External aerial connectors on handsets

Why oh why have Nokia in all their wisdom, stopped putting external aerial connectors on their phones?
Now it is law to use handsfree kits in cars, Nokia appear to make it harder for us.
The beauty of having an aerial connector on the phone is once it is connected, the phones internal aerial is disconnected, thus preventing from RF bouncing around the handset.
In real world terms it means that you don't get interference on your car radio.
But now Nokia have made passive aerial couplers which don't disconnect the internal aerial, and leaves us all with RF interference problems.
Thanks Nokia!

Good idea!
Phones that work with older Pop-port car kits fully.
A comprehensive range of cradles with built in cable connection. They must charge the phone!
Proper detailed information on products that do not work fully -none of this "with a compatible cradle" and no more information nonsense. Helps to know if the car kit does work as expected with my phone before I purchase.
If all this is not possible, why not reduce the number of phones so that there is compatibility, net result will be customer satisfaction. This thread would not exist!

• External aerial in docking connector?

Many car kits are claimed to allow a phone to utilise the car's aerial, but if Apple's docking connector includes no such connection, the iPhone will never be able to take advantage of the improved signal.
Can anyone confirm if the docking connector includes a connection for an external aerial? Is it part of the docking connector spec?

Further research reveals that there is NO aerial/antenna connection specified in the original iPod docking connector. But there are several unused pins, so it's not impossible for Apple to have added this for iPhones. However, I have not been able to confirm this either way, so I'm hoping someone here has the definitive answer.
Anyone?

• External aerial for Time Capsule?

Simple question! Is it possible to get an external aerial for the Time Capsule? Reason: I have Time Capsule in my office but for some reason (thick walls?) there ia very little signal (1 bar on Airport sacnner) outside that room and my wife works on her MacBook Pro in another room. Would an external aerial (with about a 3m lead) placed outside the room solve the problem or would we be better off with Airport Express to extend the range? If an aerial what and where from? Ta very much

Hello revandybw. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You have several options:
1) QuickerTek's Dualy Extreme. This product would provide an external antenna for the Time Capsule (TC).
2) hField Technologies' Wi-Fire. This product would be an external antenna for the MacBook, or as you have mentioned:
3) Use an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) to extend the range of the TC.

• External Navigation Connector - When is it executed?

Hi,
I'm implementing an external navigation connector. My understanding was that the connector was executed at the potal runtime, and therefore the navigation tree from the external system is fetched every time a user opens a portal. However, it appears that it gets executed when I deploy the par file to the server??? If that's the case, this connector is no good since the navigation tree from the external system will be stale! Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Help!
Mina
Edited by: Mina Gould on Oct 3, 2008 5:59 PM

Hi Mina,
this answer comes too late I guess but still...
external navigation connectors are invoked when the portal needs to build the navigation tree. This usually happens when a navigation is being performed (i.e. the user has clicked somewhere in the TLN or DLN). There's no reason for invoking the connector right after deploy if that's so there's something wrong.
Bear in mind that portal does not support caching for external navigation connectors (I assume you are using 04s). It says it does support but there is an internal bug and as a matter of fact you have to take care for caching your navigation trees by your self.
Good luck and best regards,

• Need external antenna connector for old Nokia 5110...

Hi all, this is a long shot I admit, but doesn anyone know what type of connector (and where to purchase) was used on the old 5110/6110 Nokia phones, it is the external connector located on the rear behind the rubber grommit use for the car kits... I need some of those connectors.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

Hi omega1
I should be able to help you.
If you want to connect your 6110/6150/7110 to an external connector, we have a adaptor lead to do just this.
Plugs into rear antenna socket with short lead to fme plug - then you can connect your antenna cable to this.
Let me know how many you need.

• External Business Connector to ECC via XI

Hi,
i have following scenario:
external customer of our client sends IDocs via BC to XI, from XI to ECC.
XI to ECC is no problem but i have doubts in using BC-Sender-Adapter.
Doubts concerning what kind of paramters the client needs to send IDoc to XI. Because it is HTTP-Protocol he needs an URL! Can anyone provide me this URL?
Or do i need a RFC additionally?!
Does someboday has a step-by-step solution?
Need help - br Jens

Hi ok because i am not aware of everything i have to do to make this scenario work i have at least this question.
Because i have to give the sender an URL for the PlainHTTP Sender-Adapter the URL has to be like this:
http://xxxxx:8000/sap/xi/adapter_plain?namespace=http%3A//sap.com/xi/yyyyy&interface=abcd&service=ghj&sap-user=skapu&sap-password=super
But in case of Idoc-Tunneling, what will be the interface=abcd - will it be the IDoc itself and when how does it have to look like?!
really appreciate ur help so far,

