External audio to Canon 60 D using Recorder Sony PCM-M10

I am wanting to use a Sony Portable Audio Recorder PCM-M10  to send audio to the mike input of the Canon 60D SLR while doing video.  I want to split the signal for use earphones to monitor the sound.  Is there a recommented cable to do this patch from the audio out port on the recorder to the earphones and the mike in port on the 60D?  The Sony recorder has the option of sending EITHER an earphone signal or line out signal out from it's port.  Any patch cable recommenations, etc.?

I'm glad you managed to resolve the issue yourself. If you have any further issues please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • Lenovo g580 do I need to buy an external audio interface to record live instruments and voice ?

Hello,  If anyone could help me please ?, I am wondering do I need to buy an external audio interface to record live instruments and voice onto my lenovo g580.?
My friends have said that good laptops have audio interface's built in... but I cannot see how this could work as I am trying to build a home recording studio. Do they mean that I just need to have a mixing desk ? As the audio interface is already in my laptop, ?
Another question I have is... I have bought a microphone to record with a studio mic. But when I plug it into the headphone socket, it works as a speaker and not as a microphone. Please can you tell me how do I make it work as a microphone, and record on ableton. Thanks. I live alone with two cats so I'd really appreciate some help !
Thank you very much, best wishes.

I'm preparing to expand my studio from a 1 man songwriting system,

simultaneous tracks recording. Am I dreaming?
Nope. I've been recording live bands with up to 56 channels at 24 bit 48kHz for three years now.
    1) Does my computer have enough native power to handle such a task?
Yes. The actual recording uses the hard drive buss, so you need to make sure you have fast drives and a dedicated FW or SATA buss for them.
    2) Is there an audio interface device that could help shoulder some of
    the cpu load?
No. CPU is used only for routing audio, effects, etc. An audio interface is used to route the audio in and out of the computer, and as such does not process effects at all.
    3) is it possible to use my multiple, fast internal drives to help?
Yes. Although with Logic Pro you can use only one drive at a time for recording. HOWEVER, I have been able to use SATA drives to record up to 56 tracks AT ONCE. So there is plenty of power there.
    4) If not 16, what's the highest realistic track count I can hope for?
Again, I have done 56 tracks. 16 is a walk in the park in comparison to 56. I would recommend you invest in Apogee AD16X and DA16X, since in one interface you get ALL 16 inputs, and the other gives you the 16 outputs to go to, say, a mixer. And the sound quality is very very very good.
    thanks in advance
    You're welcome.

Thanks, that's what I had thought. Our domain.com zone is sourced internally and replicated to our advertisers for external users, so there's no way to change the result for internal vs external users.
This is a rudimentary question that I should already know but I sort of inherited this after it was built: Can I have users sign in with their email address ([email protected]) but under the hood, their SIP address is [email protected]? This would let users
sign in with an address they expect, but it would take advantage of the the local lyncdiscoverinternal record.

  • Using external audio interface in iMovie

    Hi!
I´m using an external audio device that´s called RME Babyface. I can´t record the audio from the microphone in iMovie. It works great recording audio in in Logic and Garageband, but when I change from "internal microphone" (which works) to "RME babayface", iMovie doesnt receive any audio.(But I can listen to the audio already present in the clips using my headphones hooked up to the RME babyface)
    Anyone any clue?
    Best regards Starre

I have the same issue with Babyface! Babyface works fine with other programs and even when I change it to the system input for the whole Mac, but for iMovie, there is no signal. And there is no "system settings" option either, like there would be in e.g. GarageBand. Any ideas?

  • Recording an external audio device on G505s

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect an external audio device and record it on my g505s. Please help. Which input do I use on my laptop.
    Thanks.

Switch the monitor on in the track info!
But either way, if you have created a real instrument track and the meter is showing a signal, you should record something - even if you can't hear it while you're recording!

  • Equium L20-197: No line-in jack - How to record from an external audio source

    Hi,
I'm generally very pleased with my Equium L20, but am now finding a few annoyances that I guess are cost-cutting issues. For instance, there's no onboard mic, so need to buy one for Voip purposes. And I would like to use this laptop to record from an external audio source, but now discover that there is no line-in jack, and it seems the microphone jack is mono only, even if it was possible to configure the audo card to use this for line-in source.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas for a workaround perhaps using a USB port.
    TIA
    Keith

    Hi R2D2,
Thanks for your quick reply - it set me on the right track and I've been googling for similar solutions available in the UK. I've since found this product - http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/9326 and redhawk has pointed me at something by Creative Labs which I'll try and track down.

