External HD asking to Initialize

I have a WD 1TB HD hooked up using firewire i loaded a bunch of files on my external HD and ejected it. THe next day i pluged it back in popups up with a message that the computer can read the volume and i need to re initialize eject of ignore. I would like to keep my files so i used data rescue II and the computer finds most of my file but there all renamed to a default and not in the same folders is there a way to keep this or a better program?

it was FAT 32
Have you tried connecting it to your Mac via USB?
Also, FAT 32 isn't the most reliable file system, don't trust backing up important files to it. And it has a file size limitation of 4GB, plus it doesn't work with Time Machine.
EDIT: It sounds like the file system is hosed but here's a piece of firewire voodoo with long odds against it working. However, since it can't hurt it's worth a try
Shut down your Mac and disconnected your firewire cable from both ends and let it sit about ten minutes then reconnect and try. Also, it is important to disconnect the AC power to your Mac, this helps to reset the FireWire port(s).

  • External servlets cannot find initialize

    I'm trying to get the Portal to execute servlets for external providers and I'm having difficulties.
    The instructions from the provider had me change the zone.properties to include an alias for the servlet and init parameters for the alias
    servlet.webexportlet.code=oracle.portal.provider.v1.http.HttpProvider
    servlet.webexportlet.initArgs=provider_root=<path to directory containing provider.xml>,sessiontimeout=180000
    When I go to test the portlet, I get an exception in jserv.log
    (ERROR) ajp12: Servlet Error: ClassNotFoundException: oracle.portal.provider.v1.http.HttpProvider
    It couldn't find the HttpProvider class
    Found a directory path ..../oracle/portal/provider/v1 that contained a provider.jar file. This may not be the correct one though. It's path doesn't seem to relate to the portal.
    Created wrapper.classpath=<above path to provider.jar file > in jserv.properties.
    Then when I test it, it seems to find the HttpProvider class. I then get the following error.
    webexportlet/oracle.portal.provider.v1.http.HttpProvider: init
    (ERROR) ajp12: Servlet Error: Initialization error while loading the servlet: No Provider class defined via this servlet's initArgs
    The first line of the provider.xml file in the directory pointed to as the provider_root in the initArgs contains the following:
    <provider class="oracle.portal.provider.v1.http.DefaultProvider" session="true">
    so it does look like the provider class is defined. May not be finding it in provider.jar file though. Not sure. Certain it's not a typo in the path to the provider.xml file.
    There are three different servlets we're trying to add with the provider.xml file in different directories and they all give the same error.
    Stuck from here. Any help you can provide will be a great assistance.

    what version of the portal are you using?
    What version of the JPDK are you using?

  • External Hard Disk Issue

    I have a Seagate Free Agent external USB hard disk (250 GB) which I had reformatted to FAT32. This draws power from the USB port and seems to work perfectly on my Linux (Fedora Core 8) and Windows (XP) boxes. On the Mac, when it is plugged in, it asks me whether it should Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I choose "Ignore" and then go on to mount it from the terminal using the commands sudo mkdir /Volume/FA sudo mount /dev/disk2s1 /Volume/FA. The device name has to be found out first using Disk Utility. After it is mounted, I can read, write, delete etc. without any problem.
    Question: Why does it not mount this disk automatically? Even when it is mounted why does it not put a disk icon on my Desktop?
    I have no issues with smaller FAT32 pen drives which show up on my Desktop a few seconds after I plug them in.
    Thanks

    It should mount the disc automatically. I have no idea why yours does not. If OS X asks to initialize a drive it's because it does not recognize the disk format, so perhaps it has something to do with how the drive was formatted or partitioned or both.

