Extensions Folder?

Hi, I know there is an extensions folder located at /Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions . While this remains totally intact and fine, I just now, for no known reason, started seeing an Extensions folder in the finder right when I click on the Macintosh HD icon. As in, there is now an Extensions folder visible at /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Extensions ?
If I recall right, I don't think I've ever seen that there before. Is it normally there( as in hidden from the finder), or is it not supposed to be there at all.
Can someone help me out and let me know..... thanks and really appreciate these forums.

There is no default Extensions folder directly in Macintosh HD. Either you or some software created it there.
What are the contents? That would help.

Also I now administer the teams and have accepted the invitation to I received to be a team member and download the apps.  The admin page shows that I have been sent an invitation but does not show my account as "ACtive" unlike my other team members.  I tried to use the link in the invite to accept it become active but the link displayed an error saying I had already accepted the invite... why is no account not active?

  • How do I install a Thunderbird add-on for all users? Putting the XPI file into Extensions folder didn't work.

I'm trying to install Enigmail 1.8.2 for all users. I thought I read somewhere that you don't need to unpack the XPI file.
Whilst writing this, I did some experimenting and found a solution, but it's messy (see below). Is there an easier way?
Fresh install of Thunderbird 31.6 on Windows 7 x64. Have observed the following:
    1. If I install the extension for one user via the Add-Ons GUI (from the marketplace, not from a local file), it does work. The Appdata\Roaming\Mozilla\Extensions folder is empty. Folder {847b3a00-7ab1-11d4-8f02-006008948af5} is created in Appdata\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions\staged\ and moved from staged to extensions when TB is restarted.
    2. If I download the XPI file from Enigmail site and copy it to Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\Extensions folder, then Thunderbird's Extensions screen says "You don't have any add-ons of this type installed".
3a. If I rename the xpi to zip (e.g. enigmail-1.8.2-tb+sm.xpi.zip) then I can open it and see that the contents are similar to what was created at point (1). If I unzip the contents, then Thunderbird doesn't recognise the add-on, unless I rename the folder to the GUID above (which could be found in install.rdf or chrome.manifest, once you know what you're looking for).
Presumably I could also have done a per-user install, copied the folder from the profile, removed the extension, then pasted the copy into the program folder. That would save looking up the GUID but is only a little less fiddly.
3b. After renaming the folder and restarting TB, it gives me a new tab "Install Add-on" which says "Another program on your computer would like to modify Thunderbird with the following add-on: ... Location: C:\Program Files (x86)". Once I allow the add-on, it is listed in Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions.ini.
Aside: Disabling the add-on simply removes the line from extensions.ini, so how does TB distinguish between an unapproved add-on and a disabled one? It seems to be in extensions.json.

Is Thunderbird already installed in the computers? If so, you could download the .xpi file and drag and drop it into the extensions window (after opening that) to install it in all the computers, following which you click the Install buttons when they become enabled, and you might have to restart Tbird afterwards.

  • My Bridge CC is not showing an extensions folder in Mac OS:/LibraryApplication Support/Adob

I just finished installed the Output Module on my computer following the directions on the site however when I go to the same location on my laptop which also has Bridge CC in the Library Application Support Area Adobe Bridge CC area there is no extension folder.
I waited to speak with support via chat but I was advised to contact product experts tomorrow Monday.
I am wondering if I should just uninstall and reinstall but will wait until I get a response from someone who has the answer.
    Thanks so much!

This link should provide the answers.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5695661

  • Where is the extension folder for Adobe Bridge? (Mac)

I am trying to install the output module on Adobe Bridge. I am totally new to Creative Suite and photoshop. I can't find any information on bridge extensions at all. Here's the page I found on installing the output module- http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/install-output-module-bridge-cc.html
I downloaded it but after that is says to copy it into the extension folder. Where is the extension folder? Is it is Bridge? Is it in Finder? Any information on extensions is much appreciated! What exactly are extensions? What is the difference between the extension folder and extension manager?
    Thank you!

