External Bluetooth keyboard compatability

I am new to using the iPod touch. I'm using an iPod touch 4th Generation. I have an external bluetooth keyboeard from a preveious hand-held computer. The brand name of the computer and the external keyboard it used is "PalmOne". The version, and Bluetooth information from my iPod touch is as follows:
Version: 4.2.1 (8C148)
Is the version above my OS?
Bluetooth: 5C:59:48:8A:33:1C
When I open up my foldable bluetooth keyboard and turn on the bluetooth feature on my iPod touch, the screen shows that Bluetooth is on. Under the main Bluetooth heading there is a subheading that reads; "Devices". Under that, there is a white area with the word; "Searching..." with a small grey circle spinning next to it. Under that, in small pritn the words "Now discoverable" are shown.
The keyboard has a button taht looks like a Microsoft Windows logo could this be why it isn't being detected? There are also other keys on there such as a Fn (function), Home which shows a house logo, a key that has a logo of a menu, and many other strange looking symbols on some of the keys. Do you think this will be compatable to the ipod touch if I try syncing the software for the keyboard to the ipod touch?

Thanks for the info. Although my question wasn't answered here I'm stillmarking it as answered because you gave some helpful information. However, I spoke with an Apple iPod sales person who has an iPod touch & uses external Bluetooth keyboards and she told me that mine would not be compatible.
Thanks anyway.

I purchased a stream 7 a couple of months ago.  connected an external bluetooth keyboard to it.  now the external keyboard will not connect.  When I search for bluetooth devices, nothing shows up.  sometimes the stream 7 will pick up my fire on the other side of the house but not the keyboard that is right beside it.  Is there a setting that I have wrong?

Hello kutou, There could be one of several things wrong for the bluetooth keyboard to not be recognized. It could be the bluetooth drivers need reinstalling or there could be something wrong with the keyboard itself. You did check for bad batteries I assume? Here is a link to some troubleshooting info from Microsoft that you could try first.Troubleshoot problems with Bluetooth enabled devices If that does not work, here is a video on how to uninstall and reinstall the bluetooth driver.▶ How To Fix Bluetooth Not Working In Windows 8.1 - YouTube Here is the download for the bluetooth driver if needed. Its the same for the Stream 7 5701 and 5709 models.http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp70001-70500/sp70340.exe Let me know how it turns out.

  • Spell check with iPad 2 w/ Bluetooth keyboard?

When using my iPad 2w/ my Apple Bluetooth keyboard there is no spell checker.
What's the best way, or application to get one to work w/ the external keyboard?

just paired an apple external bluetooth keyboard in an apple store, and spell check does NOT woth when a bluetooth keyboard is used. there do not appear to be any settings for this.

  • Bluetooth keyboard capitalization

When using an external Bluetooth keyboard, the first letter of a new sentence or paragraph does not capitalize as it does with the onscreen keyboard. Any fix for this or is it an operating system oversight?

The apple bluetooth keyboard was available before the ipad was.
So if you connected this apple bluetooth key board to a computer, like an iMac (which is far more advanced than any mobile device) would you expect the keyboard to function in the same manner as on an ipad? Have you ever had this feature? On any device?
If the inability to start each sentence with an uppercase letter automatically,  is hindering your productivity, then you have been unproductive long before you started using an ipad.
Maybe you should consider using the onscreen keyboard to be more productive.
I'll mention again that there's a place to leave product feedback.

  • External Apple Keyboards crash the MBP since Leopard -cause found

Since I upgraded the MBP to Leopard, I have had a problem where the External Apple USB key-
board crashes the machine on plug-in. The same thing with the External Bluetooth Keyboard.
The gray curtain would fall, every time, requiring a restart.
While typing up a message to post here, I wanted to accumulate all the details on resident
software, to tell you the full story; turns out I had an old "DoubleCommand" program loaded
at startup, even if I had stopped using it a long time ago.
DoubleCommand is a keyboard re-mapper that I found very useful at some point.
Once this was removed, the problem went away. So instead of another nag, I have written
this little note to register the problem gone.
It may be possible to find a more recent version of DoubleCommand, one that collaborates
with Leopard. I don't use it anymore, so I didn't look for a newer one.

  • TS3048 My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse compatability

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the older bluetooth keyboard and mouse will work with a 20" imac duo core? The numbers are as follows: Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (A1016) & Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse (A1197). The imac number I believe is: MA200LL.
I haven't received it yet though ebay but would like to do the bluetooth thing to keep my desk as clutter free as possible.
    Thanks!

Taking this a step further; I bought the aluminum wireless KB with my 20" 2 GHz Core 2 Duo. I don't like the layout, so I bought the older style wireless KB (A1016). However, I can't get the Mac to recognize the new KB. I've even gone through the Bluetooth setup assistant to no avail: it just can't find it. I tried having the BT Setup Assistant look for ANY BT device and it sees the KB that way. I can get through to the point of entering the passkey on the computer but I seem to get hung up when trying to enter the same corresponding code on the new KB.
Any ideas? Do I need to disable the wireless aluminum KB?

