Extending wifi and accessing NAS offsite

Having a couple of issues I'm trying to work around. Hope someone here can help me out. I'm not sure if this is a two part question or can be combined.
I have a garden office which I'm about to start working from. It's about 30-35m from the back of my house and wifi for some reason is barely 1 bar once it reaches the office. I've had power installed to the office recently via armored cable which is conncted to the house mains but no phone line or Ethernet. Running an Ethernet cable at this point isn't really an option and this also being London it's really wet so the damp will eat though it in no time. The router is also located at the very rear of the house and the only thing between it and the garden shed is a set of glass doors and 30m of open space.
Due to security I'd also like to keep my QNAP NAS inside the house and not with the system and be able to backup remotly without having to transport the system. So needing suggestions on connecting to it from my tower as well please.
I did recently buy an Apple Airport Extreme thinking it would be as simple as that but sadly the range was was even shorter then with my standard router. I left it connected for a week to see if it would condition itself eventually but to no avail. I simply couldn't even get a connection at all with it.
I'm in desperate need of getting it up and running and not sure where to go or start with this.

The advice given was partially correct. Adding the second base station will improve the signal level, but not necessarily with any useful bandwidth. Again that is dependent on distance and or Wi-Fi interference between base stations.
To be successful in "boosting" the wireless signal you would need a transceiver or an external high gain antenna on both the current AirPort Extreme and the computer in the garden office. The other option is to use a dedicated point-to-point system. Unfortunately, these can be quite pricey.
The following are links to some transceiver/external antenna vendors:

  • Extending class and accessing enumeration table in DataWarehouse

    Hi,
I've extended my Service Request class containing a new field which is an enumeration.  It works fine excepting in the Datawarehouse.  I'm unable to find a table for the related enumeration similar to ServiceRequestPriorityvw or ServiceRequestStatusvw.
Please let me know how to create the corresponding table in the Datawarehouse.
    Thanks
    Sue.
ps.  the management pack is sealed.

First, all sealed MP are default synced to the DW so if you have sealed the list it should be transfered. However if it's not you have to do some modification with outriggers and dimensions. Take a look here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh916535.aspx
And this post is good but it's from 2010 but should apply to SCSM 2012 http://blogs.msdn.com/b/scplat/archive/2010/03/29/a-deep-dive-on-creating-outriggers-and-dimensions-in-the-data-warehouse.aspx

  • How to setup a wrt54g router as a wireless access point to extend wifi signal from e3200

how do i setup a wrt54g router as a wireless access point to extend wifi signal from e3200 which is broadcasting the internet?
everyone keeps saying to remove the stock firmware and instal the dd-wrt firmare to do this. can i do this with the stock firmware?
any tips to avoid interfearance once setup?

You have to connect both with a cable.

  • I have multiple devices (imacs, lap tops and ipads) all connected to a NAS server.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife, and each have our own apple ID, and Itunes accounts, but all share the same media on NAS drives?

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

Can we both have access to the same iTunes Match library or do we have to have separate subscriptions?  Our devices are synced to the same computer and we currently download titles from the same library.  We both use separate apple id's on our devices.

You need to reconfigure your phone for use with your Apple ID. I suggest you restore yours as new then reconfigure it with your information and Apple ID. Be sure to disable Find My Phone, if it's enabled, before proceeding.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • My wife and Iare newbies with iPhone 5s. (Should have waited for the 6.) I have usediTunes for a long time for my iPods, but now we both want to use the iCloud do access different music up there. Any help in doing that? If we can do it, we will be ad

I'm running iTunes on a PC laptop and ready to move music to an independent hard drive. We want to add more music to it. I have used iTunes for a while for iPods. My wife and I have new iPhone 5S and would like to access the cloud for different types of music, but I will maintain the music in the cloud. (That's my job.) Can 2 iPhones use the same iCloud? We each have different Apple ID's. Thanks.

Music in the cloud is managed by the separate iTunes Match service ($25/year US). You would sign up to it on the PC, and your music library would be matched with the iTunes Store, and high quality versions of all songs would become available to you on any device also signed into iTunes Match. You should not delete your local copy from the PC, since you should retain a master version of all songs for safety.
You can use the same iTunes Match service, but you'd see the same music (you say you "would like to access the cloud for different types of music", but I'm not sure what you mean by that).

  • I have an old Airport Express I want to use to extend WiFI (which is best Airport Express or Extreme) and to have a HD for storing Itunes connected to the old Airport as well.         I would also like to have the new Airport hardwired to my Mac (desktop)

I am willing to buy a new Airport Express or Extreme so I can get at least one LAN port - but only if I can use that LAN port to connect to my MAC (desktop) so it doenst have to get internet via the WiFi- AND so I can set it up as its own hot spot.  I think I saw that was possible??  That way my guest network would be separate from my home Network.  Just trying to get the best layout. I have cable modem to old Airport now and USB from it to printer.
Maybe a new Airport - again USB to printer and LAN to MAC(?) then old Airport elsewhere in the house to extend the signal and use USB off it to hard drive to store Itunes?  Would LOVE to have it there to use for Airplay etc- Is that possible- I have read many comments and still not sure if it is possible or not.
Baxically I need a simple solution to storing all my photos- music and movies (MAC only has 500GB) AND have a great back up; Currently have a 1TB drive as Time Machine - so could use that for back up- but running out of space on MAC for all the media I am saving.  THANKS!!