  • External drive not mounting after crash

    I had the finder lock up on me and I had to force a restart.
    At the time an external USB2 drive was plugged in. Since the forced restart the external drive is not mounting. It won't mount via USB2 or Firewire. It is formatted as Mac OS Extended.
    Upon booting the computer notifies that it can't be read and asks to initialize, ignore or eject.
    The system profiler sees it. Disk Utility sees it but it won't allow the options to verify or repair to be used.
    Disk warrior, Drive 10, and Disk Rescue won't allow the drive to be fixed unless its mounted. In fact the drive won't even appear as an option in those programs without mounting.
    So what do I have left to try?

    After trial and error and moving the drive around to various enclosures I had Disk Utility open up the options to verify and repair.
    It wouldn't actually fix it or go through the whole process of fixing it but that was enough to let a boot from the Disk Warrior CD see the drive as an option.
    I only recovered about 60% of what was originally on it after DW redid the directory but it was at least something.
    One question though what sort of issues could my boot drive's directory have that would effect the external ones? Is the corruption the fault of the internal drive?
    I ask because although I've been assured that it will work fine I am running a 160G drive in a machine that only sees the first 128GB as the boot drive. I am not 100% positive that won't have some side effects but everyone around here seems to tell me its all good and that I shouldn't worry about that. Its this belief that makes me use the external drive as my torrent media drive since there is so much more reading and writing being done to it.

  • OBIEE11g1.5 External Table Authorization

    Hi,
    I have integrated LDAP for authentication.
    But for roles I have created an external table and by initialize block, I am populating it dynamically.
    My cache is disabled in NQSConfig file and Cache is unchecked in initialize block also.
    It is populating properly in My Account-->Roles and Catalog Groups.
    But my problem is:
    If user1 first logs in and he has access to AP Subject Areas, he is able to see it.
    But after it User2 logs in, who has AR Subject Areas, is seeing AP Subject Areas, rather than AR.
    Could anybody help me.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
    Couple of questions here.
    1. If you do not assign the roles through an external table and manage them still through EM, do you still see this issue?
    2. If you still see that user2 could see AP Suject Area then, there is a high chance of an issue with your roles and their relationships.
    3. How about the user2 roles relationship with roles of user1. I mean, by any chance user2 belongs to a role which has access even to AP Subject Area. Did you try explicitly setting the role 'NO Access' restriction in your dashboards security?
    4. What happens if the user2 logs in first? Does he still see AR Dashboard, but this time if user1 logs in later, he too sees AR Dashboard?
    Thank you,

  • External Application without portal ?

    Hi all
    I have several applications built in JSP + BC4J , deployed in Oracle Application Server 10G (9.0.4) , operating system is windows 2000 server.
    Application server middle tier and infrastruture are in the same server.
    I have added all applications to SSO as External Application
    I'm not using Portal, so, how can i make this applications "visible" to end user ?
    Should i built and JSP page wich lists all External Applications, asks for login/password if authentication cookie not exits ??
    is there any other way of doing it without portal ???
    Best Regards
    Rui Madaleno

    Rui,
    actually the External Applications implementation is completely separate from the Portal and does not require it to function. (The external Applications Portlet is a simple interface to expose the list of external applications.
    If you are looking for a simple interface to expose the list, it is much as you describe. Building a simple Partner application which has links referencing the appropriate SSO server URLs. Storing the links in a table and simply querying them allows for a simple interface that can be secured/modified withour haveing to change the page itself.

  • Looping external swf which has no .fla

    Hi!
    What I have is a sliding menu with buttons - each button calls an external swf - which plays in an empty movie clip.
    Now, I want the current loaded swf to loop till the time the user clicks on another button. The problem is, I do not have the fla files for any of the external swfs (these are screencam recordings using a software that does not publish .fla) - so I can't put a code at the end of each external swf asking it to not stop.
    Any suggestions on how I might be able to have the external swf loop?
    Thanks & Regards,
    ~ Raven

    Thanks for your help Ned. Actually, I did manage to decompile the swf (using a 3rd party software) - yes, it is a movieclip on frame 1. I could even go inside it and place the loop code. But decompiling meant loss of the control bar that the screen capture software put in it and I can't compromise on that. I guess the screen capture guys should've chosen another softwares that publishes the .fla.
    Thanks again and regards,
    ~ Raven

  • External Hard Drive won't cooperate

    I used CCC to back up my system drive to and external. When I try to start up from the external it ask me to log in, but it has a different password (one that I can't remember.) How can I reset this pass word on my external?

