Extended keyboard captures?

Apologies if this has been asked already.
I am creating simulations to train on an application that
uses a non-standard keyboard - it has about ten more function keys.
The user will need to press some of these keys to perform the
transactions.
Captivate is not capturing these keystrokes. I cannot figure
out how to capture them manually (or use a click box to add a
shortcut). Is this possible?
Many thanks,

Hi again
Hmmm, that's an interesting thought. Aside from inserting a
kabillion Click Box objects on the slide (one for each key allowed)
there really isn't a way inside Captivate. Personally, I think it
would make for a wonderful enhancement request.

  • Mapping the "fn" key to a key on an external extended keyboard

Is it possible to map the "fn" key found on Macbooks to a key (such as the RH Control Key) on the current Apple extended keyboard?
I use an extended keyboard with my Macbook Pro and wish to have access to the fn functions like I do on the Macbook's keyboard.
    Thanks.

Oh my gosh I can't believe it you are right - there it is under F13 staring at me.
I have had so many years of that being the "help" key that I didn't notice it had changed on the new aluminium keyboards.
Thank you for pointing it out.

  • Numeric pad doesn't work anymore in extended Keyboard

IMAC numeric pad in old extended keyboard doesn't word anymore . I think something wrong in configuration but can't find it.
    help

I called Apple and we trouble shot it for over an hour. It turns out that I could use the number pad when logging in under "test" username but not for my own. After deleting a lot of things and restarting, we found that the problem was in this file "com.apple.universalaccess.plist!!! Once we trashed that and restarted it, my number pad worked and now works fine.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to reply! Your suggestion was the first thing we worked on and ruled that out!

  • Keyboard posessed - Up arrow thinks it's an F6 key on extended keyboard

I hope someone can help with this problem. Suddenly my Apple extended keyboard has become possessed. When I press the Up arrow I get an error beep and screen flash. If I'm in the finder in column view and attempt to use the up arrow the highlighting indicator returns to the bottom of the column and beeps. If I press it again and there is a sub folder it will move to the next column.
If I open the character viewer it shows that when the up arrow is pressed the F6 key is also activated. This is extremely annoying when trying to move up and down columns.
I've checked the keyboard layout and the other usual suspects, voice commands and universal access, as well as keyboard shortcuts and can find wrong here.
I suspect my fat fingers have inadvertently pressed some strange combination summoning some keyboard demon. The question, how to get rid of it?
I've connected the keyboard to another Mac and it does not replicate the problem. However, creating another user account repeats the same problem.
Anyone have an idea how to exorcise this demon?
    Thanks.

Not sure how that's happened, but it's easy enough to fix; download Double Command -- it'll add a new prefs pane which gives you lots of key remapping options.

Hi Ali, the discs are retail. The hdd is a transplant from a G3 B&W 300 mhz , that had OS X 10.4.5 installed. When I started the first time all was well, Software Updater found the 10.4.6 update and thats where my trouble started. The updater asked to update and then quit unexpectantly. I tried getting on line using Safari & Ie5.2 and would get the same statement " Quit unexpectantly". I had just installed the software so I had nothing to loose and decided to reinstall. And thats where I lost it all.
Now a new glitch. while I'm writing this on my iMac, I'm still trying to install on my B&W, the blue progress bar has gone all the way across " Running Installer Script. Time remaining: less than a minute. " The colored pinwheel spun for a while but has not done anything for @ 20 mins. but i can still move the cursor on the desktop.
    Thanks

  • F4 Key on extended keyboard

I just bought a new extended keyboard and according to the manual that came with it the F4 key is supposed to bring up all applications to allow you to launch the one you want. Why doesn't it work? When I press it all that happens is that the Dashboard widgets appear on the screen.
    Thanks

I think you are talking about Launchpad, a feature of OS 10.7 (Lion). If you are running Snow Leopard as you indicate, the key will open the Dashboard widgets, just as you see.

  • Aluminium Extended Keyboard and Wireless Keyboard Problems

    Hi
I'm having problems with both keyboards. I have repaired permissions and repaired the disk.
I can't use the keyboard to invoke the Hardware test from the second installation DVD when restarting (holding done the D key), nor can I boot of the first installation DVD by holding down the C Key. Likewise, neither keyboards permit the pRAM to be zapped.
Holding down the Option key when restarting has no effect.
When typing, some keyboard characters and the function keys just won't work on the wireless keyboard. For example, on the extended keyboard I am using now, I can't type a capital t.
the only way to boot from the installation disk, is to select it as the start-up disk in System Preferences.
the login screen does not allow me to type in the password first time around. it just keeps adding bullets, e.g. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
the only way to get around this is to press enter, let the login window shake itself, and try again.
I think this is a software / firmware / driver problem. Perhaps it is related to the 10.6.8 update? the keyboard problems have only started happening today.
My wife said she had to stop everything the other day, because the iMac demanded (out of the blue) that a restart was required. She could do nothing but restart the iMac.
Without a fully functioning keyboard, the computer is not much use!
    Any ideas?

