External Appearance of Macbook Pro

Hello, I have a problem with my mid 2012 Macbook Pro but it's entirely about the surface, the performance is fine. Is it possible if I want to polish the scratched surface and fix the crooked edge? I bent the bottom right of my Mac and until now I haven't found the possible place to fix it or even if it's possible to be fixed. Thank you for the answers.

Bending aluminum is possible but can be very difficult, having done it myself  The best alternative is to replace the damaged component with a new one.  That way accidents and risks are eliminated.
Ciao.

  • How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connector without a usb

How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connecter, only a port.

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.
What model MacBook Pro do you have, by year, CPU speed or MacBook Pro 3.1 designation?

  • I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

  • How do I hook up external speaker to macbook pro

How do I hook up external speaker to macbook pro?

The external speaker needs to be active - have it's own power source and amplifier - then you can just hook it up with an appropriate cable from the headphone output socket of the Mac.  If you want to go wireless, you would need to get an Airport Express - probably overkill - or get a bluetooth dongle that could be hooked to the speakers input.
If the external speaker is passive, you would need to attach it to a HiFi and hook the Mac up to the input of the HiFi.

Have just connected a viewsonic external monitor to macbook pro 10.6.8, had everything up and running fine for about an hour then the macbook quit. No power (ws running off power source) Have I killed my macbook? Help!

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.

Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help!

    Hi ..
Shift key boots into Safe Mode, not Recovery.
This only works on a Mac running v10.7 Lion or later.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery
If you can't boot into Recovery Mode, help here >   Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

Can't connect external projector to MacBook Pro running Windows7. Any suggestions?

Did you try a cable? The point is you did not provide any information about: what projector, how you are trying to connect, what happens when you try, error messages if any, does an external monitor work, what computer you have, what OS, etc.

  • 24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?

I'm a video editor looking for a new laptop. Tough decisions, but these facts may help my decision...
Can I use my 24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?
And if so, would the Macbook be able to access the external hard drives that are connected to the iMac? Or do the external hard drives have to be connected to the Macbook Retina?
Retina's picture quality is just incredible but compared to Macbook Pro non-retina you sacrifice: disc drive, port options, customization, anti-glare screen. And its more expensive. Arghh

I would use the retina as the primary screen for the canvas and viewer, while putting the browser and timeline on the iMac.
Apple won't help here. Unfortunately, they leave they're old products in the dust and wouldn't waste time writing an article about connecting a macbook retina to an '07 iMac.
Thank you for replying though Ralph. The answer has to be out there somewhere.

  • External Monitor on Macbook Pro freezes after deleting old profiles

    Environment:
15 inch MacBook Pro, Mid 2010, 2.4 GHz, 8GB, NVIDIA GeForce graphics
    Yosemite 10.10.1
External Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 245T running in Extended Mode with the laptop
I have been using the above setup for several years with no issues. Yesterday I did a calibration of the external SyncMaster monitor with Datacolor Spyder3 as I have done many times in the past. The calibration was saved, but an error message flashed by before the file was saved. Checking with the ColorSync utility, the new saved colorspace appeared somewhat smaller than the last one.
I noticed that I had too many old profiles from previous calibrations still there, so I tried cleaning the directory up. I opened System Pref/Display/Color, clicked on an unwanted profile and delete the profile, and reset it to the profile that I wanted. Repeated this a few times and the SyncMaster appeared to be good.
Now I tried the same with the Macbook. Fine, deleted a few profiles but something now messed up the SyncMaster. It colors, including the dock, contorted to an ugly mess. Cursor changed to a spinning wheel, and I could not click or select anything either on the SyncMaster or the Mac. Rebooted, pulling the Syncmaster adapter out of the mac. Everything good, until I plug the Syncmaster back in, and I am back to the spinning wheel.
There must be some way to uninstall, re-install the Syncmaster?
    How can I resolve this?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • External monitor for macbook pro with dead screen

Macbook pro built in 2007 has a dead screen but is otherwise ok. Connected external monitor displays only the astral starburst screen on all macs. How can I get the monitor to display my desktop if I can't see the macbook screen?