  • External Audio being recorded EARLY? (makes no sense)

When recording an external drum machine that is midi sync'd to Logic 8's clock, the audio that gets recorded to disk ends up hitting 'early'... In other words, the attack portion of the Kick drum is always recorded AHEAD of the 'down beat' marker in Logic.
This makes it tedious to later go and bounce specific loop regions for exporting into other applications, such as Ableton Live.
WHat I can't figure out is how to universally correct this. I want ALL my external audio tracks to come in at the same time, but not so early. I don't understand why or how audio would 'arrive' at the hard disk AHEAD of the clock that Logic is supposedly spitting out to the same beat as its audio region markers...that shouldn't even be possible! (If anything, the audio should be coming in 'late' due to midi latency).
Can anyone help? Both my studio partner and I are flustered. This doesn't happen when recording directly into Ableton live for example...

I have had this exact problem a number of times, and it renders Logic somewhat useless to me as I record drum parts through external midi devices, and I need them to be recorded in sync.
I had a MOTU 828MkII, and an AMT8, so I tried other midi and audio interfaces to figure out what the problem was. I could not believe that the delay was a negative delay - and I eventually set the interface delay to a really high number to try and see what that did. Well that did provide a really high delay, and then when I set it back to zero - no problem! It was very strange, as if the parameter was stuck, but showing zero previously. I know when I first installed Logic, it set a delay into this automatically, and I think that's what the problem was. In any case, changing the delay up and down, and then back to zero seemed to fix my problem.
Then eventually months later, the problem came up again. However now I was using an NRV10 Firewire mixer as my audio interface, and a little MOTU Fastlane USB for midi. It's clearly not the interfaces I'm using, it's Logic.
I don't use the plug-in delay compensation, because as I understand it, you will have midi sent out early if you do, and I already have that problem. However it's as if you always have some kind of strange compensation going on. At one point I set the interface buffer to 1024, and guess what, the audio was early by 1024 samples. Then I set it to 512, and then it was 512 early. After messing around with these parameters trying to get it right, it then became more inconsistent, and I could not predict the results. . For example adding 50ms of delay made the midi signal occur earlier! Then I added another 10ms to that, and it was later - go figure.
In any case, this is a serious problem. I'm just trying to record external devices in sync, and it won't do it. Makes all the great features of Logic totally useless.
I have not seen any clear solution posted anywhere, I'm not sure why some people have the problem and other do not. It's not just a bad firewire driver.

  • Volume control when using front row with an external audio interface

    Hi,
I got my macbook last week, and so far, I love it. But I've got a small gripe with FrontRow - in my room at college, I have my macbook plugged into an oldish Tascam US-122, which I use a lot for recording. The Tascam is connected to my expensive active speakers, and ideally, I'd like to be able to play back via FrontRow to the Tascam, to the speakers, while retaining remote control. This isn't a problem for selecting Photos/Videos/Music etc, but the problem arises when I want to change the volume - the remote simply controls the volume of the macbook's internal speakers, not affecting the output of the Tascam.
I know I could just connect the speakers via the headphone output, but that would mean more cables, and more chopping and changing system preferences to suit whether I'm making music or just listening.
*So - is there any way at all that I can make the macbook's global volume control (using the volume hotkeys and remote) affect the signal its sending (via USB) to the Tascam?* I know its not impossible, because until recently I used it with a PC running XP, and that allowed me to use the volume control app to boost or cut the Tascam's volume. Perhaps its an issue with the Tascam's OSX driver?
The Tascam has its own physical volume knob, so its not like I'm stuck listening at deafening or very quiet volumes, and I know this sounds like an issue with my laziness rather than FrontRow or the macbook, but surely it defeats the point of FrontRow if I have to walk across the room every time I want to turn the tunes up or down?!
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Thom Bishop

hmm, yeah, thats kinda what i suspected - i reckon this is to do with the way the frontrow interface is set up, but theres no way (as far as i can see) to make everything pass through the main system stereo channel BEFORE going to an external audio interface... which is COMPLETELY bizarre, since system sounds/alerts get passed to the audio interface fine.
and no, i very much doubt whether ANY external audio interface would respond to apple remote (gap in the market, perhaps?).
this would be a fairly simple problem to solve, if only apple were aware of it... of course, i COULD try getting to grips with audio units and seeing if i couldnt fix it myself, but ive frankly not got the time to learn how that works! how can i make apple aware of this issue?? are they already aware??

  • Audio Stream Recorder - Error: Audio device is already being used by another prog

I realized that Audio Stream Recorder is does not "work" through server list feature. So I am simply trying to use the manual method of adding URL's to the interface. However regardless of the type of stream, shoutcast, windows media or real audio, I receive the error "audio device is already being used by another program". Does anyone know how to fix this? I have closed my audio application etc to no avail. <RANT WARNING> I was very excited about using this application when I read about it. However an application that provides none of the stated features is not an application, its false advertising, since it clearly states on the box, help files and website this products "features". Anyway, it'ss very disappointing. Also, does anyone know what the supported steaming formats are, the help file say the application requires RealONE and Windows Media Player but does not mention audio stream formats? Thanks you in advance for any help.

