External Antenna Configuration IOS 12.3

What is the effect if an external antenna is connected, but the radio configuration has the "External Antenna Configuration" disabled?
Is the radio functioning on the internal antenna only, or is the external antenna functioning without a set gain?

It seems like a bug CSCsl17857 C1231 running 12.3(8)JEC unable to set transmit/receive antenna options. C1231 running the IOS image 12.3(8)JEC will not display the options to change antenna to diversity, right or left. The command under dot11radio0 becomes unavailable. On the GUI of the AP only display the options for antenna transmit/receive but on change and apply, you will get the error "page cannot be display".

    Newbie question.
I want to deploy a WAP with an outside antenna to improve my range.  After  a few hours googling and reading,
    can I ask some questions.
It seems that I will need an 1250 WAP, which requires 3 antennas to work correctly.
Trawling the Cicso antenna options,  the only 2 that seem relevant are the AIR-ANT1728, which says it is inside/outside,
and the more promising AIR-ANT2506 which is a mast mount option.  Unfortunately, they do not offer an outside mulitple
    antenna mounting kit.
So if I have to fabricate something....  what sort of configuration do I use. I have checked out some of the hobbyist
web sites and there are some "spectacular" designs ;-)
Do I have to have all of the antennas in a row ?  Or it does not matter.
Is the spacing between the antennas important ? If so  .. what are the measurements ?
The antennas offered by Cisco have short "pigtails".  So if mounting outside, I will have to use a cable
extension.  How do I waterproof the join ?  One of the installation guides "helpfully" mentions some
coaxial sealant.  Just looks like some sort of "silastic" to me.
    Your thoughts. ?
    TIA
    Peter

What we've done is mount the AP and antennae units higher than the cable run.  That way moisture won't go UP the AP or antennae enclosures.  You can also get weather enclosures to protect either the AP or antennae (or both separately).

NOTE:  When you are perusing these links, pay close attention to the horizontal and veritical azimuth.  This will tell you what the signal pattern is like.

  • External antennas and gain settings

    Cisco AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9.
In the web interface, if one goes to:
    Network Interfaces/Radio0-802.11G/Setting tab
half way down the page there's a section called External Antenna Configuration and you can enter an Antenna Gain in the box.
The access point came originally with two small plastic antennas, about 6 inches long but I took these off and connected two external antennas, one is 3db, the other 6db. Should I enter 6db in the box or does the access point set the gain automatically? At the moment all antenna settings are at default.

In the case of a Dish, yes, it would absolutely impact your throughput.
It would be better to put the dish on one port and disable the other port.
The dual ports are for diversity; in an inside environment, having two antennas a small distance apart reduces the effects of "multipath" and "nulls" ... multipath is when there are several images of the same transmission (from multiple reflections), nulls occur when you combine a series of waves (like a primary wave and a near reflection) and the combined waves, added together, result a greatly diminished signal (like a "plus" 35 meeting a "minus" 35 ... the result is a null, or no signal).
For point-to-point, or point-to-multipoint diversity is generally not desired or needed.
The way the antennas are used does not permit efficient operation for coverage of more than one specific area.
    Good Luck
    Scott

  • NCS report getting information on external antennas

    Hi,
Is it possible to run a report that shows which external antennas are configured on the APs?
And which AP templates are applied on which APs?
    /Aksel

    Hi,
As per my knowledge it is not possible that NCS report shows this type of information.
Further information about Cisco Prime NCS
Go through the below NCS Configuration guide.

  • Problem on Cisco AP 1240AG and External Antenna

    Hi all :
I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Please help below few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
    1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
    2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?
Many Thanks in advance and best regards,
    tangsuan

1240 is the product "line," 1242 is the specific model.  The come in both G and AG variants. The link below is a picture of an AG variant (with both an 2.4 Ghz "A" radio and a 5 Ghz "G" radio).  The two antenna ports on the top in the blow image are for the 5 Ghz radio, and there should be some blue text indicating as much.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/wireless/ps5678/ps6521/prod_large_photo0900aecd8031d92d.jpg
If you don't have the two antenna ports on top, and just have two near the ethernet and console ports, then you have a "G" model, which only have a 2.4 Ghz radio.  See my pic below.  G model on the left, AG on the right.

The 1310's either have an external antenna connector or an integrated antenna. They don't have both.
The part number AIR-BR1310G-x-K9-R requires and external antenna. AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 has the integrated antenna.

  • Cisco 1300 Series with AIR-ANT24120 external antenna

    Here,
I am using Cisco 1300 Outdoor Access Point/Bridge. I connect AIR-ANT24120 omni antenna to the Right Primary connector but i'm not sure whether the AIR-ANT24120 is working or not because i find no difference in range before and after i deploy my AIR-ANT24120. Please could anyone confirm the working configure for this AIR-ANT24120 on my case. The 1300 Access Poiny/Bridge running C1310 Software Version 12.3(8) JA2.

