Extended Analytics takes than twice as long to extract in version 11.1.2.1

How can I track this issue down and resolve it? Using the same UDL files for Extended Analytics in both systems, a full extract from System 9 takes about 30 minutes, while System 11 takes about 80 minutes to create the Star Schema. The target database is on the local SQL server (same one as HFM). Also verified the same issue exists when extracting to a remote SQL server as well.

I entered an SR for this issue. In the EPM_Admin guide on pg 188 there are registry settings listed for Extended Analytics. Specifically EAUseODBC. When set to 1, my extracts are fast but do not allow me to create star schema after metadata update. So until it is completely resolved, I have to "flip the switch" to 0 after metadata change, have the users create their star schemas, then flip it back to 1 and then they can run star schema updates in a reasonable amount of time again. Hopefully they will be able to resolve this bug in a future patch.

IDVD 6 encoded takes twice as long as iDVD 5?

I did a quick search of archives but if this has been answered and I missed it, I apologize.
I tried upgrading to iLife 6 (since this computer was purchased in December it came with iLife 5). Even using the identical menus I used from iDVD 5 in iDVD 6, encoding times are -at least- double in iDVD 6. To confirm this I deleted iLife 6 and reinstalled iLife 5 and encoded the same projects in iDVD 5 and the time difference really is a factor of 2! I tried the usual: repair permissions, installed the latest updates to iDVD 6 but the differenence remains with iDVD 6 taking twice as long to encode the same project.
Is this consistent with others' experiences?
Is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks John, the old discussion was helpful. It seems that others have found iDVD 6 to be a dog on non-Intel Macs as well and, in some cases, experienced even worse than a 100% slowdown if I read some of the posts correctly.
I hate to think that -this- is how Apple is claiming that Intel Macs are so much faster, by creating Universal Apps that run terribly on non-Intel Macs! My computer is a currently shipping model (I was stupid enough to believe the story that that Intel Pro machines wouldn't be released until 2007). If Apple software isn't optimized for it's own shipping hardware, which seems to be the case... sorry to digress
Anyway, I'll try to have some specific comparison results later after I reinstall 6. I checked and iDVD 5 was running consistently at 230-240% CPU usage with peaks of 270% so it is doing a good job of using the multiple processors (processor performance set to "automatic"). It'll be interesting to see what iDVD 6 does in that regard.

Speedgrade FX freeze rendering or take up to 4x longer to render than Magic Bullet Looks

I've found that using a lumetri "preset" on a clip, the clip is played back beautifully in real time, however, when using my own speedgrade looks (with 2-3 looks layers) the clip plays back choppy (which is normal as it happens with magic bullet looks). But.... when it comes time to render... The sequence graded with Magic Bullet Looks takes as long as it always has in CS6, while the same sequence graded with my Speedgrade presets takes up to 4x longer and sometimes even freezes (causing an unknown error) both in Encoder CC and when exporting straight out of PPro CC....

True... an oversight of a first time poster... Exporting is exactly what I meant... as a matter of fact regarding rendering int he timeline... ... when applying the Magic Bullet effect, you get the red bar and you can render and then you're all set... with the speed grade (presets or my own) it just remains with the yellow bar and plays a bit choppy, some effects more than others, but when it's time to export that's when it either does it extremely slow, freezes or displays the unknown error message...
I do like being able to create these looks with speedgrade and i thought it was an awesome step forward, but i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong as i don't think they would design it to take so much longer to export than MBL...

Yes. I don't have the version you pay for. I also tried the free version
of EchoSign. Maybe that caused the problem.

Issue with Extended Analytics

I have an entity(say A) which is a shared member across 2 hierarchies. The immediate parent for this entity is different across both the hierarchies (say X and Y). The default parent is X.
I am using Extended Analytics to extract the adjustment values of A(both entity currency adjustments and parent currency adjustments). A and X are in USD and Y is in AUD.
So, in Extended Analytics, I need to be able to select the exact parent-child combination to get the values. But in the parent ID column, I am always getting a value of -1 which means Default member not in Use.
Has anyone faced this issue before? Am I going wrong somewhere?

Maybe it contains empty descriptions under the section

Why is Lion so slow? Everything takes 2-3X as long as before and iTunes won't play most of my movies.

Got Lion. Now, opening a movie with Quicktime takes 10 seconds, opening ANY application takes twice as long as before, and iTunes won't play most of my movies that used to play in previous versions of iTunes. I'm frustrated. Even the web is markedly slower with pages taking 5-6 seconds to load up (and they are simple pages sans videos).
What gives? Any solutions? Anyone having similar issues?
The ONLY thing that took less time was Disk Utility...it ran in 4 minutes when it used to take 7--8 minutes.

