Extension to plug sky box in (best way)
I am having to put in a extra phone point behind my tv for the sky box, am i better to put this in as a extension or master, i do not want it to interfer with my broadband
Solved!
Go to Solution.
yes just connect 2 wires to terminals 2 & 5 on master and then to 2 & 5 on extension just make sure you get 2 to 2 and 5 to 5. the third wire is the bellwire normally orange and is connected to terminal 3 - it is no longer required and should be removed if connected as it can cause problems with noise as it can act like an aerial

what is the best way to connect my imac to internet via airport express. wireless or ethernet plug to airport? thanks
Hello quinstar,
It sounds like you would like to use either your Personal HotSpot to AirPrint from your MacBook Pro or use an Airport to do so without internet access to the home. According to the following Featured Discussion you very well may be able to use AirPrint with Personal HotSpot:
HT4356 Can I use personal hotspot as wifi to connect printer?
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4007254
Also, the Airport products to not need an active internet connection to set up a home Wi-Fi connection so that is another option as well.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Best Way to Pop-Up Dialog Box Based on Form Data
Hi,
I'm using InfoPath 2010 to create a submission form in SharePoint 2010. During the form submission process I'd like to pop up a dialog box if the difference between today's date and the service request date (which is provided by the user) is less than
7 days. The user only has to acknowledge the dialog box. What is the best way to accomplish this?
Thanks,
KevinHi,
What is the kind of your form : InfoPath (with InfoPath client on the machine) or InfoPath Form Services (web browser)?
Is this is a an InfoPath form, you can add an action on a button of type "Show message". You can add too a condition on this.
If you use InfoPath Form Services, there is two solution:
- Use managed code to call an alert javascript where you respect your condition,
- Create a new InfoPath View with the message and add an action "swith view" when you click on the button if you respect your condition.
Hope this help.
HI! Could you clarify please, how the 'Switch view' action could be called? I don't see such an option within Rules setup at Infopath 2010. -
Best way to control selected plug in parameters?
Hi all,
I've got an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O which Logic sees as a Mackie Control. I'm looking for the best way to control plug in parameters. I know I can navigate through the plug in parameter pages on my PMix, but what I want is a screenset that has each needed parameter assigned to a fader or something.
Can it be done using folders? Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch!I think I figured it out.
Use a folder, make a track for each parameter I want to control (or click that arrow to make another instance), then on my PMix I have to click the track view button a few times to view my plugins.

what is the best way to turn on my ipod after it has been in water? should i just turn it on or should i plug it in and let it turn on on its own?
Firstly, give your Pod a lot of time to dry out before trying to use it - at least a week, a fortnight might even be advisable. Water takes a surprisingly long time to evaporate from inside something.
For a case, what you want is the Griffin Survivor:

What is the best way to plug my iPhone 5 into a mixer for live music performances?
I'm thinking of performing live with my iPhone 5 or maybe an iPad that I haven't bought yet. What is the best way to get the sound for the device to a mixer or PA? I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with wireless options. I'm wondering if it is stable enough for live performance. There doesn't seem to be any audio interface options yet.
there is always the 3.5mm minijack out connector sure it's analogue but a cable with male minijack in 1 and and 2 rca in the other would work with most mixers and or pa's

