Extension Manager problems

I've seen a couple of other messages here about this problem,
but no one has ever answered. Since upgrading to Studio 8, I've
noticed that Extension Manager requires that each app (Flash,
Dreamweaver, etc.) be running before it can see it and therefore
install an extension. Is this normal behavior now? It certainly
wasn't the case in MX2004. I also remember in the past that
installing an extension while an app was running could cause
problems?

I can easily install extensions with only the Extension
Manager open in
Studio 8. Are you saying the app isn't showing up in the
dropdown of the
EM? Did you install Studio 8 apps in their default locations?

  • Cloud/Illustrator CC + Extension Manager problem

Hi, I signed up for Cloud yesterday then downloaded Illustrator, but Adobe Extension Manager only shows older versions of Photoshop & Illustrator (CS5). Can anyone help?
    thanks Jackie

I ran the report and a portion is included below. Not sure what the results mean -- did it find  Extension Manager and Flash Builder? If it DID find two of the products, the implication is that the paths weren't changed/renamed?  If I can query the PCD, can I also alter/fix the PCD? What is the remedy for the problem?

  • Extension manager problem

I'm a newbie at this. Just downloaded extension manager. Then
open it to go to exchange and downloaded a plug in.
Plug in is on hard drive, but not in extension manager.
Suggestions? F!/Help in extension manager doesn't work.

I'm running Flash 8 with the corresponding extension manager,
buut I think I solved my problem. I had the Flash 9 Beta installed
and once I removed that, eveything went back to normal.

  • Macromedia Extension Manager Problems on Vista

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem in using the macromedia
extension manager 1.7. When I run the application, the windows
prompted me that my Kernel Files dont work or are missing. when i
tried to reinstall the application, the windows prompted me that
there was an error accessing the macromedia_extension_manager.msi
file and it stops the installation. Curse this Windows Vista!!!!
I'm experiencing a hell of problems. I wish there that someone here
would help me. Thanks in advance.

If you look at the system requirements for EM 1.7, Vista is
    not mentioned ..
therefore, I am assuming that perhaps Vista is not supported.
    I would
assume you have DW 8 .. I don't know if DW8 will run on EM
    1.8 or not, but
that is the EM on which I see Vista mentioned in the system
    requirements, so
    perhaps that version is necessary.
Sorry I can't help more but I don't have Vista .. and the
    more I hear, the
more I think I will probably not have it any time soon!

  • Adobe Extension Manager Problem

    Hi all
I'm trying to install the lorem and mnore extension for Dreamweaver CC. I have installed the adobe extension manager cc and downloaded the lorem and more extension to my desktop, but when I click on it it dosen't install. If I click on file in the aem and try to install the extension this way, my documents window opens but the file type is a .mxp and the file type that shows is a .zxp.
So do I need to convert the .mxp to a .zxp, if so why does it download from the extension exchange site as a .mxp

Yes, you have to use Extension Manager CS6 to convert it to ZXP extension. If you don't have Extension Manager CS6 installed, you can get it from http://www.adobe.com/exchange/em_download/em6_download.html.
I think you should have downloaded it from the old Exchange Classic website. All extensions in the new Adobe Exchange are ZXP extensions.

  • Problem using extension manager CS5 with command line

    Hi All,
I had posted my question here : http://forums.adobe.com/message/4695419#4695419, but was advised to do so here as well..
I have a requirement to get the path of all the installed Extension Managers on any Windows system for the purpose of installing an extension.. I thought, there would be no problem in getting the path from the registry. There was no problem in Win XP, but the same does not work for Win 7.. I googled, and found alternate ways to get the path.
Here is the link : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/851359. I followed the instructions in this post, but failed to get this working for CS5 as mentioned in my previous thread... No problem for CS5.1 and CS6.. Why is that?
I want to get this working for CS5, CS5.1, CS6... How can I get the path of all the Extension Manager versions installed on a Windows system?
Please refer to the following screenshots to get a better understanding of my problem,
I created a jsx file named "Result.jsx", which I saved in my D drive, with the following code,
    resultFile = new File("D:/result.log");
    resultFile.open("w");
    resultFile.write(BridgeTalk.__diagnostics__);
    resultFile.close();
If I run this directly from ESTK CS5, there is no problem, and I get the result.log file. I tried to execute this script via command line as shown in the screenshot,
On executing the above, I got the following error,
    What is going wrong?
    Please help!

