External control of Logic Pro

I'm branching out. Is it possible to control start / stop externally with my Midi keyboard, i.e....do I use program change, control nos, etc. I want to be able to set up a song...then once I punch a foot controller or press a certain key, the program starts. Sorry if this sounds stupid. I'm going live for the first time.

You understand that MIDI is not audio (sound), it's only a simple set of instructions that describe the MIDI performance. It (MIDI) can be routed to and sound producing keyboard, module , virtual instrument... etc.
In any case, you have it routed back to your keyboard so natually tha sound will come out of the keyboard, it's the keyboard that is producing the audio. If you want the sound to come out of the computer the audio outs of the keyboard have to be routed to the audio inputs of your sound card, an audio track selected, software monitoring enabled and the track record enabled. (that's one way)
You could also create an instrument track, load a virtual instrument and slide the MIDI performance over to the virtual instrument track.

  • How to set up external instrument in logic pro x

how do you set up external instrument in logic pro x without triggering the instrument twice - by the external instrument GM device to control playback and playing the instrument itself?  thank you

I use the local off method but there is another way.
Go to Settings/MIDI and use the  "Instrument Without MIDI Thru Function" selector to pick the device and channel your hardware keyboard is transmitting on.
Settings are on a Per Song basis, they're not global like Preferences are.

  • Using Mackie Control with Logic Pro 7 and Yamaha O1X

I currently own a Yamaha O1x which is a mixer/control surface/audio interface that I use with Logic Pro 7. I am planning on selling the O1X and replacing it with the Mackie Control Universal as my DAW controller and using the Apogee Ensemble as my audio interface. I already have purchased the Mackie Control Universal and would like to begin using it instead of the O1X as my DAW controller, but while I am waiting for the Apogee Ensemble to be released I still need the audio interface capabilties of the O1X. The O1X uses Yamaha's MLAN protocol to connect to the G5. MLAN is a firewire interface that can transmit both audio and midi. Does anyone have a suggestion for a work-around solution so that I can use my Mackie Control Universal (which connects via midi cable) and only use the audio capability but not the control surface of the O1X via the firewire connection? I haven't been able to figure my way through this one and see if it is possible. I have already tried having them both hooked up at the same time, and the Mackie Control seemed to work fine but the audio on the O1X didn't seem to be connecting and functioning properly. I appreciate any help as I am anxious to use my Mackie Control.
    Thank you!

You need to connect only the Audio and not the MIDI between your 01x and Mac. You can achieve this in mLan Graphic Patchbay-connect the cables between the Nodes in Audio part of a Graphic Patchbay, connect the Wordclock but do not make any MIDI connections. this way it should work as you want. the other way is to Make your regular connection from mLan Autoconnector and disable the MIDI ports that are dedicated to control the DAW by 01x by some freeware utility (01x uses port 1 for that...)
As this is quite 01x specific, please visit 01xray.com/forums where you will find more help, or send me PM.
As Apogee enssemble is expected to have great features, I would rather recommend the i88x instead of Enssemble (i88x has two Mic preamps-the best Yamaha produces (derived from Dm2000)VERY good converters (mLan is known for low jitter and it was tested with Rosseta by a mate from 01x forum who said (he tested it in store with other people) that i88x sounded better-may believe it or not...).The mLan Graphis Patchbay application allows you to patch connections between mLan devices and computer -very flexible. 01x already does almost the same as Mackie control and it is for almost the same price.... But maybe you are pi_ssed of waiting for new mLan drivers? I am just speculating....

  • External piano and Logic Pro

    Hello
I have Logic Pro 9 and external keyboard KORG SP250
I can play the keyboard and Logic Pro can record what I play from keyboard, it will play back as well, but it will use the speaker from the keyboard for output.
I dont know how to redirect to the speaker of my computer
    Thanks in advance everyone

  • External MIDI in Logic Pro 8

Hey what's up everybody?? I've been producing for a couple years now, but I've always just used a midi controller connected via usb to play my VSTi's (mainly minimonsta, slayer, omnisphere, etc.). Now I have a Roland Fantom X-6 and I'm trying to record those sounds into Logic. I'm running Logic Pro 8, and my audio interface is a Presonus Firebox. I have the Fantom connected to the Firebox via the MIDI I/O. I have logic recognizing the Fantom, but when I try and play it the sounds are distorted and sustained. Also, the area at the bottom of the arrange window where it shows the note you are playing will jump around from note to note. (Say I play an A...it will jump to C#, D, E#m, etc.). Is it an input problem? Maybe a setting that I am missing? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

These sound like the usual symptoms of midi feedback. Which means that, when you press a key, it sends a midi note to the external sound source, which in turn sends that same data back to Logic on the same channel, which in turn gets sent back to the ext sound source again.. you know, feedback. Only in midi terms, not audio terms. So the result is, lots of notes get triggered and a big mess is made.
You need to change some settings in the Fantom. I'd start by turning 'local' off. You'll also need to make sure that it's not sending midi thru on the same midi channel, which is what will cause the symptoms you are describing. Has been a while since I actually used an external keyboard for anything other than a master keyboard, so I'm a bit rusty on the actual settings, plus I never used a Fantom. But you should be able to find what you need to do pretty easily in the Fantom midi settings, and in its user manual. If there's a setting to turn off 'midi thru', try that. Also if it's receiving and sending on the same channel, try changing them to different channels.

