Extending user details: Label in user Profile

Hello,
I have followed the document "How to Extend User Details" to add custom properties to user details. However, although it is possible to add labels to the user details iView (which you can access from KM), it does not seem possible to add labels for these properties on the User Profile (which you access through Personalize->User Profile).
I have checked <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?forumID=42&threadID=129068&messageID=1443674">this</a> post, and the answer refers to the User Details iView, not the User Profile maintenance.
Regards,
Martin

Hello Anja,
This is a nice surprise (I remember you from your visit here to SA Breweries).
The labels display fine in the User Details iView, but in Personalise -> User Profile, only the field names show up, the way they have been defined, e.g. expertarea, as opposed to "Expert Area", just as in the screenshots in the How-To Guide. The entries save without a problem.
In other words, the field labels show up just as you defined them in UM Configuration, but you have no ability to change them to proper descriptive texts (as you would with KM property labels).

Martin

  • WebCenter Spaces – Extend User Profile Page

    Hi All,
We have a requirement to modify the default user profile page in WCS.
We have to remove most of the fields and add additional fields that are specific for the customer. According to the extending the WCS white paper you can only get / set the data in existing fields based on creating a customProfileattribute.
Is this possible at the current stage of evolution of WCS?
    Cheers
    Bob

In my current project, we have similar requirement.
    To Remove existing attributes:-
You can hide profile fields after customizing User/My Profile Pages from WCS -->Administration --> Pages-->System Pages. See following guides:-
7.3 Working with System Pages: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10149/admin_pages.htm#CJABBBCE
30.5 Viewing and Editing Personal Profiles: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10149/profile.htm#CHDDIHJG
    To Add new attributes:
You can add new fields in profile page of WebCenter Spaces by using SampleWebCenterSpacesExtensions application. You can take instructions from following guide:-
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/owcs-ps3-wcs-ext-samples-wp-308576.pdf. There are following two class files in ProfileAttribute project
    a. ExtendedProfileAttributes (You need to add new LDAP attributes in this class)
    b. CustomProfileImpl (You can override existing attribute by using this class)
Once you done adding new attributes in ExtendedProfileAttributes, deploy this project as a shared-lib. Then you have to follow following guide in order to see your changes in WebCenter Spaces:-
53 Extending WebCenter Spaces Using JDeveloper: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_wcsres.htm#CHDEECCE

  • Unable to extend the User Profile

    Hello,
I would like to extend the User Profile.
In order to do that I followed this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a3/d2ffd64602c149949ca3cf379dc295/frameset.htm
It explains that in order to do that, I need to modify the ume.admin.addattrs property. I tried to modify it like this:
    ume.admin.addattrs=Room Number
    and like this:
    ume.admin.addattrs=com.sap.security.core.usermanagement:Room Number
restarted the engine but on both cases when I go to the UME console I don't see that this attribute has been added to the Customized Information as it should.
    Any idea why?

    Hi Roy,

  • Edit own extended user details

I have implemented the "How To Extend User Details" guide.
Now I need to give the users an Iview to edit these new fields. The Personalize -> User Profile just isn't doing it for me.
How do I create an iView that lets the user maintain these fields?

    Hi Robert,
The way I have been thinking of doing it is using property structures to represent a resource representing the user in /ume/users to the user to edit and save.
This is similar to your solution in your presentation "Creating Contact Lists..." where you use the com.sapportals.wcm.rendering.uicommand.cm.UIPropertiesCommand command with the PropertyStructure= parameter.
The problem is, how do I do this (programatically)? The user should not have to navigate via /ume/users to find their user to edit.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi,
If you get the error message, please check the SharePoint ULS log to find more information about this error, the ULS log file is in the location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft

  • Displayed data in User Details vs. Information entered in User Profile

    Hello All,
    I am running Portal 7.0 SPS13.
In my Users Profile tab "Additional Information" I entered:
    Organizational Unit:  NIS
    Position: Consultant
    Department:  <is greyed-out / not editable>
In my Users Details tab "Company" I only see:
    Job Title: Consultant
    My Questions are:
    1) Why do I only see the Information from "Position"
    2) The greyed out field "Department" is not filled (I guess at this point that it gets filled with the department information from the MS ADS (LDAP). But it's not.  Whoever the telephone information from the MS ADS is transferred to the regarding UME fields
Thank you in advance for your help and hints.

  • W7: User Profile Service service failed at log on: Apparently W7 is no longer creating any user profile data other than username and picture.

