Extensive Framemaker Server 12 issues

We're moving from a history of utilizing patternstream and the normal Framemaker desktop edition in a way that would make the existing server software pale by comparison - but we discovered our setup might have been outside the license agreement, so we scuttled that mechanism in "favor" of purchasing the server edition.   Since then we've had multiple problems with sparse technical support.  In desperation I'll list the problems here on the outside chance that some kind soul might have some advice.
Architecture:
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
Hardware: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5670 @ 2.93 GHz (Virtual Box)
Framemaker Publishing Server Version: 12.0.1
Issues:
1. Running locally on the server, when I attempt to browse the file path in the "Specify Input Task" dialog associated with creating a new task, I am unable to and a popup says "The applet request was denied."  I am running the server on an administrative account.  The same holds true for attempting to create a template.
2. #1 is not a problem via remote machines running the web interface, but after selecting a task and specifying a Framemaker 12 (.fm) document as input, the task will not run, and a message stating "Input file type not supported. Please select the correct file type."
3. Attempting to create a template on an external box via the web browser results in a perpetual "IO exception. Could not complete the requested action."  However, I did get this to work ONCE by putting in an IP based path in "Output Directory."  However, the next time I returned to the page the template no lnger appeared in the template list.
4. It seems as if I need to authenticate at least 3 times for any one action on the server.  Putting in bogus credentials doesn't seem to make a difference one way or another.
There are more issues than just these, but I'll leave it at this for now.  Any suggestions appreciated!

> Yep, I'm running it on a virtual machine that is running WS2008R2.
So the WS2008R2 itself is running in a VM?
And then FMPS is running within WS2008R2?
I'm no expert on this sort of configuration, but anyone here who is might find these details to be critical.

  • FrameMaker Server 8 in a cluster server

Does anyone have any experience with FrameMaker Server 8 (or previous versions) running in a cluster server?
Also, if anybody has implemented FrameMaker Server 8 running unattended in any kind of server --be it a High Performance, High Availability or any other configuration-- please feel free to comment.
    Thanks
    Juan Souza

    Arnis,
First of all, thanks for replying.
I am aware that the only difference between FM and FM Server is the licensing. Adobe requires a Server license for any unattended use of FrameMaker.
The server environment, and specifically a clustered server, is a client requirement. They are especially sensitive about their High Availability setup. Since FrameMaker isn't "cluster-aware", we have had to establish control procedures to continue any process that has been interrupted when the active server in the cluster is either shut down or moved into passive mode.
We are producing PDF, RTF and printed output, processing XML streams. We use FrameMaker Server 8, driven by FrameScript scripts. Given your experience, do you see anything wrong with our setup? There is a budgetary issue which doesn't allow the Miramo product to be an option. Also, we do not build documents from database query/report procedures.
    Again, thanks for your input.
    Juan

  • Acrobat Connect Pro LMS 7.5 server cache issue - displaying old content

Our Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server is showing old Captivate-created content from about 4-6 weeks ago.
I loaded 35+ sets of Captivate 3 (SCORM 1.2, HTML, zipped) content onto our Acrobat Connect Pro LMS about 6 weeks ago.
I converted all training content from Captivate 3.0.1 to 4.0.1, 4 weeks ago by opening each file in Captivate 4 and following prompts to "Save As" new files with different file names.
I reloaded all content 4 weeks ago, and again 2 weeks ago.
I reloaded about half of all content again last week.
End User Acceptance testing performed this week showed that most of the courses are showing old content, ranging from 2-6 weeks old
    Attempted fixes and workarounds:
Deleting content entirely and reloaded from scratch - this will not work long term, as we lose usage data each time we reload completely new files.
Contacted Adobe, provided times to track incidents of the issue.  We reached Tier 2 - who told us it was our problem and that everything appeared to be working fine from their side.
New workaround - load new content and reattach course to new content.  This presents the same long term issue as the first workaround, but enables us to retain older versions of content in the system, should we need to revert or report on it.
Gaining server side access is a bit challenging due to the hosting situation we have, so I am looking (ideally) for a solution that can be performed from the Administrator/Author Frontend.  However, I want to learn the real cause of the problem, wherever it might reside, so that it can be properly corrected and avoided in the future.  I am calling this a server cache issue, as it seems the server has somewhere retained unwanted old versions of content, preventing current content from being displayed to end users.  Viewing content as an end user = see old content.  Viewing content from the Content area (Author view) shows the current files, so I know they are on the server and are loading correctly, up to a point.
I am preparing all content for another round of loading/reloading due to other issues and updates, so republishing and reloading all 35+ files into the LMS is unavoidable at this point.
This issue is keeping our LMS from launching to several thousand users across the country, so any suggestions or helpful tips are much appreciated.

