External Audio mutes after a few seconds
Hi,
I have a black Macbook about an year old. Every time I plug-in my Headphones, after 10-50 seconds the output mutes. When I unplug them the output from the internal speakers starts. After re-plugging the Headphones it mutes again after 10-50 seconds.
I've done several resets as suggested on the Apple Support Page. I've deleted the sound preferences and rebooted my mac.
Anyone has any suggestions what I could try to get the external audio working again? An no there is no red light coming from the Audio Input .
Best regards,
Christopher
Hi,
sorry but your tip didn't help this time but thank you for your reply. I've rebooted my MacBook, resetted the Battery status, deleted the Sound preferences etc... I tried everything if found on the Net, except sticking matches up the audio port because this problem is somewhat different from mine.
I've Apple Customer Care Support and tried to phone the Support and he wanted to charge 49$ for an answer just like in your case. I'm somewhat disappointed with the Apple Support. Tomorrow I'll try to call the Support again and try sending in my MacBook what equals to do a full backup and erasing the HD what somewhat gets on my nerves.
This is a reproduce able problem so it should be fixable by myself or at least if it isn't fixable there should be an entry in the FAQ that I should send my MacBook in or something like that.

Audio stops after a few seconds
I tried the Starter Patch (just a single EVP88 instrument) and every few seconds the audio just stops in the middle of notes, then after a slight delay new notes will play. This happens with my external audio interface as well as when using built-in audio, so I don't think it is a driver issue (also Logic 7 and 8 work just fine with my audio interface).
A few times I noticed the CPU meter built in to the app jumped up to 100% just before the dropout, but this happens too suddenly for Activity Monitor to notice the increased CPU usage. My machine is a Dual 2.3 G5, 1.5G of RAM, and should be able to handle this without any trouble.
Changing the I/O buffer size from 128 to 256 seems to help, but I still get occasional dropouts. A buffer size of 512 seems to work well. This surprises me since I normally work with a buffer size of 64 in Logic, and expected Main Stage to work similarly.
DaveI turned off "I/O Safety Buffer" and MainStage has been working a lot better. No dropouts with a buffer size of 128. I can also use a buffer size of 64 provided I don't pile on too many effects (Space Designer can use a lot of CPU).

Sound stops after a few seconds
I have a HP G61, Product Code VY441EA#ABU. OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Audio stops after a few seconds. This happens on TV i-players, BBC News website clips, football streaming sites, even the HP Support site's tutorials. I have done a System Restore to a point when I know this was not a problem. I have downloaded the audio driver for my laptop from the HP site. I have tried the MS audio troubleshoot fix, which found no problems. I would sure be grateful for any other ideas to try!
Hello GrahamBIOM,
I understand while viewing a video or listening to some different content, you lose audio, is that correct? I will do all I can to assist you with this issue.
Does the issue occur when you have headphones inserted? If you are not sure, if you have a set of headphones available could you test that please?
Please respond back at your earliest convenience with results.
Thanks

"AU audio file player" stops playing after a few seconds
Hi there,
i use "AU audio file player" in my concert set up.
It worked fine til yet, but now it just stops playing after a few seconds.
The track is 3 minutes, but it stops suddenly.
I tried to reload the tracks and tried loading the "AU audio fle player" into a new session,
but it still stops playing in any of the sets.
Any idea?
Thank you very much, SHi Susanna,
I did not find a way to trigger it from the keyboard...
So I decided the following: I made a short cut for QuicKeys which opens the AUAudioFilePlayer and starts the loop I need. A quick solution which works with just hitting one key on the computer and the loop player starts. This works pretty well with QuicKeys but not with MS, the problem: sometimes when I choose by double clicking the AUAudioFilePlayer a black window shows up and only the name is readable, nothing else. I have to close it, reopen it and then- perhaps- the AU shows up and I can push the play button. Do you now that problem?

On an IPad 1 even after a full restart, and only application running, I'm finding that Audio recoding stops after a few seconds. The duration seems to be fairly random between 5 seconds to 25 seconds. Creating other tracks seems OK.
Any ideas would be appreciated.I've seen this issue in the past. I think it is connected to the operating system itself. I say this because I reinstalled the os using itunes and then restored a backup. Then garageband started behaving again. Then the issue came back - after I did an os update. So I'd try reverting back to a fresh version of the latest os, and then restoring your apps using a backup.
Hope it helps

