Extended desktop iMac - Air

Hello!
I have iMac (Intel - Dual Core) and Macbook Air. Can you please tell me how can i connect them together to have extended desktop.
Any help appriciated.
Kind regards.

Sorry, you can't do what you're asking. Neither have any way of taking a video in signal.
I believe that some recent 27" iMacs may be able to do so, but nothing else as yet.
You'll need a seperate monitor. The iMac will only Mirror on another monitor unless it's newer than your description suggests; the MBA will probably be able to use extended desktop, but you'll still need a stand-alone monitor (or TV).
That connects to the mini-DVI port with apropriate adapter cables for the device used.

  • Extended desktop iMac to iMac

Hello, I have two 20inch Intel iMacs at work and I'd like to use one as my main machine and use one in extended desktop mode. Is it possible to just use the screen of the other iMac? If so, how would I go about hooking it up?
    Thank you,

  • I cannot get my iMac to connect to my macbook via Thunderbolt to use my laptop as an extended desktop

I am trying to connect my iMac 21.5" desktop to my macbook pro via Thunderbolt cable so that I can use my laptop as an extended desktop. I have tried using detect displays to get it to show up and nothing happens. I've tried doing command + F2 to make it a targeted display, but the only thing I can get to happen is my iMac will mirror my Macbook and that's not what I want. No matter what I have tried it hasn't worked. I have tried turning both computers off and I have a brand new thunderbolt cable. I've updated all the software. Is there anything else I'm missing??
    I'm running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
    Thank you !

We've already done all of that. And we used the same thunderbolt cable to connect two iMac's and that worked totally fine doing the Command+ F2. I don't understand why we can't get the macbook to do the same.

  • How can i use my old iMac as a extended desktop display for my new iMac?

I recently purchased a 21.5 in iMac and wanted to use my old iMac as a extended desktop. My new iMac has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections while my old iMac has firewire (400 and 800), USB 2.0 and mini-DVI. Is this posible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

  • Allow an extended desktop for imac G5 using OS X 10.3

I got a new display for Christmas that I connected to my imac G5 using a mini VGA, which i intend to use as an extended desktop. I went to System preferences and they said if I don't have an extended desktop option, that means my computer can only display a mirror image on the new monitor.
Is there anyway I can modify my imac to treat the new display as an extended desktop instead of just mirroring the image?

  • 24"iMac....adding second monitor...... mirror or extended desktop?

I have a new 24 inch aluminum iMac.
I also have a year old 23 inch Apple Cinema display that I was thinking of adding as a second display.
If I did, would that mirror my existing display, or would it allow me to extend the desktop that I already have?
I would like to extend the desktop. If I could do that, what connector would I need to get to make that happen?
Thanks for the help and advice.

You will be able to choose mirroring or extended desktop in the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference.
You will need a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter

If the display is the old 23" with the plastic case and ADC, you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • IMac G5 intel core duo extended desktop?

I never really got a clear answer on this by searching google. Can I add another monitor to my iMac and make it extended desktop without adding any programs?

    Hi FRD714
Yes, all you need is the correct Mini-DVI adapter and cable and you can connect up and use just about any display, projector or TV. The following Apple article will help you to determine which adapter you need and briefly explains the Mirrored and Extended Desktop features.

  • IMac 27" extended desktop problems

    Hi!
I own a 2011 iMac 27" and I am having issues using a Samsung SyncMaster T240M display as extended desktop.
It works fine when I am just using the computer for a while, but if the displays go to sleep mode, when I return to the computer the iMac display restores right away but then the Samsung display starts to go on and off repeatedly until it finally stays on, but then all my applications are on the iMac display.
It is pretty much like what would happen if I had unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in.
Is there a way to fix this or do I just have to live with that? Has anyone experienced the same problem with other displays? Maybe this Samsung display is not syncing well with the iMac?
Anyway, any help will be very much appreciated.
    See you,
    JP

If the machine is covered by warranty or even better by AppleCare then contact AppleCare. They will be able to do in-home service if you are within 50 miles of an AASP. You will have to request this service but they will do it.

  • IMac G5 & extended Desktop

Is it possible to unlock the Extended Desktop on an iMac G5 (in order to use an extra connected display), since it is available on the same MacOS X used on laptops Powerbooks/Macbooks and main CPU's like Power Macs ?