First time poster, but I think I've done my homework on this issue.
This issue has similar symptoms to a problem with vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/130095-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html
However, it is definitely not the same issue (see further).
    Current Config:
    HP dv7-1450.
    W7 RC 7100 x64
Last update (up to date as of 8/31/09) installed succesfully 8/26/09 and should be unrelated to this issue (not verified yet by a pre-update restore).
Running with Admin account while diagnosing/troubleshooting.
Currently have two working accounts, one standard, one admin.
    Symptom:
New user accounts cannot be logged into.  On an attempted login to the new account, the following information is displayed on the login screen:  "The User Profile Service service failed the logon.  User profile cannot be loaded."  Windows then logs off the operator and returns to the initial user selection screen.  All other aspects of use are normal.
    Current Diagnostics:
First attempts to resolve this problem were to recreate the new account.  This was attempted when logged in as both Standard and Admin.  This was also attempted under safe mode.  This has been attempted with virus protection disabled.  All to no difference in the symptom.
The similarity to the Vista issue (linked above) caused me to check the registry entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\ for the new profile (as suggested by that link).  Unlike that issue, there simply is no entry for the new user.  Examination of the new log entries from creation of account to attempted log in provides the following entries:

This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
    DETAIL - Access is denied.
Naturally I started with the earliest error first, and decided to look to see what is going on.  The file that is trying to be copied is there, but the destination folder does not exist.  As near as I can tell, whatever process (the User Profiles General Service?) is trying to perform the copy does not have sufficient access to perform the operation.  Specifically I suspect it may not be able to create the appropriate folders before performing the copy.  Interestingly, it appears that when windows attempts to open/create a temporary account profile, the same issue occurs.  Since there is no registry entry either, I suspect that the issue also extends to the creation of registry keys, but I am not familiar enough with the sequence of events in the creation of a user profile to determine if this would come before or after a user profile's first login.
I attempted to find more information, and was able to investigate the UPS diagnostic event log (for a different, but identical attempt at creating and using the new profile).  The following two (unhelpful to me) log entries were generated.
Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task Category
Information 8/31/2009 12:34:10 PM Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service 1002 (1001) "The description for Event ID 1002 from source Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
The message id for the desired message could not be found
Information 8/31/2009 12:34:09 PM Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service 1001 (1001) "The description for Event ID 1001 from source Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
It seems to imply that the User Profiles Service may be corrupted, but this may also be unrelated.  I do not know how to specifically repair this service anyway (but am open to try it if someone can walk me through it a bit).
There's the info.  I'd like to figure out how to watch the account creation process in more detail to see if I gleen more, but I don't have the experience to know what to do to enable such a log.  I will not perform a reinstall and am loath to do a restore, instead looking more for a cause and effect repair: something that would actually help MS fix the problem rather than have the customer fix the symptom.
    Thanks in advance to responders!

  • IWork, 1 computer, 2 user profiles, both prompted for license...

I recently purchased the Single User iWork 08 for my MacBook Pro. I installed it as one user profile (prompted for Administrator authentication), and completed the installation. When first started up a iWork 08 application I was prompted for the license key, which I entered... I later quit the application.
I logged out and logged in as another user profile on the MacBook Pro and attempted to start one of the iWork applications, and was surprised to get the license key prompt again.
Where does the license key have to be located so that all my user profiles on my MacBook Pro no longer get prompted for the key?
    Thanks!

I think you probably went wrong when you checked the single profile / user box on installation; whether this can be corrected through Preferences or require reinstallation I don't know. Copied below is an extract of the licence agreement which refers to the number of computers rather than the number of profiles used on each, so I think you should be OK- you may however need to re-install.
    B. iWork Single User License. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software (whether trial or full version) on a single Apple-
labeled computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple
Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. You may make one copy of the Apple Software in
machine-readable form for backup purposes only; provided that the backup copy must include all copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the
    original.
    C. iWork Family Pack License. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled
computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household"
we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium. This license does not extend to
students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users. You may not make the Apple Software available over a network.

  • How To Properly Delete a User Profile on Windows 7 in a Domain environment

I have not been able to find an answer that matches the issue I'm facing. I had recently setup a laptop for a user and soon after, he was experiencing issues that I thought might be profile related. So, I did what always worked for me on prior versions of
Windows without any fuss or side affects.
Logged in under the local Administrator account, I went into: System Properties>User Profiles>Settings and removed the user profile from their. When I do that, I get an error message:
    Profile Error
Profile not deleted completely. Error - A required privilege is not held by the client
Ok, no problem I think. I just need to delete the user's profile directory under the users folder right? So I do this and figure when I try to log in again as the user that a new profile will be created. However, this is not what happens exactly. I login
with the user credentials and it logs in successfully. However, I get a pop saying:
You have been logged on with a temporary profile
You cannot access your files and files created in this profile will be deleted when you log off. To fix this, log off and try logging on later.
Please see the event log for details or contact your system administrator
So my question is; why did the profile not delete completely after both deleting the user profile under System Properties and after deleting the actual profile directory? What did I miss and what is the proper method of deleting a user profile completely
without running into these other issues?

