I start up.  Does anyone know how I can permanently delete this little icon?  There is no longer Trend Micro in my App Folder, so I can't go through the uninstall process again.  Help please!!

Sounds like you didn't actually call Apple. There are companies out there that mislead you into believing that they represent Apple when they really don't. See Beware of fake tech support.
It also sounds like the company you called did some inept fumbling around with your computer remotely. Trend Micro is a very different app than VirusBarrier, so it sounds like they may have actually installed two different anti-virus programs, which is a bad idea. (You should never have two different anti-virus programs doing active scanning at the same time, as that can cause problems.) Regarding the need for anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.
Unfortunately, at this point, the company you called has had access to your computer via LogMeIn. It is unknown at this point what they may have done, and unless you trust this company absolutely (which should not be the case given the circumstances), you should assume that your machine is compromised. Though unlikely, it's still entirely possible that they are watching every little thing you do. Worse, there's no anti-virus software out there that will detect all possible back door software. Anti-virus software is generally mostly concerned with detecting malware, not legit software that may have been installed and/or configured maliciously by someone with access to the computer.
If I were you, I would erase your hard drive and reinstall everything (the system and your apps) from scratch. The only thing that should be restored from backups is your documents... no system files, apps, settings files, etc.
You also should talk to your credit card company and see about disputing any charges made by the company you called.