I am sorry for the poor documentation of Extension Manager which causes you so much trouble.
    1. You can use BridgeTalk API to ask specific version of Extension Manager to do something. There is sample in packaging_extension.pdf about this. You don't need to know the installation path of Extension Manager. One thing to note is that the value of bt.target is version specific, i.e. "exman-5.0", "exman-5.5" send this message to different version of Extension Manager, so you can change this value to install/enable/disable/remove extensions using different version of Extension Manager. More detailed documentation of BridgeTalk can be found by clicking "Help" menu then clicking "Javascript Tools Guide CS5" in "Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS5".
    2. Specific version of Extension Manager only manage extensions for corresponding version of product. You should use Extension Manager CS5 to install extensions for Photoshop CS5. The reason that the extension you installed for Photoshop CS5.1 using Extension Manager CS5.5 is displayed for Photoshop CS5 in Extension Manager CS5 is that two versions of Photoshop specified the same directory for Extension Manager to manage extensions. This is a defect and will cause some problems if multiple versions of Photoshop co-existed in one machine. But "to find  previous (CS5) extension manager and to enable it" should work for you, I guess you use command line to enable it and specify wrong product name (see #3) so that it doesn't work.
    3. When using command line, you should specify "product" attribute with the name displayed at the left panel of Extension Manager. So "Photoshop CS5 32" is correct. Remember to enclose it with double quote because of existence of space character.
    4. As above mentioned, use display name of Photoshop, and call proper version of Extension Manager by BridgeTalk.

  • Adobe Extension Manager CC Update problem

I made the switch over to Adobe CC and downloaded all the new "CC" apps including the Adobe Extension Mananger.  I have saved extensions on my mac that I have paid for in the past so I added them to the new Extension manager and they showed up on the new apps without a problem.  The problem I did encounter was that the extensions that I have are acouple versions behind and I have always updated them through the manager, but when I open the app to check for updates everything says up to date but I am 100% positive they are not.
    Any ideas?

Because we have rewritten the code to refactor Extension Manager, we have no enough time to re-implement the update feature completely. Now update feature is only supported by command line tool. The update support in GUI will be available in the coming patch.
Currently you can run "/Applications/Adobe Extension Manager CC/Adobe Extension Manager CC.app/Contents/MacOS/ExManCmd" in the Terminal to update extensions. Running it without parameters will show the help information. Using "--list_update all" parameter will show all extensions which have update available, and Using "--update <extensionName>" parameter will update the specified extension.

  • Problem with Adobe Extension Manager CC. Does not show installed extensions.

Adobe Extension Manager CC does not show installed extensions for Photoshop CC 2014 or Photoshop CC so that I am unable to uninstall extensions.  This means that I cannot install updates to extensions.

Hi JJ - thank you for getting back to me.  I got onto an Adobe tech and we tried various things including re-installation of Extension Manager, which didn't fix the problem.  We then updated Photoshop (I was one point release back) then re-installed EM and this has fixed the problem.
I did check online and quite a number of people seem to have had this problem, so I guess Adobe has fixed whatever bug was in there.
    Thanks!