    Hi Womprat,
According to your description, I understand that you want to delete user profile but display an error in Windows 7.
Please use other user (with administrator privileges) login this computer, then open Properties for Computer--->Advanced system setting--->Settings for User Profiles, then select the profile you want to delete.

    Hi  VlH,
According to your description, the issue can be caused by the Profile or Profile Values table.
You can check the event log and ULS log to see detail error message.
To check event log, click the Start button and type “Event Viewer” in the Search box.
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

User profiles can be used to fetch the user Manager, department, Title in SharePoint designer workflows.
This is not available in SharePoint 2013 workflow. However i can create 2010 workflow in SP2013 Sites, is there any way to get the user information from SharePoint 2013 workflow or Sharepoint 2013 in general to fetch the user details from Active Directory

In addition to using Workflow Custom Activity to get User Profile properties, you could try using REST API web service. Please refer to Rajkumar's step in the thread below:

  • Not able to import User Profile Property via BDC Connection

I want to fill some of the user profile properties via BDC Connection. I already have created more than 50 user profiles which I imported from AD. Now, in order to import profiles properties using BDC, I performed below steps:
    a) Ensured Business Data Connectivity and Secure Store are running and used account has Full permission on these services.
    b) Created an external content type using SharePoint Designer and created an external list to ensure that data is available:
Set email field as identifier, which is one of the columns in SQL table and is a primary key.
Created Read Item and Read List operations on above ECT.
    c) Checked the presence of above ECT in BDC service and ensured it has all necessary permissions i.e. Edit, Execute etc.
    d) Configure a new synchronization connection in User profile Service by selecting the same ECT. Here I chose to connect 1:1 mapping and picked up WorkEmail property to return items.
    e) Mapped one of the custom property with one of the fields of SQL Server. Here, I ensured they both have same type.
    f) Ran Full Synchronize after above steps. On checked, I do not find any data in the mapped properties.
Below are the traces of LOGS:

Thanks for the very clear answer back. You're a star. Much appreciated and better to know where you stand directly. Have called the helpdesk and are willing to solve and take this one back in, although it will hurt. The macBook Pro continues to be out of reach economically, so it would need to be the white macBook...
Just wanted to check some last items before making final decisions as I am checking an alternative workaround
    - my camcorder supports recording on memory stick which can then be read into iMovie without problem. Any idea if memory stick is lower in resolution as normal DV tape recording? If this is comparable I can choose to from now on switch to memory stick. When I record on the stick it is then recognised as MOV.
    - is there any other (non apple made) OSX software on the market to facilitate only the USB driven capturing? Hence did any other SW supplier plug this hole? The old windows pc has proven that the camera streams images via the USB port (hence don't at all understand why iMovie cannot just support capturing via USB streaming...!!!!) and I understand it is more that iMovie doesn't support capturing images via USB, but does anybody else at least for the capturing bit?
    - You read about Firewire - USB adapters/hubs/convertors. It is however never clear if it would solve this issue. Dead-end street or an option?
    - I can capture my archive of old tapes on my old PC and then put them into my Mac. However the capturing SW makes one large file of it and no event is split. Any idea if on import iMovie could automatically split this into different events (based on date or start/stop?)
    - final question: does iMovie when capturing video from tapebased camcorder automatically split events based on date or start/stop? Would be silly to make switch and then still find out I need to manually make the cuts.
Very grateful for your support. Just a couple of days left to make final decision...

  • Error while running User Profile Import - Stopped-extension-dll-load

    Hi guys,
I'm receiving below error message in event viewer while running user profile import for the first time with event ID 6166:
The management agent "MOSS-" failed on run profile "MOSS_EXPORT_". The run step stopped because a configured extension for this management agent could not be loaded.
    User Action
Verify that the extension is located in the Extensions directory. If the extension is present, confirm that the version of the .NET framework  that can run the extension is installed on the server and that a supportedRuntimes  entry in the configuration
files specifies that version. The synchronization  engine will not be able to load an extension that is built with a newer version  of the .NET framework than the version of the .NET runtime it is hosting.
At the same time , in miisclient "stopped-extension-dll-load" message for MOSS_EXPORT,MOSS_FULLSYNC, MOSS_DELTASYNC. Can any help to let me understand what will be causing this issue?
     Farm version: 14.0.6137.5000

    Hi Sarath,
For this issue, I recommend verify the things below:
Check if the connection name of the Synchronization Connections created in User Profile Service Application has more than 55 characters. If yes, please rename the connection with less than or equal to 55 characters.
Check if the length of the full path to the dll called “Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ManagementAgent” is
greater than 160. If yes, then we can move the extension Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ManagementAgent.dll to the folder c:\windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL and then do an IISRESET.
If above cannot work, please check ULS log for more detailed error message.
    Best regards,
    Victoria Xia
