External dvd not reconized after 10.4.5 update

I have a LaCie D2 Porsche FW and I was able to burn DVD's and CD's w/no problem. Since the updated software my drive is not reconized. I Tried using Toast and Popcorn and the disc is not seen at all...I tried several types of media--HP, TDK and Sony--none work---help me if there are some drivers or app that can settle this little problem.

Did you unplug the drive during the upgrade?
It is recommended that you do that.

My wife and I both installed the 10.6.3 update on her computer (Macbook 2.4GHz Intel) and mine (Macbook Pro 2.6GHz Intel). Following the update, neither of us is able to access her external (USB) hard drive - an Iomega Select 320Gb model. My two Western Digital drives appear to be working fine.
The following error message is displayed:
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
The three options provided are "Ignore, Eject or Initilize". I presume the latter option would wipe the drive, which we are not keen to do!
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Doubtful. You need specialized +Data Recovery+ software, or a service that performs the function. It's not cheap, and there are no guarantees.
The app mentioned here most often is +Data Rescue 3,+ but I haven't used it myself, so can't recommend it over any of the others.
Some of these have a free "trial mode," that will tell you if there's anything to be recovered, and perhaps recover a single file. For more, you have to pay the $$.
You'll also need another drive to receive anything it can recover.
Look for apps or services under +Data Recovery+ via Google, VersionTracker.com, or MacUpdate.com.
I had no idea that external drives should be ejected before updating. Apple really should give a serious warning message if this is a recurring problem.
It's certainly not common, and I've never seen an "official" warning, just a few reports here and there. I still find it hard to believe it can happen, but I figure it's worth ejecting and disconnecting. I just forget to do it most of the time.

Check the manufacturer website if the device is supported on Yosemite.
If not, you can get a SuperDrive from Apple which can run on any OS X version.

ipod touch 5th gen will not sync after windows 8.1 update. Computer see's Itouch as mass storage and charges. Worked with Window's 8 fine, as soon as update was done and restarted computer Itouch doesn't show up. Itouch seen on two other computers.

See if your iOS device, computer, and wireless plan all meet the system requirements for Personal Hotspot.
Make sure Personal Hotspot is on: Tap Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Check the Internet connection on your iOS device: Tap Safari and load a new webpage.
If one connection type doesn't work, try another. For example, instead of connecting using Wi-Fi, use USB or Bluetooth.

I would make sure you are using an Apple branded cable with your iPad. If you are, the troubleshooting steps in the article below may help. The steps listed below for the iPhone and iPod still apply to your iPad.
Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.

Ok now the home button not working after 5.0.1 update. Anyone have any ideas? How do I roll backfrom this update?

This happened to me as well. AT&T had me reset my network settings and this fixed the problem. Here is how...
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
"For now" the problem is fixed for me.

External monitor Syncmaster 2494SW not working after 10.6.7 update

External monitor Samsung Syncmaster 2494 SW stopped working after 10.6.7 update on 2011 MacBook Pro. I'm using miniDP-DVI adapter. The monitor shown correctly in Display Properties with right modes and name. MackBook recognizes connection but the monitor goes to PowerSave mode (LED indicator blinks).
Safemode boot, SMC reset, PRAM reset did not help.
Exactly the same setup works perfectly under 10.6.6.

HERE IS THE EASY FIX SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM GUYS:
I have an 15inch MacBook Pro that I've just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on.
Prior to this install, I've had it hooked up to my Samsung SyncMaster 2243 via an Apple MDP/VGA adapter and a third party VGA cable. It has been flashing on and off a black screen every now and then for the past 2 years and I googled that it was just a crappy communication between the MBP and the Samsung... but now since installing 10.6.3, the Samsung display just flashes the desktop for a second then turns black for good - occationally flashing analogue/digtal prompt display. Tried everything for hours. Nothing worked, thought I was gonna have to buy a new all Apple VGA lead then came across Michael's above solution. Tried it and it worked IMMEDIATLY!!! And the monitor doesn't flash black anymore AT ALL!! Whoo-hoo!! Thanks heaps.
WHAT TO DO TO FIX:
Go to => System Preferences => Energy Saver => change graphic settings to Higher Performace.

External HD not working after updating to os x maverick 10.9.2

I have a late 2010 macbook pro just updated to os x mavrick this week. My toshiba external hardrive was working fine with os x moutain lion. the hard drive is showing up under disk utility and is working fine on a frineds macbook he also is running Mavrick. I have run disk repair and verified the disk useing disk ulitilty. The only thing i can not do verify disk permission. Has anyone had any similar problems or know how i can fix this issue. I have apple care but i am deployed at the moment nd can not make it into a store. thanks in advance for any information.

My hard drive is a toshiba canvio. After reading the post above DOC- 602. I went under system prefrences and saw Tuxera NTFS, under about I went to there website. I had to download a new version for OS X. After the install my computer automatticly restated I popped my hard drive in and it is working fine. It is only a 15 trail version, the paid version is $31. I will wait and see what happens after thr trail version and may have to pay the $31. Additaional info I plugged a WD my passort in to my computer and it did not read as well before I updated the Tuxera NTFS. I just checked and it also worked with out any problems. I hope this helps other people.

Are you trying to format your laptop? Since your external USB isn't working, you can still format even without the Recovery CD if:
You're still using the original Hard Drive that came with the laptop and haven't installed the laptop with a different Operating System before.
Also if your laptop didn't come with a Recovery CD when you bought it.
We can try doing System Recovery and I can give you instructions on how to do it.

May I know when you upgrade OS to 8.1, this external HDD still attached?
So before your upgrade your OS, this external HDD working fine?
Did you try to attached your external HDD to another PC or laptop?
did you check inside device manager whether your external HDD detected?
may I know the details your external HDD spec and PC spec?
Please provide as much as information that related to this issue

External Harddrive not detected after 10.4.10

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro with an external Maxtor harddrive. Up until yesterday I never had a problem connecting it, but after then update today I can't get it to connect. It connects via USB.
If someone can tell me where to look I can provide technical data so perhaps I can get this solved. Anyone?

As a practice I always remove external drives from my computer prior to software update and this particular drive that was causing me trouble was put away, so I know that's not the problem.
I spent about an hour on the phone with AppleCare and got all the way up to the senior most rep but we didn't have any success. The rep was very responsive and seemed truly interested in figuring out the cause of the problem. He made extensive notes and documented the problem and said that he was sending it off to the "engineering team" to investigate further and hopefully would have more information for me early next week.
If you have AppleCare I would STRONGLY encourage you to call as well and report your problem. If nothing else it will allow them to gain more documentation on the types of hard drives and systems impacted and the more people who call in will encourage them to release a patch or update.
As a side note, although it doesn't resolve the problem, I was able to mount my drive by physically removing the drive from the USB 2.0 case and putting it in a FireWire case instead. It's not a solution and I would like to get both drives and cases up and running, but it did allow me access to my data. Though I'm sure not everyone has the ability to swap out a drive case so it's not a practical solution for most.
