Extending Controller for a std page--good or bad

Hi
Is it a good practice to extend a standard page?
Do it have any disadvantages
Please advise
thanks
kp

Hi KP,
Anoop has explained very clearly.
Extension of controller is not recommend However we have to do it for fullfill the business requirement. However you can extend the controller but always include the SUPER class in controller.
if you are calling the super class then I think there is no major issue.
Thanks

  • Extending Controller for a std OAF page

    Hi,
    I have a requirment to extend the CO of a std OAF page.
    The requirement is,On click of a submit button (Apply) invoke a custom method before the std code gets executed
    To achieve the same I will use personalization and extend the standard CO and override PFR as follows
    CustomCO extends StdCO
    public void PR()
    super.PR(); ----do I need to invoke super here?
    public void PFR()
    super.PFR();-----------A
    if( Apply button clicked)
    invoke custom code()
    super.PFR(); -----------B
    My question is
    1) Can i copy the part std CO code(using decompiler) in my custom CO (i guess not a good practice)
    2) Instead of 1) above can i invoke super as shown in B(in the code above)?
    3) If i invoke super after my custom code in the if loop can I remove super pointed as A (in the code above)? Will it harm the std functionality?
    Thanks,
    kamath.

    I agree with you, Tapash .... there might be a few cases where you might want to call seeded code first. But, the point I wanted to stress is for a submitButton, mostly the seeded controller will redirect to currentpage or any other page (depending on logic) in its code. So if you are extending the functionality of it, it becomes necessary to call ur custom code first. If you still want the seeded code to be executed first, then you might have to decompile the class file, paste the complete code in custom controller and insert your custom logic whereever you feel is appropriate.
    And Senthil's suggestion also shows calling super method after custom code ... so we are all on same page :-)

  • Help - Extended Controller for Blanket PO not working

    Isupplier portal : PO details page
    On page /oracle/apps/pos/changeorder/webui/PosViewPOPG , I extended ViewOrderPGCO.
    All the items in PO, which have bill of material are made as hyper links and clicking on them pops up a window with bill of mateiral displayed.
    All worked fine untill I opened Blanket PO, there is an item which should be displayed as link, but its static. so I put SOPs in extended controller after each line, and to my consternation it does not print any SOP.
    Blanket POs in isupplier portal have hyphens in PO Number. Has anyone faced this problem ? why is the extension not reflecting in case of blanket po ? What am i missing ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Anyone please help.
    Extended CO for blanket PO doesnt seem to be called whereas for standard PO it works.
    Steps taken
    - MAViewOrderPGCO extends ViewOrderPGCO and replaced the new CO through personalization at site level.
    public class MAViewOrderPGCO extends ViewOrderPGCO
      public void processRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
        super.processRequest(pageContext, webBean);
       System.out.println("___________________________________");  //This prints for STANDARD PO  but not for Blanket PO }
    }could someone help me in debugging this. I am terribly stuck.

  • Verizon Wireless Network Extender and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Customer Service experience