Thanks for the advice. Things now is much clear now. i am connecting a client to the 1310. For a bridge link i can definetly associate from few kilometers away. But i was thinking that it is also possible to associate from few kilometer away using my labtop also. In orther words i am trying to connect a client to the 1310. Please if you have additional words on this, please i am really appreciate that co's i am sure it would help clarify more on this issue. Especially the limitation of clients or how far can i connect my client to the 1310, Or are there any special configuration on the 1310 plus my 12 dbi omni external antenna attach to it that would increase the range for my clients or is it only 100M-200M the maximum range for client irregardless of the external high gain antenna and all.
    thanks.

  • WAP200E and WAP200 as repeaters, external antennas, poor signal

I am having some weird things happen...
I have setup a WAP200E external w/o optional antenna and using (2) WAP200 internal units in separate buildings setup as repeaters.  I have added a external
Yagi 10Dbi directional antenna to both repeaters with short cables and using the standard antenna for the internal wireless needs.
Both buildings are about 200' line of sight from the WAP200E with a angle of less then 45 degrees from the WAP200E,
I am getting a signal that continually jumps from 20% - 60% Channel keep changing etc...  looks like a typically poor signal connection
I am able to access the internet from either repeater, but not reliably
    Question 1: External Antenna....
I was going to install a similar external Yagi antenna on WAP200E but I was reading that the external antenna in turned on automatically when the WAP200E
senses a antenna. Cisco only certifies one particular antenna to connect to the WAP200E and that is the  HGA9N which is a 9DBI omni directional antenna
I would much rather use a directional antenna, but I was reading that the WAP200E may not reconize any other antenna's, plus I cant find any way to determine if the WAP200E actually turns on the external antenna.   Does anyone have any experience using the WAP200E with external antennas?
    Question 2:
    SSID's on repeaters
On the WAP200E and WAP200 units, It show that that repeaters can have unique SSID's I tested them using the same SSID as the A/P and also with unique SSID's  Which approach would be the more reliable?
    Question 3:
    Freq Channels setting:
Typically I would set the channel to be fixed on all three units to keep them from hopping from channel to channel. Is my logic correct?
Is there any way to determine which channel is the best, beside trial and error?
Also, can I lock the speed to a slower setting to help improve reliability?
    Question 4:
    Bridging:
I was considering setting up one of the repeaters as a bridge can the WAP200E A/P handle communicating with a bridge and a repeater at the same time?
Does anyone have any experience using these as bridges?  I see a few issues online regarding briging with these units
Wireless is tough enough, but flakey wireless product can make you wish had a wire
Firmware... 1.20 on the WAP200E A/P unit.. I guess I will try 1.20a but the blogs say it doesnt matter
Firmware on the WAP200 unit is unknown at the moment
    Thanks in advance

    Update...
After speaking with Linksys support staff, they informed me that the antenna jacks on the WAP200 are slightly different
One jack is TX & RX and the other jack is RX only...
It is not documented or labeled as such on the device.
The support person told me it was the right jack when facing the rear of the unit with the network jack facing you. but this is the way I
had it configured... so for giggles I swapped the antenna jacks and presto it works fine
    Many thanks
    Bob

  • Error on External Serrvice Configuration Page NW 20047s SP10

    Hi All,
I am working on CAF developement. I was trying to develop an CAF application using External Service. I used SAP ECC 5.0 server to import a RFC functional module. It was successfully imported in NWDS. Also it got successfully deployed on the Server NW2004s SP10. But when i opened external service configuration page -> service registery it gave me a null pointer exception.
To solve the problem, i removed the RFC functional module from NWDS and
re-deployed the same application, but the error is still there.
One solution i got is to undeploy the application from the server. After doing this I was able to get the External service configuration page -> service registery without any error. BUT WHEN I DEPLOY THE SAME APPLICATION REMOVING THE RFC THE ERROR IS COMMING AGAIN.
I think there must be some entry on the server which stores the External services imported on the NW 2004s server.
    Please Help. ITS VERY URGENT
    thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Sheetal

  • When I use a GSI external antenna for WiFi I first get a message that "Firefox is already running but not responding etc", and then Firefox crashes. Can anyone help please?

Because of weak WiFi signal I need to use an external antenna (GSI USB wireless WIFI long range network adapter). My computer can see the signal clearly and shows that I am connected to the right network. But when I try to launch Firefox I get a message that "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." When I click "OK" Firefox tries to load websites but gives up and reports "Problem Loading". It looks like Firefox is having trouble "seeing" the signal from the external antenna. What do I need to do please?

