ExtendScript2 CS3 Object Model Viewer (very complicated - any alternative viewer ??)

hallo iam just starting with JavaScript in CS3 and what i found most confusing is the Adobe's Object Model Viewer in ExtendScript2...
its no help whatsoever and i didnt figure out the logics of the various dictionary items listed, whatsoever...
if this is currentlly the only complete reference to CS3 JavaScript model than god help us....
the ExtendScript2 Object Model Viewer needs to be COMPLETELLY REWORKED to become a full powered dictionary tool instead of an unorganized pile of items
have you tried InDesign CS3 AppleScript Dictionary in Apple's ScriptEditor... thats a dictionary of object model as i would imagine
1) its FULLY tree-structured dictionary from topmost level down
2) all items are categorized and sorted BY TYPE using various icons
3) every item has a properties catalog card with nice english explanations of that function with hyperlinks to all other relevant items
IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE TO VIEW CS3 JAVASCRIPT OBJECT MODEL AND NOT USE THE EXTENDSCRIPT2 WEAK VIEWER ?????

Hi Rosta,
I have to admit that I don't understand. I see very little difference between the ESTK object model viewer and the AppleScript dictionary viewer. If anything, I think the ESTK version is superior because it connects methods with their objects--something that the AppleScript viewer doesn't do at all. But I pretty much find them equivalent.
Regardless, the descriptions are *identical* between the object model viewer in the ESTK, the AppleScript dictionary viewer, and the Visual Basic/VBA object browser. All descriptions come from the scripting resources in InDesign, and all languages use the same description string.
Jongware's HTML version, however, is much better than any of the above. Its hyperlinking is very good, and everything else can be found with your browser's Find command.
Relying on the object model viewers has freed me from the task of maintaining the reference PDFs--which was taking almost all of my time. Without that burden, I can focus on writing the Scripting Guides, Scripting Tutorial, and example scripts. While I agree that the object model viewers aren't perfect, I believe that this is a better use of my time. I think that scripting examples are more useful, overall, than reference documentation (which simply repeats the information from the scripting resources, in any case).
One very nice thing--because we have to rely on the object model viewers, we were allowed to fix literally hundreds of errors in the descriptions in the scripting resources.
Thanks,
Ole

  • ExtendScript Toolkit - Object Model Viewer

    Hi all,
    I know there's not really a way around this but I'm curious if anyone knows why the Object Model Viewer in ExtendScript Toolkit doesn't have After Effects Object Model in the Browser dropdown?  It has it for Bridge, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
    Not that jumping into the AE Scripting Guide is much of a pain...but it just seems like it would be appropriate to have it inside ESTK...

    In my opinion, this should be one of the top priorities of the ESTK. It has been a constant frustration for me over the last everal years that this hasn't been included for After Effects. I can't tell you how many hours I've wasted trying to look up examples in the scripting guide and other people's work when it would have been far faster with this feature. To me without this, it seems the that particular tool (ESTK) has made very little improvements that are obvious to me, especially with the fact that my scripts run far slower in newer versions of After Effects since CS4.

  • How do I add InDesign's Object model to ESTK Object model viewer?

    I am new to InDesign scripting, and was told that I could view InDesign's DOM in ESTK's object model viewer. The problem is that my ESTK does not show InDesign Object Model in ESTK's model selector drop down! InDesign DOM is not there in the drop down list.
    How do go about adding the ID DOM to the list?
    BTW, I am on CS6.

    this might help.
    Also, the best thing for the Object model is http://jongware.mit.edu/idcs6js/

  • ESTK object model viewer has no documentation!

    I can't find the relevant information about Indesign,Incopy and idserver script objects.
    The viewer enlists:
    (and nothing else)
    my current setup:
    I installed ESTK 3.5 directly on my dev machine, e.g. downloading estk from (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/scripting.html)
    + patched it to 3.5.1 (avaiable from same web page).
    So far, I haven't installed Indesign cause it's a dev machine. I wonder if this is an issue.
    How can I install the missing documentation?

    T, the general idea is you get the documentation for the programs you install on your system, the moment you first run them. The documentation gets generated automatically. My versions contain the exact same data as visible in the OMV, but in a different format.
    It's usually not necessary to obtain the help of all versions and of all programs -- in fact, there is no reason at all! Of course you can write a script for other programs, but there is no way to run them!
    "NO documentation" is simply not true. Check this page: http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/  -- click the tab "Scripting resources" to see the huge list of free docs Adobe provides to anyone.

