External display on late 2012 macmini does not go to sleep.

External display on late 2012 macmini does not go to sleep, instead the content freezes. After Pram reset it does go to sleep, till it undergoes next system sleep cycle (hibernatemode 25). I need to suspend it to disk because it is an offgrid setup and the power needs to be cut between Sessions. Display is connected to the hdmi port. Runing OS 10.8.4. Reinstalling did not help, neither. I have struggled with this for half a year now, it accured about 2 month after first use of the machine.
Thank you for possible help!

Next on my list would be an installation from scracht - wich i would obviously love to avoid
The bewildering thing is that through a pram reset i can get the display to sleep once again...
Maybe a hardware prob?
Might want to check using the thunderbolt port instead, as soon as i can afford the adaptor.
Anyway i will go to offline world for some time now, on a crazy bicycle tour trough remote eastern europe.
I would love to hear from you on an occasion of a peek to cyberworld during my trip!

    Hello,
    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

  • Highest resolution for external display for late 2012 retina?

I have a 15" late 2012 MBP with retina display.  I'd like to get an external monitor but I'm not sure about the highest resolution for an external display this Mac will support.  It looks like the 4K displays with only work with later models.  So what are you using and how do you like it?
    Thanks
    Amy

Yes, the 2012 MBP w/ Retina Display will support an external 4K display (using the Thunderbolt/mini display port)

  • MacBook Pro (late 2012 15") does not turn on unless I reset NVRAM

Since upgrading to Mavericks, when I power-on my MacBook Pro (non-retina, late 2012, 15"), I get a chime and the power light (right of front bezel of unit) comes on for a moment, then nothing. Screen stays black never comes on. If I power on with resetting NVRAM (hold down Option-Command-P-R), I get the expected double-chime, and the MacBook will come on as normal. I have a Samsung 256gb SSD and 16gb of Crucial RAM.
Is this Mavericks related? I never once had this issue in Mountain Lion. Any suggestions on what I can do to prevent it in the future?
    Many thanks.

  • My computer 27inch iMac late 2009 model does not wake from sleep.

Having issues waking my computer from sleep. Seems to be getting worse lately. Can work fine for one or two days then when clicking mouse keyboard there is no response. I have to press the power button for six seconds to turn off then turn on again.

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • Is it possible to boot windows solely from an external hard drive so that it does not affect the internal drive

Is it possible to boot windows solely from an external hard drive so that it does not affect the internal drive. I already know that you can partition the internal hard drive to do the very same. Idon't want to use any of the internal space to run windows so I'm asking if it is possible to use a flash drive or external drive through USB to run windows when it is plugged in.

Read https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5043762?start=0&tstart=0 to discover you can't do it.

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

It stops only, after pushing the button ''on/off'' for some seconds.

boot the Mac into safe mode, repair permissions while in it, then reboot normally.
if that doesn't help, try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  See if that clears the glitch.

Hi Roy, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

Can you upload Logic pro onto an external drive? Because my G5 does not  have 50 GB available for installation, Can you upload Logic pro onto an external drive? Because my G5 does not  have 50 GB available for installation

Logic 9.0.2 is the last version that runs on a G5 - 9.1.x is Intel only.
If you have only 50 GB left on your system drive, you should consider it full. Get an external drive and move your music, movies and photo's to it, and delete them from your system drive to free up space.
The free space on the system drive is being used by the OS to offload RAM, rule of thumb is to keep at least 20 % of the drives' capacity free. When you have less and less free space, your Mac will eventually become very slow (many "beachballs").
I believe the current Logic Package has version 9.1 on it, be sure you have the correct (9.0) version...

  • X11 DISPLAY from remote Unix host does not launch.

X11 is coming up with some very strange behaviour.
Launching X applications to display back on my Mac was working till just the last week or so. Now, for the most part, after setting up xhost on the Mac and settting the DISPLAY environment variable on the remote host.
Launching xterm (for example). Results in can't open display"ip addr:0" and "error couldn't find per display information".
But this does not happen in all cases. I have found one server where my display will route back.
I created a new account on my Mac and tried to see if it would work in a fresh account. X display works now in my fresh account for all the nodes that I can't access in my "regular" account.
I have removed my .Xauthority file and my .Xresoures file to see if anything in there was corrupting my ability to route the DISPLAY. This has had no affect.
What other Mac OS X files would affect the characteristics of how X11 is working?
    Warren

    Hi Zoarre,
    > why doesn't -X work in tiger? isn't it more secure?
Yes, the -Y option is very much less secure than the -X option. Unfortunately as you've noticed, this strict interpretation of "trusted" can be shall we say, inconvenient. You can read more about the X11 Security Extension Specification by downloading the PDF document from security.pdf.
The use of the -Y option will cause all X11 apps that you forward to be treated as "trusted". In the X11 Security Extension Specification, this means that the application can be trusted to be harmless and thus that security may be lax. For instance, xclock only conveys the local time and this information can be compromised without serious risk. However, if you designate a forwarded word processor app as "trusted", you are saying that your keystrokes need not be closely guarded. If the app is specified as "untrusted" it is isolated, preventing the sharing of those keystrokes. Of course it's difficult for most apps to function in such isolation.
Older versions of ssh were found to cause the client xauth vulnerability described in SSH client xauth Vulnerability. When they communicate the (usually MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1) cookie for your local XServer to the remote machine, it is placed in the remote machine's authorization cache for use by X11 apps to negotiate connections with your local XServer. Thus, if the remote machine's authorization cache is compromised, so is your XServer.
To minimize the risk, when ssh connects with the -X option it sends an untrusted cookie to the remote machine so that X11 applications that obtain authorization with this cookie are marked as untrusted and restricted in what they can do. While this is safer, the X11 Security Extension Specification is in its infancy and many apps crash as a result of the limitations. Thus, as you've discovered, the -Y option is often necessary. However, it is less secure and should only be used when necessary!

  • MacBook does not go to sleep lid is closed

My new MacBook does not go to sleep when I close the lid. I have to manually tell it to sleep before closing the lid.

I'm having the same problem too. I only noticed it recently!
I have Parallels VM installed, but not BootCamp, but just incase I restarted the Mac then with nothing running tried closing the lid but MacBook stays on. I've checked the Energy Saver settings, usual put computer to sleep after 1.5 hrs and put the display to sleep after 15 mins, but that shouldn't make any difference when I close the lid.
I don't have an external monitor, and i unplugged by USB mouse too.
Another thing I noticed yesterday is that even after leaving the MacBook idle for 1 hour, my screen had not dimmed, and Skype had not gone to 'Away' even though it is set to goto 'Away' after 5 mins. It's as if there was something using the computer? I dunno!
    And Ideas?
And if I DO tell it to goto sleep before I close the lid, when open it again, I need to hit 'anykey' wake it!