You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

You are more likely to get relavant and useful suggestions posting to the Mac forums instead of the iTunes for Windows forum where you've posted.

  • Wife and I have separate iOS devices, separate iCloud accounts. But we both want to access mail from the iMac (OSX Mavericks.) Currently only my mail is linked. How to configure so that wife's iCloud mail can be seen  on iMac. Simple and explicit please!

My wife and I have separate ioS devices (iOS7)  with separate iCloud accounts.
So we access our mail separately on these devices. But we would both like to be able to access mail at the desk top (iMac, OSX Mavericks). Currently only my mail is linked. How do I set up the Mac to allow it to access my wife's e-mail too, either in the same mail inbox or a separate one. Simple instructions please!

If Mail in Mavericks is the same as earlier versions you can select accounts in the sidebar, so that you can either display the inboxes for individual accounts, or the contents of all the account inboxes. (If the accounts don't show click the disclosure triangle next to 'INBOX'). The layout may have changed since the version I have - Snow Leopard - but you should be able to do the same thing.

  • Can a phisher gain access to my wifi and my macbook after I gave him access, but then changed my macbook's password and put up a firewall?

I got a scam call from a phisher, but I didn't know it. I gave them access to my laptop, laptop password my phone number, address, and email address. They had remote control of my computer and they had me download a program called "Clean My Mac." Supposedly, it was cleaning my Macbook, but it was probably downloading other viruses? I finally realized what was going on, and I disconnected the internet and change my laptop password and turned on my firewall. If I reconnect to the internet again, with the information that they have, can they still gain remote access to my computer? Can they get info from my wifi? I am planning on doing a system restore on my computer, but should I get a new Wifi to be safe? I'm just not sure what these guys can do and access. HELP!

    I would:
    - Change ALL the passwords used on the computer. Like you Apple ID PW and bank PWs if you used those on the computer
    - Format your HD and reinstall the OS and restore from a backup made before the problem
    - Reset yur router by pressing the reset button, usually with a paper clip and re-setup the router using a different PW. No reason for a new router.

  • Getting quite frustrated with my iPhone 4S.  Can't access WIFI and/or Bluetooth nor will my computer allow it to be a "hotspot" unless physically tethered to computer.  It started acting up after download....it also has messed up some app

I've only had this phone since Sept. and have already had to have the speaker replaced.  NOW I can't access wifi and/or bluetooth (both are grey).  I can't use the Personal Hotspot either (and the passcode no longer shows up).  I can only access internet via the phone through the USB.  This started over the past few days (and after I updated to IOS).
Some of my apps no longer work either...over 100+ hours of audiobooks on Audible can't be accessed as the Audible app just shuts off.
Any recommendations on how to recify?   I'm pretty rural so downloaded anything takes going to the next town over to get a signal from the library...  and all of my searching is eating into my 5gb limit through ATT....so it is a bit irritating

called Apple Care this a.m....new upgrade on 12/31/12 is supposed to fix the "bug"

  • HP 3210, OS X, can print w USB but not w WiFi. Can ping and access printers webpage.

I can connect and print on my HP 3210 directly via USB but not via the network. I can ping the printer and access its built in webpage through the network though, so it has network connection. When I try to add a network printer no printer shows up, so I manually add the printers IP address (valid and complete) and the ‘Generic PostScript Printer’ comes up as default. After I installed the printer through USB I can also access the specific 3210 drivers but it doesn't work either.
I once managed to print '%!PS-Adobe-3.0 Query  userdict (\004)cvn{(\004) print flush}put', then it continued to feed out blank papers until I canceled. I've tried the IPP, LPD and HP Jetdirect socket protocols together with the universal PostScript driver and the HP 3210 driver. One of the combinations returned the above line. Besides this one exception nothing happens, the printer appears offline.

It has previously worked on my older MacBook Pro and on a PC I had before. It seems like an installation problem not being able to install the IP printer automatically.
Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks!

It could be that your router does not support Bonjour or it is not enabled.  Go into the router settings and look for mDNS or Bonjour and make sure it is enabled.

hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the Sky router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the back of the Time Capsule. This connection must be maintained at all times.
Then, using the setup "wizard" on your iMac illustrated below, configure the Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky router is using.
You can get the setup wizard going in several different ways, but the simplest might be to click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and then click on Time Capsule under the heading of New AirPort Base Station.
The wizard will open up and analyze the network, then the suggest the correct setup. The example below shows an older AirPort Express that is about to be setup in the same way. You will see a Time Capsule icon on your screen when you run the setup wizard.
