External Display Stopped Working

I've been using an external Dell 19" monitor with my beloved and faithful Macbook Pro for years. All of a sudden, I was unable to select the propert setting for the external monitor. Two days later the monitor stopped working altogether when plugged into the Mac. The Mac screen acts like the other monitor is working, but there's nothing on the external screen. The Dell monitor tries repeatedly to turn on, but the power button repeatedly changed from amber to blue while saying it's entering power save mode and never turns on. I've tried changing screen savers as recommended on another forum to no avail. I also ordered a new mini-DVI to AVG connector in the hopes that is the issue. I've confirmed that the Dell monitor still works fine by connecting it to my old PC, so that's not the issue. Any advice is appreciated. I read copy for a living and really need the larger display. Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

My external display works on other computers and worked on my imac fine untill a week ago when it stopped wroking. I reset PRAM and that seemed to do the trick, now it is not working again and the PRAM rest is not working. How would you proceed form here???

Turn the iMac off and unplug the power cord for about 15 seconds and then try again. You may also want to disconnect all peripherals except the second monitor while testing. If it works then add things back one by one to see if something else is causing the issue.

Imac - external display stopped working

My imac has developed a problem overnight. I usually have the imac connected to an external display via the mini-DVI connection and everything worked fine. (to DVI --> HDMI --> Pioneer Plasma).
However today the imac could not be awoken from sleep. Restarting gets to the desktop screen but then goes gray screen. After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the problem to the mini DVI port. The computer will not complete booting up if the mini dvi port is connected. Just in case it was a problem with the mini-dvi to dvi adaptor, I tested it with a mini dvi to vga adaptor. Exactly the same problem with the booting sequence (gray screen as it gets to the desktop image stage). Without the mini DVI port in use, the imac boots up fine.
Could somebody please give me some suggestions re any further troubleshooting procedures I could try to fix the problem, or does it sound like a videocard hardware problem? Thanks for any thoughts.

External display stopped working correctly

After one month of using external Acer 23 monitor via DVI cable from my MBP I started to get this weird screen:

I have the same problem occasinally with my acer v223w screen. The only solution I have found is to put the macbook back to sleep or to unplug/plug in the monitor connection from the macbook.
Have you also noticed that sometimes the colors will get washed out on both the acer and the macbook display when the acer is attached? If I don't get the screen you posted in your photo I get washed out colors on both. The (annoying) fix for that seems to be to open display preferences and click on the color tab. Simply opening this tab on each display returns the screens to their color profile. Can't seem to find a fix to that one and it seems to have gotten more frequent in 10.6 while the situation you described and photographed seems to have disappeared.

Laptop Built In Display and External Display not Working

Hi all, I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremly frustrated with this, and have an unbelieveable amount of stress because this was my only PC. Please respond as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.

Yes.. i think thats what might have damaged it...Notebook should always be completely powered off with the battery out and ac adapter disconnected while replacing any internal hardware..
Shouldnt be a BIOS problem....but still you can check this link..

17" MacBook Pro Display stopped working

Hello,
I have a 17" 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (purchased January 2008) and the display stopped working today. There is no light behind the Apple logo on the back or the display. The little white light by the latch works as normal, and I can hear the disk spin up when I power it off and on using the power button.
When I connect to an external monitor, there is no signal. When the machine is powered on, I can see the drive on the network. I have also tried booting up using an install CD as well, but no luck.
Yesterday, I updated all my software applications and did all the Apple software updates, everything worked fine. I am still on Snow Leopard, version 10.6.8.
Any suggestions? Is it toast?

Went to the Genius Bar yesterday. It's part of the NVIDIA issue.

External mic stopped working on my laptop

I was in the middle of recording music and then the external microphone stopped working, this is the first time it has done this. And yes I have it plugged into the right jack I also have checked to make sure that it is unmuted, I thought that maybe somehow the driver unistalled itself so I got another driver and still nothing. But to be honest I have no idead what I am doing here people so please any help will be greatly appreciated.