I think I have isolated the source of this problem. It's the Pitstop Professional 9 plug in. I un-installed this, and everything opens quicker than greased lightning. I re-installed it and it's back to slowsville.
Unfortunately Pitstop is essential to my workflow.
Until recently I did my pre-press on a Mac G5 with Acrobat Pro 7 and Pitstop 6.5. I never had this problem with slow file opening. But it seems that the delays would occur when I used the plug-in with large complex files.. So it would open files as fast as you'd expect from an elderly machine. But starting to use Pitstop would result in a prolonged period of staring at a spinning beachball.
I wonder is there any way to stop the Pitstop plug-in from initializing until it is used? So the plug-in stays inert until you select the tool from from the menus.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues -Feedback?

Anybody have any feedback from the MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues?
I had my early 2011 15 inch 8,2 repaired (free) under the extension program. The machine now appears to run well - but much hotter than before. The case is significantly hotter - especially at the GPU corner and the fans are constantly on moderate to high (not full). Anybody else experiencing similar changes?

    Run an Apple Hardware Test;

Note an error free AHT is not definitive.
    install iStat menus:

Set Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When the MBP gets hot, post images of both for inspection.

  • FrameMaker server vs single user licensing requirements for WebWorks Automap?

    Hi guys,
Does anyone happen to know if a FrameMaker server license is required to support a WebWorks Automap HTML generation process?  Or is a single-user license acceptable (so long as only one user is accessing the machine).  My understanding is that WebWorks simply opens and closes FrameMaker files and does not use any FrameMaker functions to produce its content.  I've checked with WebWorks on this, but ultimately it's any potential Adobe licensing restriction that I'm concerned with.
We're currently using unstructured Frame, so much of our content could only be generated by having FrameMaker and WebWorks installed on the same workstation or VM.
    Thanks in advance.

If you're actually running FM on a Windows server platform, then there's a high probability that the EULA demands you use the FrameMaker Publishing Server (FPS) instead. However, if you're just accessing existing FM files and not triggering FM via Webworks to do anything, then I don't see how a FPS license would be required.
There's a bit of info on the differences in the licenses at: FAQ | FrameMaker Publishing Server 12
However, I can't seem to find any more recent versions of the EULAs than the FM11 and FPS10 ones listed here: Licenses and terms of use | Adobe

  • Snow Leopard Server Update Issue

    Good afternoon.
I had some issues with my software update server, not issuing the correct updates and been real sluggish etc. After doing some research on the web and in this forum, I have reset the /etc/swupd and /var/db/swupd folders, rebooted, turned back on the update server and reconfigured everything.
I have noticed that after some time, the updates are downloaded and the blue exclamations go away. I enable the updates that I want and save everything. After a reboot of the server, all my enabled copied downloads are back to 0. And the "Updates Copied" and "Updates Enabled" are back to 0.
I have repaired disk permissions, FSCK etc, and all appears well. In the my /var/db/swupd/html/content/downloads, I have a couple GB of stuff. If I go further into this folder structure I can actually see the updates. It feels like a configuration file is not been written to correctly, and hence on reboot everything goes back to default. The permissions on swupd.conf and swupd.plist appear to be fine and there contains are OK.
Has anyone encounted this issue before or have any suggestions? I tried going back to the backups I made before I reset the /etc/swupd and /var/db/swupd folders but I have the same issue.
    Regards Chris.

Does anyone here have a crystal ball?  I can't answer it anymore than the next person.  I'd ask it in the Snow Leopard Server forum after the release date.  This is a user to user forum.