Lion is much more demanding on memory. It is almost unusable on my computers that have 2 gig of memory. On the macbook air I am typing this from, it is using 1.5 Gig of memory out of 2 gig. Anything like playing a movie is going to be quite compromised. SL used about 400 MB for normal low-demand operations. The memory is soldered on in this laptop, so I am screwed, but it is fairly cheap and easy to add memory to most others. OWC is a good place to look. Max it out. I think your iMac can take 6 GB.

HFM Extended Analytics Extract - Only for Data at Review Level 6 and up?

Hello, I have a requirement to Extract Data from HFM as Flat Files in order for them to be picked up by a separate process.
In order to do this I have used Extended Analytics to create the extracts I require.
The issue I have is that users are only supposed to be able to extract data that has been approved up to Review Level 6 and above, and at the moment they can choose any POV regardless of the Review Level the combination of the 4 dimensions has.
Is there a recommended or easy way to achieve this?
I have looked into a few possibilities including:
1. Restricting the LOV drop-downs (via re-creating metadata via a custom script)
2. Having a process "catch" the fact that the POV is not approved upon export (perhaps using a taskflow with a "Process Management Action" stage, or by creating a Rule that can be applied to the EA Exract?)
3. Including in the Extracted data file a "header" row with the POV Review Level value (so the next process in the chain can handle validating this)
4. A custom API method
I am quite in-experienced with HFM so any advice or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Doesn't EIS require a parent-child/recrusive table for the dimensions? If it could read HFM EA's tables as they are natively organized, then I guess EIS would be an approach although unfortunately it is not possible in the environment in question. I am at a loss as to why HFM EA doesn't output tables as required for Essbase, especially given the Essbase option in exporting, but it is what it is.
I got an answer over on Network54 suggesting how to build those tables in Oracle. Again, unfortunately, I'm in a SS 2000 environment so that means extra work for my SQL resource as I think it requires a stored procedure (am not, never have, and will likely never claim to have more than a 'SELECT * FROM' level of SQL knowledge) but at least it's a start.
The original thought I had was to get these Essbase-ready parent-child dimension tables and build the cubes from them. Are you interested in EIS because it has better automation?

Why do eg. films, when loaded onto iTunes 9 become twice as long?

When I load videos such as films and some music videos, they become twice as long on iTunes 9. However, the actual file is the same length. This did not happen in iTunes 8.
I think this only happens with files loaded over a certain length (as this mostly happens with films).
Is this a bug?

I dislike every iteration of iTunes more & more, in fact almost every iteration of any Apple App is worse than the one before, it's also sad that Apple is evermore closing off the really good 3rd party Apps, I use Audion since Apple bout SoundHam Mp & totally ruinrd it...

As far as backups go, I gave up on the sillyTime Machine, it seemeed to do it's stuff, but I could never get a good restore!
Every other Backup App I have, (about a dozen or more), always work.
Never bought anything on iTunes, nor am I likely ever to do so.

Back to your losses, How sure are you the of the Disk integrity?
Could be many things, we should start with this...

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Is there any way that I can make my phone ring more than twice???
It seems that I never get to it quick enough as it only rings for a short while and I end up ringing that person back, so consequently costing me a call each time. I have gone into settings but just can't find a way to extend the amount of rings.

Ever since I updated to Firefox 7.0.1, it's takin twice as long for Mozilla to open and for websites to load. It's also started crashing more often. Is there anyway to revert back to the older versions?? I never had a problem with those..

After the update to the newest version of Mozilla Firefox (7.0.1), it's taken the program twice as long to open and even more time for pages to load. I've also gotten error messages saying that the page can't be loaded, even though everything else I use (Skype, etc) is running fine and connected to the internet. I didn't have these issues with the older versions of Mozilla, so please put out a patch or something soon. Or if I could revert to an older version of Mozilla, I'd be just as happy.

When I view the music on my iPhone in iTunes, how do I view this by album, rather than in a long list of songs? When I view the music stored on my iMac, I get a choice to view by Songs, Artists, Albums, Composers, etc. But I don't get any choice with the music on my iPhone.
Its really hard to manage the music on my iPhone. I want to quickly remove albums and add new ones.

Create a playlist, add/delete albums and sync this playlist.
You don't need to manually manage the iPhone music to do this.

I am trying to figure out where the Flat file extract is placed once the Extract is complete. I have verified that I am connecting to HFM and the log file indicates all the steps in the application have completed successfully.
Where does the FLATFILE get saved/output when using the API?
Ultimate goal is to create a flat file through an automated process which can be picked up by a third party application.

In the latest version, Currently the data from HFM can be exported only in UNICODE format. There is a defect filed to Oracle for the same.
At present the only workaround is to change the file encoding after it has been extracted, using third party software.
For example, the extracted file can be opened using Windows Notepad and then desired encoding format can be selected when the file is saved using option Save As.
