Extend number range on Material BOM item

Hi,
When displaying a material BOM via CS03 and looking at material tab. Each item is incremented by 10. We are currently nearing the end of this number range, ie we have a BOM which has a recipe with item number 9850. We have tested and determined that when we get to item number 9999 the next item reverts back to 0010, 0020 etc. This causes us great problems.
Is there a way to entend the number range past 9999, ie can we go from 9999 to 10000?
Thanks, Sinéad

  • OMX4 - FBN1 - Number range for Material document and FI document

47 - is for FI document number range in Material ledger FBN1.  OMX4 gives number range for Material document.  My question is how big the number range must be?  Since thousands of Materials involved, I couldn't imagin this?
Anybody knows, how to determine the size of no. ranges in Material Ledger configuration?  SAP simply says, check no. ranges whether it meets the requirement....
I don't expect an answer again, just check your business, how many transactions would be in a period, which is not quantifiable now?
I would like to understand this from somebody's experience of using insufficient or excessive no. ranges, especially in this area.
    Cheers,
    Ashok

What is the number range you are using? Year Dependent or Independent?
When you don't know the document number consumption pattern you should use Year dependent number range in both OMX4 & FBN1. Observing this for a month will give a rough Idea and observing for a Quarter will give you a fair Idea and the result for a year gives almost near to accurate consumption of number ranges.
The generation of documents is dependent on the number of materials and Profit centers involved. As much as possibe use Summarization at profit center level when posting to FI. This will reduce the number of documents and line items that are getting generated.

  • "Alphanumeric" number ranges for material matser

    Hi all,
What are the sequence of steps needed to create "Alphanumeric" number ranges for material matser. Can anyone explain me the steps.
    Thanks

    Hi,
To add to what Sridhar has said ....we have got 2 number ranges only...
    either internal or extenal.....
Better idea is to have internal only untill or unless it is at all required so.
It all depends on material type....
In internal it is more easy to maintain the ranges....but in case of extenal....lot more precaution is required.
Award if any thing answer you query .
    Thanks

  • Number range for material documents

    Hi SAP Gurus,
Can anyone please advise if we can reset number range for material documents once it reached to last number for existing number range ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manoj

    Hi,
If material numbering  reached to last number for existing number range, you can create Number Range Text Group and assign to your material type in following path
IMG -> Logistic ->General -> Material Master ->Basic Settings ->Material Type ->Define Number Range for each Material Type
    OR
    T.code:MMNR
    Lets example you have now:
    Number Range Text Group:01
    From Number:     1
    To Number     :19999999
Now you can create Now One Number Range Text Group
    Number Range Text Group:02
    From Number:20000000
    To Number     :29999999
Now assign Number Range Text Group to your material type in MMNR , {{by clicking group in menu, select maintaion->group->insert
    Number Range Text Group:02
    From Number:20000000
    To Number     :29999999
    and save}}.

  • Change material BOM / item / Class Recursion

I'm looking for a way to change the "recursiveness allowed" flags in the "Class Recursion" tab of a BOM item in transaction CS02. The flag corresponds with the fiels REKRS in table CLRK. No BAPI or FM found after half a day of searching. The CSAP_* function modules don't seem to cover this data.

    Hi,
This indicator is automatically set based on the conditions mentioned here [Class Recursiveness|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdata/en/ea/e9b54a4c7211d189520000e829fbbd/content.htm]. You can have look at fm CSAI_BOM_MAINTAIN which has that indicator FL_RECURSIVE. As the documentation says
The system recognizes recursiveness for a class item if the following objects are allocated to the class in the class item:
        The BOM header material
A material with a BOM which contains the BOM header material as an item
A class to which one of the materials described above is allocated
You can try logics like removing the header material from the item, so that recursiveness is avoided, May be by using CSAP_BOM_ITEM_MAINTAIN. Explode the existing BOM using CS_BOM_EXPLOSION and compare the header & item materials.

