  • Extended displays

When attempting to display an image across both of my displays, on my Powermac G5. I don't have the option of "Extended" when entering the Displays/Arrangement window, I only have "Mirror Displays"
So, how do I go about displaying the one image across both displays?
    Cheers
    Nev

Your system specs have mysteriously changed since your last post...
Do you have Leopard OS or ???
There is a mirrored display option available. If you do not choose the mirrored display option you are in effect choosing the non-mirrored display option which is coincidentally the extended display option. Hardly what one would consider confusing but to alleviate the potential confusion it may help to consult the user manual. Finder/Help/Mac Help/Search/extended display/answer.

  • HT5019 How do I get extended display mode on two monitors off a MB?

I've tried to find answers on other threads but no luck. Is it possible to connect two monitors to a 2008 unibody MB (mavericks) to use extended display? I've never had a problem with using one monitor (mini dvi to vga) as an extended display and now I'd like to add a second monitor via a vga splitter. I thought upgrading to mavericks would solve this but no luck. It's only letting me mirror displays. The "arrangement" option in display prefs not available.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I never for one second thought this would be so complicated.

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • How to create a 'parallel' extended display through Apple TV Airplay

    Dear all,
I'm a relatively new Mac user and have not been able to find an answer to my question by looking up key words in Google or here, so apologies if this has been answered before.
Basically, I would like to know how I can project a video file or a film/TV series I am watching (for example, a video playing in VLC or a film streaming from my subscription to Amazon Prime Instant Video website, open in a browser) onto my Toshiba TV, via Apple TV airplay - whilst still being able to work on a separate window/desktop on my MacBook Air.
As a PC user slowly converting to Mac, I know how to do this on a PC by using the Windows logo key +P shortcut, choosing 'Extend' instead of 'Duplicate' and then dragging whatever video source I want to watch into the extended desktop screen being projected on my TV. I've tried doing this on the Mac by
using the multiple desktops in Mission Control (with no success, as Airplay obviously just mirrors what I'm doing on my screen onto the TV, i.e. switching from desktop to desktop as I do on the computer), or
by clicking 'Extend Desktop' instead of the automatic 'Mirror Built-in Display' on the Airplay icon on the menu bar and then dragging the browser into the extended display on the TV and hitting the 'Full screen' button of the video itself. However, as soon as I do this and click or type anything on my computer desktop, the video automatically minimizes and all I'm left with on the TV display is the browser with the initial smaller version of the film playing within it. In the 'View' tab, I've tried switching Firefox/Safari to 'Full screen' before making the video 'Full screen' too, but again, as soon as I touch anything back on my Mac desktop it minimizes. I've noticed Chrome has an 'Enter Presentation Mode' option available in the 'View' tab, which leaves the video playing full screen, but with a grey bar at the top (which is visually annoying, but still closer to what I'm looking for). Similarly, if I try to drag a video file playing in VLC, as soon as I hit the full screen button, the desktop I'm using on the Mac goes black even though I can still move the cursor on it.
I'm clearly missing a step somewhere, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a prolific multitasker!

    Hi _MicMacs_,
It sounds like you've been on the right track in trying to sort out this issue. I'm a bit unclear on what you are describing when you say it works initially, but then immediately reverts when you click back on something in your primary display. You may want to try sizing the window to the display instead of using the full screen option (two opposing diagonal arrows), though this will leave the window border around the screen. • Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • X61 Extended Display - reconnect issue - Ctrl+F7 is NOT available when I reconnect to monitor

    I use an X61 running XP SP2.
When I am at my desk, I connect the laptop to my 24" monitor via VGA cable.
Via Ctrl+F7, I can modify my display settings and receive options such as:
    - Notebook only
    - Same display
    - Extended display
All of these work fine.  However, just recently, after I disconnect (either using Ctrl+F7 or simply unplugging the VGA connector - both end up with the same result) and later try to re-connect, when I press Ctrl+F7, no menu option appears.
When I go to Control Panel | Display, I can 'see' the monitor is connected and I can 'extend' display to the desktop monitor BUT cannot set-up 'same display' from here.
The only option that works is to restart the system and then Ctrl+F7 works fine again.
I do not believe that I have made any changes to the system that would warrant this change (however, there may have been a recent automatic MS XP update that was loaded).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?  Do I need to update anything related to the system?

