Extending text box

Hi
I am new to this, so I apologise in advance if this has already been asked and answered, but is there some way when building a form in Adobe Acrobat 9 pro to get the text box to extend with the text instead of a scroll bar, which does not let you print what is beyond the text box.. Any help at this stage is much appreciated
cheers
Jo

Hi Bernd.. sorry I could nto get back to you yesterdau as I live in Melbourne AUS
yes my question has been answered, but now I have more questions
1- Can I add text parts in a LC form that automatically populate in other areas of the form such as the footer?
2- How do I get the expanding text to cross over to the next page
3- Can I have hidden text within the form as I do in pro 9
Would it be easier to send you the form to have a look at let me know what are my limitations are

  • Can you extend multiple over set text boxes at once?

    I am in the process of changing many large Indesign files from MAC to PC which has created, in some cases, hundreds of over set text boxes.
    I'm looking for a faster way of fixing these files as extending each of these text boxes one by one is taking up a lot of time. I am currently using the pre-flight panel.
    I have Indesign CC 2014.1.

    Not the answer to your question, but merely moving from Mac to PC should not be causing text to go overset. Seems likely you've got a font substitution, or perhaps you've also changed the version of ID, or both.
    Do you have an object style assigned to the text frames? Perhaps redefining the style to include auto-sizing will solve the problem.

  • BUG : Can't change properties (font, size, etc.) in Text Box (Acrobat Pro Extend 9.3.4)

    Here is a bug in Acrobat 9. It's really frustrating :
    1- Open any PDF file.
    2- Select the Text Box tool and type something.
    3- Notice that you can change the font using the Properties toolbar (CTRL + E).
    4- Open a second PDF file.
    5- Select the Text Box tool and type something in this document.
    6- Notice that you can change the font using the Properties toolbar (CTRL + E) also.
    7- Switch back to the first opened PDF file.
    8. Try using the Properties toolbar.
    YOU CAN'T BECAUSE THE TOOLBAR IS DISABLED!
    There is nothing you can do to make it enabled again.
    This bug seems to be present since Acrobat 8 and the Acrobat Developper Team did not fix it yet. I am a programmer and I know that you need only 5 minutes to fix this bug. WHY IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET???
    It's horrible to deal with this bug...
    I hope Acrobat Developper Team heard me and will fix this ASAP.
    Thank you.

    We have had tons of discussions about this problem.  I would love it if Adobe would fix this problem.  In the meantime, one thing we are testing in our environment, and we think it is successful, is to set Preferences to "never view in PDF/A mode'.  Maybe that can help you.

  • Expanding Text Box

    Good afternoon,
    I've recently converted an old Wordperfect document to PDF.  The form has many fillable fields, which have been setup and are working fine.  In the middle of the page, however, there is a place for the person to put in a narrative.  There is no maximum or minimum for this narrative, so it is possible for the narrative to extend beyond the space that the PDF currently has allotted for it.  Is there a way to have the text box expand to another page if the person continues typing?  After this narrative, there is more information that they must fill out, so this information would have to flow over to the next page, too.
    Thank you!

    Not with a form you create with Acrobat, but you can do that with a dynamic XFA form you create with LiveCycle Designer, which comes with Acrobat Pro. If you want to go this route, post in the LiveCycle Designer forum here.

  • Text wrap for a paragraph: How to define the width of a Text box /  active text area? I simply need a longish text to wrap within the frame!

    Hello, I've been searching for a good while in the forums now, but have found no solution or real mention of the problem – I hope some of you can help.
    I want to very simply layout a text between scenes, a slightly longer text that wraps within the frame margins. Here's an example of how I want it to look:
    Now, I couldn't for the life of me get the Custom Text to behave like that, as there are no parameters to set for the width of the text area. The Text Size, yes, along with the Tracking, Baseline and all that, but the width of the text box, no. The above was created by customizing one of the other Text Generator presets that happened to be left aligned.
    However, this preset has a fade in/fade out transition, which I do not want. There's no way to remove this transition as it seems integrated into the Text Generator (meaning they are not really presets, but separate kinds of Text objects? Very silly.)
    So I am asking you: Is there any way to get the Custom Text generator to behave like that? Just a text paragraph as above. Below you'll see all I can manage with the diffferent Custom Text parameters. Any kind of repositioning and resizing of the text just changes the position and size of the frame – but the actual text items are just cropped off where they extend out of that frame. Apparently the bounding box for the text is just some default length, and I can't find any way to adjust the width. See below my different attempts.
    The same text pasted into a Custom Text generator clearly extends outside the frame:
    Here Transform just moves – or resizes – the video frame that the Text Box exists inside:
    The Crop gives similar results, and of course Distort doesn't get me closer to what I need, either. There should be simply a Text Box Width parameter to set somewhere, but if it exists they have hidden it very well. How do you do it?
    Thanks for any help, this is a silly problem, but one of now many trivial problems that amount to me growing quite dissatisfied with FCPX. Hopefully I've just overlooked something.
    All the best,
    Thomas

    Thomas...same kind of crap here.
    I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
    Set to 72 pt.
    The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
    There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
    Using Transform will not sort it!