  • POST fails when VGA is connected to GTX680

    Hi all,
    I have an issue with my new MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC:
    I've got the main screen (a TV) connected via an A/V receiver using HDMI.
    My HTPC casing (a Thermaltake DH 202 Touch) has a small 7", built-in, LCD panel (1024x768) with a VGA connector.
    When I plug in the LCD panel's VGA connector (using the supplied VGA-DVI converter), the PC fails to POST.
    As soon as I unplug the VGA-DVI converter and reset the machine, it POSTs and boots fine.
    If I then hot-plug the LCD panel, the LCD panel works fine as well. It just won't POST with the VGA cable connected.  :(
    When the PC hangs during post, the main board (an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe) shows "B2" on the Q-Code readout for a long time. Every 26 seconds or so, the PC speaker beeps once. After about 5 or 6 beeps or so, the Q-Code indicator changes state a couple of times and finally shows "A0", which it normally does when the PC boots normally. But in this case there is still no image on either screen and the PC does not seem to boot up.
    According to the manual, "B2" stands for "Legacy Option ROM Initialization" and "A0" stands for "IDE initialization is started".
    Note:
    This exact same setup used to work fine with my old graphics card, an EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SC, before I changed it for this new one. All other components are still the same.
    I have updated my main board's BIOS and I've looked for a firmware update for the graphics card, but was unable to find one.
    I have tried connecting a normal LCD monitor (1280x1024) to the DVI-I port, using a VGA cable and the supplied VGA-DVI converter, which worked perfectly.
    One thing I did notice was that the DVI-I port is the primary port during POST (why?  ). I therefore tried to find out if the primary port can be changed, but I could not find any information on how to do this.
    Does anyone have any ideas how to get this setup working normally? Could the maximum (native) resolution of the built-in LCD panel be the problem?
    Thanks in advance for your insight,
    Erik.

    You can't make it fool proof because fools are so genious

  • Hard time for selecting Startup Disk (partition) in Mac Classic II.

    Dear coleagues, I'd like your help to understand and solve a tricky trouble. I'm sorry for the long text, but the issue is probably living in a small detail.
    The issue regards a Mac Classic II with internal and external HDDs. Internal HDD has two partitions, a smaller with System 7.1 (first) and a larger with System 7.5.3 (second). This one is installed there since 5 years ago, working fine.
    The (just installed) external HDD has 6 partitions (because of its size 9 Gb). It has been formated runing VCP in this Classic II itself and all partitions are initialized with HFS. It is intended to be a backup for my Classic II as well as my Mac Plus. I've started Installing System 7.5.3 in its third partition. Other partitions remain still empty.
    Using only internal HDD I can already perceive that "Startup Disk" control panel is unable to change the boot partition attribute between partitions in the same drive. When I open "Startup Disk" it usualy both partitions of internal HDD are highlighted. I can select a Zip Drive, for instance, and it will boot from Zip. But, when I switch it back to HDD, doesn't bother wich partition I select, it will always boot with the same partition (usually 7.5.3). Then, If i open Startup Disk CP again, both partitions are again highlighted.
    To switch between partitions in the same drive, I use Lido 7.5.6 PMount and there I select the boot partition. Then every time I select my HDD, that'll be the default boot partition.
    My conclusion is that in Mac Classic II the Startup Disk CP is unable to set a partition within a drive, it selects the drive only. The boot will obey the drive's partition table flag. That's why I can do it whith Lido, writing directly at HDD's flags.
    Now, attaching the external HDD, I can see all its partitions in Startup Disk CP and then I select one of them (the 3rd, with 7.5.3). Before rebooting, I close and open again the Startup Disk CP, then I can see all its 6 partitions highlighted. Just like I've been doing with the internal HDD, probably the solution to set a specific boot partition would be through Lido 7.5.6 PMount again. But Lido is unable to handle this drive. It appears gray in the drives list.
    What does it sound to you? What would you recommend to test? Is there an alternative for Startup Disk CP?
    Thank you.
    Regards, Ciro (Brazil)