  • Panther & Extended Keyboard

    Hi,
Is there any way to program the function keys on an Apple extended keyboard for use with OS 10.3.9? Also, any way to get Classic to recognize the serial printer port without rebooting to 9.2.2? Panther is losing a bit of its charm what with the loss of these and some other features.
    Thanks,
    Don Rieg

I used a Griffin iMate adapter with an Apple ADB Extended Keyboard II (M3501) on a G4 MDD at work running Panther. Exposé F-keys worked fine. The volume F-keys and the optical drive eject key never worked right. I talked to some very nice people at Griffin. They said that different keyboards, even of the same model, can produce different F-key function results. My report of the volume keys not working from an M3501 board was a first for them, but they knew the CD eject function was among the "known issues."
I was so accustomed to the M3501 keyboard that I could barely type on the Apple Pro USB keyboard that came with the G4. I used the adapter to move the beloved M3501 from the Beige G3/333 to the new computer.

  • Slow MBP keyboard & Apple Extended Keyboard Performance

I have noticed that the above keyboards run slow, meaning there is an increased latency time from keystroke until the character appears, when I use IE 8.0.6001.18702 in Windows XP SP3 running as VM in Parallels 7.0.15107.  My base OS is Mac OX 10.7.5.  I know this is a rather unique situation; however, the keyboards have only recently begun to misbehave.  Any thoughts?

Sorry, but what does this have to do with the iPod touch?
If you're attempting to use a Apple Extended Keyboard with a Windows 7 system and have a problem, you should take this up on a Windows-oriented support site. The Apple Extended Keyboard itself has no programmable keys, so any key remapping would need to be done in Windows, and that's not a subject that should be addressed here (particularly not in the iPod touch forum).

  • US Extended keyboard layout map and question

    Hi,
I am not on a Mac now, that's why I ask:
    1. I need a map of the Apple US Extended keyboard layout, esp. how it works with the special characters and dead keys; where do I get this?
    2. Which extended key combinations do you press simultaneously, and which do you press one after the other? So called dead keys.
I want to have this layout on a Windows computer. I know how to create any keyboard layout in Windows, perhaps there is a way to export the layout from OS X with a single click?

    traktor15 wrote:

but not the special characters (the dead keys?) in orange.
Yes, an orange key is a "deadkey".  You type it and then you type the base letter to get the accented version.  For example, on US Extended, option/alt plus a, then o, will give you ō (o macron).
I don't know how one creates deadkeys with the MKLC.  They are found also in Windows layouts like US International, where ' is a deadkey for acute accent.

  • New Mac Mini/OSX not recognizing Apple extended keyboard

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini. I also purchased a Apple (extended) Keyboard (usb cable connected with 10 key pad and full F keys).
When I initially plugged in the keyboard the OS setup screen indicated that it didn't recognize the keyboard. I tried setting it up several times, it doesn't seem to "see" the correct keys as I try to set it up. When prompted to "press the key to the right of the SHIFT key, when I do so I get a sound, no other response and the setup goes no further.) Some keys do not function properly (for example the sound up and sound down keys do not work). The general input for the keys work (I am typing this text with it), but it seems weird that an Apple device does not recognize another Apple device.
Is there something I need to do to complete setting up the keyboard? Are there any articles about this particular problem? I wasn't able to find any in the forum or help files.
    Thank you,
    Tim Kern

Thank you for the reply SilverSkyRat,
I checked the settings and USB ports for the keyboard connection. Still no-go with the "configure your keyboard" recognizing keys on the keyboard. I have also been trying to use the sound up and sound down keys and they do not function either. I will try another keyboard later today.
Thank you again for your reply.
    Cheers,
    Tim

  • Lost use of extended keyboard numbers section?

Since upgrading to 10.4.8 I have lost the ability to key in numbers from the extended keyboard. Entering numbers from the upper region of the keyboard does work.
Is there a solution to this or is it just me and I need to strip something out?

    Hi, gchenault.
I presume you are referring to the numeric keypad on the right side of your keyboard.
If you press the keys in the numeric keypad, does the mouse pointer move? If so, you or someone else using your computer has accidentally enabled Mouse Keys in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse Tab.
Open the System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse tab. If "on" is selected for "Mouse Keys," then select off.
Note: Even if you have Mouse Keys set Off in the Universal preference pane, you can enabling toggling of Mouse Keys On or Off at will by selecting Enable Universal Access Shortcuts at the bottom of any of the Universal Access preference panes. With shortcuts enabled, pressing the Option key five times will toggle Mouse Keys On or Off. Neat, eh? Handy to know should your mouse ever quit. However, if Enable... Shortcuts is not selected, then the toggle will not work.