  • Number range in Material Master for document number

    Dear All,
I have an issue in that i have specified a number range (ex:5000000000-5111111111) for the year 2010.
If the number range finishes before the end of that year and i want to create a new number range. Is that possible
and how should i do that.
    thanks ,

you can not create new number range but can extend the number range
number range (ex:5000000000-5111111111) for the year 2010.
number range (ex:5000000000-5911111111) for the year 2010.

In that if you choose insert
Then a dialogue box will open
    In that give text and

First is for internal no range
second is for external no range with the check box ticked in grey

  • Change Number Range of Material Document

    Hi Guru,
We have a requirement to change material document number range that depend on movement type.
I have check in SPRO and read some document for material document number range.
I understand that this is a standard SAP.
    - GR from PO or Order         Number Rage will be 5000000000 to 5099999999 and Fiscal Year
    - GR Other, GI, Transfer      Number Rage will be 4900000000 to 4900000000 and Fiscal Year
My question is Can we change this number range?
I guess that we have to implement BADI or User-Exit to determine new number rage but I don't know how to do this.
Please kindly advice or guide me.
    Thank you very much.
    Saiyaman

    Hi,
Insted of Movemen ttype you can asign seperate number range to a transaction code follow the process as below
First u need to create seperate document type in OMR4  or OBF4,   then create a new number range in OMBT  assign your new number range to new created document type then in T. code OMBA  assign new created document type to the transaction code  so whenever u will create document with this Transaction code u can get new number range.

  • Number ranges for material document (migo) and inventory  documents

    Hi Gurus,
We need a different number ranges for goods receipt documents  and inventory documents because we have different company merged in to one box.Can any body tell me on what basis we differenciate the number ranges how to configure it.
If we take PO, we have different doc types and we assign number ranges to those documents. in case of Miro , it  is the single transaction code used by different companies and how to give different number ranges.
    Regards,
    Sri........

    Hi,
I think number ranges of inventory documents are on client level not on company code wise . because even though  your creating new document and assigned different number ranges for the documents but  these while assigning  ranges to T codes (MIGO or MIRO) you dont have option like company codes ( tcode OMBA) so number ranges for inventory documents are at client level  not at company code level.

  • Get planned order number(PLNUM) or requirement number(RSNUM) of a BOM item

    Hi everyone!
I have a material...viewing it at MD16..i can now see the stock/requirements list displayed in a tree. Now i have below hierarchy:
material 1       ----> has                planned order number
material 2  ------> has           requirement number
                 material 3  ------> has       planned order/requirement number
                 material 4  ------>  has       planned order/requirement number
material 5 ------> has       planned order
material 6 ------> has       planned order
using the planned order number of material 1 in the BOM, i was able to get the requirement number of material 2, what i want to know is how to get the requirement number of the next level under material 2...that is, the planned order/requirement number of material 3, material 4 ....
    thanks!

    I answered this myself.
    I used  MD_SALES_ORDER_STATUS_REPORT.

  • Lexicographic flag setup and material number range change

    Hi gurus,
    got the following situation:
    AS IS:
Tcode MMNR: Number range for material master part number: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA   to   ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ  (lenght 18, external assignment)
Tcode OMSL: Lexicographic flag IS NOT setup
Tcode OMS2: For all material types flag "External no. assignment w/o check" IS SETUP
Basically we can't create numeric only part numbers.
The new requirement is to be able to create numeric part numbers like:
    1234
    12345
    0123
01234  (where the leading zero is a significant character for the part number)
    By doing the following changes:
MMNR: change number range 000000000000000000  to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
OMSL: setup lexicographic AND leading zeros flag
OMS2: clear flag for External no. assignment w/o check
I see I do achieve the result: numeric part numbers can be created, leading zeros are managed in the correct way and all numeric part numbers are LEFT-aligned, so looking to MARA you would see part numbers like this:
    00012345
    012345
    012345V
    09CATALIST1
    0AFVAU0001
    12345
    23225V
    23243V
    2SIMBACK3210
I did already tried all the above changes in the quality system, then created a numeric part number and an alfanumeric part number, for both of them did create a PO, Inbound delivery, posted MIGO, created a sales order, outbound delivery, PGIed without any issue, stock was displayed and managed correctly by the system, same for material docs.
We already thought about BW, so in case we do the changes BW would be ok.
Apparently everything is fine so I should go for the production system BUT........  in my mind I'm thinking that OMSL Tcode is usually setup day 1 of an Sap project and then usually you forget it... I have the fear that even if everything looks fine (and Sap allows me to change the customizing), I'm going to muck up the system...
Have you ever had the same to do ?  I already saw posts similar to this one but already existing conditions were different so to me this case looks like unique so far..
Any help, suggestion, whatever will be highly appreciated, especially cause I have to take a decision by tomorrow morning
    Many thanks in advance !!
    Enrico