  • Logic Control and Logic Pro 9.1.0

I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.1 and Logic Control V1.02 which makes it mackie control.
Today i set it up with Logic and noticed a few things:
    1. The level reading on the Logic Control's display is choppy...meaning if i raise a fader really slowly the display levels also rise slowly synced with on the onscreen faders. However if i move the faders a bit faster, the Logic Control display reading is very choppy--it always settles at the right level, but the changes are jumpy. Is this usual ? This was not the case with Logic 7.
    2. A few times the locator bar jumped forward missing beats, as if stop/play were pressed repeatedly. I rebuilt defaults and now it seems to be working fine, This used to happen to me in Logic Pro 7 as well, maybe its a fault with my controller. Anyone ever experience this ?
    Thanks
    Faisal

Cowbell, my experience has been different.
I tried the Logic Control mode but things were really wierd, some buttons not working, then the whole control lost contact with logic till i re-launched.
The Scroll bar jumping thing was happening a lot more often.
Then i deleted LC, trashed preferences and re-booted in Mackie Control mode.
Still strangeness and i went did the check TOUCHLESS FADER thing and all is working fine now which is WEIRD!!!!!! I think i may have a defect in the jog wheel/transport section but its all working fine for now.
I'll give it a few days.
    Thanks !!

  • External Drive and Logic Pro X

So I just bought a G-Tech 1TB G-DRIVE mobile Thunderbolt/USB 3.0 Hard Drive.  Now, should I have Logic Pro directly record to this external drive during recording sessions as opposed to the local (internal) HD, or will there be some performance hit as a result?  What is best practice?

    Hi, try the following:
select the external HD in the finder and press >cmd-i<
unlock and make sure you are the owner
now choose >Apply to enclosed items……<
    Have a nice day!

  • How do you update Mackie Logic control with logic pro 7?

I moved my setup to a new location and now when I boot up my logic control its just a blue screen. Ive found its firmware has been blanked. I did some research and it seems emagic used to send users an old .mid file to fix it, but that was long ago. Now all i have is a 1.02 from Mackie, but every time i go to play the song it says error code 1. Does anyone know how to fix this? I think I turned off MTC and the midi clock, but still no go. Does anyone know how I can correct this within Logic pro 7? Any help would be appreciated! Ive never had to do anything with logic control before this, but turn it on!

I figured it out! I had to reset midi drivers in Logic, then a unitor tab came up that was NOT previously there (?) under midi settings and from there i was able to turn off VTC/LTC which was causing the error code.

  • How to use external Microphone in Logic pro 8?

I am trying to use a condenser mic with interface (blue iclcle USB) and all I am getting is the internal mic. Does anyone know how to change this?
    Thanks L

    Hi Leza2unes,
Have you selected the device (blue ice USB) from within Logic itself?
Here are a few ideas to get you going. This is assuming that you have installed any drivers needed for the USB device you are using.
Logic Preferences> Audio> devices tab then, "core audio" tab make sure "Core Audio" is selected in the check box and that you see the "Blue Ice" (or something that relates to the name of your device)in the drop down menu next to the word "device".
    Hope that helps,

  • Can the Choir in GarageBand be controlled in Logic Pro by cc2?

I want to use my Akai EWI4000 Breath Controller to play the melody without words sung by the GarageBand Female Mixed Choir. Is that possible? I have tried just playing the track that way but instead of the voices I get a synth lead from inside the EWI. I can send breath control on channel 2 but how can I assign the choir to that channel , I do have that MIDI channel 2 assigned in the inspector to that track but it still doesn't let me control the voices-is there a way to do this?Is there a way to use the EXS with that GarageBand voice? I am in 9.1.5 and OS X 10.5.8
OK- I found I can use the EXS because it does give under the GarageBand drop down instruments the mixed choir, and so I thought it would work by remapping the EXS to use the CC2 breath control to play volume and relative volume for the voices, but that doesn't seem to be the answer, as I still just get a synth lead instead of the voices. Maybe it can't be done, I hope someone here might know about that. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Yes you might but you also might want to not mount it on your PC until you know it is safe to do so.
Try one of the ISO CDs download and burn with support for cleaning malware.

I would try Malwarebytes whatever you do and use, and might want to look at what they use.

  • Logic Pro X External Instrument Recording Problem

    Hi,
I am currently trying to record an external instument in logic pro x but coming across serious latency issues. I am just trying to figure out if the problems lies with my audio interface or the Daw?
I am currently using the Bass station 2 as my external instrument and the Scarlett 2i2 as my interface. My audio set up is below, can you point me in the direction as to where i might be going wrong?