  • How to populate a default value in Text box depending on Poplist selection

    We have a requirement to populate a default value in a Text Box when user chooses a value from poplist (of type MessageChoice adjacent to the Text Box). This page is a Oracle Seeded Page. I understand that this is not possible using personalization. Can please someone guide me as to how should we proceed for this.

    Can I add PPR event to the standard page?
    YesAlso Can I change the Controller code of the standard page to catch the PPR event?
    You need not change the controller, you can extend the controller!Although Oracle discourages extension of controller, but as of now there is no other alternative! These controller extensions will mostly survive upgrades, as Oracle won't be removing all base controller classes.Is it allowed to make changes in standard XML page and import it once again?
    No, standard UIXML should not be changed. But y would u need that, you cando the Ui changes with personlization and if needed programitically in process request method of controller, by takeing control on that particular bean!
    I hope i have resolved your queries.

  • How to get the computer name in a text box automatically?

    Hi,
    I am using flash cs4 (AS3). How can I get the computer name/username in a text box created for grabbing Username from the computer and show it in the username textbox automatically?
    Thanks.

    You can't running a SWF on a webpage. Can you imagine if a SWF had access to that OS-level information? It breaches everything Flash, browsers and the web stands for, which is "not being an application", therefore it has absolutely no access to your computer. Especially information like your username.
    If you're running a flash projector, that's different. Not that a projector can do that either, but projectors are applications and can be extended by things like MDM Zinc and ScreenTime mProjector. Going that route opens up the constraints on Flash Projectors and lets you tap into things like .dlls. Only via that route are you going to be able to get at such a low level item like the current logged on user.

  • How do you save text in a text box?

    So I'm supposed to set up these PDF forms so that people can fill them out online and save/print them. I added a bunch of text boxes and checkboxes, which all work, but when I filled out a test form, saved it, closed it, and reopened it, the boxes were blank once again for some reason. Is there anything I can do to make sure that these changes will stick? By the way, I'm very Adobe/computer inexperienced, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Below is a sample file. Thanks!

    Go to advanced menu and choose Extend Features in Reader Then set appropriate items.
    Save then try.
    Should be able to save. Caution: make sure you have no mistakes in your form as you will have to remove rights in order to edit.

  • Help on resizing text boxes and general image techniques

    Using CS2.
    I have two basic questions.  One has to do with getting the best vector images (with text) that I can for placement in InDesign documents.  The other has to do with the specifics of working with text boxes in FW.
    The easiest way for me to produce vector images has been by using PowerPoint.  I do all the graphics work and then save it as a gif.  I do cropping in a graphics tool (Irfanview, PS) and then insert or place the image.  As long as there is no resizing, things work well.  I'm not sure how things like DPI are controlled using this technique but I'm assuming that also would be done with the graphics tool.  I know Irfanview allows for the dpi to be specified during resizing.
    The problem starts to show up when the gif object is resized.  Things get distorted and I lose the crispness of the image contents.  I'm certainly not an expert on graphics however I've been thinking I either need to 1) make the actual size of graphics in PP the size of the final placed image so there is no resizing (just some cropping) or 2) to work in a tool like FW where (I'm assuming) there are better capabilities to resize vector graphics.  My sense (again, not an expert) is that the process I'm using converts to vector graphics in PP to a bitmap image in the gif and that resizing doesn't work as well for bitmaps as for vector objects.  Do I have that right?
    Moving on to question 2:
    Can text boxes be resized in FW without distorting the text?  Can their size be seen when originally drasing them?  Perhaps spoiled by PowerPoint, I like to set the width of vector objects (e.g. rectangle) and the width of the text that will fill it to the same size.  (I know PP has the ability to put borders on text boxes but when working in FW I need to work with 2 objects, the rectangle and the text box).  Say I have a rectangle that is 81px wide.  Can I set a text box to 81px wide without distorting the text?
    I tend to want to control actual object sizes so I can get good spacial alignment.  For example, I tend to set the width of a text object to an odd number of px so that any line coming out of the text object aligns well with the text.  I must admit that it may be time for me to use a different technique in FW (e.g. more alignment of multiple objects vs. knowing dimensions and seting locations).  Does my approach need improvement?
    Thanks for any advice
    Tom

