External Buffalo Inc. Hardrive
I just found a Buffalo brand HD and was wondering if anyone has worked with this brand.
The power adapter is missing and I have to get one of those (it needs a 12V/5V adapter and has a weird connection. It almost looks like an S-Video connection).
The HD itself connects by USB. I know that this model (HD-HB160U2-WR) has been discontinued but I don't think it is too old.
The most important thing, of course, is if this HD is even compatible with my MacBook, but I don't think I'll know until I can actually give it power.
PLEASE give me any advice you can!! I don't have and urgent use for this HD right now, but I definitely wouldn't say no to 160 GB of space!!
Thanks!!

Hi Moonchild23,
You can visit their sites or eBay to find similar power adapter.
Lacie have similar power connection port, but I never try and not recommend you to try it, unless you have nothing to lose.
Most external (if not all) are compatible with macbook, as long as they use USB or Firewire (400).
The only problem might be the HD format that might pre-formatted to NTFS that act read only on mac OS.
But as soon as you re-format it to FAT32 or HFS, you can use it with your macbook.
Good Luck.

How to attach an external Western Digital Hardrive
I have a G4 12 inch power book. I have about 554 mb of memory left on my hardrive. I just purchased an external western digital hardrive. I want to transfer some of the things from my mac hardrive to the external hardrive. The problem is there are no directions that come with the western digital hardrive to do this. I put in the disk that came with the hardrive but nothing remotely happens, just you're now able to see two files on the disk. When I plug in the hardrive, the mac recognizes it in the disk utility but I don't know what to do from there. Some of the options that I am getting are: partion hardrive, raid, etc. I know this is something simple and I am just not understanding this but I think I must mount the external drive to the computer? please help.....

External Buffalo HD won't mount after update to 10.5.7.
As the title suggests, I have a 250 GB Buffalo external HDD connected to my mac mini (2009). I did the update via software update & after the restart the external HDD won't mount. Any ideas anyone please?
Not exactly a Buffalo drive, but my problem seems very similar, and I'm convinced it occurred after a recent operating system update.
I have a Tascam DP-01FX that I use infrequently and that functions perfectly. I have used the USB connection to transfer files back and forth to three computers; and old G4 Mac (now out of commission), a new iMac (running OS 10.5.8, and an old Dell Inspiron 5000 (running Windows XP). The last time I tried to connect it to the iMac, the System profiler indicated it was connected, but it never mounted on the desktop, and it could not be made to appear in Disk Utility. I tried all varieties of connection; through a high speed hub, directly to the computer (with ALL other USB devices disconnected including the keyboard), etc. I zapped the computer's PRAM, verified and repaired permissions on the system drive. I even unplugged the computer and everything connected to it for half an hour, then reconnected and zapped the PRAM again. Nothing I've done will make the Tascam device mount on the desktop. However, it mounted with no problems on the old Dell Inspiron 5000. The kicker is that I've successfully and easily used the DP-01FX on the iMac on a previous occasion. All this leads me to believe there is something in an Apple software update that is causing this problem. All other USB devices work flawlessly, including an external hard drive that I only use for special projects about once a week. It mounts and un-mounts without any problems. This has got to be an Apple "oops." -
So I need to back up my time machine and I have 1T external but I partioned it a long time ago into 2 section. 1 for time machine the other
for my art work. I need more space for time machine so how can I make my external just 1 hardrive again aka just 1T. Instead
right now it is 1- 500GB MS-DOS FAT and 1 - 500 GB MAc OS Extended (journaled). Thanks agian.
Time machine is saying it need 800GBS to back up? I tried to erase the partion in Ultity but it is still there?Enlarging a partition

Pb with X200, NEC based USB 3.0 PCI card and external USB 3.0 HD
Hello, I ordered a USB 3.0 Express Card based on the NEC chipset. I am using a Lenovo X200 under XP SP3 and I have an external Buffalo Ministation USB3.0 HD. No problem to install the Express Card driver, the card is recognized but the HD won't mount. I have the USB connection beep and in the next 10 sec the USD disconnection beep. This is not a low power issue, I connected to the Express Card a power supply and have the same issue. In addition, this config, Express Card and Ministation Buffalo just work fine on a T60 under Windows 7. Any idea? Many thanks ! Tom