Connected external monitor displays only the astral starburst screen on all macs.
Then it is working as designed.
By default, the external screen is combined with the built-in screen into an Extended Desktop, as seen in the Arrange tab below. You need to (Gather Windows) to get all controls on all displays, then drag the tiny white MenuBar to the display where you want it to appear. Then things will begin to operate as you expect.

I have tried all new cables and the monitor on another system.
    Any help would be appreciated.

What interface, and what cables and adapters are you using?

  • How to drive Two External Displays w/MacBook Pro

I'd like to drive 2 external 24" displays with my MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,1 -- mid 2009 I think) and have a couple of questions before I spend the money on the displays:
    1) It appears this can be done based on some of the other threads I've read, but I just want to be sure.
    2) I'll buy matched displays, but what is the max resolution I can drive them at? Just don't want to waste money on resolution I can't use.
    3) What video adapters do I need to use for this?
    Thanks much in advance.

The Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition can drive two 1920 x 1200 displays off the MBP's mini-Displayport:
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/
Note that only the DP Edition, and not the Digital Edition, supports this resolution when used with a unibody MBP.
Then there are USB video adapters, all or most of which do NOT support 1920 x 1200:

  • Migration Assistant can't find External HD on MacBook Pro Mid-2012

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2012 running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and I am trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer Time Machine backups that are on my external hard drive, that I backed up from my old MacBook Mid-2010. The problem I am having is that Migration Assistant can't find my external hard drive. My MacBook Pro can find it when I plug it in (I see it in Finder), but Migration Assistant can't. Can anyone help or should I go to the Apple Store?  I need help with this problem as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance,
    - Daniel 

Since no one replied I figured out how to do it myself.
1.) First I plugged in my external hard drive with my Time Machine backups on them, then I opened Finder and click on my external hard drive under devices.
2.) Next I clicked on and opened the folder named "Backups.backupdb"
3.) Once inside that folder I could see folders with the backups from Time Machine and all of the folders names were the date I backed up that backup. I clicked and opended the lastest backup folder.
4.) Inside that folder, I clicked and opened the folder named "Macintosh HD"
5.) Inside that folder, I clicked and opended the folder named "Users"
6.) Inside that folder, I clicked and opended the folder named "Daniel" which was my Username on my previous Mac.
7.) Finally I could see and access all my folders from my Time Machine backups from my previous Mac.
Keep in mind this is only helpful if you are trying to access old backups (backed up from another Mac) on a new or different Mac. (Sorry for the blurry images)
Hope this somehow helps someone else,

  • External iSight on MacBook Pro - but not in iChat!

    Hello all,
I'm considering the purchase of an iSight camera on ebay to use on my MacBook pro.
Does the Mac fully recognize the camera across all applications? For example, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, QuickTime Pro, etc., etc., etc.
Does it recognize it along with the built in one for everything? Is there a way to set it in the preferences as the default in case a given application only recognizes a default camera rather than giving me an option?
    Cheers,
    Aaron
    Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Aaron
I'm considering the purchase of an iSight camera on ebay to use on my MacBook pro.
Even if the iSight you are buying through an internet auction site is a NOS (new, old stock) iSight, it may not be covered by Apple Warranty. If the seller is not providing you service guarantees or warranty, you may be interested in considering Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions.
Moreover, if the one you buy is used, you may also want to be certain whether the connectors, cables, and mounts that meet your needs are included.
Does the Mac fully recognize the camera across all applications?
It does for Skype and the apps (caveats as listed) in this list of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight. The only way to really know whether an app will work with iSight is to check the System Requirements for each application you contemplate using with a webcam.
Does it recognize it along with the built in one for everything? Is there a way to set it in the preferences as the default in case a given application only recognizes a default camera rather than giving me an option?
Some applications allow you to switch between multiple cameras when you have more than one connected. Such apps would let you select between your built-in iSight and an external. iMovie and iChat AV are two that do this. See the documentation for other apps to determine whether they have the ability to select between multiple connected cameras.
I know of no way (or need) to set the preferences for a default camera. Applications that will not allow switching between multiple cameras will recognize only the one their software expects. Apps that do allow switching will let you choose which you want.
