External H D was NTFS now it is 'RAW' WHAT TO DO?

I have a Western Digital 2T External HD. It "pooped-out" some time ago but being always hopeful I keep it connected to my computer. It continually says the drive must be formatted . . . it took me a long time to reconcile myself to the fact
that I would have to let all of my information (almost the full 2T!) go - it is lost to me! So when I finally clicked the ok go ahead FORMAT button the stupid thing will not or cannot be formatted. Tonight it appears to have changed to RAW. HOW can I reformat
this "machine" I DO NOT need to retrieve ANY info from it! I just want to be able to use this external hard drive once more. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ‽
PLEASE !!!
Maybe I should add my computer recognizes this hard drive as Local Disk (F:) it used to be recognized as My Book (F:) AND I also have another identical WD 2T External HDD which works
perfectly – KNOCK ON WOOD !!! named My Book (D:)

• External Hard drive was working, now "Original Item..Can't be found"

I have a Air Port Extreme and an iMac and two Laptops in my Household. We also have a External Hardrive connected to the Extreme that we can all access. However one of the Laps tops suddenly stopped accessing the hard drive. It is listed in the Finder, but when we click on it it gives us the following message..."The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “PASSPORT” can’t be found." (Passport being the name of the Hardrive). Any ideas what is happening here? The other computers are working just fine.

Well maybe you can directly connect to that hard drive and use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility on it and see if can do the Repairs on that disk. The hard disk might be going a little or get a bad block so Disk Utility might be able to repair it.

• USB 2.0 external HD - once was visible, now it's not...

Hello folks,
I plugged in my Acomdata 80G USB 2.0 and it was working as it should have, except that it kept telling me that I could be using USB 2.0. My understanding was that I had already installed 2.0, so I figured maybe the drivers needed updating....so, using the MSI Live update, I installed the latest drivers and BIOS.
Since then, the HD is inaccessible and appears in the Device Manager as USB Mass Storage Device with the yellow flag. The device status in the properties box is 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'
Can anyone assist me in fixing this??
Thanks,
sjcecran

try uninstalling it from the device manager (double click it and uninstall the driver).
Then disconnect it and plug it back in.
Are you using a USB port straight off the board or through a USB hub/front port etc?
Thanks for your reply...
I did try uninstalling it from the Device Manager and plugging it back in...also tried finding it with the new hardware wizard. Using either method, the device is found but I eventually get the same error message as I outlined above.
Originally I had the device plugged into the optional USB 2.0 bracket that connects to JUSB1, JUSB2, OR JUSB3, which apparently are the 'front' USB connectors. However after plugging it in to the USB port straight off the board, I get the same problem.

I was trying to move my photos from the iPhoto library to an external hard drive.  I now have a desktop display of thousands of cascading photos.  How do I remove them from my desktop screen?

Strangely enough we can not see you so it really helps if you share with use exactly what you have, exactly what you did and details about the problem
what version of iPhoto and of the OS? What exact steps did you do? where are you seeing these "thousands of cascading photos" now and using what software and what exactly did you want to accomplish
The correct way to move your iphoto library to an external drive is to verify the drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journal) and then drag the iphotl library intact as a single entity to is
The correct way to move some or all of your photos is to select them in iphoto and export 9file menu ==> export  --  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921 ) to the external drive

• What program i can install to make my external Hdd work on NTFS ?

what program i can install on my Lion to make my external Hdd work on NTFS ? My NTFS-3G is not working anymore. Any suggestion?? Thanke.

I thought this to be true, until I was on the Mapquest website and tried to use the print button. I used Mapquest with firefox 3.6 and had no problem with the buttons or any printing problems at all.
Then I upgraded to the new Firefox 4.0.1 and now I can not print maps from Mapquest. Is there another program that I can use to take the place of smart print, until there is an update that is compatible with Firefox 4.0.1?

• I upload all of my photos from my iphone 5 onto my macbook air to get more space on my phone, and now whenver i try to upload it says there is no more storage or there was a problem transferring a picture. what can I do to get more space onto my iphoto?

i upload all of my photos from my iphone 5 onto my macbook air to get more space on my phone, and now whenver i try to upload it says there is no more storage or there was a problem transferring a picture. what can I do to get more space onto my iphoto? I've tried putting the pictures on flashdrives, but iphoto would no tlet me transfer.

I don't know how large the SSD (solid state hard drive) is, or how big your iPhone 5 is, but with some iPhones having 64GB and some Airs having as little as 64GB and some having as much as 512GB it's not hard to see how storing the contents of your iPhone 5 on your Macbook Air could run you out of space.
Go to the Macbook Air and bring up a finder window and pull the Go menu down and go to the Computer. Right click on the Macintosh HD and select get info. See if there is any available space on the MacBook Air. If not you are out of SSD space (you're storing more on your Macbook Air than it has storage for). I'm not sure if iTunes can store its library on an external hard drive or quite how you would make that happen. But even if you managed that, when the hard drive was disconnected, you would lose access to your library. Using a smart media card might be possible (I don't know) but it would probably be irritatingly slow. If you have a small Air and a big iPhone you might just have to find a different computer to sync to. Just remember a 64GB iPhone is a big chunk of SSD for a Macbook Air. I did it with my previous and my current Air but even my previous one had 256GB and I really just fit.

Thanks!

I called Apple Support and they walked me through it. They told me to basically copy and paste my music to the external hard drive. (I think.) Or maybe it was they had me transfer a folder to the EHD. I don't exactally remember it was a few years back. But I tried to plug in the EHD before starting and...nothing. Still says same thing, "locate file."

• My External Hard Drive is now classified as RAW - can you format it - External Flash Drive

My External Hard Drive is now classified as RAW - can you format it
ear Forum,
I have a Generic Flash External Disk Drive that I am having trouble formatting.
It has data that used to be on it before I changed the Storage Policies on the Control Set in the Registry Editor after reading on how to do it on the Microsoft Knowledge Base Formatting
disks and drives: frequently asked questions
I have copied and pasted the data that was originally on the disk - I just want to know if there is a way of making the Generic External Disk Drive usable again.
I am unsure of the different names to change it to and just wish to utilise it again.
I tried to change the Format via this link How to Format FAT32: 7 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow - It came up that I had bad sectors.
Can someone please assist?
This is what I did in Registry Editor - I had to create the the StorageDevicePolicies folder.
Open Registry Editor.
In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
Note: This key might not exist. In that case simply create it as a new key under the parent key.
Create the following value (DWORD):
WriteProtect
and give it a value of 1.
Note: As always, before making changes to your registry you should always make sure you have a valid backup. In cases where you're supposed to delete or modify keys or values from the registry it is possible to first export that key or value(s)
to a .REG file before performing the changes.
Close Registry Editor.
Done!
I really require the information or wish to reuse the disk so can someone assist

Hi,
In Disk Management you could right click on your Drive I and choose Delete volume. However from the error message provided in Diskpart commands (Track 0 Bad) generally caused by hardware issue, so we may not able to fix it with software such as diskpart
or format.
Another possible fix is to run a Low-Level Formatting. This could be done by third party product which generally will be provided with a disk when you purchase the hard disk. You will still need to contact manufacturer if Diskpart and Disk Management
cannot help reformat the disk.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to re-install and got the following message:  iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
Does this mean I have now lost everything?

I just had the same error:
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.  Please contact the apps support team for more info.
I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.
Good luck!

From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
Reset the NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.