I would like to add IO to my Mac Pro Details of it are below
I have looked at several options and would be happy to go with either eSata or USB 3.0. I have heard some bad reviews about the USB 3.0 PCI offerings out there though.
On the one hand, I have an unused eSata enclosure so I would not have to buy one, on the other hand a few USB 3.0 ports on the machine would allow grerater expandability with a USB 3.0 hub hung off the back. ( can you get eSata hubs? never thought of that until just now)
The nearest thing to an eSATA hub is a 'SATA port-multiplier'. This allows connecting up to 4 SATA drives to a single SATA port.
Note: Not all SATA or eSATA cards support 'port-multiplier' functionality. The CalDigit card says it does support port-multiplier enclosures, what this means is that a single eSATA cable can be connected to an external box containing multiple SATA drives and see and use them all. -
HP Z620 does not boot when external Seagate hard drive is connected
I'm troubleshooting an HP Z620 workstation with 32GB RAM, one 500GB HDD + one 1TB HDD running Win 7 Enterprise 64 bits, this user has 2 external USB 3.0 HDDs, one Buffalo 2TB + one Seagate Desktop Backup Plus 4TB; the problem comes when the external Seagate HDD is connected and the PC is turned one, for some reason the PC does not boots, it shows a message that states "Non-disk or no boot disk error" and sometimes it tries to boot, but then goes thru the "Windows repair option" or "Start Windows normally" routine, none of these results on starting the PC.
The only way this PC starts and works properly is when PC is started with the external Seagate HDD disconnected and then connected once the Win 7 is up and running; the problem described above does not happens with the external Buffalo 2TB HDD and the Seagate HDD have been tested throughly and no errors or problems have been detected on it.
I'll really appreciate your attention to this, as well as your prompt response.

Buffalo Linkstation works with all PC's but not iMac - With Airport Extreme
Hi. I hope someone can help. Been at this for days, even AppleCare can't help....
We have a Buffalo linkstation hooked to a new Airport Extreme.
All PCs can see it and view documents, iTunes, etc. My iMac cannot. Actually, I think it sees it but it's a mere file on my desktop. When I click on it, it pulls up a Finder type window, but this Buffalo icon (like network icon) can't be mounted in my normal finder main section. I can't figure out how to do that.
When I open Finder, I don't see the buffalo at all but have to go thru many libraries to find it. When I click on it ("connect") to it, It says "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to: I click on the name, but it says "the alias blablabla could not be opened because the original item cannot be found. It gives the option to fix alias so I hit that and it puts me in my "documents" area and won't let me go anywhere else.
OMG... Can someone tell me how to get this thing working? I can see the files but they are so buried. I'd like to take this Buffalo which seems to be on my desktop and mount it? to the right area of my Finder.
All I want to do is see the darned iTunes on the buffalo wirelessly via airport extreme. LOL All other computers (PC's) did this instantly. Help?Yes, I can see everything I need to see (external HD)....
I even dragged the darned thing into the finder...
Now my upper left box of the finder says:
Network
Share (that's my external buffalo HD)
Windox XP
iMac
The problem with the above is that "Share" is not mounted. It has the eject button next to it. I think (maybe) I could get this functioning if I could mount this darned thing but I can't for the life of me get it to do that. Any ideas?
EDIT: I'm not sure how to use directory access utility. Do I need to?

T520 - Supports 2 external displays?
I was wondering if could inform me if my Lenovo T520 (Intel HD 3000 GPU) laptop supports 2 external displays (inc. internal laptop display).
So the setup would be 2 LCD monitors, one using VGA (currently attached) and the second one will be connected via displayport to DVI convertor. Is this setup up feasible or do I need to turn off the laptop display to make it work?
Any advice would be much appreciated! The T520 doesn't have a USB 3.0 port, so just get a USB 2.0 version. Alternatively you can split the displayport signal between 2 external LCD to make them as one LCD.
For example if you have 2 x 24 inch LCD 1920x1080, you can get a displayport splitter that treats these 2 LCD as one LCD of 3840 x 1080. The advantage of this is doesn't use much CPU performance like the USB displaylink technology.