Win 7 can't shut down, it reboot PC right after it has shut down!
I've tried the following before and it worked for once only ...
    Step 1:
Try this:  Press (Windows Key) + R (keyboard key) ... the Windows key is between the Ctrl and Alt key. SO press Windows (Start) key + R key to bring up the "RUN" menu.
    Step 2:
In the "RUN" menu, type in "regedit", then press the Enter key
    Step 3:
In the regedit, find and search by this keyword: "PowerdownAfterShutdown" ... it should be located in:
    Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
But once I've tried to manually browse to the above location and couldn't find any "Winlogon" in it, not until I used the find and search feature!
    Step 4:
Double Click on "PowerdownAfterShutdown" to bring up it's entry menu.
    Then,
Change it to "0" if it is "1" OR
Change it to "1" if it is "0".
      I found it's "0" before I changed it to 1.
    And hit the Enter key.
    Step 5:
Then restart the computer. Once it has reboot the PC to Windows' desktop, shut it down again. It should be able to shut down properly now and then ... NEVER!
    Here's how to "NUT" down:
Look for "ShutdownWithoutLogon" in the regedit, set it to "1"
also set "PowerdownAfterShutdown" to "1" as well.
Each time you want to shut down PC, you need to log off first. Then at the log in/off screen, to the bottom right corner there is a SHUT DOWN button, mouse click it to shut down PC! That works for hell !

  • IMac Mirrored vs Extended Display

    Hello,
I have a 24 inch IMAC (mid 2007...white border vice platinum) and the screen has been damaged. It has a virtual shatter across the screen, so I can't see anything on the screen. I connected it to my Plasma, but it appears to be in extended display mode. Is there something I can do on the keyboard to change the setting, or can someone give me "a step by step" button configuration, to access the options menu...keeping in mind that I can't see what I am doing? Help Please...

    here is the source..
sorry both are TFT but difference is 6 and 8 bit..
Apple hasn’t changed the iMac’s glossy screen. While the 24in iMac has an 8-bit widescreen TFT active-matrix LCD that displays millions of colours, the 20in models use 6-bit widescreen TFT active-matrix LCDs, achieving millions of colours by dithering. And like the previous 20in models, the new 20in iMacs show strong colour and contrast shifts when viewed at an angle instead of straight on.

  • Extended desktop option with win xp

When using bootcamp and winxp (have to because of the software) I am unable to get the 2nd monitor to run (works fine when i boot under mac os) I'm using a macbook pro with the ati 1600x card. does anyone have any ideas about how to enable the extended desktop option (ive been in the display under control panel in winxp and checked the enable this monitor to be used as extended tab) I think it's a problem with the ati driver but don't really know how to about resolving. thanks

Solved, had to play around with the ATI master screen and specifically "enabling" the right combination of displays.works perfect now in winxp and mac os.

  • Can not mirror display, option is available

I have a Mac mini with OS X Server that I access over my network using screen sharing. There is no monitor connected to it. However, I see the option to do AirPlay minor mirroring.
I got an AppleTV and connected it to a TV I use in my office. If I screen share the server, I can now do a Connect via AirPlay to the AppleTV device. I do so and the screen goes black indicating it is connected and the AirPlay icon turns blue. However, the Mac mini's desktop does not appear. Screen stays black. If I look under the AirPlay, there are two options, "Mirror Unknown Display" and "Extend Desktop"
Extend Desktop is checked and Mirror Unknown Display is black and available. But if I select it, it does not work. The checkmark never jumps to Mirror Unknown Display and stays on Extend Display. I can not get the Mac mini's desktop to appear via Airplay.
Is this possible to do so I can remotely use the AppleTV via airplay without a physical monitor being attached to the Mac mini? I can do so using screen share and it works fine. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

99% sure you can't mirror an absent monitor to the appletv

  • Extended display with my MacBook?

Can I use an extended display with my MacBook?
I bought the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter" and hooked it up to a standard Dell monitor. When I try to set up the extended monitor in System preferences/hardware/displays, I do not see the expected "arrange multiple display" option and when I search for extended displays, I get a message that says:
"The Arrangement tab of Displays preferences is hidden because you only have a single display attached to this computer."

I would recommend this article named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573.