I have the same issue. I updated to the latest software, to no avail. My first suspicion is that some Microsoft patch caused this, but I cannot verify this.
Apparently no one at Creative is very interested in this issue.

  • Record Video+external audio+system audio

I need to record a movie with:
    - Input from my firewire Camcorder
    - Input from my external audio interface
    - Input from GarageBand output
Till now I just find two ways of doing it:
    1.
    - Record audio in GarageBand and video in Quicktime at the same time
    - Sync both recordings (with Quicktime or ImovieHD)
    2.
    - Open a Quicktime movie recording
    - Start a screen video capture applicaton (with option to record system audio) and select the quicktime window to record
    - Start recording
    - Go to GarageBand and start playing
    - Switch to Quicktime screen and realy start my recording
    - Trim the unwanted initial video recorded.
Unfortnately both workflows are just tricks to do something that is no directly achieved by the applications. In the end it takes double the time to record a movie than it should take.
Is there any way to record with Quicktime a movie and at the same time both internal and external audio?
Is there another application to do it? I have search many applications and it seems that only screencapture apps can record internal sound. I have heard of wirecast but is too expensive (400$).

Although the application seems very interesting how can it help me since it does not record video?
I have no problem in recording audio in GarageBand, the problem is recording in sync audio and video so I don't have later to mix and sync both flows.
Maybe my question is not clear.

  • My external audio recording device only records to the right channel.  How do I send the sound in the right channel thru the left one in Final Cut to get a full stereo sound?

My external audio recording device only records to the right channel.  How do I duplicate the sound in the right channel and run it to the left one in Final Cut to get full stereo sound?
I've already copied and pasted the right channel (A2) onto the left channel (A1) but that just doubled the volume on the right channel.
For instance, when I listen to my audio with headphones it only comes thru the right one.  How do I make it so that it comes thru both headphones?

Stereo is something else. It is a sound field where the individual elements are located through varying the amount of electrical energy for each element delivered to each channel.
What you have is a mono source that should be panned to center. This will equally divide the signal so it will be delivered out both the L & R channels.
Load the original clip to the VIEWER and set the PAN to 0 (zero). Delete any duplicates. They are unnecessary.

  • Using External Audio Device for FCP X

    Hi,
How do I use my external audio hardware(RTA, MOTU, D01 Jünger) via firewire with FCP X?
It plays through Mac out only.
    Cheers,

Hmmm... there is driver for all MOTU devices available. I checked on the motunation board and didn't find complaints about Lion and interfaces either. Sorry you're having this problem. This is copied from the motu site about the Lion driver:
MOTU Universal Audio Installer for Mac OS X
This package (version 1.6.50450) installs updated Mac OS X drivers and software for all MOTU FireWire, USB, Hybrid, and PCI-424 audio interfaces. The CueMix FX app now supports PCI-424 systems and replaces the legacy CueMix Console app. Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or later is recommended. Supports Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Supported MOTU products include:
    2408mk3
    24I/O
    4pre
    828mk3 (Hybrid and FireWire)

    8pre
    Audio Express
    HD192
    MicroBook
    UltraLite-mk3 (Hybrid and FireWire)
    Traveler-mk3
     Supported legacy MOTU products include the 1224, 1296, 2408, 2408mkII, 24i, 308, 828, 828mkII, 896, 896HD, Traveler, and the UltraLite.

  • Best way to sync 3 angles without external audio?

Just installed FCP X today — coming off of FCE 4, so I have lots of learning to do, but am liking it so far.
My first editing project is a concert of Bach's music I shot on Canon dSLRs a couple months ago. We had three angles, and while I will eventually be getting a copy of the professionally-recorded sound from the concert, I only have my on-camera audio to work with right now.
So my question is, how does one go about using the syncronization feature to sync three camera angles, without having external audio?
Each camera has several clips for the whole concert (because of record time limits). I was able to sync up the first clip from each angle by extracting the audio from one angle, importing it as a file, and using it as the sync reference, but there doesn't seem to be a way to add and build onto the syncronized clip (i.e., adding another extracted audio file and syncing it with previously synced footage). Perhaps I'm missing something?
Thanks in advance for any help!

And, yes, I did search the forum before hand.
Oh, and another thing I should mention:
My DSLR (canon 5d Mark 2) Actually records the DATE and the TIME of when I hit the record button. This is located under the "Date Created" meta data which is viewable in the windows media browser(explorer). AND, it also says "Date Modified" to indicate when I stopped recording. This is very useful,
but is this a good way  I can multiple cams synced in time?
    Thanks!
