Extending P60 Power

Hey all,
Any advice on extending the DC side of the P60 camera?  How far could I extend it, what size cabling, tolerance of the P60?
Thanks,
Justin

In general you have the power supply info and the generic camera power specs, as well as the info about the cable you want to use.
The voltage drop will be dependent on the cable type and length.
In doubt you could measure the power under load extended and not extended and compare it.
By spec it should be 12V
Mangling with the power supply will definitely void the warranty of the power supply if not of the camera / codec as well.
Regards Waynes pdf, the interesting part is the voltage drop and the resistance of the cable.
You will also find non metric information on the net, thats an untested, only goggled result:
http://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html
The cable should be the same or better.
I would recommend to supply the power supply as close to the camera as possible.

i need to extend the power and thunderbolt cables to my airmac

The battery stops charging when it reaches 100%, so there is no harm you can do. In fact, it's better to use your MacBook Pro plugged most of the time (but don't forget to use the battery daily).

  • How to extend the power cord of MacBook?

    Hi!
I know its a very silly question...!
but i don't know where to connect the the power cord extension on the power adapter...

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Disconnect the adaptor from the wall and the MacBook. Hold the adaptor in your left hand so that the cord going to the MacBook is on the left, and the power prongs are on the TOP right. Grasp the white plastic holding the prongs with the thumb and fingers of the right hand. Hold the whole adaptor flat and horizontal. Using the right hand, slide the prongs section horizontally AWAY from you. The prong section should just slide off. The power cord can then be fitted to replace the prongs by reversing the process.
    Hope this helps

Thanks for that link, I had been wanting to upgrade some things on my old G4, and they have just what I was looking for. Does anyone know if they put out good products?

  • Cisco Power Injector - AIR-PWRINJ4

Hi there, I have a quick question about Cisco Power Injector.
we bought a number of Air-PWRINJ4 year ago,  mainly for extending the power via Cat5 ethernet cable to AP 1225 in warehouse. the output is 56V 0.55A.
Now I have a couple of spare left, my quesiton is if it is OK to directly power 3502I AP, which requires imput 48V and .35A. from the bag of Air-PWRINJ4, it indecates that the 3500 series is also included.

HI Scott, thanks for the reply,  I have tested it works fine, but what will happen if we plan to use it for long run, does it will demage the APs?    in the packaging bag it says: Power Injector - AP 1140/1250/1260/3500 Series - SPARE
on the site I am setting up the AP, there is no POE switch and I don't have adapter with exact output for APs.

  • Using Airport Express to Extend a wired network using Belkin N Router

I have an ethernet/wired network in my home office and am using the Belkin N Router which is connected to the upstairs by ethernet also. I have a wireless network that the Belkin router uses to let me connect to the internet wirelessly if needed and I use it for my MacBook Pro inside the house but can't outside [the Belkin is connected to cablemodem].
I am trying to use my Airport Express to 'extend' the network from my home office out to my back deck by having it wirelessly be available [it is connected to main router/cable by ethernet/wired]. I have 5 bars on the Belkin Router wireless signal but very low unreliable bars from the Airport - either because it is not relaying the wirelss network of the Belkin router or it's not able to send its wifi signal from its ehternet/wired connection to the main router/cable modem, not sure which --
Short of pulling an ethernet wire outside to the back deck or getting an antenna to hang on my MacBookPro to better receive the home office wireless signal, is there a way to set up the AX soit can become an internet transmitter wirelessly of the wired network it is hooked to???
    I read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108040
but that didn't seem to help == and it appears the AX won't extend a non Apple wireless signal and I don't have one [tried the Extreme but it didn't work = the Belkin has been perfect = I can wirelessly connect in the room above the home office but would love to be able to use the AX to extend its power or at least use the wired linkage to then extend the power wirelessly....

    Hey

are descriptions of how to connect to 3rd party routers (not belkin but the way to connect of both is quite similar so it might possiby help you too.
Not using wep, wpa/ wpa2 during installation and connecting the AEXP to Mac or Lan Port of your router should help.