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes trying to record the Audio from my Bass station 2 in to my scarlett 2i2. Currently using Yosemite 10.10.1.
I have tried rebooting and reducing the buffer to 128 but still having the same problem. Ive also tried drawing notes manually in to the piano roll but its still out of sequence and quantize only seems to make it worse when played back.
Recording straight in to an audio track seems to work fine but recording in to an external instrument channel doesn't.
I have to a screen shot of the piano roll so you can get an idea how much its out of sequence, its difficult to explain.

  • Logic Pro 9 Midi Problems Multiple Devices

Hello, im having issues with using multiple external devices in Logic Pro 9.  I have a virus TI 2 and a prophet hooked up to a Saffire Pro 40 audio card which I am using the Midi Hub.
Basically, If I have an external instrument (prophet) playing on a track I have to turn the virus off or else there is midi problems communicating with the prophet 08.
The Biggest issue i'm having here is that when the midi data in the external instrument track is playing, if I'm selected on the track while its playing, I get an extreme cluster #$)* of midi on the midi input display and it completely and utterly destroys what the prophet is trying to play into logic.
In my Midi setup on Mac Snow Leopard, I have the ins and outs of the prophet going to the saffire pro 40.  The virus is connected and playing midi via USB.
Anyone know how I should be setting this up so the midi information is not getting messed up?  Yes, I have consulted the user manuals.

  • Is Kore 1 controller can learn assignement to logic pro 8  ?

Hi! have a kore 1 controller with the native sofware 2.0.4 ... is it possible to have control on Logic pro 8 via midi learn with kore controller 1 (example: parameter: cut off in esp1 ...so that i can control the parameter with a knob from kore 1 controller?)
I've tried several routings and many things but it looks like it is impossible?
if someone can help me i'll be the happiest person on this planet!
the question is...is it possible? thank you

I don't know Kore 1 but it seems to be a normal Midi Controller so go ahead as follows:
1.) Choose the parameter on the track you want to automate located in the track header's automation menue
2.) Open Logic's Automation menue->Quick access and hit the Midi Learn button->move the knob that you want to assign tho the chosen parameter->then hit ok
3.) Set the track into Latch/touch mode hit play and record your Automation

  • Logic Pro - control sequencer tempo externally

Its a drag, that Logic Pro doesn't offer the option to sync to external Midi clock since version 8 anymore. While thousands of live players are switching to otehr applications: What has Logic Pro 8 or 9 to offer today to work around this problem without extra applications or devices?
Grateful for any easy and working answer.

I don't run any audio, just ESX24/ES1 stuff.
That's audio, any way you slice it. If Logic is hosting sound-generating plugins, it's doing audio.
On the flip side, if you were using Logic solely as a sequencer for external MIDI gear, and you shut off CoreAudio in Logic, only then would you truly not be doing audio in Logic. Now, wouldn't it have been nice to have a "MIDI only mode" so that Logic could in fact clock to external MIDI clock soley for the purpose of using it as a sequencer for external MIDI devices? Yup. I can only guess as to why they decided not to implement that.
If the tap works, then external tempo control is also back.
No. Tap only sets Logic's tempo, but it doesn't clock Logic. After you tap in the requisite number of taps, Logic free-runs at the new tempo under its own internal clock. So no, external tempo control is not back. It's just not there at all.
Then only midi-controlled start/stop/rewind would be missing to resemble midi clock functionality.
Even if you could (and you can) get Logic to respond to external tap tempo events (give it 4 up front and let it roll), it's going to re-interpret the tempo each time it gets those four 'taps'. So there's no guarantee that the tempo will be the same each time.
The only way to get this to work is to figure out how you can send MTC from one of your other devices and synchronize Logic that way. Otherwise (I hate to say it, but it's true) you're SOL.

  • Control external MIDI synth with Logic Pro X

I purchaced Logic Pro X to use it as a MIDI-sequencer for my external stagepiano: the Roland RD-700sx including two expansion boards (SRX-04 and SRX-10). I want to make records to create my own music. Before I record it as audio I want to record it as MIDI, because in that form it's easier to make adjustments.
The RD-700sx is GM-compatible, though the better quality sounds are stored in certain banks, which one can select bij entering a specific number to the MIDI control assignments MSB and LSB. For example: to select the Superior Grand Piano, MSB = 87, LSB = 64 and PC (program change) = 1. To select the 60's E. Piano 2, MSB = 87, LSB = 65 and PC = 5. To select the first tone wheel organ MSB = 112, LSB = 0 and PC = 1. To select the SX Rock Kit (drums) MSB = 86, LSB = 72 and PC = 2. And to select the staccato cello on my expansion board MSB = 93, LSB = 3 and PC = 79.
I spent a lot of time searching and asking on the internet how to select the desired sounds, but I don't know how to do it. So far I know you have to create a multitimbral MIDI environment and on each of the 16 channels you can assign a bank and enter the values of MSB and LSB. I found this article: Logic Pro/Express 9: Defining Custom Bank Messages - Apple Support
I understand a part of it, though I have too little experience with Logic Pro X to get the job done. Can someone please explain it to me from the beginning to the end? You would help me a lot!!!

did you do a firmware update  on 003 ?
