Extend my display

Hi need some help. I can't extend my display to a TV via HDMI. Where am I going wrong?Extend

If it is a 2011 or later MacBook Pro, you need a compatible with Thunderbolt adapter, or if it has an HDMI port, an HDMI 1.3 or better cable.  Not knowing the exact age of your Machine makes it difficult to determine what you need.

  • Can I get my dock to appear on the extended screen display?

I would like to have my dock appear on my extended screen display and my lap top screen. Is this possible?
The thing that is frusterating is when I click on my dock, i have to drag everything that it pulls up onto the extended screen. I would much rather just click on the dock and have it appear on my extended screen without me having to drag it over. If I cant have my dock on both screens, is there a way that I can make my external display be the primary display and my mb pro be the secondary display?

    Hi Scott,
If you want the dock on the side, rather than the bottom, you can have it on the right hand side of the right hand monitor, or the left hand side of the left hand monitor. One option, I guess would be to reconfigure things with the 24" as the primary screen, but to the left of the MBP, if you want the dock on the left. Probably not what you want for other reasons, but at least it would get the dock where you want it.
Another option might be to try the third party shareware application "Dock-it" , which allows you to create your own configurable "docks" in various locations. THis actually allows you to choose which monitor you want to locate any particular dock on, and allows placement on the sides of either or both. see http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/dockit.html
I'd been thinking about suggesting this app to Brett, too, but couldn't find the link at the time. I've been playing with it a bit since , and it certainly has some useful possibilities. The docks it creates are a little less intuitive than the Apple one, and a bit fussier to add things to, though.
    Cheers

  • Can I use my iPad mini to extend the display from my Macbook Air?

Is there a way to utilize my ipad mini wifi, to extend the display from my Macbook Air?

There is no need to charge it before you first use it.  You cannot run the battery too low as the system will shut the device off before that happens to protect the battery.
Generally speaking, your Lithium battery will have the longest useable life if you avoid deep cycles.  Since you can plug and unplug it as you wish, the best thing to do is just charge it up (however much) whenever it is convenient to do so (whether it is 10% discharged, or 20% or 50% - basically don't pay any attention to the battery level, just plug it in when it is convenient to do so to keep the battery topped up).  And try to avoid frequent deep cycles where you run it all the way or very near to the point it auto-shuts off.

  • 19" or 24" of Extended Monitor Display recommendation

    Hi,
Looking for a 19" or 20" or 24" of Extended Monitor Display for my new MacBook Pro.
    What's your recommendation?
Wish to grab some other brand instead Apple Cinema.
    *Hi-Res and WideScreen*
    Thanks!

The boogers are back. Power Supply was not the culprit.
However I had resolved Issue #2:
Another Issue is that so far, a few times when starting the computer in the morning the monitor will not come on. Instead, the white power light flickers in sequences of three. The third flicker stays on the longest.
    Resolution:
According to the monitor manual, the white flickers are a code. For two short flashes followed by a longer one, is indicative of a backlight issue on the display.
So Apple will need to replace or fix the display for the backlight issue.
As for the other issue I've noticed a few others have had similar issues with "The Blue Fuzzies", at the threads below:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3430273#3430273
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=706702&tstart=0
To update my original post, hovering the mouse over the affected areas does not produce a trailing effect anymore.
To temporarily fix either issue involves shutting down the monitor, and unplugging and replugging-in that odd connector on that small white power box that comes with the monitor, (the "DC" cable). (Which originally led me to believe the power supply was at fault.)
Though the monitor and the computer sits on a solid oak desk, I have recently discovered that when "The Blue Fuzzies" are occuring, a very slight bump on the table increases the amount of Fuzzies, or changes the pattern of which they are running. I discovered this when I sneezed.
So where I'm at now is querying anyone with a ati1900 card with a similar issue with "The Blue Fuzzies", as the other (white flickers code) will require replacing/fixing the monitor.
If the x1900 card is stable (none of TBF), I'd rather just get that when the monitor gets replaced.