Try Ubuntu support, I don't think your problem is with Firefox - it will use the connection that the Operating System "makes". I'm a real noob with Ubuntu myself, and don't think I can help you figure out the problem.

  • Has anyone had any success with an external antenna on a UMW190?

Although I am getting good service from my UMW190 without an external antenna, I am in a low signal area and would like to have rock solid coverage.
I have tried a 1900Mhz yagi, a blade antenna, an omni, and a grid antenna.  I am not seeing any difference in signal strength at all regardless of whether or not an antenna is connected and which way it is pointed.  I have also tried two different pigtails form two different sources, and even borrowed a second UMW190 and tried it, all with no success. I know exactly where the tower serving my house is located, but I did try each of the directional antennas in a full 360 degree circle, stopping every few degrees to see if the RSSI improved. I tried both polarities too, although I understand it should be vertical.
When  I contacted Verizon customer support they had very little information about it.  I contacted Pantech, and they told me that support for this device is now handled by UTstarcom.  UTStarcom told me that support for this device is now handled by Personal Communication Devices.  When I contacted them the response was (and I quote) "We don't have any information on any external antenna support of our devices".
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Gurus here in the forum.
Am I missing something obvious?  Is there a command that "activates" the external antenna connector? Does the connector even have anything connected to it inside the modem?
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!
    -Rick

Usually the external antenna works best where service is obstructed  by certain materials and the external antenna is placed in a different area .  If the signal is steady for the external antenna and the UMW190 in the area where you are using the devices, that would be the general signal strength of that area.

  • CAF WebServices don't appear in CAF Admin's External Service Configuration

    Hi,
I have developed Web Services in CAF and deployed them on the WAS but they don't appear on the CAF Administrative Tools -> External Service Configuration under Service Registry.  They appear in the Web Service Navigator running on the J2EE-Engine but I can't set the authentication mode.
    What am doing incorrectly?
    Thanks.
    Dick

    Hi Richard,
as far as i know the External Service configuration is only for web services (or RFC's) which are imported as external service in a CAF-Project.
I assume you developed a application service in CAF and applied a web service on this. Those web services are not visible in external Service Configuration only (as you have found) in Service Navigator)
    I hope this helps,
    best regards,
    Rene

  • Treo 700P external antenna jack

I just recently purchased a Treo 700P and a external antenna adaptor, the adaptor does not fit my phone. When I was shopping for my phone I looked at a new Treo 700P at the Verizon store and saw that it had a external antenna jack. The jack on the new phone was much smaller than the one that is on my phone. Did Palm at some point in time change the dimensions of the external jack? My jack is gold colored and has the appearance of a mini rca jack with a center hole that takes a thick center conductor.

gjkozy, the fault is with the Vendor who sold you the phone and didn't give you a disk with it, not Palm's...
Palm supplies a disk with every new phone that is sold.   Did the vendor lie to you when the phone was sold?  Or was it listed as "Phone and charger Only"?
The disk cannot be downloaded for free due to the fact there are third-party, copywritten programs on each one.  These are not "free for the taking" by anyone wanting to click on a download link.
There are dozens of free Solitaire games available on www.freewarepalm.com.  There are lots of Voice Dial programs for sale on the internet.  Instead of spending money for the old disk, why not just purchase an updated Voice dialing program?
BTW, I'm assuming you know that no PalmOS phone can Voice dial through a BlueTooth earpiece.  It's a limitation of the OS.  If that is the goal of getting Voice Dial software, save your money!
I'm sorry about the antenna problem, I have no suggestions for that.

  • Possible to mount off the external antenna of the MSI AP11B?

Hi! I am thinking of buying the MSI AP11B Acces Point. But is it possible to mount of the external antenna, and mount another antenna to boost up the signal?
    Best Regards

First I want to tell that my english is very bad ..
The external antenna basicly is a RF cable and nothing more. Put one RF conector on this short cable (aprox 5-6 cm) and attache an external antena. You must change in web settings antenna type for external ....
Inside the AP you find a internal patch antena. In diversity mode the AP use both.

  • External antenna or weather proof Airport Express

Does anyone have a solution for connecting an external antenna to an Airport device, be it an Express or Extreme via coax. With the insulation on my house having a metallic cladding the signal is attenuated significantly and outdoor reception is poor to non-existent (iPhone to iPad respectively). The other solution would be a weather proof box? or the like. Freezer bags don't make it.

solution for connecting an external antenna
Be sure to check with your HOA (Home Owners Association) first. Most HOAs restrict antennas in various ways.
Some HOAs do not allow any type of radio transmission.