What is the best way to achieve backup and storage by combining TC and external HD?
Hi,
By reading various posts I came to the conclusion that my recently bought 2TB TC (still in the box) needs to be combined with an external HD (not bought yet) if I want both network (WIFI) storage and safe backup.
Could someone please confirm what the best way of organising the two devices is and advice on the various steps I will need to take?
See below for some extra information:
I want to back up a Mac Book Pro with 250 GB HD and potentially a HP laptop (250 GB as well).
Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
The storage will need to be accessible to both machines. It will mostly be pictures.
Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
With regards to the external hard drive, are models like Western Digital Element or Seagatte Expansion suitable to stay plugged in the TC 24/7? Will they not overheat?
My initial idea is to use the WIFI facility of the TC box. I can use the WIFI facility of the modem/router is more appropriate.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
DenisThe drives you are backing up are small. There is no real need to use external drive but you do need a backup if you store files on the TC.. for just backups that is not necessary.
You cannot partition the TC but you can create a disk image for using with data files.. ie the PC backup.
Read Q3 here http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
iPad is backed up to itunes.. or to cloud.. it is not able to see the TC drive at all without an app. You can manually copy files to the TC using filebrowser app but there is no auto backup software in the iPad to other than itunes.
It will mostly be pictures.
Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
So you are not backing up, you are storing files.
You cannot access files in a Time Machine backup except by restoring them to the Mac. The PC cannot see them at all. That means you are not backing up.. you are storing files, even if just copies of the files. To do that you just copy via finder or windows explorer.
There are various scripting methods to ensure these photos are synced on all the devices. .but that is not what a backup software does.
If you want to use USB drive that is fine, they can stay attached 24/7. The disk will spin down generally when not in use.
They will not overheat.
But it is much faster to copy files to the USB drive plugged into the computer than on the TC.. the USB link on the TC is slow.. less than half the speed of the same drive on the computer.. much slower than the TC internal drive. It might be better to plug a USB drive directly into a computer. -
What is the best way to deploy an application ??
Hi,
Please advise me how to automate in a best way to Deploy 10 different applications(.ear/.war)
to 10 different Clusters(containing 40 Managed servers) in wls6.1......and that
too in a Production environment.
I know that we can use weblogic Console to deploy an application BUT if i have
2 unix boxes and each box contains 4-4 clusters(each containing 16-20 managed
servers) .....then i have to open up 2 Admin server consoles to deploy each of
the respective applications and that too deploying these application to 8 clusters.....OR
i can use deploy commad to do the same.
AND if i have like 100 clusters .....then i would have to "deploy" 100 times ......
is there any way that we can BEST AUTOMATE this process.
Thanks a lot.
-sangitaThanks Tommy. but i would like to know a very important point here: this is using
the weblogic.utility that you just talkd about.
Suppose iam having an ADMIN server that has say 10 clusters and 50 managed servers
underneath to take care.
1 cluster each = 5 managed server
now iam deploying a simple .war file to say a single managed server, i have found
out that it takes a looot of time to get the application deployed.
what do you say about this situation ?
what is the best approach ??????

To deploy the application from the command prompt in WebLogic 6.1 you
use the
following command
$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -cp $WL_HOME/weblogic.jar weblogic.deploy -port $WEBLOGIC_PORT
-host $WL_HOST_IP $WEBLOGIC_CMD $WEBLOGIC_PWD -component $WL_Server_NAME:$WL_Server_NAME
$WL_APPLICATION_NAME YourApplication.war
$WEBLOGIC_CMD sould be DEPLOY for the first time deployment and UPDATE
for redeployment
For deploying in a cluster you better create a shell script which call
the above
command with different cluster ip address as a parameter.

If you're using 8.1, then it's pretty nice to use ant for

For 6.1, it's probably not a huge win to use ant. It's up to you.
If
you're more comfortable using shell scripts, that's certainly a
reasonable route.

managed servers/db connection pools ......and all the other configurationthat
i do from wls console(or manually) ....????
and if yes, do you know of any examples, suggestions, ideas ?????
basically, if i need to sell(?) ANT to my juniors ......what are

Rob, do you still consider or suggest using ANT for deploying say
20
applications
on a 10 clustered environment.Yes
do you see any advantages using [ANT + weblogic.deploy]..... over
simply
using
weblogic.deploy utility ???Yes. ANT essentially gives you a cross-platform environment that
allows
extensibility through java. It's very powerful.

2) does this ANT wrapper has any advantages over using weblogic.Deployer

??If you're doing deployment via ant, then it's a bit more convenientto
use <wldeploy> rather than invoking a raw <java> process, but
fundamentally it's just a wrapper around weblogic.Deployer
3) i would certainly check to see weblogic.deploy for wls6.1
....can
i use ANT
for deployment purpose in wls6.1 ?You'll just need to wrap it in a <java> task
See:

In WLS 6.1, you'll have to use weblogic.deploy which is a bit
cumbersome, but it's still certainly possible to script deployment.

What's the best way to back up to the cloud?
I am going to be traveling in the on a boat in Europe. Access to wifi could be limited and slow. I want to back up my photos and catalog to the cloud as there is potental to lose laptop and external drive. Since I have a 25 mp camera and will be shooting in Raw allot, there will be some big files as each photo could be around 27 gb.
All of my files will be in the My pictures folder LR set up when I set up my new catalog. I planned to back up these folders to the cloud, then send just the new folders each time I add them to LR during import. Then I was going to have the catalog BK that is created each time you close LR (just the data only is in this file) sent to the cloud as well.
Then if my laptop is lost I can copy the back up catalog (just the data file) and the My Pictures file that has all my photos in folders to a new laptop and restore my catalog. I'm told by Adobe help that this won't work as the connection between the photos and the catalog back up will be lost.
Is this correct? And if so, what's a better method.Thanks Jim, and yes I meant 27 mb. Will be living on a sail boat so there is potential to lose both the laptop and external drive. The cloud was to be my 3rd copy

You really have images that are 27 GB each? I suspect you meant 27 MB. But, even then, I think cloud backup might be cumbersome. I would suggest carrying a small external hard drive. I have a 1 TB USB 3 drive that is really fast and very small. No external power supply. Plug it in, and copy the files. That's what I would do.