  • How can i use my old iMac as a extended desktop display for my new iMac?

I recently purchased a 21.5 in iMac and wanted to use my old iMac as a extended desktop. My new iMac has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections while my old iMac has firewire (400 and 800), USB 2.0 and mini-DVI. Is this posible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

  • How to physically hook up for extended dual display

This was originally posted in another wrong topic section today, which was incorrect.
I have a flat panal PC (windows XP) as well as my iMac G5. I would like to hookup the iMac to the PC so that I can extend my PC Desktop onto the iMac. I have a Apple Video Adapter if that is of any help. If this is possible, what would be the physical hookup for this type of arrangement? Once that is done, I think I can get the displays working through the Display/Settings on the PC.
    Thanks

You can do the reverse, using ScreenRecycler mentioned above. That is, using the Windows PC as a second display for the iMac. It has some limitations, because you are using the network connection for the video. However, I do not know of any such program that works in the other direction.
The video port on the iMac is for output only. The only other way to get video into the iMac is using some type of USB interface device, but those are usually designed for capturing video, so it would probably be unsatisfactory, and for the cost of such as device, you could probably buy a low-end LCD display and have a real second screen connected using a real video port.

  • Extended view display for 2 monitors

I have set up a second monitor and I want to be able to have two files on the separate screens. I am not able to drag any application, file or mouse to the second screen. I am in extended display. Unsure as to what is blocking it and how to efficiently
be able to use both screens... Help !!!

Please try the methods mentioned in the following thread:

  • Long (extended?) display output of 'ps' command

    Hi, all
If the path of a command is long, the output is being cut of from the output of 'ps -ef' command. On HPUX, there is a 'x' option from ps for extended display format to fix the problem. From the man page of 'ps' of Solaris, I don't see similar option exist. Does anyone know similar option exist for Solaris? Thanks.

Using '/usr/ucb/ps auxw' prints a wider output, truncated to a maximum of 132 characters.
Using '/usr/ucb/ps auxww' prints the full command-line arguments with no truncation (something that /usr/bin/ps cannot do). This is fetched, if permissions allow, from /proc/<pid>/as.
If the values in the columns are large enough they can collide. For example:
    $ /usr/ucb/ps aux
USER PID %CPU %MEM SZ RSS TT S START TIME COMMAND
    user1 3132 5.2 4.33132422084 pts/4 S Feb 16 132:26 Xvnc :1 -desktop X
    user1 3153 1.2 2.93544414648 ? R Feb 16 21:45 gnome-terminal --s
    user1 16865 1.0 10.87992055464 pts/18 S Mar 02 42:46 /usr/sfw/bin/../li
    user1 3145 0.9 1.422216 7240 ? S Feb 16 17:37 metacity --sm-save
    user1 3143 0.5 0.3 7988 1568 ? S Feb 16 12:09 gnome-smproxy --sm
    user1 3159 0.4 1.425064 6996 ? S Feb 16 11:01 /usr/lib/wnck-appl
This can make both reading and postprocessing the values quite difficult.

  • Satellite L550 - Can I extend the display?

    Hello,
I was wondering if I can extend the desktop onto an external monitor? I need to be able to work on a large double screen desktop. I know the L550 has a VGA out, however - I have a feeling it can only be used to send desktop 1 to another display or duplicate.
If it makes any difference the model I am looking to buy is the L550-1C9 or L550-1CC
    Thanks :)

"switch between laptop LCD and external monitor very easy using FN+F5 key combination"
Switch between? I need to be able to use both internal & external displays to create one larger display.
I have to have one monitor for research while I use the other for writing. I need the 17" display as If I'm out somewhere
I could make-do sitting word & firefox together until I get back home.
The HDMI port is not necessary, however, even although it's not a requirement - I would like to have that option.