External Speaker stopped working - get sound through headset

I have a Zire 72. The external speaker stopped working. If I listen to music or voice memos through a headset, I can hear the message so the programs are working. I have tried a soft reset but no results. Has anyone had this expierience? Sounds and alerts all set to high in preferences.

The speaker cutoff switch may be stuck in the headset jack.
Try this procedure.
Turn the Z72 off. Get a non-conductive electrical contact cleaner (Home Depot has this in the electrical dept.)
Spray a few drops on the headset plug.
Insert and remove the plug in the headphone jack 5-10 times.
Wait several minutes for the cleaner to dry.
Power on the Z72 and see if the speaker works. If not, try the procedure again.

Dunno what it has to do with Yosemite, but: press the alt/option key, while clicking on the speaker icon at the right hand top of your screen. This will show you all the sound inputs and outputs for your mac. Ensure that it is set to "Line Out" or "Digital out" (depending on your speaker's capabilities. Hopefully

External speakers stopped working. Verified speakers operating with Iphone. Checked that speakers plugged in correctly. Tried usual power cycling step. External speakers do not show up in sound preferences. Anyone with any advice?

If you unplug the speakers to the internal speakers work OK? If not try resetting the system PRAM see Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If they still don't work or if the internal works OK then look into the speaker plug. Do you see a red light? There is a switch inside the plug that detects the presents of a jack and sometimes it gets stuck or breaks entirely.
You could try gently using a non-conductive device (a toothpick is good) probing inside the plug to see if you can free the switch. Of course this could be harmful if done incorrectly. If the system is still under warranty you might want to take it to have it looked at.

Is it possible to loop a Keynote presentation on an external display while working in another program (say numbers) on my laptop screen?

I have a 2012 MacBook Air.
What I would like to be able to do is plug into an external display and project a looping Keynote presentation on the external display. The problem is when I play the Keynote presentation, my laptop screen goes black. Is it possible to play/loop a Keynote presentation on an external display while working in a different program (Pages, Numbers, etc) on my laptop screen?

Left external speaker stopped working, right works fine. When I connect headphones, they work fine. Have tried two different sets of speakers, deleted plists and reset pram. Please help!

Hmm. I think its not a sound card and its not a speaker problem because both parts (left speaker and sound card) seems to be ok as you have posted in your message.
Im not quite sure what could be wrong but possibly this issue has something to do with the headphone jack there is a tiny switch inside the headphone jack which enables and disables the speakers if the headphone jack has been plugged.
Maybe this switch does not work properly.
What to say in such case the hardware needs to be replaced but in most cases the headphone jack is a part of the motherboard and in such case the whole mobo needs to be replaced and I think this is not worth because of the high parts costs

Hi, I have a problem with my driver display....
I installed the Autocad program , and after 2 weeks, every time that I open the Autocad, after 4 or maybe 5 min. the screen goes black and after that a note shows up saying: Driver display stopped working and has recovered. I Try to update everything using the Hp support assistance and still i have the same issue. I don't know much about the computer and the driver so I will appreciate if somebody give me a solution. Take it to Apple and ask them to fix the physical damage the water caused.

23" studio display stopped working

My 23" studio display stopped working with my mac pro but works with MBP.
It started by not waking up everytime my Mac Pro went to sleep, but if I unplugged it and plugged it all back it and restarted it would come on however now the screen will not even come on. The power light is on and when I plug it into my MBP it works fine.
I'm not exactly a tech whiz but could it be the graphics card? Which is currently - ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB
It's out of warranty so before I trek down to the Apple store I thought I'd see if I can fix it myself.

Same for me, after having installed SL and allowing the computer to go to sleep. When trying to wake it up, the computer boots (at least it sounds so), but the display stays black. If in system prefs/energysaving/ I set the computer to "never sleep" but allow the screen to go asleep it works OK. As soon as the computer goes to rest it is impossible to get the screen working again, have to do a physical reboot. Works fine then......., but I really would like to use the energy savings prefs!
I've looked into other threads of similar topics, did not find any clues. Judging by the number of threads, this is a well-known issue, waiting for to be answered by Apple.
Suggestions?
