External display problem after 10.9.2 update

Hello I have a Mac Book Pro 15" Mid 2012, OS X 10.5.8, 2.6 GHz i7, 8GB Ram, i have a 128 SSD (OCZ-VERTEX4 Media)
& a 750 HDD (APPLE HDD HTS727575A9E362 Media) in the optical drive, i have an external Led 1080p View Sonic VX2253 conected via thunderbolt HDMI adaptor, it was working fine until i installed the 10.9.2 update, now when i conect my display it becomes a the main display and the MB built in display becomes the secondary display, here some photos:
Anybody else with these problem, have some idea of the solution????
Tks

Yes similar problem here: I have a MacBook Pro, 15 inch Retina, Mid 2012, and when I connect a secondary display via HDMI (and also HDMI-to-Thunderbolt) then the external monitor becomes the main display.
I have not figured out on  how to switch back to former settings. My guess: it's a bug. A quick search confirms that many others have secondary display issues since 10.9.2
(Steve would have fired those lazy punks, who failed to do sincere testing before release …)

  • External display problem after 10.8.3 upgrade

After applying 10.8.3 Combo Updater, the external display would not wake up after the computer resume from sleep.
Mac: MBP Retina 13" Late 2012
    Display: Acer S230HL
    Connection: DisplayPort - DVI cable
    Please fix it Apple!

I have used an Acer S230Hl on three Makbook Pros via the VGA wire and a thunderbolt adapter. No problems at all with 10.6, 10.7. Worked perfectly.
With 10.8 the display would not wake up from sleep, most of the time. I found an annoying work around that helped maybe 70-80% of the time: unplug the VGA+adapter monitor feed, and then go to system preferences>>displays>>Color>>open the S230HL profile and then simply plug the monitor back in. I also delayed the sleep feature for 2 hours to prevent the problem, but it happens most of the tiem when I close the lid or put the machine to sleep manually.
Now with Maverick (10.9), even this elaborate this trick does not work. Why the loss in compatability Apple? I've called applecare twice and the techs have not been able to help--and now are not responding or calling me back. Having to reboot my mac 3-4x a day is a major problem. Anyone have ideas for me?

  • Back from sleep display problem after 10.5.4 update.

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo 15" only a month old. I updated to 10.5.4 tonight and everytime i open the lid it powers up as normal from sleep / standby mode and the screen is black. I can hear the hard drive doing it's thing. I didn't have this problem under x.5.3.
What i do, instead of selecting it to sleep or anything, i just use it, then just close the lid when i have finished using it.
I have repaired the disk permissions also reset the pram and its made no difference..
    Any help would be grateful..
    thanks
    Stu

Sorry i thought i would just add some details as it was late when i posted the above and clearly was far too tired ... lol
Basically the problem is, i updated to 10.5.4 with the full downloaded installed ie not from software update. Since then every time i just close the lid, then come back to it and open the lid i just get a black screen. I can hear the HD spinning up as if it's all working.. the only way i can get the screen to come back is if i hard restart (hold down power button) and restart the computer.. i have noticed it does it more if the battery is charging, as i come to it this morning with a fully charged battery opened the lid and it was all fine..
i had this problem on one of the updates i believe either x.5.1 or x.5.2 then it went away with an update..
I have repaired the disk permissions and reset the pram by restarting and holding the apple key + alt RP and nothing has made any difference.
Many thanks if you can help

  • Searching problem after 10.5.6 Update

Hello everyone, we are having a problem with searching shares mounted on clients from a server.
Prior to 10.5.6 we could search an entire share as well as folders in the share. After 10.5.6 we can't search the share and we can only search folders in the share.
The server is currently running 10.4.11.
I guess what I'm wondering is... are there people with server 10.5 that are also seeing this problem or would upgrading the server fix this search issue?
    Thanks

    Hi all...
I recently installed the 10.5.6 OS upgrade and I've encountered a problem. I can no longer search my network attached servers - there is no search activity of any kind when I type in search terms. My local search works fine...I just can't search anything on my network ... windows servers. Is there a compatibilty issue between OS X 10.5.6 and Extreme Z-IP? Any helpful tips

After upgrading our workstations from Mac OS 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, we no longer receive Finder search results from our file server that runs Mac OS X Server v.10.4.11.
Are there any other solutions available other than rolling the workstations back to 10.5.5 or upgrading the file server to 10.5.6

  • 3 Problems after jb 4.3 update

stockmail exchange active sync shows only headers - no mail content
bluetoth connect to my HTC One S didn´t work
screen flickers when using virt. keyboard
since everything worked well with 4.2.2 and there was no help from sony i decided to do a rollback
!* same problems with 10.41.B.0.109 (last working version for me is 10.3.1.C.0.136 aka 4.2.2)

    hi.
I contacted Sony about the Bluetooth / Wireless problem after the 4.3 update, eventually all I got back was that they're aware of the problems (Bluetooth) and are working on it for the next update. How long this will take is anyones guess.
I find it incredible that they rolled out the 4.3 update because it has so many bugs, at least give us an easy way to roll-back to 4.2.2 ...... that actually worked!