  • Seeing more than one application at once using extended desktop display

Hi, I have just bought a new dvi external monitor and connected it to my MBP. In extended mode I can't seem have one app open on the external screen and another app on the mbp screen - as soon as I open a new app, the existing one disappears even if I've already dragged it accross to the external monitor. Not sure if it is something to do with spaces but it's bugging me. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks

Depends on the apps, whether they are hidden, etc. You should be able to do what you are trying to do - I have Safari open on an external display, Word open on the internal display, for example.

  • HP Pavilion Notebook - 15 - P196na - Can I extend the display

Hi,I am not very computer literate, but I was hoping somebody could please tell me whether my laptop as detailed in the subject above can have an extended display to another monitor?I only have a HDMI input, so I purchased some VGA - HDMI leads, however all the screen says is check video display and it will not identify the other laptop. I attempted to follow the process on an online forum on another site, but ended up with a black screen. Whatever I did I couldnt get rid of the black screen and I have reset the computer in its entirety. I obviously don't want to do this again. Can anyone help?

What other laptop? Please explain exactly what hardware you are trying to connect here. You do not have HDMI input you have HDMI output so if you are trying to span the desktop across 2 laptops it is not going to work. You can hook a monitor up to your laptop using the HDMI port as output.

  • Extending the display duration of text

What property controls the duration a text will be displayed. Currently, I have a 10 second animation, and after adding the text it disappeared after 3 seconds. I have chosen a LiveType font (Iglow) and when I changed the direction property to Ping-Pong (in LiveFont Timing section), the text displayed for longer - which makes sense to me. The first character of a two character Logo disappeared at 5 seconds, and the second character disappeared at 6 seconds
This logo is for gardening segments, so what I'd like to have, is to have the logo appear, animate (rotation), and then have a flock of birds fly overhead, drop a special "package", where the XXX hits the logo causing it to tilt. Rain comes, sun comes out, and the plant grows - which lifts up the tilted end of the logo restoring it to horizontal position.
I have the birds flying overhead, dropping their special package, while the logo appears, rotates, and would have been hit by the bird dropping, but the text disappears from view.
I imagine this is a fairly simple thing, but have missed it when walking thru the properties, and even though I have some effect on the life of the text when I change the Direction property to Ping-Pong I don't really want to change the Direction property.
I'm using Motion 4, but suspect Motion 3 works the same in this particular area

    Patrick Sheffield wrote:
Instead of Ping-Pong - how about just a freeze?
LifeFonts are just animations and you'll generally want them to freeze after they've drawn themselves on...
    Patrick
I see, now, I can adjust the "hold Last" property in the LiveFont timing and it controls when the text disappears - as I think Mark Spencer is suggesting.
Is there another way to accomplish, or is this what you are suggesting as well?

  • Additional/Extended attributes display

    Hi -
Is there a way we can hide the attribute category "Category" thats visible on the Aditional Attributes page in Install base. Also can the display length of the value field be increased.
    Thanks,
    Amit

Oracle has confirmed that the category field can not be hidden and to increase the display length, they have given a patch that would increase the display from 15 to 50 characters. Further extension is not possible

  • Extending 27" Cinema Display A Great Distance

    Hey all,
I have purchased 2 cinema displays and I have my computer located about 100 feet away in a separate machine room. Normally i would buy a KVM extender to extend the display over Cat6. However since the LED cinema displays i have only have a Mini Dv Male as the only means of connection I've hit a bit of a road block. Can any one help or can any one point me to a female mini Dv adapter  or extender that is compatible with these Mac displays? Thanks!

    Sorry,
Should have been more clear. I meant Mini- Display Port not dv. I have a 27" Cinema Display. I am comming out of my mac pro via DVI to a Gefen KVM extender. So Essentially I have a DVI Output from my computer and the only way to hook up my particular Cinema Display is via the Mini DisplayPort. SO i need a Female Mini-Display Port  to DVI-D Male but i have yet to find anything.