    Dear Jan, good Evening.
    Thank you for your time.
    In fact I can select a specific partition, but by closing and reopenning Startup Disk CP I realize that the selection has been attributed to the physical drive (all partitions highlighted).
    I have tried Startup Disk CP in both System 7.1 and System 7.5.3. They do the same way.
    Internal HDD has been formated, partitioned and initialized with Apple HD CS Setup.
    This external HDD in a different way. Apple HD SC Setup hasn't been able to "see" it, probably because of its prior format system. Lido neither. That's why I went to VCP. Moreover, as it is too big for 68030, I had to format it attached to a Performa 6360. After formating, I've let VCP make set the partitions in HFS mode (partitions with 512, 1024 and 2032 Mb).
    I've mounted VCP in Mini VMac to get some screenshots for you:
    Bringing it back to Mac Classic II, it could be mounted with Lido, but System 7 has asked to initialize all partitions again. I've accepted, installed system 7 on it, and it didn't boot. Then I've repeated the partitioning and initializing procedures using Apple HD SC Setup (since now there's a Mac HDD with "small" logical drives). Nothing changed.
    I'm following your tip about System Picker. I've downloaded the sit file and read about it. It seems to be able to overlay the problem. I'm gonna try it and report back here.
    But I feel still uncomfortable not to be able to do things the regular way. As far as I know, the boot partition is an attribute of a drive partition in partition map, just like the "Active Partition" found in FAT systems. I should be able to write there as I can do with Lido in internal HDD.
    Thank you, Jan.
    Best regards,
    Ciro Bruno.

  • Pre-Loading Configuration File

    Hi Guys,
    I've went thru the thread and noticed some had already asked
    the following question, yet I didn't see any satisfying answer.
    I'm using mxml components. Some use an external configuration
    when being initialize (it's external so I can change parameters and
    not recompile every time).
    Hence - that xml file must be loaded prior to any component.
    Is there a proper way in flex which i can determine the
    order? Or is there a way in which I can specify to the application
    to load a configuration file prior to any other action?
    Solutions I've seen here:
    * write it all from scratch using AS3 - sorry, thanks... Not
    an option :)
    * put your application under another component (like canvas)
    and load the config file in the main app and only then the canvas:
    Guys - could you find uglier solution? :)
    * use the initialize event : not working.. Since it's
    threaded - by the time the config file loads... All of the
    components have been loaded too.
    So, I'd be so happy if someone here would start his answer
    with: "So easy man... So simple... just do this... and that... :)".
    Crossing fingures :)
    my Email

    In addition to the initialize event, there is a preinitialize
    event. Because server
    calls are asyncronous you will need a custom preloader so you
    have control as to when you let the app continue. Check out the
    following article (from cflex.net)
    on using a custom preloader.
    http://br.sys-con.com/read/255823.htm
    We use this method so we can load a catalog of labels and
    messages before the main application components are
    displayed.

    This is a very critical issue, because we are unable to provide our
    business with any production reports and also stock reports.
    Please some one help us to resolve the issue.
    Please help as early as possible

    Hi,
    I have a suggestion, you can try..
    as you said that the, your delta init has failed from 15th aug..but later your init was
    successful ended at today's date..right..
    so, if your init and delta activation is successful, then system would have started
    captureing the data through one of its update mode set by you..
    therefore, first goto RSA7 and check whether you have any delta records there..?
    if you found NO..
    then...go to T-code - LBWQ - and check the entries against 'MCEX03' you should be able to see the no. of records..
    step2 : go there double click on that record and check the value in the status field
    and if it is other than 'Ready', then change the status to 'Ready'...
    and revert back to me...for further steps..