  • HT5313 Second Display Problem after Update v10.7.5

I just updated my MacBook Pro (Late 2011) and the new OS 10.7.5 is not recognizing my second display (VGA connected emachines 19''). I have restarted, changed the resolution, and tried many things, but the display that was working perfectly two hours ago now does not work. Help pls

    Hi There,
I suggested the solution on the link you refer (to solve this type of problem with gfxCardStatus)... unfortunately this solution did not solve the problem when upgrading to the 10.7.5, namely the new "supplemental update" that was released on the 4th of October (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599).
Here is a simple procedure I followed and solved the problem for me... this worked by chance after starting following the instructions in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19979833#19979833.
Restart your machine and, when the machine is in booting press "alt" (left option) to show a booting menu.
Select "recovery mode" (do this with the external display connected)
In the recovery mode you can test if the external display is detected (it should work normally)
Do not do anything in the recovery mode... simply Restart you machine (now in normal mode)
It should work normally now... (at least it worked for me)
I think this has to do with a kind of "reset" on the external displays configurations... But I still do not fully understand why this happened.
I hope this helps some people! Cheers!

  • Early 2011 Macbook external display issues after firmware update

I have a 2011 MBPro 15". After performing the firmware update in late April, I have continual issues when I connect my monitor. The screen is blank and I can move the mouse tap the keyboard etc. The display may come up for a scond and then it will close and the machine goes back to sleep. More wiggling and the process starts over.
If I raise the lid it may bing up the external display. Restarting is the only sure fix.
I also was unable to make a presentation today because the projector I was connected to would not show the MBP display.
I tried all the key combinations, detect display etc. and nothing.
Can I somehow go back to the prior firmware? Other solutions?
    SMC Version (system):          1.69f1
    EFI Driver Version:          01.00.521

I recently did a software update to my MacBook pro and had a similar issue, on restart it gets to the apple logo then just shuts off, after multiple hours on the phone with apple care they told me that it was coincidence that it happened at the same time as the update and it would be costly to repair as it was either something to do with display or logic board. I took my MacBook into my retail location I bought it from and was told that they have had MULTIPLE people bring in macbooks with the SAME issue (I live in a really small city so the amount of people is quite large proportion wise) and that they could fix the issue by remotely resetting the MacBook at a cost of $130-$150. Relatively cheap considering what I was fearing, but if this is a common problem related to Apples update why are we paying to fix it and why is apple support saying its something major???

  • Display problems after update

I recently updated- on balance things went ok-
How ever for some odd reason something is causing KDE (3.5) to behave oddly-
I used to have a app in the kde control panel that'd let me fine tune settings  (fonts and display size for instance)- I see the app but not how to fine tune the settings other than for gamma and color-
I can use the nvidia-tools to do some of that- however something is causing my directories to display incorrectly meening that when double click on say- /home/(username here)/ I have a big fat square block where files used to be- and any window moving over that gets fairly well corupted.
I can sort of work around this by changing from"icon view"- to info list view.
I'm not sure how to fix this
Anyway any kind of direction at all about what's causing this problem is great.

I have the same problem. It happened right after I installed the graphics update. When the computer restarted, my screen went crazy. I couldn't see anything, just a screen full of horizontal lines. After restarting a couple of times it seemed to go away, but it has begun to happen again recently. although not as bad yet. I am not saying it's not a logic board issue, but it does seem funny that more than one person is experiencing the same type of problem after the graphics update. I guess it's time to take a trip to the apple store.

  • Display problems after installing 10.5.2 and the leopard graphics update

Shortly after installing the leopard graphics update, my display started exhibiting problems.
The next day, the powerbook wouldn't even boot, just leaving me at a blue screen.
I tried verifying permissions and verifying disk, reinstalling leopard and eventually did a fresh install of Tiger, which boots, but crashes frequently and has graphics corruption as visible in this screenshot:
    http://pics.livejournal.com/dorukai/pic/000fw0hw
The same corruption is visible on a second monitor if I connect one.
The timing (being right after installing the graphics update) suggests that the update somehow caused this problem (flashing the video card firmware maybe?) but any ideas at all are very welcome at this point!
Unfortunately after installing Tiger I kept getting updates, and one has broken the ability to boot normally, I can only boot in safe mode

  • Display problem after update XP service pack 2

Can anyone advice me on the following :
I installed the XP service 2 (Xp pro) on my Satellite Pro 2100 and ever since I have at the right side of the display a black border that is not used of about 2 cm wide.
I've tried installing the latest nvidia geforce driver but that didn't solve the problem.
Before the update my resolution was put to 1024x768 32 bit colors, but now I can only put it to 969 x 768 ? Never heard of this resolution before but now my screen is no longer jumping from left to right.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks already,
    pLippo

