Extention of DMS for BW

Hello Experts,
I would like to assign some documentation directly in the system for my BW structures (ODS, Cube, IObjcets TR, UR ….).
I found out then each of these objects can have documents (Ctrl + Shift + F4). Great!
Because I want to have some regularity in the documentation, I would like to define some document types. For example:
1. For ODS:
Function (document describing the function of this ODS)
Content (document describing the content)
2. For Update Rule
Preprocessing (Processing in the start routine)
Special processing
I think this could be made with different Doc.Class.
The standard functionality gives only a possibility of assigning documents with document class BW_LO_META.
Could I define my own document classes (different for each document type for each object type) ???.
How could I make these classes available for using for documentation of appropriate objects (Cube, ODS …)?
How could I generate the name of the document automatically (and not being input by user)?
Where can I find information for doing this things ?
Is it a right way of thinking, or are there better solutions for my goal.
All good ideas are welcome.
Wojciech

Id like to find documentations and / or help to know the different steps to achieve for configure DMS for EH&S using KPRO.
Anybody can tell me the different steps to do and / or give me some documentations?
    Thanks

    Hello Ludo,
As Documentum is a separate document storage system, it requires a connector (Standard Interface) to connect to SAP-DMS.
As I am not expert in this field so will not be able to help you but still I have some information like, Documentum will be used as the Main Application & all data & objects will be created or linked to SAP objects in the Background and the Content Services for SAP application integrates the Documentum content management system with the SAP R/3 system. It is an interface to the SAP R/3 system based on SAPu2019s standard DMS and ArchiveLink interfaces.
I think your question is more relevant for DMS forum. May be you can post your theread there, so that you can get right answer or may be on this forum someone else can help you who has worked on this scenario.

  • Tablespace with too many extents are evil for performance

I think the tablespace with too many extents are not bad for performance after introduction of LMT tablespace?? May be true with DMT tablespace(earlier versions). This is just observation after reading the LMT vs DMT tablespaces.
Experts - Please comment on your thoughts.

Indeed, I work in an environment where there is over 50 databases to be administered and so we have lots of DBAs interacting with each other.
I'm stunned by this myth of "reorganization". Most of the DBAs move tables + rebuild indexes regularly generating huge redo  on a monthly basis. Also provoking indexes to do all the splits again generating even more redo. They claim "it helps performance a lot" however not one is able to quantify and quite justify it other than "less extents less I/O, good". Even when I bring up the existence of shrink they say "do not like it, prefer the classic move". People really have a way of holding on to their good ol' practices of Oracle 8i.
For full table scans (which should never be done on a OLTP scenario) this extent issue would be relevant IF data on the table is the victim of large deles and Oracle hasn't re-used that space yet. If your multiblock reads is a multiple of your extent size, than there won't be any overhead of I/O call, no matter the number of your extents. For OLTP this is not relevant because Oracle will access the table via ROWID.
I rarely have ever seen an index benefit from a rebuild significantly. In my experience what people often understand as "index fragmentation" is often just an unoptimized execution plan due to cardinality issues where oracle ends up fetching a large percentage of the table via single reads on that index.

  • MDM plus DMS for file storage

    Hello folks
We are planning to implement MDM for rich product catalogue for a customer; the latter already has SAP DMS (Document Management System from SAP ERP) where the product image files are stored on a SAP Content Server.
Can we leave the images stored on the DMS Content Server and just use the link in MDM ??? Has anyone achived this already ?
I suppose the url must be generated by DMS as it is only from this component that SAP ERP knows the file is in the Content Server...
Any hint/help on this is most welcome !
    Thanks
    /Sooriya

    Hello,
I´m consultant from SAP Germany with experiences in MDM and in DMS systems too.
SAP Content Server is a simple DMS system which is able to store documents and provide them later on demand. For using this CS it is required to have an SAP basis component SAP Archive link version http 4.5 or higher available. This interface is not delivered as an MDM component. But it can be integrated.
I implemented into a PoC such a solution. The major challenge will be to store an image into that content server.
The display of such documents should be able directly from a content server by using Data Managers WEB-pane or onto portal by accessing the content from the WEB-Service.
I wrote a document with a description of such an example.
I´m not sure whether it will be possible to add a document into this forum. But i will provide this document as seperatre mail on demand to everyone who´s interested in..

  • ArchiveLink object (not DMS) for KB23N (Display Direct Activity Allocation)

Does anyone know the ArchiveLink object for KB23N for linking ArchiveLink (Scanned not SAP DMS) documents?
I can't seem to find a standard object in the object list so I thought I'd check here before attempt to create a custom ArchiveLink object for this area. There are a couple with similar names but configuring them doesn't enable the store business document option.

    Hi Athol,
We have observed that for MIGO transaction, the 'Store Business Document' option is disabled.Could you please let know how this can be enabled? We have serarched the forums,no inputs. Also, there is no indicator from the configuration side as well.

Did you try this question in BI forum.
i knowledge on BI in this area is not much. but lets say if you want to use SAP DMS , you could create business objects for different objects (ODS, CUBE etc) in transaction SWO1 and use it as key for storing it in SAP DMS (transaction OAOR)

  • DMS for emails

Hi. My office is currently setting up DMS with GroupWise 6.5. Everything
went well except I can't seem to figure out how to file emails into the
libraries. All we can do now is copy the contents of an email and paste it
into Word, then file that Word document. I'm sure there's got to be an
easier way to do it. Thanks in advance for your advice.
    Cheers,
    AW

If you have categories/subcat's that are 'required' than GW should prompt
you during the import. But this assumes you have set up custom fields for
    GW DMS.
And yes getting up to GW7 as Dave suggested is a good idea. Good luck!!

  • DMS for DBM module

Our requirement is to store the documents in DMS module from /DBM/Order02 transaction.
Is there any standard integration between DBM and DMS modules or should we go for developments?

  • DMS for Task list

    Hi,
I have done DMS the set up for equipment and functional location. Similar set I want to do for Task list. Please suggest if DMS can be used for task list as well?
    Regards,
    Meghana

    Hi,
I know this post is old, but to answer the question:
Yes, you can link, using Object Linking functionality a DIR to a PRT.
The object is a bit obscure in the object list, but, when selecting a object in the DMS Config>Define Document Type>Define Object Link, look for the object called CRVS_B.
This is the PRT Object Link's definition, which will then allow Object Linking functionality as required.
Please note that this is not the same as linking to a DIR from the PRT function in your PM transaction, doing it this way you would be able to navigate bidirectionally between DMS and PM.
    Regards,
    Freddie.

Can anyone help me in telling which carrier type i have to define in dc20 for Content server, if any required.

Error while checking in and storing:  Message no. 26253 .

This error usually comes beacuse of improper settings maintained in CSADMIN for repository:
Do few changes in CSADMIN Settings for repository:
ContentStorage Host : (Enter name instead of IP)
    ContentStorageName : WCC
    Storage : ContentStorage.dll

  • BOR or CLASS for Document Management Service (not SAP DMS for PLM)

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if there is already a BOR or CLASS that can be used in Workflow that works with the Document Management Service?  This is in reference to the diagram displayed in the following link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm40/helpdata/en/15/aea9375d79fb7de10000009b38f8cf/content.htm.
I assume that there must be a BOR or CLASS that uses DMS that I can use with workflow.
    Thanks.