At first sight I can' see anything wrong about the correct locations you used.
There was no need to delete all workspaces but that also should do no harm I would think.
You once pointed at the bridge6.plist file but it is not clear to me what you did with it. Personally I would quit Bridge and delete this plist file manually and then restart with again holding down option and use reset preferences.
And you did also use the reset to standard workspaces instead of the reset workspace to only reset the selected workspace. I don't know for sure this will make a difference but it is worth a try.
And while you are in the user library to delete the plist file for Bridge also look in the folder caches in this library.
User / library/caches/adobe/Bridge CC and inhere find and delete both the plug in and cache folder, then restart Bridge.
Finally it might be also worth a try to download CS6, it should not be needed to do so but it was one of the earlier solutions that worked. In your ACC menu click on any app that shows blue and this brings you to the CC website. Choose download center and find PS. Click on the icon and this gives you the detailed download page. Inhere you can change CC to CS6.
Download PS6 it and install it (this also installs the CS6 version of Bridge which was not a separate download in CS6). Then try first start CS6 and start the AOM which is installed by default in this version.
Then when having used this once quit CS6 and try CC (or even combine with restarting your Mac).
Hope this helps, because I'm running out of options

  • No Extensions folder in library?! No kext files?

    Hi
Anyone know why i can't see/find an extensions folder on my system? 10.4.6, dual core 2.0, kept my system pretty clean... i did a custom install of tiger.
There's only ONE kext file on my system, and that's something to do with Roxio Toast.
    Anyone know what's going on?
I need to delete a kext file off my system asap.
    Thanks
    Edd

    Hi Beatsmith,
not sure why it didn't come up in spotlight though, must be as it's a admin folder
Unfortunately that's a feature, not an error. Spotlight does not search the folders Library or System. I quit using Spotlight 1 week after I installed and use FileBuddy instead.
TIP: do not change/move/delete anything in /Library and /System unless you know EXACTLY what you do This might render your system unfunctional.

  • [IDC S5] Run a script - get the extension Folder

    Hi All
I'm novice in Extension Builder and may be my questions seems stupid...
I want to run a JSX for ID, located in a sub folder of my extension.
I use the "doscript()" method but I don't know how to refer to my ".jsx"
If I set a File variable what kind of path I have to specify? Absolute or not?
How can i get the folder of my extension?
File.applicationDirectory don't returns my extension folder.
    Someone can help me?
    thanks
    Ivan

    There are two issues here.
Firstly, how to obtain the file path to your script, or any item under your extension folder.
File.applicationDirectory doesn't return your extension's directory, because extensions are loaded as sub-applications of a top-level "StageManager" application. And so File.applicationDirectory returns the StageManager directory rather than your extension's.
Instead you can use the following CSXSLibrary API to get the full path to an item in the extension directory:
    var url:String = "app://" + CSXSInterface.getInstance().getSystemPath(SystemPath.APPLICATION).data + "myScript.jsx";
Secondly, there are some pitfalls to be aware of when using doScript from ActionScript. See Harbs's excellent cookbook entry http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Using_InDesign_doScript_UndoModes_in_ActionScript-18462.ht ml
    David.

  • Why no Extensions folder or files?

So I was going to try the whine fix on this forum where you edit a file in your Extension folder. Problem is there is no Extension folder in my Library and when I do a search for the folder there are no files in the folder.
    Anyone?

    Managed to delete Bonjour64.msi
How did you do that, Arkir? Did you use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to clear the BonJour installation configuration information? Or did you use some other process?

  • Customizing icons in sys folder extension folder IO...kext pkg issues

I currently run a mbp 17" early 2011. For years of OS iterations including Lion 10.7.3 I've customized my icons throughout the system folder, including the extensions folder. Till now. I don't know if the issue is recent firmware /smc update related. I do know that my system does not like the customizations to icons as basic as "CD-R.icns" and all the rest of the IO function sets in the kext packages. I lose all functionality of Superdrive, Firewire, USB, etc.. Changing the internal HD icon creates a loss of Finder. Ouch! I had to use a TimeMachine backup off a jump drive to restore/fix it. The names of the .icns swaps are exact. Odd... What's up? Thanks in advance, William

Just about everything these days is codesigned; modifying a codesigned component it in any way will make it inoperative (changing the icon adds a custom icon file).  You should not be messing with anything in the /System folder.

  • I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

BTW, it is never recommended to do a major OS change without having a full, bootable backup.

  • Kernel panic after Extensions folder changes

I've been getting some Kernel extensions errors and (naively) decided to copy the whole Extensions folder from my friends MacBook. After I've restarted my Mac, it's throwing up Kernel panic:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffff80238c0b01): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.92.1/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:15 33
Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Adress
Can't perform kext scan: no kext summary
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Unknown
    Kernel Version 13.1.0
Is there any possible fix other than reinstalling the OS? I have a lot of stuff configured a certain way and it would be a pain to have to reinstall it all again. I've copied the Extensions folder from my Time Machine backup but it doesn't help ...