  • Object Model Viewer, not loading Illustrator dictionary?

    I updated Illustrator from CC to CC 2014 and now when I load "ExtendedScript Toolkit CC 4.0.0.1" I am missing my Illustrator dictionary?
    Under "Browser" I only see "Core Javascript Classes" and "ScriptUI Classes"?
    The documentation state:
    "The dictionary for a particular application may not be available until you launch that application, or until you select it as a target in the Toolkit."
    Loading Illustrator fails to load the dictionary in ESTK?
    Thanks,

    I fixed the issue by uninstalling Illustrator, and then reinstalling it.

  • InDesign Object Model Not in OM Viewer

    I have the trial of InDesign CS4 installed, along with the scripting componetns and Adobe bridge.
    In the ES Toolkit object model viewer I have four options in the dropdown:
    Core JavaScript Classes
    ScriptUI Classes
    Adobe Bridge CS4 Object Model
    Adobe InDesign CS4 Object Model
    The first three options work fine. The crucial fourth option (the InDesign model) does nothing. I open it and the drop down just closes, then snaps back to whatever the previous selection was.
    What is causing this and how do I fix it? Hard to script without the object model reference!
    Many thanks in advance for any help.

    Try selecting InDesign from the drop down before starting InDesign.
    That's the only way I can get it to work on my installation...

  • Where did the Photoshop CC Object Model info go?

    I've been using ExtendScript Toolkit CC with Photoshop CC 2014 without issue for some time now, but yesterday all of the reference information for Photoshop CC 2014, and several other programs, disappeared from the Object Model Viewer. Does anyone know what happened to it? Is there any way to get the information back? I have already tried reinstalling ExtendScript but nothing changed.

  • [ANN] InDesign CC 2014 Document Object Model Documentation

    I've freshly rendered an alternative documentation for Adobe ExtendScript API and the InDesign Object Model.
    InDesign ExtendScript API (10.0)
    I don't like the representation in the Object Model Viewer provided by the Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit and hence used the HTML Version from Jongware on a daily basis. However these files are only up to InDesign CS6 and not searchable. So I started to convert them on my own. If you feel familiar with the structure and layout from Jongware files, this is not by chance, because I'm totally used to it.
    Feel free to browse the documentation, download a copy for offline usage (Unfortunately the offline search function will not work in Chrome). The sources of the Transformation can be found on github. The copyright of the original Files is by Adobe Systems Incorporated.
    I'm happy about Feedback and Bug reports. Keep in mind that the doucmentation sources are written by Adobe and I can only corret transformation errors!

    This project ist based on the fantastic ExtendScript API HTML from [Jongware]. Without his efforts and inspiration I would not have realized it. Thank You!

    Hello Jongware!
    After a couple of changes for ID CC2014 as you'll note below (" -> ', and, Object Styles) to an old couple lines of your code, I got the following to work beautifully to delete all the unused Indesign styles in a document off a hot key. A real time saver!
    //DeleteAllUnusedStyles
    app.menus.item('Paragraph Style Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Select All Unused').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    app.menus.item('Paragraph Style Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Delete Styles…').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    app.menus.item('Character Style Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Select All Unused').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    app.menus.item('Character Style Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Delete Styles…').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    app.menus.item('Object Styles Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Select All Unused').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    app.menus.item('Object Styles Panel Menu').menuItems.item('Delete Styles…').associatedMenuAction.invoke();
    The only thing stopping me from popping it into a loop to do a whole book at once (a trick I got from your excellent show-hide layers script) is that I don't know how to "Check The Box" in the ID UI that opens as it does each panel to make it "Apply To All". I'm sure it's quite simple but I've been through your handy dandy Script classes list, and ExtendScript, 'til I'm blue in the face and can't take it any more.
    Can you offer me a hint where to look?
    Best Regards,
    HP

  • Updation of List Settings through Client object model

    Hi all,Is there any way to update List settings through Client object model.
    I want to work with all the list settings programmaticaly using client object model.
    Is there any way???