• Replacement tv tuner external rf-connector short accessory cable

I am looking to purchase 2 extra tv antenna small cable connectors like the one that came with my HP Pavilion DV7T-3300 product WH764AV. It is used to connect from my rf coax standard connector (from my antenna up on my roof) and then into the right side tv tuner (avermedia) port on the laptop. The one I have works fine, but I would like a coule spare ones to use at different locations I bring my laptop to and leave them permanently connected to the cable coax line in those locations. The maintenance guide for my lapto indicates the little cable is possibly part 501891-001 but there is no picture of it. FIrst, has anyone successfully ordered one of these, and can you confirm that is the correct part#, and secondly, do you uknow if I can order just that cable without purchasing a "kit" of other cables with it? The kit seems expensive at around $70 if I found it correctly. Can anyone tell me what is the exact type of connector that is on the end that plugs into the side of the laptop, since maybe I could find it online separately from another source or local cable store. I ordered one from Avermedia directly (that's who makes the tv tune dard for my HP laptop), but although it looks similar, it did not fit into the port on the side of the laptop. They offerred no other help. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for providing the avermedia link. Unfortunately, that is the cable I purchased, and it does not fit into the tv tuner port on the side of my 2010 HP laptop 17 pavilion. HP is saying I need to purchase a cable kit, which is $76. I just want the one cable, not all of them in the kit. Avermedia's cable was only $4, but it was the wrong size. Does anyone know the exact type and size the HP version of the cable tip is -- I believe it is an MCX connector, but what depth and size in mm perhaps, since it is very tiny? There are some other sites in China that have MCX connectors, but I need to know the exact type and size of the MCX connector that HP is using to go from their Avermedia tv tuner to port on the laptop, since there are so many different MCX sizes apparently. Looks like HP used their own module connector cable and not Avermedia's MCX. Sorry this is so complicated, I just cannot get a good answer from HP other than to buy a $76 cable kit, when I just need the one replacement $4 three inch cable that came with the laptop. Thanks!

• CK-7W & 6300

I have a CK-7W boxed, unused, but I think it's the older model; data cable is CA 27; there is no CA 116 in the kit.
Is there a suitable charging phone holder with external aerial connector compatible with this kit?

Nokia do not make a charging cradle for 6300, you will have to connect via bluetooth and use a universal holder, you will have to use a cigar lighter socket power lead to charge.

• Where is External Connector Property?

I'm looking into implementing an External Navigation Connector which will fetch the navigation nodes from an external system for the middle of the navigation hierarchy. According to the documentation ([Adding External Connector Nodes|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/45/003c4b3be30485e10000000a155369/content.htm]), I'm supposed to set a "key" in "External Connector" property in a workset, role or role folder, but I cannot find the property. Do I have to customize the SAP delivered components and add this property? What am I missing here?
Thanks!
Mina
Edited by: Mina Gould on Jul 23, 2008 9:51 PM

Hi Mina,
The property does not appear in the Workset or Role creation wizard. After creating the PCD object, open it in the edit mode, and make sure you select the property category as "Navigation" or "Show All". You should be able to see the "External Connector" property.
No customization is required to add the property.
Hope this is useful.

• Nokia car kit - aerial connection

I have a professionally fitted Nokia car kit for my E50. I'm changing my phone and thought all I had to do was change the cradle .... not so. The cradle has an external aerial lead that links to the inbuilt roof aerial on the car ( Saab ), but this cable is hardwired into the cradle and runs in behind the dash where I guess it connectes to the cars system. So I'm faced with pulling out the dash just to change a cradle.
Is there any other option here ? Are there inline aerial connectors I could use which would allow me to descretely cut the cable and link it to another cradle suitable for my new handset .
Andrew

Thanks for the replies folks.
Some more info that should have included in the original post.
The car is a Saab 95.
I'm in the UK
The car kit is a Nokia CK-7W.
The new phone will be a Nokia 6500
I'll have a look at the dash and see if its in any way similar to the 93. Maybe access is easier than I think.
But another question I'm afraid. The CK-7W wiring loom connects into the base of the cradle and is the same multi pin plug that would connect directly into the E50 phone. If I get a new cradle for the Nokia 6500, I assume the connection into the base of the cradle is going to be compltetely different ?