Restore the entire OS from your backup or reinstall the OS using Recovery. Don't copy anything from your backup. Use the system as designed. Actually tapping into the backup files is a last-ditch effort to recover data which cannot be restored normally.
Reinstalling does not alter your settings, except those Apple decides to reset, which isn't many.
I'd give reinstalling a try, first. You may have to do as Kappy suggests.

  • Trying to install the output module for Bridge CC but there is no extensions folder for Windows

I am trying to install the output module for Bridge CC on a Windows system, but there is not an extensions folder in my Bridges CC folder. I have seen several discussions about this issue for Mac's but nothing on a PC. Suggestions that I could use to remedy this situation? - Thanks!

For installing it please download the package as listed in the below mentioned link and follow the install instructions.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/install-output-module-bridge-cc.html
Make sure that you have the most recent version of Bridge CC(6.0.1) installed.
Please follow the below mentioned steps:
Copy the Adobe Output Module folder (not the AOM_Package_[OS] folder) into the Bridge CC Extensions folder in the appropriate location as mentioned:
    Windows 64-bit:                Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC ExtensionsWindows 32-bit:
                   Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions
    2.   Copy the AdobeOutputModule.workspace file into the Workspaces folder under the Bridge CC Extensions folder (location as mentioned in Step 1).
Do let me know if this helps.

    Ashutosh

  • Missing Bridge CC Extensions Folder

I have Bridge CC installed and am trying to download and install the AOM Output Module extension.  Per the instructions on the site I need to copy the folder to the Bridge CC Extensions Folder in my Library Folder, but there isn't one there!  Any tips/advice/help?  I can't get it to work without finding that folder it seems :-(

    Hi,
I am having a problem with having the Output Module work as well.
According to the instructions I have done everything correctly. Install Adobe Output Module
    I:
Copy the Adobe Output Module folder (not the AOM_Package_[OS] folder) into the Bridge CC Extensions folder in the appropriate location:Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions
Copy the AdobeOutputModule.workspace file into the Workspaces folder under the Bridge CC Extensions folder.
When I place the AdobeOutputModule.workspace into the Workspace folder Bridge doesn't come up at all. If the Module is in the same folder as the BridgeCC folder then there is no change to whether Bridge works or not.
Additionally, I am not seeing "!!-$$$AdobeOutputModule.workspace" in the \Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CC\Workspaces folder. All I see are
    !!-$$$Essentials.workspace
    !!-$$$LightTable.workspace
    !!-$$$Navigator.workspace and
    !!LastMenu.workspace
    Help please. Any more ideas.
    Thank you,

Trying to be able to make contact sheets in Bridge CC instead of Photoshop and can't because there is no extensions folder under Bridge CC to copy the file to.

Yes there is but you have to read the instructions carefully and choose the right library. For more detailed help just provide more details about system and versions.

  • How to Modify My "Extensions" Folder to Add Joliet Volume Access Extentions

I am trying to install the software for my Netgear wireless router.
Problem is, you need to download a translating software before installing the Netgear software, which is written in ISO 9660.
The CD containing the Netgear software states the followin:
This Resource CD-ROM is written in a semi-universal file format called ISO 9660, with extended support for long file names. This extended format is called the Joliet format. Apple supports ISO 9660, but without the long file names. This causes the file names on the CD-ROM to be shortened to 8 characters when displayed on a Macintosh. As a result, the file titles lose their meaning and active links may not function.
An extension is available for the Macintosh that allows Joliet format CD-ROMs to be read correctly. The Joliet Volume Access extension, written by Thomas Tempelmann, can be obtained at
    http://www.tempel.org/joliet/
Please download this extension and place it in the Extensions folder within your System Folder, then reboot your Macintosh. Then you will be able to correctly read the file names on this CD.
I tried to follow these instructions, but my IBook would not allow me to place the "extension" I downloaded into my Extensions folder. My computer says that the Extensions file can't be modified.
    Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
    I Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi H.,
    Welcome to the forum.
You do not need to install any software on your Mac in order to enable it to work with your Netgear router. All routers come with a software/driver cd in them but it is unnecessary to install on a Mac.
All you need to do, after connecting the router to your Mac, is fire up a web browser and enter the ip address which you will find in the manual along with a user name and password which is also in the manual. Once you are into the setup pages of the router you can then configure it to your ISP's settings and also enable any security feature you wish. Save the changes, exit and that's it; you will now be able to surf wirelessly.
