Extend supported icon sizes for AIR Desktop Apps

Currently AIR Desktop Apps seem to only support a limited set of icon sizes (16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 128x128px).
It would be great to see bigger icon sizes (like 256x256 and 512x512px) being supported as well. For example, Windows7 does not display 128x128px icon size so the maximum icon size for AIR apps on Windows is currently 48x48px (which actually is pretty small and results in pixelated icons).
Can you please consider the option of extending supported icon sizes?

Feature request for this issue: Bug#3844899 - Adobe AIR does not support 256x256 desktop icons on Windows Vista, 7 or 8.x

    How do I get an Adobe Air Desktop App to notify user that a URLRequest ".txt" file has been updated? via blinking system tray icon or something.
    New to Air and need someone to point me in the right direction. I have been searching web for hours and probably not asking the question right.
    I have a very simple Desktop App that just loads a text file from a web location into a dynamic text field at a set timer. it just repeats this action on the timer. right now every 5 minutes
    What would the actionscript be to tell the Air App to look at the date or time stamp of the ".txt" file and notify user if its new?
    Thanks

  • Include Air ( desktop app ) inside Mobile app permited by Apple / Android?

    Include Air ( desktop app ) inside Mobile app permited by apple / android?
    This is my question....:
    I need a "viewer" app run in a desktop machine... via p2p... ( done and working )
    I will like to include it in my iOS / Android Release, an then by example move it to the documents folder.
    Run iTunes and then copy the file from the shared document folder.
    Is this permited by apple / android / adobe ?
    Thanks....

    just tracing some kind of tests I'm doing.
    A couple of hours ago I left working 2 instances of my Application, leaving alone this computer: one instance is the Mac desktop version and the other one is the Web version. In this case both versions were running on the same computer (an iMac with OS X Mavericks):
    1) the AIR/Mac version have been recompiled yesterday with the new AIR4(.0.0.1619 - AIR 3.8 is used to fall in a equivalent way - no changes)
    2) the Web version have been compiled targeting FP 11.8 and it is running on Chrome browser with PepperFlash NOT disabled (which reports version MAC 13.0.0.80, the latest)
    I left working both the Mac and the Web versions of the Application opened on the pc screen (= not minimized) but kept totally behind some Terminal/ssh windows (= not on OS focus and the system is not asked to update any screen area of the app for sure).
    I came back after about 2 hours and I got the browser version connected&running (but it is not a rule) and I also found the AIR-based Mac version disconnected (uau, usually I found the app disconnected but with the screen freezed at last user look ->) which rapidly reconnects upon my click on the Apple dock icon (bring to front).
    Why these different behaviours? I ask to myself.
    The two versions of the software are TOTALLY the SAME application: except for the first Flash file (a 24kb swf file for the Web version and a 170kb dmg file for the Mac version), basically a platform-dependent loader, both versions loads the same remote swf modules. Of course t is AIR (or my first Flash file?).
    I attach the source code of the Mac version of the [first file] AIR-based application at the following url:

  • AIR desktop app installation prob

    Gidday
    I'm having trouble getting my AIR desktop app (AIR2.5 with a self-signed certificate) to do auto updates.  I've had it updating fine in the past, but now get the following message:
    "This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance."
    Here's my method when I test the installation:
    - publish a new AIR file using the SAME version number as the currently released app eg 1.017
    - install it on my local machine
    - publish a new AIR file with an incremented version number, in this case 1.018
    - set my text file that the app checks online for updates to contain 1.018
    - upload 1.018 AIR file to my site
    - run the desktop app (version 1.017).  It successfully detects there's a new version, and downloads it.
    - it starts to install, and then I get the error
    I've researched this all afternoon, and have found articles mainly talking about expired certificates.  So I created a new certificate, and the problem still occurs.
    Also, I've tried uninstalling my app from my local machine, but I still get the installation error.
    Any ideas how to rectify this, so that I can continue using auto updating rather than force people to uninstall and download the new version for installation?
    Thanks for your help.

    Nevermind - the txt file that contains the version number and the url for the updater has the url for my live site, not my test one, so I changed it , and it installed fine.

  • Pass parameter to new view in air desktop app

    Hi Guys,
    Have developed a mobile app that uses this code .....
    public function generalList_ChangeHandler(event:IndexChangeEvent):void
    navigator.pushView(Detail, list.selectedItem);
    .... to pass data from a list item that the user clicks to a new view called Detail.
    This is a very common requirement. ie  Scroll a list, and then click on an item to go to a new view where the
    details about the item selected are rendered.
    ..but, I cannot see how to do this in a classic air desktop app.
    It must be pretty simple but it is not im Tour de Flex and I can't find a solution on the web.
    What would the equivalent code for an air app please?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Oh, I see.
    Your right if I remember correctly you implemented your own version of a ViewNavigator for your AIR application.
    If you want to use the mobile components in your AIR application you need to add the swc to your project 'mobilecomponents.swc'.
    You do this right click project->propertie, then select Flex Build Path and focus on the Library Path tab. Then click "Add SWC" and browse to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder Burrito\sdks\4.5.0\frameworks\libs\mobile' and select the mobilecomponents.swc.
    That should allow you to leverage the ViewNavigator in your AIR application. However, as your AIR app is not a MoblieApplication you will have to instanciate your own instance of ViewNavigator to use and push views to.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to launch an Air desktop app from a second Air desktop app?

