External edit function not opening photo in external editor

Hi folks , hope you can help , my external editor function in lightroom 4 has stopped working ie It will open the external edit space but the image does not open in that space any ideas . Your help much appreciated

You cannot use iphoto that way. PSE can't open photos from iphoto because if it were to write to your iphoto library it could easily corrupt it and cause the loss of all the images there. You should NEVER poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto.
You have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto. Save, not save as without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember your last saved edits and the original, but you will need to lose the edits to revert back to the original. You will need to go to the PSE preferences>saving files and set On First Save to Save over existing to make this work. When you see the Save As window, something is wrong.
2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in the editor and make all the changes you want, then save your image in any format or with any name you like and import the edited photo back to iphoto as a new file. This lets you save as many versions of your photo as you like.

a friend of mine has the same problem - also updated from LR3 to LR4, external editor: elements 10
Which process version is the image you're trying to edit externally?
You right-click (I'm assuming PC, can't help Macs), there should be a context menu option "Edit in".  You choose that, and there's an option for Elements 10 or not?
If so, what happens when you select it?  Do you get any further message?
If not, you may have to go to Edit menu, preferences, External Editing tab and create a preset for Elements.  In the "Additional External Editor" area, click "Choose" and navigate to wherever Elements is on your machine and you can create a new external editor.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 will not open photo files

You are rude, to say the least.  It is adobe's fault for marketing it as compatible.  Yet another reason why I want nothing to do with adobe.  The fact they marketed it as compatible when it is not is what I have a problem with.  I am not blaming the software, I am blaming the company.

  • PhotoShop Elements 9 Edit will not open.

After opening 2 or 3 images in Elements 9 edit a dialog box will come up and say "Elements is already running but is not responding close the Elements process or restart your system". I do not see where I can close the running Elements process. I have used Elements 9 for several months and have never run into this problem. Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem?

Thank you for the response. My Elements 9 Editor problem seemed to fix  its
self. After restarting the computer the Editor would open for 2 or 3 images
then refuse to open again. After the fifth restarting of the computer the
Editor  has continued to work and now seems fine. Not sure what caused the
problem  in the first place. I will use the advise given below if the problem
    starts  again.

Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor. The Editor's executable is:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe" The Organizer's executable is:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe" The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again. • IMovie Project from External Hard Drive not Opening?

    Please help!!
Fairly new to MACs, iMovie and iDVD, I didn't have a clear understanding of how saving iMovie projects worked. Reading various tutorials, I thought I had a clear understanding of how they work. Apparently not with my recent frustration with iMovie.
I created several iMovie Projects but needed more space in order to make more projects for my internship thus I did what I thought was common sense -- get an external hard drive.
I exported iMovie projects into my user account and from there, dragged the saved projects into an external hard drive and then deleted the iMovie projects from my user account.
However, when I needed to retrieve these projects, I simply turned on my hard drive and clicked on them to open. However, whenever I tried opening them, they wouldn't open. Is it because I didn't export them to the hard drive in the first place?
What I don't understand is why iMovie is not opening or recognizing the saved iMovie projects from the external hard drive when the size and kind clearly indicate that it should open with iMovie automatically.
What is the proper way of saving my iMovie projects and events so that I can always have access to whenever I need to open up an old project or simply edit?

Freeing up space on your Mac hard drive in iMovies ’08.
The application iMovie ‘08 has two main libraries displayed in the iMovie window: Events and Projects. Events are the main imports from your video camera, say. These files are big and you have the option to save them on an external hard drive and so iMovie knows to find them there. Projects are your editing instructions like what clips you want and where. The files are small and you save them on your Mac hard drive. They are NOT the clips only signposts where to find them (in Events on your external hard drive). You can move Projects to your external hard drive as back-up but iMovie will not find them there. If you then delete Projects from your Mac, iMovie can no longer make use of them unless you manually export them back into iMovie from your external hard drive. See Apple Article HT1026 iMovie '08: Moving iMovie footage to another drive (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026). Here the external hard disk is used for moving Projects from one computer to another and, by implication, back to the source computer.
Sharing the projects to iTunes for syncing with Apple TV creates (publishes) movies that take up the same amount of space on your Mac as the source Projects. You can still burn DVDs in iDVD using the iTunes Movies as your Media so provided you have iMovie Projects backed up on your external hard drive you can delete them from your Mac and just use the iTunes Movies (for Apple TV and iDVD). In addition, publishing iMovie Projects in iTunes for syncing to Apple TV results in these files being duplicated in both Movies/iMovies Sharing/iTunes AND in iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies so delete them from here and get even more GBs back! Tell iTunes in Advanced not to save these iTunes published movies anymore in order to stop further duplication ocurring.