    It was a dark and stormy night...
    For the past eight years, I had been happy with Verizon wireless service. Great coverage and rarely a dropped call. However, all of that changed when I moved into a lovely mid-century modern condominium. The solid concrete walls and ceilings were blocking my attempts to communicate with the outside world (i.e. order pizza).
    Enter the Verizon Wireless Network Extender! My own personal cell tower! Alas, the VWNE was $250, which was a lot of money. So, being the resourceful recycling advocate that I am, I procured a refurbished one and hooked it up to my network. Then I called Verizon to begin what would soon become one of the Bottom 10 Least Enjoyable Experiences in customer service history (note: obvious foreshadowing).
    The first technician I spoke with was Benjamin, who was actually quite helpful. He noted the VWNE's MAC address and other information before attempting to allow me to access my unit. But he could not. Why? Apparently the unit was still registered to another Verizon customer. He told me the matter would be forwarded to "Verizon Correspondence Support" who would contact the registered owner and get their approval to reassign the unit.
    A week later, I called in to ask about the status of my request, but was told by Darryl (another tech from the VWNE department) that the "Verizon Correspondence Support" department did not exist. Did. Not. Exist? Fine, I explained the situation again, and Darryl eventually told me he would submit a special access form which may resolve the problem. He apologized for the mixup, thanked me for my patience, and told me to wait 24-48 hours for his return call with the results.
    120 hours later, I called to ask about the status of the change access form because I had not received a callback. Michelle, another representative of VWNE support, told me there was no record of this form having been submitted. No. Record...? After which, she made no effort to help me after reading through my transcript. In fact, quite the opposite. To paraphrase...
    "I'm sorry we wasted two weeks of your time leading you to believe we had a solution. Actually, there is no Verizon Correspondence Department, there is no special access form, and no tech will be calling you back. Furthermore, I will not allow you to use our unit because the previous owner hasn't filled out Release Form 27B stroke 6. For all I know it might have been stolen. Perhaps by you? I guess we'll never know for sure, because I won't contact the owner for any reason. In fact, there is nothing I can do to help you whatsoever. But if you like, feel free to throw our network adapter in a landfill. Thank you and have a nice day."
    OK Michelle, here's the deal. I don't even WANT this doohickey. You see, all I want is for my phone to work. That's why I am calling you. To get THIS piece of your equipment working, at my expense, so that I can continue to be a Verizon customer. Seems like I'm doing my part. Why is this so difficult?
    "Sorry"
    Lesson of the story? DON'T BE A MICHELLE. If a customer is in trouble and you can't solve his/her problem, contact a supervisor and work out an alternative. In my example, perhaps Verizon could have provided me with an "official" VWNE? At a discount? Or have a technician sent out to examine the signal? Really, *anything* is better than being brushed off. After being brushed off.
    After being brushed off.

    Follow up: I acquired another VWNE from a local seller, just in case he had to be contacted for the Nuclear Priority Phone Release Code (geez). Ironically, it wasn't necessary, because said fellow had already left Verizon after too many negative customer service issues. Oops.
    The good news is that Verizon was able to properly activate the second unit. I was connected to a VWNE tech named Bertha who was VERY helpful and treated me like a human being. Which made all the difference and restored my faith in humanity. I requested that my story be relayed to upper management so that the hordes of secondhand VWNE buyers wouldn't also get burned by Verizon's "hands off and look elsewhere" policy. Bingo. Finally. Done.
    Epilogue: Until Verizon eases up on their needlessly stringent policy, beware the unchecked VWNE! Be sure to get the MAC code and check it with a local store/tech support before buying it.

  • Extended Controller is not working for SalaryCorrectPG.xml page

    Dear All,
    I have a problem with customisation in Oracle's seeded page in HRMS Module.
    The page navigation is as follows:
    Login--->Home Page---->Access Payroll Manager Responsibility------>people--->Enter & Maintain--->search for an employee------>click on Assignment button---->Click on Salary button--->Salary details page will open----->Click on correct button of the salary page.
    Now I have extended the SalaryCorrectVO in the salary correct page under a custom directory (but structure is same as the seeded one)
    and Created one attribute in the SalaryCorrectVO which is showing multiplied value of FTE Salary and FTEFactor in the page.
    Now my concern is in the page there are three fileds(Amount Change, Change %,FTE Salary) which are editable. PPR event is fired when any value
    changes in these 3 fields. Now my extended attribute (xxSalaryCorrectVO) is depending on the 3rd field's value i.e FTE Salary. So after page load when these 3 field's
    value changes the FTESalary field's value is also changing but my extended attribute's value is not changing (XxfteSalary) .
    So I need to update the controller of that page under where the PPR event is catched. So to update PPR event part I have extended the controller
    SalaryCorrectCO class and write the follwoing code in the extended controller and put the controller in the custom directory.But whenever i put the
    extended controller in the path the Salary Correct page is throwing 'null pointer exception' when the page loads itself. Please help...........