    Hi pLippo,
it seems the display driver is not compatible to the Service Pack 2. I understand your issue in this way, you have this problem after installing the Service Pack and not before.
In my opinion you could download and install the latest display driver from toshiba (https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com) under Support and Download page.
If this doesn't solve the problem you could wait until toshiba releases a new display driver or you uninstall the service pack 2.
    Bye Hans

  • Apple cinema Display problem after update

I had a similar problem to lain Maclreud
Immediately after updating to 10.4.11 and rebooting the toparea on my cinema display went dim and I saw the 2 short, one lon blinks on my power display LED
I didn't try it on another computer yet or try to change my power source but I may need a new backlight card as well. Please post if you have had similar problems after updating and suggest possible solutions.

Have you tried the Command-Option-P-R keys to reset the PRAM? (Maybe the upgrade has messed up the display settings?)

  • External Display Problem - SMC Reset Required After EVERY Restart

I have a mid-2010 macbook pro that I often use in Clamshell mode with an external display (an ASUS VS239H-P 23-Inch Full-HD LED IPS monitor). I connect to my monitor with an Amazon brand HDMi cable via a Monoprice Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter. I'm running OS X 10.8.4.
Here's the problem... whenever I go "mobile" and disconnect my macbook pro from the external display, my macbook seems to work fine at first, but if I ever need to restart my macbook, it thinks it is still in clamshell mode upon reboot.  The built in display stays dark, and if I close the lid, the power indicator lights up and stays lit up; if I open the lid, the light disappears. It doesn't even matter if the power cord is plugged in or not, the computer thinks it is in clamshell mode.  This occurs ANY time I restart my computer, whether I'm booting into bootcamp or OS X.  If I do an SMC reset, I can successfully restart my computer.  But if I ever need restart my computer again, and I haven't reconnected to my external display, the problem happens all over again.  The only other way to fix the problem is if I plug my external display back in, then unplug it, which seems to remind my macbook that the display has been disconected.  Unfortunatley I can't do this if I'm out for business and my display is not near me.
What gives? What can I tweak to fix this? I'd rather not have to wipe the HD and do a fresh install of the OS.

It might be the CMOS battery has failed. That battery supplies power to holds all the firmware data, the system management controller data. So on a restart it is losing all that stored data for the SMC. You need to take the system to apple and have it fixed.

  • External display problems with snow leopard

I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my Macbook and it's created lots of problems with my LCD external display:
    - The display won't work at its native resolution (1680x1050) - it will flash up an image for 1/10 of second and then go black. I can only get it to work at a lower resolution, which looks AWFUL.
    - If I try to start up my Macbook with the lid closed and the display connected, the display won't work at all (it jams on the start up screen). It only works if I keep both of them running
I never had these problems when using Leopard. I've searched lots of forums and found that many people are having similar problems with external displays. Apple still haven't fixed the bug after repeated efforts from people to get if fixed.
Here are some threads (now closed) on this if you're looking for solutions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132912&tstart=0

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132837&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10084332
    Common suggested fixes are:
    - Force OS X to use LCD font smoothing (does not work for me)
    - Clear the PRAM on start-up (does not work for me)
    - Delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist (does not work)
    - Change energy management setting to high performance (only works on graphics cards in Macbook 15" and 17").
From reading these forums it appears that this is a well-know bug. Has anyone else got any suggestions to fix this? And why hasn't Apple fixed this yet after so many people bringing it to their attention? It's clearly a bug that wasn't in Leopard.

I'M FED UP WITH APPLE! They've always been a little shady, but the last half of 2010 took the cake!
First it was the iPhone 3g "upgrade" to IOS4 which was garbage and killed my ability to use the 3g until I figured out how to crack the software, wipe the thing clear then reinstall the original software. Next up was purchasing the iphone 4 as a Christmas gift for someone running tiger on their mac, only to find out that the iphone 4 doesn't work on tiger when they tried to sync their contacts - and then having to rush out and purchase snow leopard so that they could enjoy my gift. Then I install Snow Leopard (note - I purchased the family pack) onto my own leopard-running(10.5.+) powerbook only to have the external LCD display I've been using for years suddenly stop working.
Oh, okay, to be fair, it works IF I RESIGN MYSELF TO SET it to "mirror image" (which defeats the purpose of having multiple displays) and drop the resolution down to a pathetic, unsharp, nearly distored setting that is almost painful to look at knowing that this monitor was just A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO showing me crystal clear images.
Then I exhaust myself trying to find a fix only to discover that APPLE in their infinite brilliance (AKA - their torture of loyal customers) knows of the issue - worked it out - then created an update that created the issue all over again. I'm so done! No more macs. I'm going back to the evil land of PCs. At least there, you know you're getting crap, it doesn't sneak up on you after getting you to trust it time and time again.