  • MacBook Air 11-inch, Mid 2013 won't boot with external USB keyboard

    Hello,
    Just bought a MacBook Air 11-inch, Mid 2013 (8GB, i7, 512GB SSD) today.
All available software updates are installed (OS X 10.8.4 (12E3067)).
Also have a Macbook Pro Retina.
If I connect a external USB keyboard (Kinesis Advantage Pro USB) to the Air then it don't boots.
If the keyboard is connected directly to the Air USB port then it don't shows the Apple logo on grey background after power on, just give a endless loop of the turning on sound.
If the keyboard is connected to the Thunderbolt display then same empthy grey screen after power on and no sound at all.
The same keyboard and Thunderbolt display work well with my Macbook Pro Retina and a Macbook Air 2011.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Karsten

I like it very much. I use it on my iPad (and occasionally my iPhone). I'm kind of a keyboard snob actually. I tried the Apple wireless keyboard first. Apple keyboards have a short throw that hurts the tips of my fingers. They're very pretty but the on button turns on when I don't want it to and my iPad wakes up in my bag. Strike 1.
I went to a little keyboard called the Joy and it had a positive switch so I didn't have the wakeup problem. It worked well though after several months I wore it out and had to replace it with another one. I also didn't like how flat it sat and used rubber bumpers on the back. It too had a short throw that hurt my finger tips after a while but it was better than the Apple.
Then I discovered the Logitech bluetooth keyboard, the K811. This is a great keyboard. It switches between multiple targets with one press, it has a positive on/off switch, the keys light up, it's rechargeable and lasts a long time, and the slight cushioning on the keys keeps my fingers from hurting. I put the rubber bumpers on it though like the Joy because I like the keyboard to sit up a little. It's a tiny bit bigger than the other keyboards but I like it a lot, better than my MBA keyboard and better than my iMac wired keyboard. I'm trying out an after market keyboard on the iMac now but I'm thinking about switching to one of these for the iMac.

  • Why can't I use the spacebar on my Apple bluetooth keyboard to wake my iMac?

I'm pretty sure I was able to use Apple's Bluetooth keyboard to wake the machine before. The only solution I have so far is use the power button on the back of the iMac to wake it and worse, not letting the hard drive sleep in the first place. Neither of these options suit me very well.  Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks!!

    Hi iNstaPro,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iMac isn't waking from sleep reliably, I'd try these steps from our display troubleshooting article:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • How do I change an apple bluetooth keyboard to a different computer?

I use an Imac and a Macbook Pro, and recently my laptop broke. To help with the problem, Apple unplugged my trackpad and internal keyboard. I have a bluetooth mouse I can use instead of my trackpad but I don't have another keyboard. I decided to use my blutooth keyboard that came with my Imac, I just have to move my files to an external hard drive.
Here's my question: How do I make it so my bluetooth keyboard (which currently is being used for my Imac) will disconnect from my Imac and connect to my Macbook? I'm sorry if it's kind of a stupid question but I couldn't find any pages on it so I have to ask here. I just have to do it for a bit until I can get my mac properly fixed.
    Thanks,
    Dan

You must go to System Prefernces, Bluetooth in the iMac and unpairing the keyboard.  Then go to the same on the MacBook Pro and pair the keyboard.  You must do that back and forth every time you want to switch computer.

  • My bluetooth keyboard (Macnus 3.0) is recognised by my iMac but will  not pair?  I have paired it with my iPad using code 8310 but it still will not pair with my iMac.  Can someone help please?

My bluetooth keyboard (Macnus brand - bought recently in Thailand)(similar to Mac small keyboard) will pair with my iPad using code 8310,and is recognized by my iMac but will not pair?
There are very scant instructions with the keyboard and no mention of any code (the code was prompted by my iPad).
I have followed the instructions but it still will not pair with my iMac!
    Can anyone help please?
My iMac is 20 inch  Mid 2007 OSX10.9.1 4GB RAM

Hi All, thank you for you suggestions.  I have been unable to find any website for the maker, but have looked at several Thai/cambodian sites incl <http://www.buycoms.com/Article/8435/index.asp>  which mentions the keyboard being suitable for tablet or windows.  No mention of iMac!  although the box is branded to indicate Mac compatable.
I'm thinking that maybe it just will not pair with an iMac.
Ill keep looking for the maker website, which might come on later in the future? maybe?
    thanks again.

  • My Apple bluetooth keyboard no longer connects to my Macbook Pro

My wireless keyboard no longer connects to my Macbook using Bluetooth. I've put in fresh batteries, checked the on/off switch, and attempted to connected using system dialog. Also tried turning Bluetooth off and on. Nothing works. Wireless trackpad works fine.

You may need a wired keyboard to carry out some of these steps. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.
    Step 1
Follow the instructions in these support articles:
How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
    Step 2
The keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Step 3
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    See these support articles:
Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
Bluetooth: Unreliable wireless performance may occur when USB 3.0 external devices are close
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