    Hi,
         Handful operations you can do it with client object model as certain limitations are there, which are not in server object model. Sharepoint Client obejct model comes with 3 APIs .i.e .Net managed code, javascript api and silverlight
    object model .
    For reference , i implemented test code to add list on the Quick launch.
             ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext("Web FullUrl");
                Web web = clientContext.Web;
                List list = web.Lists.GetByTitle("Test");
                list.OnQuickLaunch = true;
                list.Update();
                clientContext.Load(list);
                clientContext.ExecuteQuery();

  • Mapping Variables(Object View) to Measures(Model View)

    Hi,
    In my AW, I have created a cube, And then I have created a new variable in the object view and populated it using load programs. Now. when I try to create a measure in the model view of the same cube based on this variable, I cannot see any option for assigning a variable to a measure. Can someone please help me out in doing this?
    I need the measure in the model view, because it looks like, when I create a relational view, only the measures that are defined in the model are added to the view and not the variables available in the object model.
    Thanks,
    Bharat

    Hi Bharat,
    The mapping editor is used to map a measure to a relational data source. Therefore, unless you convert your data source used by your DML program to a relational table/view (if it is a text file you can use an external table to present the data to AWM as a relational table, or if it is an Excel spreadsheet and your database is on Windows you can use the heterogenous gateway service to load directly from Excel by exposing the Excel worksheet as a relational table) you will not be able to use the mapping editor.
    To assign an OLAP variable to an measure within a cube you will need to create a custom calculated measure. This will allow you to create a measure that "maps" to your OLAP DML program. There is an Excel utility on the OLAP OTN home page that allows you to create custom calculated measures (at the moment this feature is not AWM10gR2 - but is available within AWM 11g). Click here for more information:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/SpreadsheetCalcs_10203.zip
    My advice would be to try and convert your data source to a relational table/view and using the mapping editor. This will allow you to benefit from the many new features within OLAP cube storage such as compressed composites, data compression, paralled processing, partitioning and aggregation maps. Of course you can code all this manually but it is much easier to let AWM do all this for you via a few mouse clicks. Please note - that everything you build outside of the AWM model view has to be managed (defined, updated, backed up etc) by you rather AWM. So while there are lots of advantages of using OLAP DML, I personally always try to load data into my OLAP cubes using AWM mappings and save OLAP DML for providing the advanced types of analysis that make OLAP such an excellent calculation engine.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there any software which displays all form objects - tables, views, etc?

    Dear friends,
    I need to know if we have some software product which opens an Oracle form and shows all objects (tables, views, procedures, functions, and so on) accessed by it.
    For each form, this software should show all operations made in each table - that is, whether form creates, updates, reads or deletes data in each table accessed by the form.
    If there's any software which makes such analysis, please let me know. I'd rather be downloading free software, but a trial version or a paid one can be considered as well.
    Best regards,
    Franklin

    Hello all,
    sorry, I don't know whether my 1st message was clear, so I am trying to rewrite it.
    I'm thinking about a software which creates a database objects list report; this report shows all database objects being accessed by the form - for example, it can list all tables being accessed by the form, showing a CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) for each accessed table, or list all packages being executed by the same form, and so on. For example:
    Form: CLI0001.FMB
    Package -> Operation
    PCK_ACCOUNTS -> E (Execute; but that's a suggestion, we can have 'R' instead)
    Table -> Operation
    ACCOUNTS -> CR (Create + Read)
    PAYMENTS -> D (Delete)
    Sequence -> Operation
    SEQ_ACCOUNTS -> R (Read)
    View -> Operation
    VW_CLIENTES -> R (Read)
    If there's any software which can do it, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Franklin

  • Cannot create list in SharePoint 2010 using Client Object Model

    I am trying to utilize SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model to create a List based on a custom template. Here's my code:
    public void MakeList(string title, string listTemplateGUID, int localeIdentifier)
    string message;
    string listUrl;
    List newList;
    Guid template;
    ListCreationInformation listInfo;
    Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ListCollection lists;
    try
    listUrl = title.Replace(spaceChar, string.Empty);
    template = GetListTemplate((uint)localeIdentifier, listTemplateGUID);
    listInfo = new ListCreationInformation();
    listInfo.Url = listUrl;
    listInfo.Title = title;
    listInfo.Description = string.Empty;
    listInfo.TemplateFeatureId = template;
    listInfo.QuickLaunchOption = QuickLaunchOptions.On;
    clientContext.Load(site);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    lists = site.Lists;
    clientContext.Load(lists);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    newList = lists.Add(listInfo);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    catch (ServerException ex)
    Now, this particular part, newList = lists.Add(listInfo); clientContext.ExecuteQuery();, the one that is supposed to create the actual list, throws an exception:
    Message: Cannot complete this action. Please try again.
    ServerErrorCode: 2130239231
    ServerErrorTypeName: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException
    Could anyone please help me realize what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