As you never had numeric numbers, it should not create a big problem.
I am working in a system with lexicographical setting in use.
But you have to keep in mind that your sort sequence is quite different to numeric numbers, like this:
    1
    10
    11
    12
    2
    3
    31
    311123
    32
    32012
    4
And you may get the one or other issue if you download material numbers to Excel, with wrong settings you will loose your leading zeros.
A similar effect happens most of the time if user not very familiar with Excel give you a file for an upload, as this often is prepared without leading zeros, which could cause a load to the wrong material if the remaining number would be a duplicate:
    0123 and 123
Of course is a selection by number range  not that easy as it is with numeric numbers.  Usingthe first example a range from 1 to 3 includes materials 10, 11 and  12 as well

  • Material type number range question

I want to have an interval for which I could have external naming both for numbers and for letters. I want to have the option to name the material eg 111111111 or aabbccddg or aa11bb11nnn.
I have created a group, I have a for external numbering  - from 00000000001 to 9999999999, but I cannot create another line for 00000000000a to zzzzzzzzzzz.
    How can I do it??
    Is it possible?
    Thank you

    Dear,
Go to transaction code MMNR create number range depends on ur material type.
    Enter the number range AAAA0000 - Z9999999.
And select the External number range flag.
    path: img>log general>material master>basic setting>material types>define number range for material types
For Internal Number range Standard SAP does not support for maintaining "Alphanumeric" number range. For that please consult to the ABAPu2019r.
    Internal number assignment:
If your company uses nonmnemonic keys, you do not enter a material number when creating a material master record. Instead, the system assigns a consecutive number to the material. This number is visible when you maintain the material master record.
Further options are provided by the following SAP Enhancements:
    SAP Enhancement MGA00002
This enhancement contains three customer exits that you can use for the following purposes:
To modify material numbers entered externally by users, for example, by appending a check digit. To assign material numbers internally by customer programs
    SAP Enhancement MGA00003
This enhancement allows you to edit the display of material numbers as required. For example, a material is assigned the number 123.
With this enhancement, you can define that the material number is displayed with, for example, the prefix MAT-, even though the number in the database is still 123.
I hope it will work for you.

  • Material doument number range

    Hi All
in our SAP system we have 2 company codes but material doument number range is same for both the company codes . how to set it at company code specific and / or Plant specific?
I have checked with T code OBH1 but it is related to FI doc types only. I need number range for material doument not for FI documents.
As per requirement from client - it is needed for easy traceability and audit purpose.
Is there user exit available for this ?
I dont understand why SAP has not provided this as a standard . Because practically every company or even plant needs different number range , for easy traceability and if any audit will go on auditor will like to see documents in sequence .
Hope u understand the issue .
    Bhushan
Note : I have posted the similar query earlier but there was not much satisfactory replies. and some one has posted reply to check with T code OBH1 . But its not useful

    Hi,,
GR  document Number ranges are Clent specific  and Yearly we need to maitain.
As per the standard SAP  is concern we can't go for Company code specific.
But in many big client like ABB  they have gone with a big development for this activities.
so convince the Client for the feasibility and extra cost invoilvement in the Making this big development using ABAP, and some Userexits.
We can't make any alternative solution using SAP  standard settings for this requirements