Audio Issues - Sound stops on youtube vid after a few seconds. Please Help?
What's been happening is weird audio issues, especially youtube related though not only (other web video content has been messed up, but mostly youtube). Right now I am using headphones (1/8" or 3.5mm) through the back of the computer and when I turn on the computer, at first I can hear sound from videos. When I open the speaker icon mixer window in the bottom right, I see green bar moving with the sound on the "speakers" mixer and "Adobe Flash Player" mixer simultaneously.
Then after a few minutes or after having a few tabs open, all of a sudden the audio stops. Oddly enough, usually the video keeps going even thought the audio has stopped. I verified this wasn't a hardware issue with my headphones by opening the Speaker Icon Mixer window, and acutally was watching it at the moment the sound stopped and saw the green bar disappear exactly when the sound stopped.
If I restart the computer, or firefox only sometimes (mostly need to restart cpu though) then videos will play again with sound. Once the sound stops however, if I open a new youtube video in another window, it will sometimes cause an "An error occured. Please try again later" crash.
I'm at a loss of what to do.
Running latest version of Firefox (26.0) and Adobe Flash (11,9,900,170 installed). Windows 7 64 bit system, Intel Core I7 Processor.
I have tried many things include "reset firefox", clear cache, changing to an earlier version of Flash (11.3). Tried to update sound cards. Even tried to restore computer to an earlier setting ( I only went two days ago, could go farther back I suppose). When I reverted back, the problem went away for a few hours but then came right back.
I scanned pc with ESET online antivirus, no viruses, Malewarebytes Pro, no issues. Cleaned with CC cleaner. Plenty of hard drive space (using an SSD boot drive btw).
I am not very knowledable about plugins or "addons" or extenstions. Nor do I know if it has anything do "Firefox Options -> applications" (gives content type and then option...essentially a bunch of sound file types and then which plugin plays it). I can give my list of all this out if necessary but there are quite a few and I dont know how to copy/paste that info so it would take. Even though its gonna take forever to hand type these guys all out, I will give my list of "plugins" that may be audio related:
QuickTime Plugin 7.7.4 7.7.4.0
RealDownloader Plugin 1.3.3.66
RealNetworks (tm)
RealDownloader Chrome Background Extensions Plug-in (32-bit) 1.3.3.66
RealNetworks (tm)
RealDownloader HTML5VideoShim Plug-in (32-bit)
1.3.3.66 RealNetworks (tm)
RealDownloader PepperFlashVideoShim Plug-in (32-bit) 1.3.3.66
RealPlayer Download Plugin 16.0.3.51
RealPlayer(tm) G2 LiveConnect-Enabled Plug-In (32-Bit) 16.0.3.51
Shockwave Flash 11.9.900.170
Shockwave for Director 12.0.7.148 (for netscape plug-in)
Shockwave for Director 12.0.2.122 (for netscape plug-in)
Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.20913.0
VLC Web Plugin 2.1.0.0
When I open my device manager and look at "Sound video and game controllers" I see 4 options:
1)AMD High Definition Audio Device
2) Bluetooth Audio Device
3) High Definition Audio Device
4) Intel (R) Display Audio
I'm not sure what this means, if I have 4 sound cards or if they are conflicting somehow.
I tried to update drivers on each one. No change. I've tried "restarting firefox with addons disabled" and "check here to see if your addons are up to date" (they were except VLC which I did update before restoring to previous day and it didnt help).
None of the fixes work for me, same issues. Extremely frustrated!! Help?I'm having a similar problem with flash audio. After a few minutes of watching a video or playing a game the audio cuts out but the video keeps working. The audio does not return until I refresh the page. The issue occurs regardless of which browser I'm using (have tired both Firefox and Chrome). Oddly enough, when the audio cuts out from whatever flash application is running, my entire system loses sound until I refresh the webpage or close the browser. For example, I was playing Minecraft with Chrome open in the background and suddenly the sound cut out from both. Once I closed the browser my audio came back. I realized that there was a graphic on the webpage that was flash based which likely triggered the issue.
I do not have any Real plugins.
Incidently I also have Intel (R) Display Audio listed in my device manager
Edit: I forgot to mention, this issue only seems to occure when I watch videos that have been uploaded recently. For some reason the audio does not cut out when I watch a video was uploaded a few months ago. -

Your 12C3006 is either the special build for late-2012 hardware or it is the developer release of 10.8.3 -- I don't have those build numbers handy, so I don't know which it is. If it is a 10.8.3 developer release, all bets are off that Acrobat Reader 11.0.01 will work, and may need recompilation by Adobe.
This version of Reader works reliably in 12C60 (for all other h/w) on my machine. It would seem that if this were a common issue with late 2012 machines, there would have been a storm of reports about it. I haven't noticed any, though I could have missed some.
I think something else has clashed with Reader 11.0.01 on your machine. Post back. -
Quicktime Broadcaster crashes after a few seconds
Hi
This will probably be all too vague for a good answer but thought I'd ask anyway...
Does have experience of Quicktime Broadcaster being unstable? I've tried using it with a USB webcam (logitech pro 9000) device that works fine with other apps on the Mac and an XP laptop but once broadcasting (to Darwin STreaming Server on another machine) QT Broadcaster crashes after a few seconds or minutes, or when you try to use another application. Looks like memory conflicts but it worked for much longer periods of time earlier this year but after the usual upgrades to 10.4.xx (to 10.4.11) it's become unuseable.
I was wondering if anyone knew if upgrading to 10.5.xx would sort the problem out?
Any help or pointers much appreciated.
BillI'm using the latest version of QT Broadcaster (1.5.2) on a MacBook running OS 10.5.6, using an old external iSight camera for the video input, and I can broadcast for hours without problems. I would recommend an update to Leopard. I might also suggest that you perform a hardware test and check your DRAM, just to be on the safe side.