• Connecting external antenna to 6310i

Hello there, I'm hoping someone can help me with a little info. I have a very poor signal in my workshop, but I have an old Nokia 6310i which has an external aerial socket.
RS used to sell a short lead which converted the nokia port to a "standard" type connector.
Can anyone tell me where I can get the short lead I have described, and what sort of aerial, ie what "gain" I can use.
The intention is to put the aerial outside on a post, high up, I think you use 50ohm cable? Can anyone confirm this?
Then I can use a blue tooth ear piece to recieve calls. Well the the theory anyway. Any advice would be very welcome. Many thanks Baz

Couplers are very sensitive lo location.
Depending on the type of coupler there are "near field" couplers and so called "far field" couplers.
Most consumer couplers are near field as they are simpler and cheaper. They require that the antenna is almost touching the coupler. Also the orientation matters a lot, as the RF signal is polarized (trust me unless you are a telecom engineer you don't want to know).
Lastly couplers tend to have a significant loss of signal, the loss of signal could be greater than the gain the antenna provides, thus nullifying the effect of gain. But since the antenna can be located in a better place there are other benefits.
What antenna are you using to test it?, antenna gain is also important. Some antennas require a ground plane (or metal plate) to be effective. Antennas come in Unigain, 3, 5, 9 12 dB, etc. But they are also sensitive to where they are pointing and how they are installed. Antennas of the type that have two parts and go through your car windows tend to not be very good.
There are some antennas that are "elevated" they have an extra part, this part makes it so that they don't need a ground plane or reflective plane to work well.
Yagi antennas are highly directional so you have to be pointing exactly where the base station is in order to get any gain. The length of cable you use and the connectors is also very important, you can loose more signal in long cables with poor connectors that what you gain with the antenna.

• G50 won't switch to external display

I've updated the Intel video driver to the latest, 6.14.10.4277, but I still can't get my external display to work with my G40 through the external VGA connector. The display works with my R40, but not with my G40. It doesn't even show anything during boot. I'm using the driver for the Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. I've set the BIOS to display both on bootup, but still don't get anything on bootup either. Any ideas? I can't say this has ever worked, because I haven't tried it until now.

First, try resetting the parameter RAM:
Hold down keys CMD-Option-p-r on startup until you hear the second chime.

• Old iMac hard drive to external enclosure

The logic board on my old iMac (20" core duo...2006 model) but the hard drive is ok. I'd like to put it into an external enclosure but can't get it to fit.
1/ there's an external chip/connector on the side, half way down that blocks it fitting into the enclosure. I've never seen this on a hard drive before. What is this and what can I do to it (ie, remove it, ignore it etc)
2/ When it connects, it soon disconnects itself (a mater of seconds). Does this have anything to do with the chip on the side?
Basically, how can I get this done?
Any help appreciated.

Hi John,
It's a 2.5" drive. I would go with a firewire enclosure so you can boot from it. http://www.macsales sells a good one.

• [Solved] Playing movie on external monitor gives me a blue screen

Nevermind. I found the xvattr package in the AUR.
I've tried this on both VLC and Mplayer and everytime the movie starts I see blue instead. On the built in monitor for my laptop the DVD is viewable. To get tv-out I use this command:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1024x768
I thought that this might have to do with the standard that is set so I tried to change it with the advice on the wiki (for ATi drivers):
xrandr --output VGA-0 --set tv_standard ntsc
But it gives me this:
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 150 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 11 (RRQueryOutputProperty)
Serial number of failed request: 27
Current serial number in output stream: 27
How do I get DVD's to play on an external monitor?

So I have the exact same issue (never a problem with my G4 12" Powerbook).
I found this in an Apple support document:
"When you are finished using your MacBook Pro, MacBook, or PowerBook G4 in closed-lid mode, the internal display will not come on when you open the lid until you have disconnected the external display. If you want the internal display to enable again, remove the external display connector, put the computer to sleep, and then open the lid. This will toggle the computer to come out of closed-lid mode and once again provide power and a video signal to the internal display."
I'm not sure how you put the MBP to sleep in closed lid mode if you have already removed the external display....
I am going to try putting the MPB to sleep, THEN removing the external display, then re-waking..... We'll see
The article is at:

Good luck!

• Has anyone had any success with an external antenna on a UMW190?

Although I am getting good service from my UMW190 without an external antenna, I am in a low signal area and would like to have rock solid coverage.
I have tried a 1900Mhz yagi, a blade antenna, an omni, and a grid antenna. I am not seeing any difference in signal strength at all regardless of whether or not an antenna is connected and which way it is pointed. I have also tried two different pigtails form two different sources, and even borrowed a second UMW190 and tried it, all with no success. I know exactly where the tower serving my house is located, but I did try each of the directional antennas in a full 360 degree circle, stopping every few degrees to see if the RSSI improved. I tried both polarities too, although I understand it should be vertical.
When I contacted Verizon customer support they had very little information about it. I contacted Pantech, and they told me that support for this device is now handled by UTstarcom. UTStarcom told me that support for this device is now handled by Personal Communication Devices. When I contacted them the response was (and I quote) "We don't have any information on any external antenna support of our devices".
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Gurus here in the forum.
Am I missing something obvious? Is there a command that "activates" the external antenna connector? Does the connector even have anything connected to it inside the modem?
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!
-Rick

Usually the external antenna works best where service is obstructed by certain materials and the external antenna is placed in a different area . If the signal is steady for the external antenna and the UMW190 in the area where you are using the devices, that would be the general signal strength of that area.