  • IMac external hhd does not open on networked windows 8.1 pc

    Hi there
I hav a 2008 iMac with OS 10.10 and it has three external HHD that are networked to my windows  pc. I can see the icons on my pc but when I click on a drive it will not open. In fact  it can crash windows explorer and pc has trouble turning off or restarting even logging off. I think I have the correct setting on the mac and pc. I can see and open the shared folders on the mac from the pc but can not open the drives. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. Driving me mad.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi Gottfried,
No, I have not found a solution yet. Because I don't have any issues when I am running Fiddler2, I did some research on that program. On their website, they say the problem (that Fiddler fixes) is usually caused by applications sending the GetResponseStream()
method but failing to call close on the resulting object. The maximum connections-per-host is then reached. But, I don't know if Win7 and Win8 handle SharePoint requests differently - I'm guessing that they do.
According to our service provider, this is a bug in the combination that we are running (Win8 and SP2013 w/SSL). They have more than 20,000 customers and can't get it to work! I have went through their level 1,2 and 3 support teams who all could not solve
    it.
I am surprised that you got it to work in your internal environment - do you also have port 80 (in addition to 443) accepting requests?  I have no problem at all when using no encryption.  On the public site I have a valid certificate and internally
using self-signed. (No different than when I was running SP2010). I have tried different combinations of authentication methods and ordering, but nothing worked.
Hopefully, somebody can provide some insight into what might be going on here, so that you and I can get this working. It has become a major problem in our company and our employees are starting to revert back to alternative services to share files.

  • Will not open leopard on external hard drive

I am running Lion on an iMac 27" 4 core and I am trying to open on an external hard drive loaded with Sow leopard but the screen shows the apple icon and just sits there with no loading spinner. I also have a 13" macbook pro and have no trouble in opening the same external disk with snow leopard. The imac also does not like opening from the dvd.

If by opening you really mean booting, then most likely it can't handle the differences between the iMac and the MBP. There are differences with machine-specific builds. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2681 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186 for details.

  • Logic will not open with out external soundcard after Mavericks upgrade

    Hi
Recently upgraded my Mac to Mavericks and my Logic 9.1.8 (32 Bit) worked fine. I have a Digidesign 002 rack which I was using as an external soundcard. These all worked fine until I updated my Digi drivers. Now Logic will not open unless the Digi is connected, Logic has also been updated but still no joy. Logic freezes when opening on 'checking midi drivers...'
Is there a preference I need to change or do I have to remain connected to my Digi forever?! lol
    Thanks
    Candy

    Remove the Digidesign Midi drivers.....
Logic Pro 9 crashing at "Check MIDI Drivers."
As you will see, this sort of problem with Avid/Digi Midi drivers has been around for a long time now.....

  • Premiere Elements not allowing me to edit photos. I am not interested in videos. Also not opening photos from other sources. Windows 8 computer

I have many photos in my files and computers; most of them are visible in Premiere elements Organizer, but I can't edit them or pull out individual ones. Often cannot open a photos that comes in an email. I don't use videos; I just want to edit my photos.
Did I buy the wrong program?

    Hi
Premiere Elements is a video editor not a photo editor. This is why you cannot edit your photos.
The organiser is for both Photoshop (photographic editor) and Premiere (video editor) elements. This is for managing your photo and video library.
    I hope this helps.