Video freezes after a few seconds
This is actually a continuation of a post I made almost a year and a half ago, trying to get video chat going so my mom can visit with her grandkids. The thread has been archived, so I can't post there but in case it helps here's the address:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1658017&tstart=0
We are both running Tiger 10.4.11 and iChat AV 3.1.9 (v446), although she's on a 1.25 GHz G4 with 1.5 GB of RAM, and I'm on a 1.8 GHz iMac G5 with 1 GB of RAM. We both have the exact same videocamera, Canon Elura 70, attached via Firewire. Both computers recognize the cameras fine, no problems there.
Anyway, my sister and I have tried 1,000 different things but nothing works. I can always see her but not hear her, and the connection is dropped after a few seconds, saying there's insufficient bandwidth to maintain the conference. She can't see me at all, but she can hear me. The chat usually ends with error -20 and sometimes -22. For instance, here's the log from our try today:
*2010-01-29 11:49:30 -0600: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds.*
*Audio channel info: local machine using 10.0.1.3:16386, expecting remote machine to send to 97.83.147.78:56754*
*Video channel info: local machine using 10.0.1.3:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 97.83.147.78:56752*
*Chat ended with error -20*
*Chat ended with error -20*

*Chat ended with error -22*
The thing is, we can video conference successfully (video and audio) with each other from separate rooms if we're both at her house, as well as from separate rooms when we're both at mine. However, when we're each at our own home, it won't work. She's got a download speed of 8.5, and mine is 8.3. Her upload speed is 1.01 and mine is 1.74.
I am connected through a router - SMC Barricade (SMC7004VBR), and a WebStar modem. We've both taken the tape out of our camera, set our bandwidth limit in iChat to none. System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming is at 1.5Mbps. I've learned how to access my router settings but I don't see a DoS or SPI setting. It shows firewall features are disabled.
We've also tried to connect with Skype instead, and I was able to see my sister without it freezing. But she couldn't see me, so it still didn't fully work.
I'm totally at a loss. Any ideas?
Edit: Forgot to say her modem is an Ambit U10C018.
Message was edited by: laburkeWow, thank you so much for the detailed response. I'm actually feeling a little bit of hope that we might get this figured out eventually!
iChat 3.x at both ends.
Can Login and show Buddy Lists
Can Send Visible Invites.
Can Start Video Chat but something says the Bandwidth is then not good enough.
Error Message.
All true, except she has never been able to see me unless we're both in the same my house.
The Intranet /LAN setting in Tiger for iChat 3 also returns Odd figures to
iChat so we have long said set it to 1.5Mbps which your last post says it is.
I take it you must have restarted iChat f not the Mac(s) since you changed
this setting ? (Just covering all bases)
Right.
Have you changed the range the SMC uses to miss the range the modem is using ?
The only change I've made to anything recently is in iChat prefs: Under Accounts - Server settings, I changed the top port to 443 because regular iChat kept disconnecting at odd times and I read somewhere that it might help. But we had this AV problem long before that, and after.
I see the SMC cannot Forward enough ports for iChat but Can do UPnP
(Universal Plug and Play)
Is it set to do UPnP ?
I don't see anything that says UPnP. It says:
GATEWAY
IP Address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Firewall: Disabled
On the Port Forward site there are two WebSTARs listed under
Scientic Atlanta
DO you have either of these ?
No, it is a DPC2100.
I could also do with seeing an old log of an Error 20 log.
They are stored in You Home Folder/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors
Can you post the bits down and only down to the line that starts "Binary Images for iChat"
Pasted at bottom of this post.
Can you tell me if there is a Wifi and Ethernet connection to the Router ? (at > the same time )
My husband's PC is connected to the router via Ethernet. The only other things connected to it are the modem and my Airport Express so I can get online with my Macs. (I used to have the iMac connected by Ethernet before I realized I had an Airport card. Duh.)
Thanks so much for your patience and help!