  • Missing class file for extended controller

    Any response/advice is greatly appreciated.
    I've searched the forums, and I saw some had this error, but the post wasn't resolved. We are on 12.1.3. I've done this plenty of times when we were on 11.5.10 with great success. I've personalize a page to look at my extendedController, bounced apache:
    adapcctl.sh stop
    adoacorectl.sh stop
    adoacorectl.sh start
    adapcctl.sh start
    Web page brings up:
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.classloader.util.AnnotatedNoClassDefFoundError, msg= Missing class: emsc.oracle.apps.emscper.dor.webui.ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO (wrong name: ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO) Dependent class: emsc.oracle.apps.emscper.dor.webui.ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO Loader: oacore.root:0.0.0 Code-Source: /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes/ Configuration: <library> in /demsci/applmgr/common/webapps/oacore/
    Verified spelling, ensure class file is where it is suppose to be:
    $ echo $JAVA_TOP
    /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes
    $ echo `pwd`
    /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes/emsc/oracle/apps/emscper/dor/webui
    Created new /dor/webui directory as user applmgr.
    $ ls -ltr $JAVA_TOP/emsc/oracle/apps/emscper/dor/webui
    total 9
    -rw-r--r-- 1 apdemsci aademsci 3243 Nov 28 18:26 ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO.java
    -rwxrwxrwx 1 apdemsci aademsci 3710 Nov 28 18:26 ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO.class
    ClassPath has the $JAVA_TOP listed:
    /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes
    Thanks

    I moved the extended class to the standard directory: $JAVA_TOP/oracle/apps/per/dor/webui
    Recompiled it there
    From Functional Administrator, changed the path of the extended controller to the standard path:
    oracle.apps.per.dor.webui.ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO
    Bounced apache/cleared cached.
    Received the same error, very strange....
    Missing class: oracle.apps.per.dor.webui.ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO (wrong name: ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO) Dependent class: oracle.apps.per.dor.webui.ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO Loader: oacore.root:0.0.0 Code-Source: /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes/ Configuration: <library> in /demsci/applmgr/common/webapps/oacore/
    Verified the class file is there and it is where it is suppose to be:
    $ pwd
    /demsci/applmgr/common/java/classes/oracle/apps/per/dor/webui
    you have mail in /var/spool/mail/apdemsci
    $ ls -ltr ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO.class
    -rw-r--r-- 1 apdemsci aademsci 3710 Nov 29 15:29 ExtDocsOfRecordUpdateCO.class
    Makes no sense...
    For your other point, I don't want rename the subdirectory since we have other extensions dependent on the path name.
    Thanks

  • How to get the .class file for the extended Controller .java file

    Hi,
    I did the below steps.
    1. Created New OAWorkspace
    2. Created New project
    3. Imported the page .xml file
    4. Added new .java file by extending the controller class
    5. Added code in the .java file.
    6. Ran the .xml file
    As I copied all the folders from Unix box, the page was opened.
    But My question was where can I see the .class file the extended controller. It's a .java file. How to compile and get the .class file for this .java file. If I get this .class file, I can go to the page and click the personlize page. and change the Controller name to the new path by ftp ing the new class to the cust.oracle.apps.pos.changeorder.webiui.
    Please let me know how to create the .class file.
    Thanks,
    HP

    All are Java files are stored in JDEV_INSTALL_DIR:\jdevhome\jdev\myprojects\
    In your case the path java would be
    JDEV_INSTALL_DIR:\jdevhome\jdev\ myprojects \cust\oracle\apps\pos\changeorder\webui\
    AND
    Once you compile the java file in Jdeveloper, Class files get generated @ below path
    In your case the path of class would be
    JDEV_INSTALL_DIR:\jdevhome\jdev\ myclasses \cust\oracle\apps\pos\changeorder\webui\

  • Extended Controller not working

    Hi
    I have extended the controller and tried to call a pl/sql package and tried to insert data into a custom table. I have attached the controller through personalization at site level. and moved the .class file to $JAVA_TOP. The page is not showing any error. I added a field on a page and try to save the data to a custom field.
    When i try to save the page it is showing me a message that Successfully saved!. but data is not getting populated in Custom table.

