Extended photo information

I am using a new camera. A Canon Powershot SX20 IS. I am using the iphoto application to bring photos from the camera to my computer. ( Not the Canon software)
After I have imported a photo, when I go to Extended Photo information, I get very limited information. For example I do not get ISO readings.
I was watching a presentation by another person today on Iphoto. She got much more information from the Extended Photo Information drop down menu? the information is useful in improving your photo shooting. It just wasn't there on my computer. It was there in my camera, but I erased the images after uploading them. Is there a way to access this information in iphoto? Or, do I have to use the Canon application to upload the information?
I usually transfer photos from Iphoto to Photo shop for editing.
Thank you.

with no information it is hard to say
just to be sure that you have done it correctly since you do not tell what you have done - select a photo and under the photos menu ==>show extended photo info - make sure that the sections you want are open - there is a VERY light open close triangle just to the left of the section name

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.

  • Extended photo info

The extended photo information suddenly only appears in abbreviated form. The exposure information no longer appears.

There is a +very subtle+ disclosure triangle to the left of each of those headings.

    Very, very subtle.

  • "Extended Photo Info" lost/invisible after migration to new Mac with 10.6.2

I just migrated my iPhoto library to my new Mac running OSX 10.6.2 from a Mac running OSX 10.3 I did this by copying the "Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder to an external drive. Today I tried to use "Show Extended Photo Info", and information appears to be lost? There is no Camera or Exposure information. I re-imported a photo from an old e-mail, and it does have the information! Do the Event/Location/Face features cause this to be deleted from my photos? I used these feature a lot before noticing anything was wrong.
Any ideas? Can I somehow check to see if the JPEG file still has the information? It is not too late to re-do the library import. I cannot live without the exposure information, as I like to play with my camera settings.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After copying the library to the external HD did you open it directly with iPhoto? When iPhoto 09 converted that library to the latest version it would not have done anything to lose the EXIF data which is stored in the library's database files.
You didn't import that library into a new library did you? If you didn't then try rebuilding the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Is there a way to see the photo information on the iCloud sharing pages?

There seems to be an issue with Apple wanting people to see the information for each photo easily.  When I share a photo in a shared album on iCloud, I don't see the title nor do I see any photo information, only the date that the photo was shared.
I DO see the date of the picture when it's in slide show view, in light font at the bottom right-easy to miss, but not when it's the basic view that allows us to scroll through the photos.
Is there a way to see the title and date of the photos on the left where the black space is and the sharing info is?
It seems that this whole Photos program is half-done...
    Thank you,
    Dave

There is an App at the App store called "Battery Magic". You can get a trial version, (free) that will show you what you want to know, including battery life, and how long you can play games, music and other things on your current battery life.
You can also download the full version. I think its $0.99.

  • How can I copy a iPhoto album onto a flashdrive along with the photo information?

How can i copy an iPhoto album to a flashdrive along with photo information, in order to send it to a friend please?

File -> Export. In the resulting dialogue you can choose to export the Original. Or, if you choose to export a Jpeg you can get the edited version. Check the boxes at 'Keywords and Descriptions' and 'Places Information' and you'll get the metadata, if that's what you mean by "photo information"

  • GPS Altitude Not in Extended Photo Info or EXIF Dat ahwne exported

    Hi,
I have my own website that uses a Goggle Maps plugin to read and show GPS info for photos I upload. When I use Places to capture that info the Altitude info is not stored either in iPhoto's database or in the EXIF info for the photo when exported. Is there anyway get this info stored in the database and phot when exported?
The Google Maps plugin on my site makes use of the Altitude details to show a more close up image depending on the altitude chosen. Without this info the site just shows a extremely high level world map with a pin showing in the country where the picture was taken. Not particularly useful. So I have to go and edit each file on my website and manually add this info. Which is very time consuming.

    Jennec
iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
There is no provision in iPhoto to add altitude at this time - iPhoto should maintain the EXIF data that is imported - if it is not then I certainly would report that as a bug
When I show extended photo info in iPhoto for photos it shows the altitude - I presume it exports - will test later

  • IPhoto 8 missing Photo Information

When I show the Photo Information there is information missing. If the camera is put into an automatic mode (sports, portrait, landscape, ...)- the "exposure" setting shows "Not Defined". It does appear to recognize if the camera is set manually - "shutter priority". How do I get to recognize the automatic settings? Camera is a Nikon D40x.

Have a look at this discussion - iPhoto Upgrade and Library Issue
It may be the same problem.
Select your iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default the iPhoto Library is in the Pictures folder. Ctrl-click or right click the iPhoto Library. From the contextual menu that will pop up select "Show Package Contents". Are there folders "Masters" and "Old Masters"? If there is a folder "Old Masters" the upgrade of your iPhoto library has failed.
Copy both folders - Masters and Old Masters to a drive, where you have enough space. The Old Masters folder will probably contain most of your missing photos. We do not know any method right now, how to fix a library, that has been corrupted in this way. If you cannot restore from an earlier backup, since your backup drive failed,
    backup the corrupted library,
create a new, empty iPhoto library,
then try to recreate the iPhoto library by importing the photos from Old Masters into a new iPhoto library. also, import any photos from Masters.
And send feedback to Apple. This bug needs attention urgently.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Sharing photos from iphoto 11, why does the photo information not upload when I click with share via email?  How can I make sure the photo information and location are shared when the photo (s) are shared.

When I go to share photos in iPhoto 11, The photos transfer to the email I'm sending but the photo information and location don't.  The older version of iPhoto did it, why not this version?  What am I missing in the process of sharing via email?, Thank You.

When you share to email do you get the following dialogue:

    Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Content%20panel this.] You can check in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Content''' > '''Exceptions''' (for images) and delete the address (I'm using another version but I think the method would be very similar). [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Content%20panel Options > Content]
If you blocked the image through an add-on, try right-clicking on an image on another website to find out the name of the add-on and open the add-on options to delete/disable the blocking rule. Alternatively you can also try via the '''Options''' for the add-on in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Extensions''' (on the left). Clicking on '''More''' > '''Home Page''' would take you to the help/support site for the add-on.

  • Showing/hiding photo information in BOOK

In iPhoto, Book, under Settings, the default "Automatically enter Photo Information" is checked. What is this photo information and where will it appear in the Book?
One help screen indicates it will appear in text areas but I cannot see any difference in viewing the Book in Preview if it is checked or not checked.
It would be nice if this pulled in the description of the photo

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That feature only works in a one of the themes, Folio. There were others in iPhoto 6 like Yearbook that had that feature but those are no longer available.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