    As I wean off of PP I've started looking at FW and Illustrator (I have both).  I've done a logo or two in FW and have used it to build some simple web graphics (e.g. buttons, menus).  It can, as I recall, be a little more complex than what I need in this case.
    Since PP is not a graphics program, its drawing capabilities are very limited. As a consequence, any graphics application will have many more features than you're used to seeing and more than you need for any one project.
    I did a little experimenting with Illustrator and my first impression is that it will work better for me for this work.  It seems a little more intuitive.
    Is a general guideline to use FW for web-destined graphics and Illustrator for what I used to do in PP?
    Your suggested guideline is good. Also, note that if you make a logo or vector graphic in Illustrator (saving as .ai format), you can import that into Fireworks and work with it as a vector object there. FW can import and use, just not create, .ai objectes and files.
    FW has some vector tools, they are tucked away under Window > Others > Path. Since FW is intended for producing Web graphics, it is a hybrid application, capable of both vector and photo/image editing. Given that it has some of both, it necessarily doesn't have everything that Illustrator has nor everything that Photoshop has. It has most the features of both of those programs, as long as the feature is useful for a Web graphics designer. For pure photo editing Photoshop has the edge; for pure illustration, Illustrator has the edge. Both Photoshop and Illustrator support color profiles and other features important for print that Fireworks does not. All are good programs, but there are reasons to prefer one over the other depending on what kind of graphics you need to create or work with and what your intended use of the work is. (But any of them will be superior to PowerPoint! )
    I'm not sure I can unravel the mystery with the text box resizing.  I suspect theres an option selected.  Knowing it can be done is enough for me to do some homework.
    Maybe...don't think of text boxes at all. You have text objects. The object has a bounding box that is determined by the underlying definition of the font, but it isn't in a text box. (Sometimes swooshs will extend beyond the defining box of a character in the font, but that is another issue). The bounding box for the text object is similar to the bounding box of a circle or a star or an irregular shape. There's a reference box for the dimensions, but the text is not inside some other independent container.
    To resize, select the text object and change the font size either using the Properties palette or using the scale tool to drag on a corner of the scaling outline (different from the bounding box, and I don't know why, sorry).
    I think that,with Illustrator, you can define text boxes (or other shapes) and fill them with text. *searches* Ah.. Like these: http://school.tatoland.com/illustrator/aitype.html

  • Pdf form keeps overwriting it's text boxes

    I'm able to enter characters in a text box, but the same characters go in to all the text box fields in my pdf. Meaning my name is in 10 different form boxes. And as soon as i move to another text box all that was previously written is overwritten - so my email for example overwrites my name and all the other fields. It's incredible annoying. I'm not sure what to do.
    This is my first mac and I'm not sure if I'm doing something worng, but it seems like it would be pretty straight-forward.
    I'm using Preview and Google Docs in Lion and do not have acrobat pro.
    Any advice?

    Thanks for the reply George.  You're correct, this is an XFA form created with LiveCycle Designer.  Could you recommend an API and code sample that would preform the actions I've discussed above that would work on an XFA form?
    My end goal is simply to fill the template's fields, save as a new file, and then send the file to clients to view via Adobe Reader.  I've tried using ITextSharp and it filled in the form and saved it, however anyone viewing the file with Reader received the following message:
    "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has
    been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer
    available. Please contact the author for the original version of this
    document."
    Any guidance on how I can fill in this XFA form so it's viewable by clients with Adobe Reader would be much appreciated.

  • Timing of text box will not appear.  My text boxes stop working on slide 5 and they will not work for the remainder of the slide show.

    Timing of text box not working.  I get the first few slides to work and then on slide 5 my text boxes will not appear.  And they do not appear for the rest of the slide show.   Help anyone.

    Text caption is timed to appear at 2 seconds, but you have a click box at 0sec. Its duration is very short, which means that I cannot see if there is a pause. I suspect this click box is pausing at the end of its timeline, which is at 0.3secs and the Text caption at 2 seconds will not appear before the user has clicked on that click box. The timeline is the core of Captivate, learn at least how to read it.
    Tiny Timeline Tidbits - Captivate blog
    If you want the green text caption 'Click on...' to appear right at the beginning of the slide, you have to check its Timing accordion: set it to start at 0 secs instead of 2 secs and extend its duration to the 'rest of the slide'.
    I don't know what is in the Group. That group and the HIghlight box will disappear at 3 seconds. Or maybe the action that is triggered by the Clickbox is different from 'Continue'?

  • Text Box in SSHR

    Hello
    We have a requirement where employee has to enter coaching feedback. Feedback text may be bit long and i am using EIT to store it. Now the issue is that we can have max 150 characters in one line and we need to put multiple lines so that employee can enter the more text. However i want to know if there is any way to put Big text Box or any way to combine 2-3 EIT lines so that we can display one text box instead of multiple lines.
    I know that employee can attach the file also in case he want to put more text but just want to explore the opportunity if there is way to put a big text box in SSHR.
    Thanks
    Gaurav

    Yes, a VO is a View-Object in OAF terminology. You need to use JDev for your requirement to extend the VO.
    VO is nothing but a Sql statement, but wrapped in a container for Java.
    You'll have to gro through the OAF guide for more details.