Video chat breaks down after a few seconds
Hi. I need help.
iChat video chat breaks down after a few seconds. Audio is ok if I begin with it, but doesn't work after a failed video chat. The message that pops up afterwards tells me (in Swedish) that "No data was received during the last 10 seconds. Info about audio channel: local machine uses [IP]:16402 and expects remote machine to send to 83.xxx.xxx.xx:43787." Repeats the same for video channel. What am I to do with the network settings to make this work. I have now realized that this is not a software problem (since upgrading to 10.6/iChat 5.0 didn't solve anything) so it must be the router or my new Time Capsule's settings. But where do I start?
Thank you in advance,
RikardHi and thanks for your help,
I have now had a chance to try the chat again, works fine at first but after say 3-5 minutes the connection breaks in the same fashion as before, unfortunately.
One thing I noticed when flicking on Back to my Mac (just to try it for fun in Snow Leopard - it's never worked for me!) it first turned green, after which it said the familiar: that my router must be capable of UPnP or NAT-PNP. Funny, that was what I thought I had... Could this be connected to the iChat problem do you think?
About the NAT tab: it is really gone when Bridge mode is on, but it reappears when I change from Bridge mode, and when I did it really was on (by default?). I turned it off and changed back to Bridge mode. I have switched off ping as you said. No port scan or DOS/SPI switch anywhere.
I found a iChatConnectionError Log in my Library folder, here it is. Can you read anything from it? Sorry if I quote too much of it.
Thank you ever so much for your help and patience!!!
Cheers,
Rikard

Stor.E access point stops working after a few seconds
Purchased a Stor.E Wireless Adapter and followed instructions but after turning the device on by connecting to USB power using supplies cables, WIFI access point disconnects after 4 or around seconds.
1. i connect the device to usb power
2. Power light blinks green and stays on
3. wireless light becomes green and stay on, turns off after a few seconds
Managed to connect to it using the mobile app a few times, while its on, but since the WIFI point disconnects, cannot use it.
Any thoughts ?1. i connect the device to usb power
The Stor.e Wireless Adapter should be connected to mains power and the other end to the external HDD.
Then you could use the app to access the content wirelessly. -
[MBA 2013]sound crashes and restart after a few seconds
Hi guys,
I bought a Macbook Air in June 2013 and 2-3 months ago, I started having problems with the sound.
Basically, there is always one of those things running : iTunes, VLC or youtube/soundcloud so I always use the sound.
After some time, the sound is strange like it is dying. After a few seconds, it stops working and then I have to wait around 5-10 seconds for it to be automatically restarted. I don't have headphone or anything plugged in and no external sound card.
All my drivers are up to date and I have the last Mac OS X version (10.9.4 I think).
Does anybody know what I should do ? Format it ? Uninstall all the software like Boom, Accubeatmix (maybe they cause the problem but I've used them since I have the MBA).
I am used to using linux commands in a terminal if there is some dirty things to fix that so feel free to share those.
Thanks.I uninstalled Boom and it seems to work now. Strange that it worked without any problem for a long time.
I'll install it again and see what happens.
Thanks. -
Hello there, am new here and very stressed, i have an Imac core i3 which is logging off itself after a few seconds of login, it goes back to the login menu where i put the password. I have tried to repair the os but my pioneer rom is not reading the disk. I press the :c" button on startup but its not picking up the disk in the rom, i have tried to put the disk in an external rom but same answer, am starting to think that my os disk is bad. Please help me.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Video Frozen audio works for a few seconds
Hello all heres my problem.
Video frozen on frame navigated too with the track bar.
Audio works for a few seconds after the track bar is used then stops.
Timer on the side dosen't incriment only changes when the track bar is used.
Every time the video is paused and then played again the audio starts from the
same place and stops in the same place again
All videos are downloaded from itunes.
Works fine in Quicktime.
VGA Card: GTX 480 - drivers up to date
Processor: AMD Phenom II - Quadcore
Itunes Version: 10.7.0.21
The whole thing strikes me as a failure of the video to increment the current frame and not a result of the failure in the video prossessing
the short amount of audio is proably just buffered ahead of the video for syncing reasons.
I have no real idea though but it is my best guess.
Thank you in advance for any assistance rendered,
Nargodian.Hi Thomas,
Ok this does seem to say that the ports are set up and iChat is connecting properly.
iChat also thinks there is enough bandwidth at the start and makes the connection.
Is this to a PC ? Video freezes have been seen here when connecting to faster PCs.
What you describe though sounds more like a PC that has not "Tuned" their cammera or Mic to the AIM Application.

Sound from videos stops after a few seconds on Quicktime
I bought a new Samsung camera and took some videos at a concert. When I put the videos on my MacBook Pro and try to play them on Quicktime, the sound stops after a few seconds. When I try to play them on iMovie or use them in iMovie, not only is there no sound after a few seconds but the sound that is there is sped up.
The audio works fine in VLC but doesn't seem to work with anything else on my Mac. I've tried Perian, Flip4Mac...
Codecs: H.264, AAC
Help?I've seen this issue in the past.