  • Beige G3 drives making me nuts

    This is absolutely infuriating. I have a bunch of Beiges that I've been imaging. I have a number of 6GB and 8GB drives. I built a drive image with 9.2.2 and 10.3.9 with XPostFacto onboard. I've imaged several Beiges with it using NetRestore and a firewire enclosure. I found that I have to format the drive on the Beige, then image it in a Firewire enclosure (trying to format it in the enclosure makes it unreadable in OS 9, even with the box checked in Disk Utility), and then drop it back in the Beige, boot from an OS 9 CD, set the 9.2.2 system folder to start, then reboot, run XPostFacto, and the thing works just fine in OS X. No problems. Until now.
    Now, I have an issue that is ticking me off because there is no friggin' reason for it. Nothing has changed. All these Beiges are 266mhz Rev A. No difference. However, all of a sudden, images have stopped working. First thing was that my OS 9.2.1 boot disk stopped recognizing them and asked to initialize at startup...even though they'd been formatted on that very startup CD and had not been reformatted. When I pulled the CD out and left the hard drive, it would try to spin up, click, then spin down ad infinitum. I booted from an 8.1 CD, and it recognized the drive just fine, but setting it to boot produced the same clicking. I figured it was due to 8.1 not being able to set the right system folder.
    Okay, so I spent more time than I should have getting a 9.1 CD. I boot up, it recognizes the drive (dunno what the heck was wrong with that 9.2.1 CD) and sees both system folders as bootable. So I set the 9.2.2 system folder to boot as usual...and get the same **** clicking and spindown at startup. It's done this with several working drives. I reformatted it and installed 9.1. The drive booted with no trouble. I reformatted, imaged (no reformat in the image) and put it back...same clicking issue. Several Beiges have been doing this for no reason, and I cannot fathom why. I also don't see why that 9.2.1 CD stopped reading the drives. It's really, really ******* me off. I've tried PRAM resets, NVRAM resets, battery pulls...nothing. The hard drive is on the separate channel as master, no slave drives. The configuration between the already imaged Beiges and the ones with clicking drives are friggin' identical. No difference.
    I also noticed that sometimes the Beige takes a little longer to output video. When it does this, the drive spins up and stays up until the system scans it for a boot folder. THEN it clicks and spins down again. When I boot from a CD, I get the click and spindown, but it spins up and mounts when it gets to the desktop. I know these drives are fine, and 9.1 booted off of it...so why in the heck wont they boot from a working image?? I'm seriously at a loss here.

    I have seen similar problems in working with a number of beige G3's. I have almost always been working with XPostFacto and 10.3, so I can't really tell whether the problem is an XPostFacto problem or a Mac OS X problem. I found 10.2 Jaguar without XPostFacto much harder to get installed than 10.3 Panther with XpostFacto.
    Let me make some broad statements and see whether others can corroborate, or have have different views of the situation:
    This does not seem to be a Hardware problem.
    OS X, especially before 10.3, had a strong tendency to mangle Mac OS 9 boot data, especially when both 9 and X were on the same partition. It is much less frequent in 10.3, and much less frequent if 9 and X are on separate partitions. I decided to keep separate partitions, one for X and one for Mac OS 9/Classic, and have had much less trouble since.
    XPostFacto [or is it Mac OS X?] seems to [ ? accidentally? ] do something to the boot information such that if it can't boot X, it can't boot at all, and gets stuck in a loop like the one you described -- light up the screen, maybe the smiling Mac, then reset and do it again ad infinitum. Other times the screen lights up, then screen goes dark, and rather than coming up in 6 seconds with the grey apple, just stays dark and never comes back.
    One working solution is to use XPostFacto (which runs in X and 9) to change to 9 and back, or boot from a 9 CD and run XPostFacto to get its house in order and set XPostFacto to re-enable booting from the drive you really want. Sometimes a de-install and re-install of extensions etc. inside XPostFacto sets it right.
    Sometimes you have to reset the PRAM to get a 9 CD to boot.