  • Various problems using extension manager with command line

    Hello all,
We are installing our plugins  to CS4/5/5.1 version of Adobe Photoshop as part of our installer and  allow the users to select specific versions of Photoshop to install the  panel for. There are a few old problems that I wanted to rant about for  quite some while and now with a whole bunch of problems that the 5.1  update introduced I feel I just have to voice them. I will limit it to  PC only as it seems to be the most troubled platform
#1 As we cannot install our plugin only by using the  Extension Manager (simply because it cannot handle all we've to do upon  the installation) we have to run commands from within the our installer,  non-interactively, of course.
The interface to command line installation is xmancommand.exe (or "Extension manager (Version). exe" - not sure whether it makes any difference. ). Now the first question is how to find this executable on   the target machine, from an installer. Users may specify different  locations to install the Creative Suite and it certainly does NOT have  to  be  C:\Program Files\...(or %PRGRAMFILES% in general). ATM we are using an odd place in the registry  to to find the path to the most recent Extension Manager but first its  sometimes overwritten by another installation and in any case it  only shows ONE version of the extension manager which of course cannot  handle other versions (see #2)
#2 Why the most recent version of  Adobe Extension Manager (5.5) cannot install the extension for 5.0?  Well, install it actually does, however its disabled for CS5 and it  seems that the only way to enable it on this platform is to find  previous (CS5) extension manager and to enable it. Oh, actually no - it  doesn't work! The only way that I found here working is to find CS5  extension manager first, install the extension there and then use CS5.5  extension manager to enable it. Why do I need both utilities to manage  my extensions?!
#3 The program is severely lacking in  documentation AND it doesn't produce reasonable output messages, so  determining what it can actually support is a puzzle. For example, why  "Dreamweaver CS5" is a correct product name and "Photoshop CS5" is not (don't different teams talk to each other)? Ok, lets forget the consistency, but how do I make the utility output the list of all products it supports, in their  magic token form that it will actually be understood if passed in in the  command line? By trial and error? This menthod btw is also extremely painful: nany times when  specifying wrong parameters the program doesn't provide any output and just shrugs "whatever, go figure it yourself"...
#4 Why the only way to enable/disable an extension in Photoshop  seems to be using magic "productfamily" keyword that is not even listed  on Adobe's help page for command line options (here:  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/extensionmanager/cs/using/WSB4845EDD-14E5-476a-B749-FF328830D1 4F.html).?  E.g. "xmancommand.exe" -suppress -remove  product=Photoshop  extension=OurExtension" will ALWAYS fail with a lovely "'Photoshop is  not supported by Extension Manager CS5.5." error; I've tried "PhotoshopCS5", "Photoshop CS5", "PhotoshopCS5.1"  "Photoshop CS5.1", "Photoshop-12" (mentioned in examples section in  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/extensionmanager/cs/using/packaging_extension.pdf )  and a whole bunch of other permutations - none  seem to work (see #3). Magic "productfamily=Photoshop" does work. But  then it only aims the current version ("CS5.1") and I need it to work  for CS5 (I'm not even mentioning CS4...."). Would there be any suggestions?
Really, the question is, how do we, third-party developers, are  supposed to interact with the command-line utility without knowing where  it is, what product names is capable to work with and without being  able to target specific platforms (i86 vs x64 anyone  (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/672537)? CS5 vs CS5.1 (above)?). I don't  know what your test cases are for the command line tool (if any!), but this is simply insane, folks, simply  insane.

  • DW CS4 with Windows 7 - problems with Extension Manager

    Hi
I am new to this forum and have searched to see if anybody else has had this issue but can't find it.
I have recently installed CS4 on a Windows 7 laptop. I had originally downloaded and installed it on an XP laptop where it was all fine.
I had some problems with installation with the unlocking of the serial number on the new laptop - this was resolved by Adobe support.
However now I am trying to install extensions and get the message that the Extension Manager is unavailable and I have to re-install.
I have tried to contact Adobe using the Support portal but my post has been there for 4 days and I have had no response. I have just tried to call and after 12 minutes of being on hold - when the wait time was supposed to be 1 minute - I gave up.
Can anyone help with this. Does this mean an uninstall then re-install again? In which case I will have the same serial number issue that I had before. Or is there any other way I can install the Extension Manager?
    Would really appreciate any help.

I had a somewhat similar experience with the 4.2.1 upgrade with my computer. With my Q6600 running at 3.2 GHz, Vista x64 and with PPro CS4/4.1 update, I ran the PPBM4 benchmark and scored an 83.8. I then installed Win 7 x64, clean install etc… and re-ran the PPBM4 benchmark, with the same 4.1 update and with all system configurations the same as before, my score improved to 68.8, fantastic! I was very impressed with Win 7 x64.
This was short-lived because I updated PPro from 4.1 to 4.2.1, re-ran the PPBM4 benchmark and my score fell to 83.1 seconds, not impressed with the 4.2.1 update as far as this benchmark was concerned. I replaced the Q6600 with a Q9450, also over clocked to 3.2 GHz and with Win 7 x64, ran the PPBM4 benchmark and scored a 68.1; I got back everything I had lost in system speed from the 4.2.1 update plus some.
The Q6600 does not have the SSE4 instruction set while the Q9450 does. Perhaps the 4.2.1 update benefited CPU’s with SSE4 while those CPU’s without it, took a performance hit, just a guess.