Saving source footages and FCP project in EXTERNAL Hard drive
I have ran out of space in my Inbuilt harddrive of the computer....
Now i have got a new project to be done and i have external 1 TB hardrive.....
So my question:
1.) Can i save the source footages in External HD?
2.) Can i save the project in External HD and edit it and do everything as in External HD?
I have never done such thing so help would be acknowleged.
Thanks and if i am missing any information then do let me know!Hi
YES - BUT
• External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted (all mine are journaled)
• Should be FireWire or Thunderbolt - as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up.
• I do - create a folder on My external HD named as Movie project + date
- then Start FinalCut
- AND set up ALL Scratch disks to this folder
- then SAVE projects - and direct this to same folder
- then I also make a folder in this project folder (on ext.HD) named material - and in this I collect all photos, audio-files (all converted to .aiff - NO .mp3 or other) AND all texts in a text document to copy from e.g. Title, contributors etc. SO also a document describing how the project is to be done - sort of synopsis.
PROBLEM
When changing Scratch-disks in FinalCut Express or Pro (FCP-X i don't know) one must when starting up next time - FIRST CONTROL - where they are set - as they do not orient after project but after last settings. All material and Captures etc - can be stored in a very wrong location IF one doesn't keep this in mind !
MY OWN experience - very tedious to clean up - BUT at least FinalCut Pro can help in collecting in all parts if they go astray.

Under info in finder it says:

I looked in diskUtility and yes this is somthing I must do to re-formatt.
How do I do this please.

or on the mac internal drive even when you drag / import clips to desktop on the G4 osx mac
If I reformatt the external drive would this solve the problem?

NETServer (Brother) seems to crash constantly
Hi
since the install of OS X 10.8 I get some weird crash info about the NETServer (Brother). It seems to crash but the service of my two printers, namely HL-1250 and MFC-7820N works fine. Since the appears on some days twice or three times, and I never restart the service it seems odd.
I wrote to Brother, but they tell me that it is a proplem with OS X and not their software and I should post it here (which I do now). As far as I can see in the error report, it is always the same message and error.
I provide the last saved message here for you:

Since the message pops up from virtually nowhere, I never used the software when the message appears (sometimes I'm in Pages or Word), I question myself what causes it? Any ideas?Hello,
I have same problem on 10.6.8 since 3 weeks, before everything it's ok and I have my brother printer since 2 years.
I have another mac on 10.8.4 and all it's work.
On thread below they said that it is conexion problem with printer, and I search a mistake or unstability on my network.

Good luck -
Using
Mac (21.5-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9)
My iMac suddenly restarted on its own, saying there was a problem. When I saw that, I noticed iPhoto was "finding discrepancies and is now rebuilding my entire library." Am currently repairing permissions and running Intego virus scan. Ideas? Thanks...RalphThanks Kirk and Thomas....I did appear to have a kernel panic. The contents of the panic are shown below. I used disc permissions repair on the internal and external drives and all seem to be ok. iPhoto is completely rebuilt and all is well there. I use Time Machine and a dedicated hard drive for its contents. Been using Macs since my original computer....a brand new Mac II.....this is a new experience. Here's the info displayed on the panic. Thanks a bunch...Ralph

Time Machine Error: backup to large requires 523 MB but only 8.4 GB avail
For about a week now I am getting the following backup error:
This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 523.3 MB but only 8.4 GB are available.
Then the latest backup fails.
This makes no sense to me. My backup volume is 150GB external USB Buffalo drive. It has been working great for months now. Based on some information I read in another post I excluded my application folder that added another 15.2 GB not needed to backup. I also tried unchecking the box that warns when old backups are deleted.
I have read through many post but have not found an answer yet.
Any suggestions?

<Edited by Moderator>Thanks for the quick and accurate advice. Since I had never done this before it took me a while to figure out how to partition the drive as GUID. I did not understand I had to create a partition and click on options.
On Apple's Support website for OS X 10.5 Time Machine under Mac 101: Using Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (see below) it should have information about how important it is to partition a new drive as GUID then how to do it. It just says I won't have to worry about backing up again. For me I had to erase all my backups - this time nothing was really important that was not on my main drive. It would have been good if I could have set it up correctly the first time.
Getting started
The first time you attach an external drive to your Mac OS X Leopard-based Mac, Time Machine asks if you’d like to use that drive as your backup location (you may need to erase the drive first). Choose yes and Time Machine takes care of everything else, automatically, in the background. _You won't have to worry about backing up again._