  • How do I limit typing in a ComboBox Dropdown list

    I’ve created a form and added a ComboBox which generated the code:
    this->DateList = (gcnew System::Windows::Forms::ComboBox());
    this->SuspendLayout();
    // DateList
    this->DateList->Font = (gcnew System::Drawing::Font(L"Microsoft Sans Serif", 12,
    System::Drawing::FontStyle::Bold, System::Drawing::GraphicsUnit::Point,
    static_cast<System::Byte>(0)));
    this->DateList->FormattingEnabled = true;
    this->DateList->Location = System::Drawing::Point(91, 7);
    this->DateList->Name = L"DateList";
    this->DateList->Size = System::Drawing::Size(121, 28);
    this->DateList->TabIndex = 0;
    this->DateList->SelectedIndexChanged += gcnew System::EventHandler(this,&Form1::DateList_SelectedIndexChanged);
    And then I added some custom code to add the items to the DateList
    for ( int x = numSnapShots - 1 ; x >= 0 ; x-- )
      String ^ item = gcnew String ( SnapShots[x]->dateStr );
        this->DateList->Items->Add(item);
    this->DateList->SelectedIndex = 0;
    All is working fine, I can select any Snapshot date I want from the list.
    The problem is that I can also type anything I want in the ComboBox.
    The dropdown of 12/31/2014 is in the list, but I can also type “Last Year” and of course the code doesn’t know how to handle that.
    What item in the combobox do I have the change to what to disable the user’s ability to type in the combobox?

    David,
    Maybe I didn’t look hard enough, but I could not find a way to create a C# WinForms project and include my existing C++ code as is and then interface the form front end to the existing C++ logic.
    I did find relatively easy ways for a C++ CLI Windows Forms Application to communicate with standard C++.
    I had to limit the data types that I passed pack and forth, but the link up was relatively easy.
    I have externals in Form1.h which can then simply call the primary C++ interface:
    extern std::string str;
    extern std::string strPage;
    extern std::string strDate;
    extern
    void Initialize();
    extern
    int RebuildPage(int);
    Initialize() is called right after Initialize Component() to load all the data into memory and build the first HTML page.
    if (RebuildPage(7))
    RefreshThePage();
    Exists for most of the button clicks and dropdown selections.
    The number tells the C++ code what form control was clicked and a nonzero return tells the form to refresh the page.
    Refresh the page is a simple Form1.h method that does just that, changes the labels on the form header and refreshes the HTML string to the new HTML data created by the C++ logic.
    void RefreshThePage(void)
    this->webBrowser1->DocumentText =
    gcnew String( str.c_str() );
    this->ViewLabel->Text =
    gcnew String( strPage.c_str() );
    this->DateLabel->Text =
    gcnew String( strDate.c_str() );
    This allowed me to perform all of the complex operation in the existing code with minimal changes, like changing the fprintf’s that created the original HTML files into str.append logic to pass the pages directly to the form.
    It’s true that all of my other code was batch style console applications, but the form front end was not totally difficult to learn and the simple fixes like David Lowndes just suggested makes the coding even easier.
    Thanks again Dave.
    I created a very complex program to make visualizing mutual fund trends very simple.
    The problem with the batch console application was that if I wanted to stop highlighting symbol ABC and wanted to start highlighting XYZ, I had to modify a data file by hand and then rerun the batch process to recreate the entire website on my local
    drive so I could not instantly see the change.  Using a form front end and building and displaying the pages interactively make that process instant.