    As you said you are able to see the log for processRequest that means your extended controller is being called.That's good.
    I am not able to see the log for the processFormRequest. The data is not being populated in the db tableHave you written some logs there if yes and still you are not able to see them.Do one them move called to super after your code and then check.
    Means your extended controller pfr method would be something like this
    public void processFormRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
    OAApplicationModule am = pageContext.getApplicationModule(webBean);
    OAQueryBean queryBean = (OAQueryBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("OCMBtnLayOutRN");
    // String apply = queryBean.getGoButtonName();
    if (pageContext.getParameter("Apply") != null)
    Integer pcaseFolderId = (Integer) pageContext.getTransactionValue("CasefolderID");

  • Calling a web-service from extended controller

    Hello,
    We are tying to consume a web-service in extended controller of a page. We created stub files using
    */oracle/d01/oracle/VIS/db/tech_st/11.1.0/jlib/axis.jar* and related jar files found on the E-BS Server.
    We are using our stub classes in the extended controller, code gets compiled fine, we have deployed our CO, along with class files
    of the stub in
    $JAVA_TOP/xxcustom/oarcle/apps/.... folder.
    Now when we access the page for which we have extended the controller, we get following error
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.classloader.util.AnnotatedNoClassDefFoundError, msg=
         Missing class: org.apache.axis.client.Service
    Seems like server can't find */oracle/d01/oracle/VIS/db/tech_st/11.1.0/jlib/axis.jar* and related jars.
    Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
    We are using E-BS *12.1.1* instance and JDeveloper version is *10.1.3*
    regards, Yora

    look in the tutorial the web-client example or the dii interface example... and read all about jaxrpc ...

  • Getting error while extending controller

    Hi
    I have a task and i have the navigation like this.
    Search for a value >> get the value >> click on it >> go to the next page ( a form ) >> then validate a input field over there.
    So i have decided to extend the controller to achieve that. But when i am testing it locally using JDev the error i am getting is :-
    I have just written a SOP in the processFormRequest in the extending class.
      public void processFormRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
        super.processFormRequest(pageContext, webBean);
          System.out.println("Inside pfr");

    Please Help.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Chinmay.

    Hi keerthi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    The requirement is like this. I have to validate a field Quantity against decimal values.
    Navigation is like this
    TRE PURCHASING BUYER >> ORDER >> INCOMPLETE ORDER >> SEARCH >> Put values in search page >> get the values from there >> click on it >> UPDATE >> LINES >> FORM >> VALIDATE Quantity FIELD THERE.
    My approach is - for the particular page i have to see the PersonalizePage and get the Document Name out of there.
    The AboutPage  will show all the controller involved with the particular input field Number.
    Then have to see that xml file in the JDev and then extend the controller.
    Now for the time being i have written nothing after extending the controller.
    package xxifms.oracle.apps.po.document.order.webui;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.common.VersionInfo;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAControllerImpl;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAPageContext;
    import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.beans.OAWebBean;
    import oracle.apps.po.document.order.webui.OrderCO;
    * Controller for ...
    public class XxifmsOrderLinesTableRNCO extends OrderCO
      public static final String RCS_ID="$Header$";
      public static final boolean RCS_ID_RECORDED =
            VersionInfo.recordClassVersion(RCS_ID, "%packagename%");
       * Layout and page setup logic for a region.
       * @param pageContext the current OA page context
       * @param webBean the web bean corresponding to the region
      public void processRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
        super.processRequest(pageContext, webBean);
        System.out.println("Inside pr");
       * Procedure to handle form submissions for form elements in
       * a region.
       * @param pageContext the current OA page context
       * @param webBean the web bean corresponding to the region
      public void processFormRequest(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean)
    super.processRequest(pageContext, webBean);
        System.out.println("Inside pfr");
    But again a  problem is when i look at About Page. i find multiple Numbers of Quantity there and
    so cannot track which one is the one pointing my input field and thus cannot conclude which controller and view objects are associated with it.
        Controller                         ViewObject
    OrderLinesTableRNCO             PoLinesMergeVO
    OrderShipmentsTableRNCO            PoLineLocationsMergeVO
    OrderTopOUTotalCO               PoLineLocationsMergeVO
    So i don't know is there any problem of controller extend with the error or the error is independent of controller extension.
    As far i know if we have to validate a input field we can write the logic in ProcessFormRequest.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Chinmay.