  • Powerpoint web sharing fails with "some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues"

    Hi,
I am having problems getting PowerPoint sharing working with Lync 2013. My setup is as follows
Lync 2013 Enterprise pool (november 2013 updates) on Windows 2012 and
    Windows 2012 webapp farm
    Kemp HLB
Everything is working ok, including whiteboards and application sharing, but i cannot get the powerpoint sharing to work. I always get the "some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues" for internal or external
    users.
The webapp looks healthy and there are no errors in the Lync server or the webapp event log. Discovery urls can be accessed and i have put the .net 3.5 as suggested in a few forums.
When a user starts the PowerPoint it successfully loads the file to the Lync file share and request goto the webapp server. I am using a HLB which shows me that requests are forwarded to the webapp farm. I have removed the HLB for testing and get the same
    results.
I did log this with the forum a month or so ago, but I had a file upload issue then which is now solved, but the powerpoint sharing is not.
    any ideas?

  • Server busy issue since i joined Creative Cloud

I had Lightroom 5 and then joined creative cloud and have been having issues ever since i signed up.  Every time i start lightroom i get a server busy error for hours on end.

A fix to Lightroom's “Server Busy Error” on a Windows 7 64 bit computer:
I see in the discussion threads there are a LOT of frustrated people over this Server Busy issue, so I hope this helps someone. This is what Adobe tech support had me do, which fixed my problem. I got through on the phone right away, and the fix took no longer than 20 minutes to determine, with the support person remoting into my computer.
I already had Lightroom 5.6 installed through my Creative Cloud subscription, and it had worked for a few weeks for me, although with increasing problems with the Server Busy box popping up. I was able to get rid of it by switching to Switch and Retry, but eventually it locked me out entirely.
Tech Support told me the problem was a permissions issue.
Try the following and see if it solves your problem:
In C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe, find the SL Cache folder and move it to your Desktop.
In C:\ProgramData\Adobe, find the SL Store folder and move it to your Desktop.
R Click on your Lightroom icon and “Run as Administrator”.
If it opens correctly, that shows it is working now.
Close Lightroom and reopen the application normally.

  • HELP! Mac Mini Server Journaling issue during reinstall

    H E L P !
    Mac Mini Server Journaling issue...
    Hi there,
I have taken on a nearly new Mac Mini Server running Snow Leopard.
It has a RAID set up already.
When I try to reinstall the OS from the original disk the installation willl not let me select the drive as it says it is not journaled.
I have then opened Disk Utility and selected the main HD (there is one HD plus 2 Raid slices listed).
From this point on there are no options available:
The only 2 tabs above the right hand window are 'First Aid' and 'RAID'.
First Aid shows all 4 options greyed out.
Selecting the main HD and then going to File>Enable Journaling will not work as 'Enable Journaling' is greyed out.
Deleting the RAID does not work either, as the HD (mirrored RAID set) and both RAID sclices have the padlock icon next to them.
    Can anyone help?
I really need to reinstall the OS and set the machine up with a TimeMachine Capsule asap!
    Many thanks,
    Haberdashery

    Sorted!
All is good now : )

  • Offline installer for CC Desktop / Server availability issues.

This is a follow up to the issue described here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5620240#5620240
As we have to install CC Desktop on each of the systems deploying CS6 packages, I'm looking for an offline installer for it. Is such a thing available?
The reasons I ask are that A) There's no guarantee that the machine will have internet access during the installation. and B) Half the time I run it on a desktop, I get an error message telling me "The remote server is not responding in a proper manner"; my response to which was similarly improper...
My "Deployment" such as it is now relies on users copying the file form a network share on to their desktops, running it individually and hoping that the server is online. Not fun when you've got 50 artists across 5 studios wanting to get these packages installe; and that's only so I can proceed to the wheel-of-fortune that is the AAMEE-produced MSI package.
Are these server availability issues commonplace? Is this just one of those things that afflicts all software launches that rely too heavily on online components?

    Hi Terry,
If it's helpful, you can find and use all the original offline installers for all Creative Cloud and CS6 tools (including the CC Desktop App) here:
    Adobe CC Direct Download Links
    and/or
    Adobe CS6 Direct Download Links
If you have those files in hand then you can install the free trials anywhere while being offline.  In most cases the Internet is used to activate the software longer-term, although Adobe still provides procedures for offline activation:
    Activate your software offline
If the computer on which your software is installed cannot connect to the Internet or to Adobe’s activation servers, you can activate your software offline.