  • T60 running Windows 8 won't extend display to monitor

    Hello,
I checked the forums but couldn't find a similar topic.
I have a T60 coming up on it's 8th birthday. About a year and a half ago I installed windows 8. Just recently I tried to extend my work space to a second VGA monitor, in addition to the T60's LCD, in a dual-monitor configuration. I've seen this done before on T60 loaded with XP or Vista.
If I connect a VGA monitor, it will mirror my LCD screen fine on the monitor. But when I try Ctrl-F7 to toggle display options, a message comes up from the right saying, "Second Screen: Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
Not my first time to the rodeo. I went to Device Manager and learned that my ATI display driver had been replaced with "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." I assume this is some kind of generic driver microsoft pushed out to make older components compatible with Windows 8. So I figured I'd download the driver from AMD.
I actually don't remember the graphic card I have, but searching for my T60 model number (2623D7U) shows it as ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Unfortunately, AMD never updated the X1000 series of drivers for Windows 8. In fact, I can't seem to find any drivers on their website lower than 2000.
There are some links on various forums suggesting to download the Windows 7 version of the X1400 driver, but apparently AMD changed their website around in February and the links are all broken, and as I said, I can't seem to find any of those drivers on the AMD website.
Just to be clear, everything is working fine as it is, and I don't want to risk screwing it up. But if someone knows how to solve this issue and enable me to gain the ability to add dual monitor mode please let me know. Short of that, if there's a cheap graphic card you can recommend for my PCMCIA slot which could do the trick, I would appreciate it.
    Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Get the Vista driver for your machine here: Ati X1400 driver Vista (32bit/64bit)
Run the setup file to extract the drivers, but cancel the installation, as Windows 8 does not like
the Catalyst Control Center. Then you just manually install the drivers through Device Manager
    by pointing it to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO
I've done this on quite a few T60's and this always fixes the dual display issue, which Windows
    does a great job managing.

  • Extended display: Should it work for lightroom slideshows or full page displays in Pages?

    Hi
I have a thunderbolt display hooked up to a 2012 mba. Extended display is working perfectly except for 2 things. I have the usb and the thunderbolt connected.
#1 In Lightroom I can see all my module options, but when I hit play in slideshow the display goes blank and only shows up on the mba screen.
#2 In Pages, I can see the pages window on the display right up until I hit full screen mode, then just like for lightroom, the display goes blank and the full screen display only shows up on the mba screen.
    Any advice much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Updates keep switching from duplicate to extend display

I'm getting a little tired of this. I keep a lot of desktop shortcuts and I keep them arranged in a specific order. Only, every time Microsoft sends me automatic updates it switches me fro "duplicate" displays to "extend" displays. Which
leads to all my shortcuts being stacked up on one side, and 45 minutes of putting everything back where it belongs.
Thanks to the Blue Ray player, I can't just unplug the DVI cable, and I primarily use VGA so that I don't have to switch everything around when I want to use one of my other computers that don't have DVI options.  And, YES, I logged in as "Administrator"
    and changed things there.
So, either stop changing my settings every time you force me to update, or fix the stupid software that can no longer output Blue Ray video through the VGA signal.  Don't even "try" to lie to me and say it's impossible, there was no problem
doing it back when my card didn't have a DVI output.
As it stands, you force me to get a DVI capable because, now that my video card has a DVI output, it is suddenly impossible to output Blue-Ray video over VGA.  Then, even though both cables go to the same monitor, Windows  7 "insists"
that the 1366x768 DVI monitor is actually a different resolution than the 1366x768 VGA monitor.  Then when I force it to duplicate the display (so I don't have to switch my monitor back and forth just to operate normally,) it decides that I must be mistaken
    every time it updates.
    f

So far it's happened after every update that requires a restart.  If I restart my computer without an update, it doesn't happen.  If I have an update that doesn't need to restart my computer, then I later restart my computer manually, it doesn't
    happen.
The drivers for my display haven't been updated since I installed them.  Just went through the update history to make sure.  Checked all that were installed on 11/11/2014 (the last time this happened,) and scanned through all the rest - though
I don't remember which specific ones required a restart or not.  Didn't see anything ATI (well AMD now,) in the list.  Didn't see anything HP (for the LCD monitor,) either.  Those usually appear under "optional" updates which don't
    install automatically anyways.

  • Extended display does not work after downgrading to XP

    Hi
I have downgraded from VISTA to XP
Before the downgrade extended display (19 LCD connected via docking) it was working OK
after the upgrade, it stopped working
I installed the latest video drivers from the LENOVO website, and tried playing with the FN+F7 but no luck.
It seems that there is some communication with the screen, as the screen looks as if it is working, but the entire screen is black!
when i look in the screen properties, it seems as if the extended screen is working, but again the screen is black.
    any ideas?
    thanks

  • Rich text box used in Infopath Form not displaying option to get images from Computer

    Hello,
We have used "Rich text box" in Infopath Form which is not displaying option to get images from Computer.
Options available are : From Address, From SharePoint
But if we Rich text box in list, then it works fine with "From Computer" option.
can you please help me out to get this option.
    Thanks in advance.
    REgards,

    Hi,
From your description, there is no “From Computer” option to get images with rich text box in InfoPath form.
Per my knowledge, by design there are “From Address” and “From SharePoint” options without “From Computer” option in rich text box in InfoPath form. As a workaround, you can develop a custom InfoPath Rich Text box to do it.
About developing a custom InfoPath control, I suggest you create a new thread on the forum “Visual Studio Tools for Office”, more experts will assist you with InfoPath development.