  • Error while extending controller: class name is wrong or not included

    Hi All,
    I am getting this error while I port my extended controller class to the custom top and assign this controller to the page. I have made sure its the class file that is copied. The directory is correct, the permissions were given using chmod 775. There exists a soft link betwen the custom top and the oracle top as well. What else am I missing here?
    Error: oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: Could not create Java class: (oracle.apps.ap.oie.entry.webui.XXEntryFlowPageCO) associated with region: (GeneralInformationPG). This is probably because the class name is wrong or not included in project.

    :( Started out with that Gyan. If i do give the path with xx. appended to it, it lets me save and when i log back in and there are no changes to the page. I go to the personalise option to find the modification has been overwritten. I was told that this is so because Oracle doesnt recognise the xx.path and since there exists a soft link already the standard path with the new controller name should work.
    i have really tried both of these options and am not sure what could be wrong. thanks for all your attempts to help. anything else i can try?

  • Admin Personalization property and problem in Extending controller

    Hi,
    I am working on Oracle CMRO module R12.
    I have one OAF page.The path is as follows,
    */oracle/apps/ahl/prd/webui/UpdateWorkordersPG*
    I want to extend this page controller which is .*oracle.apps.ahl.prd.webui.UpdateWorkordersCO*
    but i have seen at PageLayout region, the Admin Personalization property is false.
    so i am unable to set extended controller.
    Is there anyother way to set controller at pagelayout if its Admin Personalization property is false.
    Could anyone throw any points on this?
    Regards
    Hitesh

    Thanks Annop for reply.
    If it can not assign extended controller at pageLayout region, if admin personalization property is false then how can i achieve my requirement?
    My requirement is to add one field in the page */oracle/apps/ahl/prd/webui/UpdateWorkordersPG* in R12 using personalization and when user clicks on Apply button, i have to save this field value in a database.
    How is it possible without extending controller?
    Can anyone throw some points on this?

  • How to test the extended controller and AM Object

    I added a button in a OAF page and extended the CO and AM. When we click this button, an XML Publisher concurrent program should be called and the PO will be displayed in PDF format.
    What is the best way to test this. Should I copy all the libraries from oracle/apps/... to my pc and attach or can I test without doing this. If so, what is the best approach.
    I am new to this.
    Thanks for your Help.
    HP

    I got the code ready for with extended Co java file. How can test this. How to generate the class file. Once I gerenarate the class file, if I ftp the file to cust/oracle/apps/pos/changeorder/webui and in the personalization if I attach this CO and run the page and click the button will this call the new CO? Yes after FTP the Contorller class file to appropriate path and attach the extended controller through personalization New Controller will get called.
    But DO REMEMBER TO BOUNCE THE APPACHE SERVER then only the extended Controller file get called.
    here is the link having steps to bounce it for Apps 11i.
    http://oracleanil.blogspot.com/2009/04/ncrimmessageproc.html
    Please let me know if these steps are correct..
    1. New OAWorkSpace
    2. New Project
    3. right click on project and click New class to generate the extended CO Class.Yes, It is right..
    Thanks