    I've made progress - well, at least to some extent. The previous message related to the "Invalid file name" is not appearing any more. I now realize that it is necessary to specify feature ID, list template kind, as well as custom schema in order
    to order SharePoint 2010 to create the document library.
    However, there's a new problem which isn't documented on the net almost at all (at least I was unable to find anything): The document library gets created, but I cannot access it. Further inspection showed that the doc lib views are not created. Basically,
    the only accessible doc lib page is the document library settings page. Also, I get the server exception with the message:
    Server Out Of Memory. There is no memory on the server to run your program. Please contact your administrator with this problem.
    Any idea what is causing this issue? Thanks.
    Hi Boris
    Borenović,
    I think I found the reason for this notorious "Server Out Of Memory" error.
    (Man, it took 4 hrs of frustrating troubleshooting without any direct hints... very disappointing
    MSFT developers :( ).
    Anyway,
    All the "Form" elements at the bottom need to have SetupPath="pages\form.aspx"
    attribute (by default this attrib is missing when you copy the whole List element from inside the stp's manifest.xml  file).
    Also, just make sure that each "View" element has correct "WebPartZoneID", "SetupPath" and "Url" attribute values otherwise that list/library will
    be created successfully but will fail to load when you try to access it (with the VERY helpful "Cannot complete this action, contact administrator" error). Even if you enable stack trace (or check ULS logs) you will find "An unexpected
    error has been encountered in this Web Part.  Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe." and you will never realize it's because of the
    incorrect attributes ("WebPartZoneID", "SetupPath" or "Url" as mentioned above).
    Come on Microsoft, you can do better than that?
    If the API needs this attrib then why is it missing inside the manifest.xml file when
    an STP file generated in the first place?

  • WebCenter Sites and Model–view–controller (MVC) framework

    A customer of our started developing their sites using Webcenter Sites, they want to support additional functionality such as transaction management, exception handling, custom logging and so on. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Model–view–controller (MVC) framework, they consider it an ideal candidate for these features. Has anyone here used the MVC framework in conjunction with WebCenter Sites to write additional java classes, facade layers and utilize the Spring controller to wire the same ? Are you aware of any other options available for this purpose ?
    regards,
    Pietro

    Hi Pietro -
    Using Sites IN a MVC framework is very difficult, because the entire context of WebCenter Sites is burned into the COM.FutureTense.Servlet.SContentServer servlet.  You can't really work around that with any degree of reliability.  Unfortunately, that means that dropping Sites into a pre-existing third party MVC framework doesn't really work.
    There are a lot of good reasons for that, not the least of which is the two-tiered pagelet-level caching system that makes Sites so very fast at delivery... not that it's any consolation.
    To deal with this some former colleagues of mine and I built the GST Site Foundation ("GSF") framework, which provides a Spring-like MVC container WITHIN sites, instead of the other way around.  If you're familiar with Spring, you'll see patterns similar with the GSF.  My current team and I have blogged about this extensively:
    What is this whole GST Site Foundation thing? | Function1
    Create a Simple "Contact Us" Form with GSF | Function1
    How to Add Your Own DAO to the GSF Actions | Function1
    The full stream is here:  GSF | Function1
    But ultimately, the special sauce is the following: in Sites, create an XML element that contains nothing but a <FTCS> tag, a <CALLJAVA> tag, and a closing </FTCS> tag.  Your CALLJAVA will then call a class that implements the Seed or Seed2 interface, and from in there you have access to the (properly managed) ICS object where you can do all of your magic.  You can then build a lightweight controller here to handle any action you can dream up:
    https://github.com/dolfdijkstra/gst-foundation/blob/master/gsf-wra/src/main/java/com/fatwire/gst/foundation/controller/A…
    Let me know if I can help!