    Hi,
    Is there a way to launch an Air desktop app from a second Air desktop app?
    I'm using Air 4 with Flash CS 6 on Windows.
    Thanks

    According to Adobe documentation, AIR doesn't allow you to launch one application using another on desktop. The best bet that I could find at the moment would be to use the File.openWithDefaultAppilcation() function and open a file(like a .doc or .txt file) that has an AIR app set as the default application to use for X filetype. Unfortunately, launching app(.exe, .app, etc) files directly is not allowed. Probably for safety/security reasons. You might be able to get around that with a Native Extension though. Below is a link to the File.openWithDefaultApplication() method which includes a table of all the filetypes not allowed. Tried messing around with some ways around it, but the best I could do was open a new Finder window(testing on a Mac) and highlight the file. The code below assumes that both AIR apps are installed in the same app directory. Not sure how it would work on Windows but the result might be the same. For Mac, no special characters or anything was needed even though the app I was trying to open had spaces in the filename.
    var filePath:String = "file://" + File.applicationDirectory.nativePath + "/App to highlight.app";
    navigateToURL(new URLRequest(filePath));

  • Windows App Certification Toolkit fails on Certification requirements for Windows desktop apps Point 5.5

    Using the latest Version 3.4 of Windows App Certification Toolkit to check Windows 8.1 compatibility our Installer was not approved on:
    Certification requirements for Windows desktop apps
    5.5 Your app installer must create the correct registry entries to allow successful detection and uninstalls
    But all necessary settings are done and after the installation of our application we will find all settings in the registry.
    We use an MSI Installer embedded in a bootstrapper exe. The MSI Installer is made with the WiX Toolset V3.6.
    The same Application Installer got approved on November, 2014.
    We checked this issue against the latest version of MSThreatModelingToolkit installer which also was made with WiX toolset and it fails, too.
    So is there a higher restriction or do we miss anything?

    Hi Wibudev,
    I would suggest you to double check if you have miss something in registry, per documentation mentioned, the installation module must create the following registry entries during installation:
    DisplayName
    InstallLocation
    Publisher
    UninstallString
    VersionMajor or MajorVersion
    VersionMinor or MinorVersion
    WACK 3.4 is the latest version, I don't think there would be any higher restriction but I will recommend you to test with another computer to see if the validate fails again. Sometimes the issue could be on the PC environment.

    Can we implement site catalyst for Remote desktop app like MS dynamics NAV?

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Does this happens for this particular application?
    For a test you can publish Notepad\WordPad as RemoteApp and check whether facing same issue. Please check the result and let us know. If it’s working normally then might seems there is some configuration issue with MS Dynamics App.
    Does this happens for all user or specific users?
    Which version of RDP Client you are using for client system?
    Try to install RDP 8.1 for better feature.

    Hello,

  • Adobe AIR desktop app with an embedded runtime

    Hi,
    Does an Adobe AIR desktop app with an embedded runtime (standalone/portable)  that got published on Windows work on a Mac too?
    Thanks

    No, you need to compile a "bundle" with ADT on each platform. On Windows it creates a directory with an .exe and the AIR runtime. On OS X it creates a .app file.

  • Using FlexNativeMenu in AIR desktop app

    Hello, I am having trouble using the FlexNativeMenu component in an AIR desktop app...
    It seems the syntax has changed since previous versions of Flex, so I'm not sure how to get this to work.
    I have my menu items / data provider as:
    [Bindable]
    private var menubarXML:XMLList =
    <>
    <menuitem label="File" data="top">
    <menuitem label="Exit" data="QUIT"/>
      </menuitem>
      <menuitem label="View" data="top">
    <menuitem label="MenuItem1" data="mi1"/>
    </menuitem>
      <menuitem label="Help" data="top">
    <menuitem label="Overview" type="check" data="OVERVIEW"  />
      </menuitem>
    </>;
    And then I tried to set the menu as such in the MXML:
    <mx:Menu>
    <mx:FlexNativeMenu id="rrMenu" showRoot="false"
       labelField="@label" dataProvider="{menubarXML}"
       itemClick="menuHandler(event);" />
    </mx:Menu>
    This didn't give an error, but shows nothing when I run the program.
    So I tried just FlexNativeMenu by itself, but this tells me that it must be placed in Declarations instead of the main stage. So I moved it to Declarations, but it still shows no menu bar...

    Hello,
    You didn't mention which version of Flex you're using, but I suspect it might be 4.5.  If so, please see if this helps:
    Creating an application or window menu
    Thanks,

  • What is the default icon size for macbook pro 13 inch?

    I have the 13 inch macbook pro, its not the retina. What is the default icon size for it? I accidently changed it on the show view options.

    The default size is not related to the Mac Model, it's related to the OS X version. For Snow Leopard it's 48x48 pixels.
    For Lion and Mountain Lion it's 64x64.
    You can choose the size that is right for you. I typically use either 32x32 or 36x36. Some prefer larger some prefer smaller. It's up to you.
    I've always found the default sizes to be too big for my taste.

  • Updated icon sizes for Android?

    Hi,
    What are the current icon size requirements for Andriod Apps? I'm aware of the following link link, Adobe AIR * Application icons, however when compared to the current Icon style guide provided by Google, the data seems a bit out of date. The Google links is: Iconography | Android Developers
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

    What is probably happening is that your icon cache is corrupt. Searching online, I found many different ways to resolve this issue and none of them "official" from Microsoft, so I am hesitant to recommend any one way to rebuild your icon cache. However, all I did to resolve this was delete C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\IconCache.db and restart my system. The IconCache.db was rebuilt and the correct icon shows for larger sizes rather than the default. It seems that the first icon you view at the medium/large size gets stuck in the IconCache. For instance, I changed my icon before viewing it at a larger size (never saw the CVI icon) and the icon I used was the one stuck for the medium/large size.I don't think it will be an issue on a target system because you will not be changing the icon one you distribute the application.
    It is not clear to me if this is an issue with a Windows bug (I did see similar reports on various forums, but nothing official), with our icon editor, or with the way CVI attaches icons to executables. I have filed bug report 354481 to investigate this issue.