What is the best way to add external C++ code to LabView 6.1?
I have various C++ class-based DLL's written with Visual Studio 6.0 and wish
to create instances of these C++ classes and call their methods in LabView
6.1. What is the best way to do this?
It seems based on the little reading I have done that there are two choices:
1. Wrap the C++ class as a simple COM control and use LabView's COM based
VIs to create a COM object and access the methods of various interfaces.
2. Wrap the C++ class methods as C functions and a "constructor" and
"destructor" C function to create and destroy an instance of the class. Then
use LabView's DLL call support.
Which is best? What direction is LabView going to take that better supports
the notion of C++ class libraries?
Thanks,
Te
rryYou could also try using a CIN. This is a tool that LabVIEW provides for interfacing with external code.
The CINTools libraries of LabVIEW allow you to embed compiled C code into a particular Virtual Instrument (VI) using a CIN.
In order for LabVIEW to be capable of calling compiled functions of C from a running VI, the code must be loaded and unloaded into memory at the same time as the VI code itself. LabVIEW uses object code in the form of a .lsb file which is generated by the C compiler from the C source code using the ntlvsbm.mak file. This ntlvsbm.mak file is included in the CINtools directory in the LabVIEW folder. You also must create another .mak file which includes parameter definitions for the ntlvsbm.mak file and also includes a call to the LabVIEW .mak file.
The generic documentation for CINs only explains how to use them to call C compiled code from a LabVIEW VI. It shows several development environments such as Visual C++, but in essence it only allows the user to create .lsb files out of plain C source code ( .c ) through C compilers on those environments.
The question now is how can I create .lsb files from C++ native source code using a C++ compiler. Furthermore, how can I create a .lsb file from several C++ source code files (.cpp) and make calls to C++ functions from a VI using CINs? The following explains how to do this:
1) Drop a Code Interface Node (from the Advanced Subpalette of the Functions Palette) into the LabVIEW VI. Make sure to wire the inputs.
2) Right-click on the CIN and choose "Create.c File...", then in the file dialog box specify a "name.cpp" file name. (very important: use .cpp extension)
3) Then create a name.mak makefile (text file) and add the following lines :
name=name_of_cpp_file_without_the_extension
type=CIN
cinlibraries=Kernel32.lib
CINTOOLSDIR=path_to_cintools_directory
!include <$(CINTOOLSDIR)\ntlvsb.mak>
4) Go into Visual C++ and File>Open and open the .mak file. You can even Add the name.cpp file to the project to make it easier to edit. Select that name.cpp or open it as a text file in NotePad or and edit the prototypes of the CIN MgErr functions as shown below, adding extern "C" at the beginning of the line. extern "C" CIN MgErr CINRun(float64 *INPUT);3) Select Build.exe to create the "name.lsb" file. To import the .lsb into LabVIEW, right-click on the CIN and choose "Load Code Resource...". Then, choose the name.lsb file and it is ready to run!
If you want to use several C++ source code files with .cpp extensions, then compile them in Visual C++ and link them to name.cpp and create a .lsb by modifying the name.mak as follows:
name=name_of_cpp_file_without_the_extension
otherobj=other_cpp_files_BUT_USING_.obj_extension
type=CIN
cinlibraries=Kernel32.lib
CINTOOLSDIR=path_to_cintools_directory
!include <$(CINTOOLSDIR)\ntlvsbm.mak>
It's worth a try? I have also heard of using clusters to represent classes, so you could check that out.

Line Cord Error when connect to Sky+ Box with BT65...
Bought a new Panasonic TV and had to re sort cables took photos and replaced exactly as before. Did connect the new TV to splitter that works fine.
BT 6500 shows Line Cord error as soon as Sky box connected on own, with micro filter, with splitter. No errors prior to today so wonder if doing something daft.
We have 3x 6500s in house is it REN related? But as worked previously a bit odd.
Extension socket behind TV to micro filter - to spliter as before. Plug in cable to SKY plus box and get a line chord error showing on handset. Disconect and fault goes but noticed this fault reported on many forums BT, Virgin ....ANY advice welcome.make sure you have connected the cable to Sky box into correct port.... the sky box has 2... an ethernet port for a cat5 cable ( rj45 bigger port ) and an rj11 port for the phone cord.... the problem is this will fit in both!! but if connected to the ethernet port it will put a loop on line and cause fault on phone line...