  • Using Apple USB Keyboard Extension Cable for Power

I have a USB keyboard extension cable. Part number is 591-0079. Can I use that to extend the power cable for my iPad when it is plugged in? Can I also use it for my iPhone?
I wanted to check first to make sure because it predates the iPad and the iPhone.
    Thanks any advance.

So there won't be any problems transferring power through it? It will charge iPad and iPhone without any trouble?

  • ThinkPad Tablet 10 power cord

    Hi,
I bought 3x ThinkPad Tablet 10 20C1, i thought that the power cord was USB to the adapter. My intention was to install it in a tablet stand, but the cord is too short. Is there a way i can extend the power cord? Any accessories available to extend the power cable to the Tablet?
    Regards,
    Carlos
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No it's not. Tablet 2 can charge via Micro USB cable; this feature was removed from Tablet 10 so that the more powerful proprietary ThinkPad laptop power cable employed by the TX40 series models can be used. Saying that, if you have one of the newest ThinkPad laptop models, you should be able to use its AC adapter cable to charge your ThinkPad 10 without any hassles.

  • RE1000 power light blinking after power failure

I've tried the 8 sec reset and the 30-30-30 reset but can't get the light to stop blinking and so can't connect to the unit. It was working fine before the power went out. Any suggestions?

I had the same issue after a power outage today. I online live chat with an agent for about 15 minutes until he provided me three options all about that I would have to pay extra to get it replaced or fixed because mine was just out of warranty yesterday. I was lucky enough because mine RE1000 was not dead completely. I followed the instructions in this community and restored its service successfully.
    Here is what I did.
    1. Reset the extender by 30-30-30 method. The LED still blinked after reset.
    2. Turned off wifi on my laptop and assign a static IP on my laptop: 192.168.1.x. Ping RE's default gateway 192.168.1.1 with an Ethernet connection. It returned good result.
    3. Log on Web Admin Page and I was prompted to upload its firmware. Followed the screen instruction to upload the firmware that I already downloaded previously. Waited until everything was finished and it rebooted. Volla. It was back to life.
I guess it might have lost the firmware somehow after power failure. Is there a battery inside the extender to power the flash rom?
Here are few instructions I followed up:

  • Difference between primary key and primary index

    Dear All,
Hi... .Could you pls tell me the difference between primary key and primary index.
    Thanks...

    Hi,
Primary Key : It is one which makes an entry of the field unique. No two distinct rows in a table can have the same value (or combination of values) in those columns.
Eg: first entry is 111, if you again enter value 111 , it doesnot allow 111 again. similarly for the strings or characters or numc etc. Remember that for char or numc or string 'NAME' is not equal to 'name'.
Primary Index: this is related to the performance .A database index is a data structure that improves the speed of operations in a table. Indices can be created using one or more columns, providing the basis for both rapid random lookups and efficient ordering of access to records. The disk space required to store the index is typically less than the storage of the table (since indices usually contain only the key-fields according to which the table is to be arranged, and excludes all the other details in the table), yielding the possibility to store indices into memory from tables that would not fit into it. In a relational database an index is a copy of part of a table. Some databases extend the power of indexing by allowing indices to be created on functions or expressions. For example, an index could be created on upper(last_name), which would only store the uppercase versions of the last_name field in the index.
In a database , we may have a large number of records. At the time of retrieving data from the database based on a condition , it is a burden to the db server. so whenever we create a primary key , a primary index is automatically created by the system.
If you want to maintain indices on other fields which are frequently used in where condition then you can create secondary indices.
    Reward points if helpful.
    Thanks,
    Sirisha..

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro - USB & Midi Issues

It all started when I recently bought a Pioneer DJM-900srt and switch from Traktor to Serato Dj. Now, I have been using my current Korg Nanocontrol for about 2 years problem free using manly Ableton Live 8 and Traktor Pro 2. Never needing to download any drivers and/or control editors. Fast forward to recently. Unknown to me at the time Serato Dj had some known issues with Midi mapping (that i should of researched more) but I went ahead and downloaded the latest Korn Nancontrol driver and control editor. Thinking 1) It might solve my Serato Dj problem and 2) what could it hurt? The second turned to be a nightmare.
So before I downloaded the driver and control editor I could plug in and unplug any of my midi usb devices, audio interfaces and Dj mixer in no specific order and at anytime and every thing would work and midi map as it was meant to. However, after downloading the driver all **** broke loose. While the driver was on my laptop none of my listed midi devices would connect properly and half the time the program would fail or just not open. I know you're not Allen & Heath but I also tried to download the latest driver from their website for my non working Xone 1D; Ableton, Serato Dj and Audio/Midi setup in utilities just will not open so i cant even tell if the midi devices are functioning properly. So I went on and deleted the Korg driver, editor and the Xone 1D driver.
After deleting the drivers and Korg control editor things now somewhat work but far from how they should. In order for things to function somewhat properly I must turn on the devices  in this exact order. Turn on the computer and let it fully boot up. Plug in via USB to my laptop and turn on the Djm-900srt. Plug in my USB 7 port extender (with power supply) plug in my Korg Nano and my Maschine Mikro into the extender and turn it on. Boot up Ableton to quickly check if the devices mounted properly. Open up either Traktor or Serato and rock the house. The Allen & Heath Xone 1D has been dead in the water since the initial Korg Driver instal.
I can get screen shots of anything if it will help after work today. Around 5pm CST
    Detailed specs:
    Computer-
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro6,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
    Dj Gear-
    Mixer - Djm-900srt
Midi Devices - Korg Nanokontrol 1st gen, Maschine Mikro 1st gen, Allen & Heath Xone 1D
P.S. Any new USB device will not function or be recognized.

Please help. I have racked my brain and I still can't figure out how to fix this. I cannot believe that 1 korg driver download permanently ruined my computer. I swear to everything holy that my computer was running like a well oiled machine before the download and Korg has been little to no help.

  • How to use MSI Afterburner

The MSI Afterburner is a great tool for monitoring your vga's health status as well as overclocking it including tweaking voltages.
    Monitoring
In case you came her with a vga related problems you might be asked to tell about the load and idle temps of your vga.
So first we focus on how to monitor temps.
First we start Afterburner and see this.
Just for monitoring we don't need the sliders visible as these are for tweaking/oc and we take care of that later. To the right there is a window with different graphs of all kinds of temps and voltages. There you can montiore the idle status but that won't really help you to see what happens in a game. You will only know about your temps under load in the moment your gaming and not when already leaving the game. At least the graphs will show the temps as a graph so you can read up temps of past times also but it is quite complicated to find the temp spike of the right time and read up the value.
It's easier to have the temps and voltages displayed in the game with an OSD (note: OSD doesn't work in 64bit applications). To get that work you need to activate it.
    First click on "Settings"
Now go to "monitoring" in the Settings menu
In "Active hardware monitoring graphs" you can choose what should be displayed in OSD.
On the left you have the possible graphs to be selected. When you click on a graph you activate it and the symbol next to it lights up. Now you have to choose the properties of that graph. That is done by clicking on "Show in On-Screen Display" or "Show in Logitech keyboard LCD Display" or "Show in tray icon". Choosing "Show in On-Screen Display" means the graph will be shown in the game while LCD means it will be shown on a supported LCD of a Logitech Keyboard (e.g. G510). These both options are therefor ideal to checkout load temps and voltages.
Please note that there is also a graph for Famerate to be activated to even monitor FPS in games
After setting the graphs you want to be displayed just click on "ok" and you are done. NOTE: Only graphs of sensors that can be read out can be selected. Some cards won't be able to support gpu voltage monitoring hence that graph can't be selected.
If needed you can also add hotkeys for the OSD in On-Screen Display. By clicking on "More" you have the ability to mod the look and layout of the OSD as well as setting up profiles.
Now after starting a game you can see the graphs selected displayed inside your game so you can see what happens while you are gaming and you can also find out how your vga's status will change in any game situation
    Fan control
After monitoring temps you might have seen too high temps and want to lower them or you want more cooling in oc attempts. Also could be you saw low temps but your card is very noisy because of high fan speeds. All that could make it necessary to change the fan speed manually instead of auto control
After deactivating  auto control by clicking on "Auto" you can move the slider between Min and Max to select the fan speed in %. Setting 68 therefor means fan will be running at 68% of it's full speed. After selecting click on "Apply" to apply the chosen fan speed.
Besides a static speed you can also program a custom fan profile with clicking on "Fan" in "Settings" afterwards just deactivate auto control and activate "User Define"
    Checking stability with Kombustor
Along with Afterburner the downloaded archive also contains Kombustor. Kombustor is a burn-in vga tool like Furmark which will apply very massive load to your vga and will reveal thermal and stability problems when letting it run for some time.
After installing you can start it out of Afterburner by clicking on the "K" to left
    Overclocking and Overvolting
With the Core Clock and Memory Clock sliders you can tweak the clockrates of the Gpu and the VRAM. The Mhz value selected adds or reduces the stock clockrates. That means e.g. setting +65 for Gpu will add 65Mhz to the stock clockrate. Setting -50Mhz will reduce the stock clockrate by 50Mhz. To apply your oc remember to always click on "Apply"
Overvolting with the overvolting slider will work the same way what means what you set will be added to the stock voltage. Note that overvolting gpu on Kepler (GTX600) is limited on non unlocked cards (Lightning/Hawk) to the nvidia max of 1.175v and setting anything else will therefor be useless.
If overvolting is greyed out and can't be changed you have to activate it in "Settings"/"General".
Simply check "Unlock voltage control" and "Unlock voltage monitoring"
NOTE: Despite mistakable informations on the web the only MSI Radeon 7850/7770 cards able to overvolt are R7850 Power Edition 2GD5/(OC) and R7770 Power Edition 1GD5/(OC). Due to technical restrictions all other 7850/7770 models can't be overvolted therefor overvoltage slider won't be available.
Triple overvolting will only be available with Lightning, Hawk or Power Edition cards and is a unique MSI feature that won't work with any other manufacturers card.
On supported cards you can access it (after enabling overvoltage, see above) when clicking on the grey symbol next to the voltage slider
the voltage slider will then change to triple overvoltage (core/mem/aux)
Note that triple overvoltage for Lightning and Power Edition GTX680 & GTX670 vgas will require Afterburner version 2.2.3, the latest GTX 660 & 650 cards will require Afterburner 2.2.4 or above. GTX680/770/780 Lightning users must use an unlocked Afterburner version for full triple overvoltage abilities (Nvidia gpu voltage limit). Until Version 3.0.0 Beta 17 a special SE variant was required. With 3.0.0 Beta 18 the SE version has been merged to the normal version. To unlock the advanced voltage settings simply go to "General" tab of the settings, check "unlock Voltage control and choose "extended MSI"
    Power Limit
The Power Limit slider is only accessible on GTX600 or above cards as it is required to modify the unique GPU boost feature. GPU boost is nvidia's auto oc feature for Kepler cards and will increase clockrate when not reaching the pre-defined TDP value under load. With the Power limit slider you can change the TDP limit in %. Anything over 100% will extend the limit and enable the gpu to boost clockrate while already at 100% TDP.
If the Power limit is not visible although you are using a GTX600 vga you chose the wrong afterburner skin in "Settings"/"User Interface" The Power Limit slider will only be visible with "Default MSI Afterburner Skin"
    ----> --->
    Temp Limit
With the new GeForce GTX7xx / Titan series vgas came an enhanced version of the boost introduced with GTX6xx vgas. Boost 2.0 adds a Temp Limit to the previous Power Limit. So now the available boost is not only determined by the Power Limit but also by the set Temp limit. To change the Temp limit you need a supporting version of Afterburner (3.00 Beta 10 and above). Click on the down arrow next to the Power limit slider and Temp Limit becomes available.
    --->
By default Temp limit is set to a target temp of 79°C what means anything below will allow max boost. Increasing Temp limit will allow boosting at higher temps. In standard configuration Power and Temp limit are linked what means increasing Power Limit will also increase Temp limit. If you want to change that and set individually uncheck "Link". Clicking on "Prioritize" you can decide if Temp or TDP Limit should be the primary factor to determine boost.
    Gaming APP
Another thing which needs to be kept in mind is that maximum clockrates for the latest GeForce GTX7xx Gaming requires running >>Gaming APP<<. Switch to Gaming Mode (N770 TF 2GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 770 GAMING)) or OC Mode (N780 TF 3GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 780 GAMING)) to allow maximum boost clockrates.
Oc Profiles and starting up with oc
After tweaking clockrates, voltages and power limit you can setup five profiles with these values. Just click on a profile number followed by clicking save. Now you can change between your profiles by choosing the number of it.
If you want to startup with the oc applied just click on "Apply overclocking at system startup" and make sure the green button left on that lights up in green.
    Dragon Army Skins
A nice modification for Afterburner are the new MSI Gaming series skins to adapt to the latest MSI Gaming lineup: http://game.msi.com/
Just download the skins >>here<< and copy them in your Skins folder in the MSI Afterburner main folder. After restarting Afterburner you can now choose the Dragon Army Skins in "Settings"/"User Interface". Dargon Army Skins are included by default from Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 18 and above and can there be chosen like shown before.

    Version update
Afterburner 4.0.0 final/stable is out. Click >>here<< for download.
This is a new official version.
SE version and normal are merged to one now

o   Improved skin compiler gives more detailed error messages when skin compilation fail due to error in some source image file
o   Source image file format is no longer limited to 24-bit BMP files only. Now skin compiler supports all possible bit depths for BMP format and fully supports PNG format with alpha channel
o   Added built-in bitmap effect for extracting alpha-channel from PNG image files
o   Skin format has been upgraded to v1.3. New format supports alpha channel based transparency for skinned window, allowing skin designers to define semi-transparent skin areas, apply antialiasing to the skin window edges and so on
o   Added new skinned window composition modes support and “Skin composition mode” settings to “User interface tab”. New settings allows you to use one of the following modes:
o   Traditional mode – suits best for backward compatibility with existing skins and performance testing
o   Layered mode with colorkey - provides much faster rendering of skins with non-rectangular window shape and additionally allows you to adjust transparency of skinned window
o   Layered mode with alpha – provides per-pixel alpha channel support and advanced visual effects for compatible skins and also allows you to adjust transparency of skinned window
o   Skin format reference guide has been updated to v1.7 to document these changes
o   Improved implementation of rollback to default skin
o   Full skins cross-compatibility with other overclocking applications based on RivaTuner engine. Special GUI transformation layer allows you to use the skins designed for third party RivaTuner based overclocking applications and makes the process of migration to MSI Afterburner from such overclocking tools much more comfortable for you. You can keep the look and feel of your preferred overclocking application and at the same time enjoy extended MSI Afterburner’s features including full range of supported graphics cards, industry leading powerful and robust monitoring module, flexible video recording features and many more
    •   RivaTuner Statistics Server has been upgraded to v6.2.0
The added MSI R9 280 series voltage control support might be what many of the users of these cards are waiting for as the majority lacked any overvoltage support so far. After release of 4.0.0 final there will be no more public betas of Afterburner but private testing as said before.

  • Are there suggestions for managing Multiple VMWare Fusion systems sharing files with a MacBook?  Suppose I have enough ram for 3 servers to share files.

Suppose I have enough ram for 2 or three VMWare fusion systems to that could benefit from file sharing.  Is it possible to configiure each VMWare funsion instance to have a common read only file share on my desktop and a common read/write area on on my desktop?
This would allow me to extend the power and mustle of my Mac Book Air, Retina Display system to its best advantage.  Whether native Mac processing or speciality linux or Windows systems as needed.
I am having trouble allowing more than one system to share the same read only and the same read/write areas so that software does the file locking and merge controls.  Even if these do not share a common read/write area, it would be truly handy for drive space management for them to share a common read only area.

It also depends on how you have set the vm up for networking. If you are setting it up as nat, instead of bridged, that can also cause problems access it from multiple system. With nat the vm is on its own network branch.

  • Who wants to be a moderator for LiveDocs 2.0?

As some of you may have heard, we’re doing something
quite a bit different this cycle with documentation. The changes
can be summarized as community, community, and community:
    - inclusion of links to external websites (like yours!) in
    Help
    - inclusion of external websites in search results, through
the Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) service
    - inclusion of non-Adobe personnel in the group of folks with
the ability to moderate LiveDocs comments and submissions to the
    CSE
The moderation tasks primarily consist of clicking Accept or
Reject for incoming comments and suggesting good resources for the
database of web addresses that can be searched using the Custom
Search Engine. These tasks shouldn’t take more than an hour
    per week.
Why, then, are we asking for help if the job is so small? We
think that y’all are likely to know about resources that we
internal Adobe folks don’t. This is especially the case
regarding resources in languages other than English and Japanese.
Also, by extending the power to suggest content to non-Adobe folks,
we think that we prove the truth of the statement that we’re
willing to put non-Adobe resources on equal footing with our
own---at least with regard to search.

  • Range Expander not working .. Desperately needed HELP

I just bought the wireless expander yesterday. At first, i followed the instructions which came with it. As my network is WPA-enabled, i insert the CDrom to start the utility. Everything went well and the utility was able to find my network and the wireless expander. My network had a boosted range after that.  However, after one of my family members accidentally pressed the auto configuration button, everything went haywired.
I tried to reset the wireless expander and start the utility again. However, this time,  the utility wasn't able to find the wireless expander.I tried it over and over again , to no avail.
I came to this forum and realized that quite a lot of people are facing the same problems as me. I followed the solutions as stated. I was able to get 2 blue lights lit after that. However, my laptop kept prompting something abt ip (can't remember the exact words) And i can't used the internet at all. I went on the forum and found the solution to it. I did what it says but it's still the same. So i decided to reset the wireless expander and at the same time taking note of the ip problem.
However, after i reset the wireless expander, whatever i did wasn't able to get the 2 blue lights lit. I have been at this for 6 hrs and on my way to madness.
Can someone help me out here?
My Modem : Motorola ( Can't remember the exact model)
    My wireless router : NetGear WGR614 v5
    My wireless expander : Linksys WRE54G v2
    What i did :
    1) I connected the wireless expander to my laptop using an ethernet cable. Thus, getting a lan connection.
    2) I changed the static ip address of it
    IP -- 192.168.1.155
    Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway -- 192.168.1.1
    3) I was able to access to http://192.168.1.240
    4) I changed the settings
    ok -- here's the problem ..
    When i run cmd --> ipconfig /all --> i get ip: 192.168.1.137
                                                                   subnetmask : 255.255.255.0
                                                            default gateway : 192.168.1.1
When i went to my wireless router settings it was  IP : 222.164.18.197
                                                                       Subnet mask : 255.255.248.0
                                                                       Default gateway: 222.164.16.1
I do not know which one to use , so i tried both settings. For the 1st one, everything went fine , until after the power cycle. The blue lights still did not lit up .
For the 2nd IP , i can't even get the webpage to change my settings.
I have tried a combination of things. Set the SSID to the same as my wireless router SSID . I have download the firmware and yet when i tried it , all 3 trys were used and nothing happened.
I have tried doing this over and over again , looking for a step that i might have missed , but i think that i have reached my wit's end..
    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

MINdReAdEr, yep you are in trouble with the unit. The WRE54G does a good job but it can be quirky to set up. When I bought mine from Amazon, i went first to the Customer reviews for info and I there found the right way(s) to install the unit. First of all, of course, forget about the CD instructions. Too frustrating when they start to backfire. ************************************ Better ways - got from Amazon (in fact, go there and search for WRE54G and see all review): ************************************ 1. The one below outlines easy installation if your network/wireless router are on the SAME SUBNET AS THE WRE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, i.e. 192.168.1.xx 279 of 285 people found the following review helpful: It does what it's supposed to, once you can set it up, August 1, 2004 By Anthony Taylor (Sherman Oaks, CA) - See all my reviews If you're having trouble setting it up, definitely call the 800 number as opposed to going online. I tried with three different people through their website online and none could help. Right before I sent it back I decided to try phone support and it got the expander a reprieve. I've copied some instructions that Y.A. Escalante was kind enough to leave in his review, but corrected and elaborated some of the items based on my experience. I would've given this 4 stars, but I deducted 1 for it not having clear enough instructions with its initial shipping. (Would've saved Linksys some headaches) Here goes: 1-Disable WEP on your Router or AP 2-Hold the auto-configuration button for 30 seconds(if everything goes well both lights on the expander will turn blue) and unplug while still holding button. Plug back in after 10-15 secs. 3-open your Internet explorer browser and type 192.168.1.240 (default ip of expander), a window will pop up. leave the user name blank and put admin as a password (this is default password). 4-make sure that the default gateway and subnet mask settings are identical with your Router or AP,change password on the expander if desired & save settings. (all settings should be correct due to auto configuration) 5-Enable WEP on the expander, once again remember use same settings as in your Router or AP, save settings again. 6-Go to your Router or Ap settings and enable WEP. Bang you're DONE. Enjoy Hope this helps some of you...if not call the 800 number on the box and be patient. ******************************** 2. The one I put together with help from forums and amazon customer reviews applies to cases where the Router and the network are on a DIFFERENT subnet than the WRE out of the box (mine for example is 192.168.0.xx), and also when you want to install the WRE WITHOUT doing anything to the wireless router on your network (I like that!): 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: WRE54G: as usual w. Linksys product, installation is rough, January 16, 2007 By Roger J. Thomas "WirelessInn" (ZUNI, NM United States) - See all my reviews I am getting to think that I buy Linksys products just because I am getting used to their idiosynchrasis - i.e. the products' installation instructions are basically somehow flawed (even though I am sure they work if one makes a few adjustments to what the manuals say!) I must also say that product reviews by users on Amazon.com are an excellent source of technical info/help. My setup consists of a Satellite (Hughes) internet service with corresponding modem, feeding into a WRT54G Linksys Wireless Router which in turn is connected via cat5 to a Desktop and wirelessly to a Dell Laptop. I have to mention that the range of the WRT54G (a stock v.5 unit) is very good as it is. I want to use the WRE54G to extend range. 0. DO NOTHING to your wireless router (mine is a WRT54G - see above) - leave Router's IP address/channel alone and encryption (WPA or WPE) in place if you are using such protection. That's what I like about those steps: no disruption of the wireless network's settings in use! Also, my wireless laptop is at WRE54G install time in range of the Wireless Router. NOTE: That Laptop can actually be any computer. Preferably however one normally used as wireless unit on the network including the Internet connection>B'Band Modem > Wireless router > and now the WRE54G. 1. Change the IP of that computer/laptop you are using to setup the WRE54G if needed - i.e. if that computer's IP (from the local LAN NIC, not the wireless card) is on another subnet than 192.168.1.xx. Use something like 192.168.1.1 for example. This is necessary to access the WRE54G's internal web screen (default: 192.168.1.240). Disable wireless on the computer you are usng to set up the WRE54G. 2. MAKE SURE that your internet connection DOES NOT at this time do through a proxy - mine normally does (Satellite Internet provider=Direcway/Hughes - proxy server advised/required). You have to dig really deep into Linksys EsyAnswer/KB site to even see that suggestion!! Momentarily disable proxy server in IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings. I.e. the wired LAN connection you are using to set up the WRE54G must not go thru any TCP/IP proxy. 3. Power up and connect the WRE (I have version 3) to that computer's newly re-IP'd LAN port (the WRE54G comes with a short cat5 cable). So, at this point, BOTH the WRE54G and your LAN connection are on 192.168.1.xx subnets. 4. Just to make sure that a LAN connection has been established, ping the WRE thus connected. Should return satisfactory result. (Again, the computer wireless connection should be disabled at this point) 5. Access the WRE's web screen via 192.168.1.240. Screen should come up. Defaut PW is of course admin at this time. 6. And now we are ready to enter specific information pertaining to your own wireless network, as follows: a. Enter - if necessary - the IP address you want the WRE54G to have on your wireless network - to be on same subnet as Wireless router used for your wireless network. My network is on subnet 192.168.0.xx: I set the WRE54G on IP address 192.168.0.240. b. Same with subnet and gateway c. Check mode (mixed/b or g only) d. SAME CHANNEL as the router e. Enter new SSID and enable/disable broadcast - same settings as Wireless Router's. 7. Now it is time to select/enter Wireless Security settings for the WRE54G: actually exact same settings as your Wireless Router's. 8. Change the WRE54G password while you are at it! Save settings and that's it! Finally unplug the WRE54G from power outlet AND LAN connection to the computer used to set up the Extender; locate/power up the WRE54G somewhere appropriatly a bit away from the laptop, in range of the Wireless Router, and in sight from the wireless laptop for initial testing (just so you can actually see if the blue lights come on: they should in the following sequence - top blue > top red/bottom blue > both blue if everything is OK.) To initially test-drive everything, I placed the WRE54g about 30ft from the Wireless Router and 20ft from the wireless laptop (which I make sure still connects to the Wireless Router.) 9. Now re-enable the wireless connection on the computer used to set up the WRE54G. Experiment with the new connection with the WRE54G. It should kick in as the stronger connection right away (if you are CLOSER to the WRE54G then the router). You'll see that when you are connecting to/using the WRE54G to connect to your Wireless Router, the signal strength is indeed higher. In fact, if you can run NetStumbler (free wireless detection software) and thus run a Site Survey, you'll see that two APs show up, same network SSID (i.e. the Wireless Router and the WRE54G, now considered as an AP itself). Of course the WRE54G will show much stronger signals. 10. Then if all is OK, experiment with placing the WRE54G as suggested otherwise - i.e. at the periphery of the wireless range obtained by just using the Wireless Router. 11. Seems to work so far. I do not otherwise detect loss of signal or b'band speed. This thing does work. I have placed the WRE54G in many different locations and I am truly AMAZED at its range extension potential. NOTE: I assume that in case of presence of signals from BOTH the Wireless Router and the WRE54G at a given location (since both devices are on same channel/SSID/Protection scheme), one might have to reset the wireless connection on the remote(s) laptops (or to reboot) to allow it(them) to pick just one (the stronger of course) connection. I was looking all along for a way to set up the WRE54G without having to go thru the rigamarole of changing other settings elsewhere on the network, using the dreaded Install CD or other cumbersome procedure! As I change my encryption WPA code often, I'll just have to change that info in one more device (besides my WRT54G and the Linksys wireless bridge WET54G - another excellent, not cheap Linksys product which i recommend also and which I use to make my Sat internet service available to another building on my business premises). Simple enough however! Note: you can also use that device to allow a web access to a computer that does not have a wireless card: plug the WRE54G into elect outlet, make sure that the unit is in range of the wireless network, connect a LAN cable from the WRE54G to the card-less computer, and voila, ths computer can get online. **************************************** Hoping this helps! - Roger T