  • Centering text vertically in text box

    When you open a text box how do you center the text in the middle from top to bottom(vertically), not left to right. The text starts immediately in the top left corner. I need it in the center of a predefined text box size, so that if you drew a line across the center of the box from left to right, the top half of the letters  would be above the line and the bottom half would be below the center line. In other words there should be the same distance above the words to the top edge of the text box, as to the bottom of the text box, from the center.

    Thanks for the reply. Let me start by saying I am definitely a newbie with Photoshop. So if you could explain what I should do in PS that would help. I'm using CS6 Extended. I really don't know the difference between Paragraph text and Point text, and not sure what you mean when you ask is this for an Action.
    I selected the "T" Horizontal type tool, and drew a box. Then I started typing. It looks like my selections are left align, center align, and right align. But it does not Center it in the middle of the box. The text is still at the top of the box. I have to have the box a certain size because of the project I'm working on. I'm assuming the text I'm selecting is what you are calling Paragraph Text. How do you use Point Text.
    It's basically the spine on a book cover. You place the Title and the Authors name there, but you have to make sure it fits within the spine width, and is centered in that area. Like if you were looking at the side of a book, the title/author should be centered along that spine from top to bottom.
    Thanks!

  • Access of undefined property (dynamic text box)

    Hi guys,
    I have a movie clip working as a button that is disabled after click. I need to add a scoring option, so that on click it also adds to the score. When I add the scoreGame function, it says the text box is undefined. Ideas?
    Here's the code:
    package
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              import flash.events.MouseEvent;
              public class DisablingButtons extends MovieClip
                        var labels:Array;
                        var thisParent:*;
                        var score:Number = 0;
                        var goalScore:Number = 8;
                        public function DisablingButtons()
                                  trace("it's working!");
                                  labels = this.currentLabels;
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, scoreGame);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, disableButton);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, over);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, out);
                        function scoreGame(myEvent:MouseEvent):void
                                  score++;
                                  score1.text = String(score);
                                  if (score == goalScore)
                                            gotoAndStop(201);
                        function disableButton(event:MouseEvent):void
                                  for (var i:int = 0; i < labels.length; i++)
                                            if (labels[i].name == "disable")
                                                      this.gotoAndPlay("disable");
                                  this.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, disableButton);
                                  this.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, over);
                                  this.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, out);
                        function over(event:MouseEvent):void
                                  for (var j:int = 0; j < labels.length; j++)
                                            if (labels[j].name == "over")
                                                      this.gotoAndPlay("over");
                        function out(event:MouseEvent):void
                                  for (var k:int = 0; k < labels.length; k++)
                                            if (labels[k].name == "out")
                                                      this.gotoAndPlay("out");

    When you instantiate the class in your fla, you would pass the textfield to the class...
    import DisablingButtons;
    var btn:DisablingButtons = new DisablingButtons(score1);
    addChild(btn);
    And in your class file you would need to adjust it to accept the textfield such as what I show below.  Just realize that I have manipulated the naming to preserve your score1 name at both ends of your code by naming the argument that the class sees differently (txt).  Otherwise I would have normally used a differewnt variable name within the class than score1
    package
              import flash.text.TextField;
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              import flash.events.MouseEvent;
              public class DisablingButtons extends MovieClip
                        var labels:Array;
                        var thisParent:*;
                        var score:Number = 0;
                        var goalScore:Number = 8;
                       var score1:TextField;
                         public function DisablingButtons(txt:TextField)
                                  trace("it's working!");
                                  score1 = txt;
                                  labels = this.currentLabels;
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, scoreGame);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, disableButton);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, over);
                                  this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, out);

  • Adobe Form :  Extended text area

    Hi,
    My client requested an interactive adobe form where they can enter text like a word file. Once the layout field comes to an end, the text area should be extended automatically for them to key in more text. is it possible. Please advice.
    Thanks
    Maanu

    Hi Ashwini,
    I have the similar kind of requirement, where I am displaying the Notification longtext fro SAP. I have made the text box editable, so that the user can input as many text lines as he wants. This is client's requirement.
    I have wrapped my textbox in a Flowed subform and also checked the Expand to fit property for the text box.
    But still my text box's height is not dynamic. The height of the box is fixed according to the no of lines coming from SAP. If I want to add more lines, the box is not increasing in height. Similarly, when I am deleting some of the text, the box size is not reducing.
    Do you have any idea, how can I achieve this requirement?
    Do I need to use script for this? Or I can achieve this without scripting?
