Extending APX with another APX did nothing

I have my modem and original AirPort Express in my basement. I just bought another AirPort Express to extend the network. I placed it on the first floor of my 2 story house and was expecting it to get the reception on my 2nd floor much better. It didn't do anything to internet speed or wireless strength. I get about 40% wireless connection rate regardless if the "extending" APX is plugged in or not. And that's me testing on the 2nd floor
Did I configure it wrong? I have it set as Extend A Wireless Network. It's definitely in the network (airtunes works great). Is there a difference between participating in a WDS network and extending a network? Is that what I did wrong?

The only change that should be made to the "main" Express is to make sure that the "Allow this network extended" box is checked and you indicated that it was, so that should be all that is needed on this device.
Did you use the Manual Setup option to configure the "remote" Express?
Please move the "remote" Express close to your computer and temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express and power it up.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Jot down the AirPort ID of the remote Express
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your "main" network
Allow wireless clients option enabled
Wireless Security = Exact setting as your "main" network
Wireless Password = Same password as your "main" network
Click Update and the Express should restart. Close AirPort Utility immediately and disconnect the ethernet cable. You should get a green light in 15-20 seconds.
Unplug the Express and move it to a location that is 1/2 the distance between your "main" Express and the area where you need more coverage. Depending on obstructions, you may need to move the Express closer or further from the mid point location.
Power down the entire network. Order is not important. Power up the modem first and let it run by itself a few minutes, then power up the "main" Express for a few minutes, then the "remote" Express for a few minutes and finally your computer(s).
Give that a try to see if things improve.
You can verify if your laptop is connecting to the "remote" Express by holding down the option key on your computer while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of your screen. The BSSID should be the same as the AirPort ID of the "remote" Express.

    Hi all! I have 2 AiportExtremes and a AiportExpress. I have (Extreme1) in my basement where it is connected to a modem with a cable. I selected the option EXTEND NETWORK and under Connection Sharing it is on SHARE A PUBLIC IP ADDRESS in Aiport Utility. The internet work and everything, but it is a bit weak upstairs. (Extreme1) is version 7.6.1, but it can be updated to 5.6.1. I hit update and nothing happens.... Why???

    I then wanted to put (Extreme2) in my room which was above the main floor to extend the connection. I connected a internet cable in (Extreme2) and the other side went into my Internet Wall Jack. After that, I connected a cable in my basement where my Internet Jack Box is to (Extreme 1.) That cable connected to the first Port of (Extreme 1) unless you count the modem cable so then it is in the 2nd Port.

    I went through the process on (Extreme2) by clicking continue and I did the name of the router, password, and I checked off remember in keychain. I then clicked I WANT AIRPORT EXTREME TO JOIN MY CURRENT NETWORK. After that, I clicked I WANT TO CONNECT AIRPORT EXTREME TO MY NETWORK USING ETHERNET TO EXTEND MY EXISTING WIRELESS NETWORK. I picked the name of (Extreme1) which is BigDogRouter and I get the final menu of what I clicked. It didn't save the settings I hit, like I hit I WANT AIRPORT EXTREME TO JOIN MY CURRENT NETWORK and it said I hit CREATE A WIRELESS NETWORK. The thing is though, under Wirless Network Name it's the network name of (Extreme1.) So this it totally mest up... I hit update and about 1 minute later, everything went through, both routers went green, Airport Utility was trying to detect the routers and then the problem occured where both of the routers dissapeared on Airport Utility. I got a messgae saying it couldn't detect the devices. After that happened, I couldn't get the routers to show back up, but on my bottom right side of the computer where my networks are shown, (Extreme1) network is there having full bars, but it won't let me connect. I had to do a full factory reset on both routers to get (Extreme1) back up and running.

    I then tried doing it manually. So i named it, password and checked off remember in key chain which is all under Base Station.

    I went to Wirless, I cliked EXTEND WIRELESS NETWORK and I had to type in the wireless network name of (Extreme1.) I checked ALLOW WIRELESS CLIENTS as well as giving the router the same security as (Extreme1) which is WPA2 PERSONAL. I also gave it the same password.

    Once that was done, I clicked Internet Connection. Connection Using had WIRELESS NETWORK selected. Under that, Connection Sharing had OFF (BRIDGE MODE) already selected as well. It wouldn't let me change Connection Useing and Connection Sharing.

    I clicked update and the same exact thing happend as if I hit continue. I am totally confused and I have been trying to fix this problem for more than 2 months. If anyone has any ideas then please post up. I had a similar problem with my Express to, but I won't get into that till later.

  • How do I Get Extended display with another monitor?

    I connected my iMac to another LCD Display, and i'd like to get both monitors to be extended displays instead of mirror displays. Basically Both monitors are showing the same image, but i would like to have both monitors be extended and not share the same screen, for the main reason of working with Logic Music, and i need more visual space to work with.
    My question... How can i do that?
    I went to the help, and the help menu said..
    1.)Open System Preferences and click Displays.
    2.)Click Arrangement and follow the onscreen instructions.
    But i don't see Arrangement on my displays window.

    The Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value), and probably other Popups, automatically create a hidden field for the return value.
    My field was P7_CONTACT so htmldb creates a hidden item P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE
    P7_CONTACT.value equals the display text.
    P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE.value equals the ID value.
    So, I can access the returned Display name by:
    html_GetElement('P7_CONTACT').value
    Done deal...

  • Creating an extended network with another base station

    I bought the new 802.11n because I wanted to extend my network into another area where it is getting a weaker signal. I set up the new one as the main one, and selected "extend the network" - then I had my old one (only a few months old) "join the network".
    Is it boosting the signal in a new area? The computer there still shows just as weak of a signal as before. The remote base station is about center between the new base station and the computer.

    Nevermind.. I changed it to "extend the network" and it works much better.

    I have used the apple airport utility but when i go to add it does not see my other Airport express
    Where do i need to set this up in the airport utlity.
    Firmware are updated and am runner 10.5.5. The other Airport is found as a seperate netowk.

    Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    On your iPhone go to Settings > Store.
    Select the Apple ID at the bottom.
    Select Sign Out at the menu selection provided.
    Follow this by signing in with your new Apple ID/iTunes store account.

    Maybe you have multiple accounts that's why your purchase history is empty. You can try checking for possible Apple IDs that's existing for you or you can ask for assistance from support.

    not all phones support Text to Speech...
    1st, you can not install "Text to Speech", this is built-in to the system the only thing you can add are the the different "voices", hence if your phone does not originally support Nokia's Text to Speech, you will not be able to install it, however if i am not mistaken there are 3rd party software that does "text to speech"... goggle nokia mobility for more info...

    That's what backups are for. Use Time Machine. It's free and external drives are cheap. To recover your iPhone's content requires the use of third party utilities. Success is not guaranteed. Read:
